On this day in black history, Officer Juggs and Officer Melons went undercover & made the largest drug bust in history. At a press conference, the chief of police stated, "We tried for nearly a decade with no luck. But these brave officers gathered enough evidence to end their operations in one night! Amazing! We have no idea how it was so easy for them. It's like they practically sucked the information right out of them!"

It always baffles me when people are so mad about how ao3 operates as an archive and not, like, as an algorithmically driven recommendation machine or as a moral measure of appropriate writing or as a social media site or as anything else people want it to be... It's an archive. It hosts text. That's the sole summary of its job. If you don't like it, you don't...have to use it?
If you want a stricter hosting site for fanfic, ffn exists. If you want something that has an algorithm, pick any social media site nowadays...even tumblr recommends stuff to you now. Ao3 is not going to be your arbiter of fandom discourse nor will it enforce your personal opinion on certain topics because that's a really weird thing to ask of an archive and its staff, and that's straight up not what the site is for. That's like walking into a library and asking snidely why the librarians aren't stopping you from reading the books there. If it makes you mad, there are other fanfic hosting sites that aren't archival-model-based.

"Why are we automating art when we could be automating these MENIAL and DEMEANING jobs instead?"
1) How enjoyable a task is to THE AVERAGE PERSON has zero correlation to how easy it is to automate; we don't HAVE the technology to automate sewer maintenance without flooding the streets with shit
2) There is no work that's inherently menial and demeaning and unenjoyable, nor any such thing as unskilled labor, and in fact if you realized this as much as you say you do when it's not about your fear of art getting cheapened by being available to your ~lessers~ you'd be aware that the skills to work in sanitation in particular - dealing with biohazards - are complicated and hard to learn and deserve respect; safety rules are written in blood (or sometimes in shit)
3) Sure, PARTIAL automation could work wonders for improving safety in some dangerous jobs once ROBOTICS - not just software - advances further, but you do realize that um. The people doing those jobs you're so gung-ho to automate out of existence. Um. Also...need to get paid? To like. Eat? You realize this right? Right???

The fact that AI imagery hasn't already been banned before it got to this point is horrifying and infuriating. It's going to destroy the world as we know it. From pornography easily being generated of women and children, to destroying millions of jobs, to stealing intellectual property, to massive amounts of misinformation being spread because of no longer being able to trust your own eyes. People are already fooled by the current imagery that has obvious tells of it being AI. As the technology improves, it's going to be impossible for *anyone* to tell the difference. And that time is coming soon, possibly before the end of the year. It's progressing unbelievably fast. I don't know if it's able to be stopped at this point.

Without strenuous ethical oversight, AI used by law enforcement could very easily lead us into a world not unlike that of Minority Report.

I don’t know if the Usagi Yojimbo comic book franchise is resuming under Dark Horse publishing or not. All I know is that the characters who raised me from the 2003 Mirage owned TMNT cartoon series are changing and expanding their TurtleVerse. And it’s catching up with the same, overwhelming vastness of DC & Marvel.
