Ok, I'm here today to tell you about George Kellgren, the guy most famous for the Tec-9 and Keltec's various screw happy guns (as in like screws you use to assemble things, the guns don't fuck each other).
Tumblr media
Here he is, with a SU-16.
Now, we all know how weird Keltec is with gun design. Dual tube bullpup shotguns, 30 round 22 magnum handguns, folding 9mm carbines, 5.7 guns that you load by slapping a mag onto it and then slapping a cover over, ect.
But here's the thing, in-between the years of him helping to design the TEC-9 and him using packages of CIA cocaine found in the Florida swamps to help him design guns at Keltec, he had another company, Grendel (no relation to the cartridge). Now, during this time, his third, fourth, and fifth guns he designed are familiar to anyone who likes the CMR-30 and PMR-30, the Grendel P-30 and P-31, which came as a pistol and a carbine.
Tumblr media
30 rounds of 22 Magnum, yeah, sure, whatever. Here's the thing though, his first gun, hurts my brain.
Tumblr media
Normal subcompact pistol right? Well, this lil .380 ACP pistol is DAO, which is odd. However, it doesn't take detachable box magazines, it has a fixed 10 round one. You can either single load it, or...
Tumblr media
USE AR-15 STRIPPER CLIPS AND A GUIDE TO FEED ROUNDS INTO IT LIKE AN EARLY AUTO LOADING PISTOL! WHAT?! WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS?! HOW WOULD THIS BE PRACTICAL FOR A DEFENSIVE PISTOL?! WHO DOES SHIT LIKE THIS?! He later made a version that took magazines, but what the hell, this is one hell of a first pistol for a company.

I cut my skin to liberate the splinter: Act 1
This is one element of a large-scale multi-part work that comprises six sculptural installations – I cut my skin to liberate the splinter Act 1–5 and I cut my skin to liberate the splinter: Please remember on my behalf, all2017 (Tate T15274–T15279). They can be shown individually or together as a single work, as they were on their initial presentation during Performa 17 Biennial in New York in November 2017, which earned the artist the fourth Malcolm McLaren Award.
Medium: Reconfigured wooden school desks, 96 glass bottles with cork tops, steel bath, acrylic tank, acrylic pipe, water, moulded plastic valves, metal flutes, sand, paper and ribbon
[Source ‘I cut my skin to liberate the splinter: Act 1‘, Kemang Wa Lehulere, 2017 | Tate]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cut my skin to liberate the splinter: Act 1 2017 comprises a right-angled triangular form, over three metres high, constructed out of salvaged school desks. Wa Lehulere frequently utilises school furniture in his work to address questions around how knowledge is imparted, and to refer to student activism during apartheid and contemporary struggles for access to, and transformation in, education. Wa Lehulere has said: ‘I believe the education system is the most important aspect to begin with because it is where people are shaped. At the moment and for a long time the education system [in South Africa] has not produced people that think critically, but rather people who fit in the system.’ (Quoted in Aïcha Diallo, ‘The Desire to no Longer Be Silent’, Contemporary And, 31 March 2017, https://www.contemporaryand.com/magazines/the-desire-to-no-longer-be-silent/, accessed 9 May 2018).
Completing this sculpture is a clear acrylic tube fixed to the diagonal side of the triangle, connecting a transparent rectangular tank at the apex with a round steel bath filled with water at the base. Ninety-six glass bottles sealed with cork stoppers and containing sand and blue paper scrolls tied with ribbon are arranged in a grid in front of the bath. When activated during a performance, the bottles are slowly fed into the acrylic pipe and – by way of pressure controlled by three gates – travel up the pipe to the tank where they are fished out of the water by a performer atop the structure who reads out the messages in the bottles. At other moments bubbles are blown into the water pail with one of five metal ‘flutes’. The flotation and chamber system Wa Lehulere has created in this work is based on the water shaft theory, which postulates that the Ancient Egyptians used pressurised water to move the massive limestone blocks used in constructing the Giza Pyramids.

I once(several times) sent this image to ian mccollum of forgotten weapons dot com(to no avail he never responded) because it's chock full of jank that he doesn't have videos on
from top to bottom:
Claridge Hi-Tec(I covered this)
MPA MPAR556, a blatant ripoff/modernization of a weird aussie gun called the leader T2, came onto the market for like 5 years and disappeared completely
Valtro PM-5, an italian riot shotgun that takes detachable 7-round magazines that rock in like an AK magazine
Tristar Tec-12, a gun that's actually really not that special other than, at the time, it was pretty much the only Benelli M3 clone out there
get ready for this one, the Bergslagsbössan Filipstad, a Swedish 2-round pump-action shotgun that both loads and ejects from the top, it's an absurd creature and I'm pretty sure there's only like 12 of these in the US and I happen to know the owners of 2 of them(who also know another owner)
Marlin Model 50, Marlin's first foray into .22lr semi-auto rifles immediately cut short because it utilizes an open bolt design and was produced in 1934, the same year the 1934 National Firearms Act was signed into place which effectively banned civilian ownership of open bolt rifles without a tax stamp.
Atis PM-2, it's the Valtro PM-5 but slightly different.
J&R Engineering M68, a horribly bulky square tube of a pistol like seriously it's just a fucking square tube look here's what it looks like disassembled
Tumblr media
look at it the bolt is a massive chunk of tube and the receiver is just a brick
Feather AT-9, it's just a goofy little takedown tube in 9mm

Describe your most recent purchase: Ear cleaner and antibiotics for Simba who has a minor ear infection.
Did you enjoy the last movie you watched in theaters? I haven't been to the cinema in almost four years lol. The last thing I saw was Cats which was appallingly cringy.
If you make surveys, where’s the last place you saw a survey made by you on another person’s site? I see them on here fairly regularly, they seem to do the rounds every six months or so.
Do you take the subway train often (if your city has one)? We don't have one here - the nearest is Glasgow I think but I haven't been on it. I use the Tube whenever I'm in London though.
What shoes did you wear today? I haven’t worn any yet and I have no plans to wear any either.
Does your sibling have a significant other? I don't have any siblings.
Have you ever cried at a real wedding? No. I've only ever attended my own wedding and never cried.
How would you feel if a girl asked your boyfriend out for a drink? I mean, that's just completely not his thing at all so I'd find it very unusual if he said yes.
Do you live in an apartment or a house? A house.
Do you use Skype? No. Does Skype even exist anymore? lol.
What do your flip flops look like? I don't have any - Archie destroyed my only pair and I never got round to replacing them. They were SO comfy though.
Any idea what you want for your next birthday? We'll probably have a meal out somewhere and then I normally get £50 worth of vouchers for one of my favourite stores.
Are there any gadgets of yours that need charging right now? Nope.
What’s the name of your nearest grocery store? Spar, but it's just a small one attached to the petrol station.
What do you use to remove makeup? Simple facial wash/scrub depending on the day. I use both.
Which awards show would you wanna go to the most (e.g Oscars, Grammys etc.)? None of them interest me at all, honestly.
Any idea what time you’ll be going to bed tonight? I normally go to bed around 9-10pm and sleep around midnight-ish.
Do you think George Clooney is hot? He's not unattractive but he's not my type either.
Have you ever participated in local magazine cover girl searches? I don't think we have that here.
What colour is your keyboard? Silver with black keys and white writing.
Do you keep the plastic/paper/whatever bags after you buy stuff? The paper ones go in the recycling but we keep plastic bags and re-use them at home all the time. They're useful for cat litter or when we're having a clear out.
Do you own any high waisted pants? Just leggings.
Do you know anyone who has two different coloured eyes? I know a dog who has that, lol.
Do you wanna be a pirate or an elf? Hmm, if I had to pick, then probably an elf.
Have you ever purchased anything online? Sure, loads of things. I buy stuff online at least 2-3 times a week as we live in the middle of nowhere and don't have many shops here.
Gold or silver accessories? Silver or white gold.
Have you ever been called a skank/slut because of the way you dress? Yeah, as a teenager.
Have you ever ridden an elephant? No. I've fed elephants and stuff before though.
Are you a fan of acrylic nails? If they're tasteful then sure, but I don't like those really long ones or the pointy ones. They just look freaky to me.

I went to school before the advent of makeup youtube, so here is a short list of products I used while growing up:
1. Covergirl Clean Foundation. Specifically the one with the blue cap, I think it was for oil control. I was suffering from pretty serious acne most of the time, and I was sure the “clean” foundation was the best I could do in that department - I also saw Taylor Swift advertising the product on the back of a Cosmopolitan magazine.
2. Covergirl Clean Pressed Powder. Also the blue one - they matched, so I assumed they would work best together. I remember loving the look of the thing, loving the sharp edges of the compact. I thought it was so much sleeker than the round-edged compacts I grew up watching my mom use.
3. Maybelline Dream BB Fresh. When I wasn’t wearing the Covergirl Clean foundation, I was wearing this. My best friend Rachel used it at the time, so of course I did too.
4. Maybelline Coverstick in Ivory or Green. Liquid concealers did not exist to me and my friends at the time. It wasn’t a concealer unless it came in a lipstick container and applied in a thick streak. I remember making out with my boyfriend the day before a family trip to Ohio and frantically applying the stuff in a gas-station bathroom to the necklace of hickeys I had gotten.
5. Almay Intense i-Color Eyeshadow Trio for Brown Eyes. I remember receiving a lot of compliments on my eyeshadow whenever I wore this. I had read in a Seventeen that purple eyeshadow looks best on brown eyes, and I treated it like a religion. This pallette had a brown shimmer at the base, a lavender shimmer in the center, and a matte highlight shade on top. I repurchased it at least four times.
6. Almay Liquid Liner in Black. This eyeliner was the most unique I could find. I hated the brush-tip liners, they always got all over the place when I tried to line my eyes. I hated a crayon after my bout of raccoon eyes in middle and early high school (we will get to that product). So this sponge-tip applicator was the solution to every problem.
7. Maybelline Modern Metallics Eyeshadow in Golden Halo. I had also read that gold eyeshadow looks best on brown eyes, so of course the very next day I went to the Rite Aid by my house and picked up a single eyeshadow to rub on my eyes with a sponge tip applicator.
8. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Bronzer. Again with the products promising “healthy skin” - I was desperate. At the time blush was not too popular - instead we got our glows from tanning beds and THIS bronzer. I applied it just like I would a blush: right over the cheekbones.
9. Covergirl Outlast Lipstain. Now, I can’t remember the exact shade of this lip stain, but I do remember the day I got it. My best friend was buying makeup with her mom at Target and I had tagged along, and her mom let me pick out something fun. I applied this constantly. It was a little marker with a felt tip, and I miss it everyday. I can still taste the stuff.
10. Covergirl Lashblast. THIS mascara - this little orange tube. It is so iconic, so reminiscent of its time. And I think it’s still available. The little hard plastic bristles were unforgiving when I would bash them into my eyeball while trying to apply mascara in the passenger seat of my dad’s car on the way to school.
I’m not sure if that’s everything - but if it isn’t, I’ll just add to the list in an edit.

Yankee hill quad rail handguard slr

The ASA 7.5 Side Charging Pistol is based on a standard AR design but has no stock, just a foam-sleeve-covered buffer tube that can be used as a check rest, and a short 7.5-inch barrel with a 1-in-14-inch twist rate. ( 60)Īmerican Spirit Arms (ASA), based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, is best known for its non-reciprocating, side-charging designs. It accepts Magpul PMAGs and comes with flip-up sights as well as an SB-15 stabilizing brace. It features a 12.5-inch, free-floating barrel, an adjustable gas piston system and AR controls. The P716 is a true big-bore megapistol chambered in 7.62 mm NATO. Sig’s pistols are a favorite among law enforcement, and in recent years the company has offered a complete line of megapistols as well. Sig Sauer has been in the firearms business for over 150 years, with most of that time focused on producing military arms. The threaded barrel is also suppressor ready.
#Yankee hill quad rail handguard slr full
With the 8-inch barrel and standard handguard, only the flash suppressor is exposed, and there is a full 14 inches of uninterrupted Picatinny rail space on top for optics. A Torx wrench can also be used to quickly remove the MPX’s barrel/gas piston assembly, giving the user a choice of installing 4.5-, 6.5- or 8-inch barrels. The handguard can be removed without any tools and easily replaced. The upper and lower receivers are both made from aluminum so that it is surprisingly lightweight. This fully ambidextrous, semi-automatic, piston-operated megapist ol is designed to mimic an AR in its controls and operation. The Scorpion ships with two translucent, 20-round magazines, but 30-round magazines are also available from CZ-USA. The pistol features an ambidextrous magazine release and safety as well as a reversible changing handle. Fully adjustable low-profile diopter sights are included and can be easily removed. Along the top of the receiver is an 11-inch Picatinny rail for installing optics and sights.
#Yankee hill quad rail handguard slr plus
Based on a venerable submachine gun, this is one megapistol that keeps things simple by allowing you to use the same ammunition as your normal carry gun, plus the longer 7.72-inch barrel adds extra velocity to the standard 9mm ammunition. The CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Pistol is a semi-auto powerhouse chambered in 9mm. For those looking for a powerful megapistol that can be customized to their exact requirement, DoubleStar definitely deserves a very close look. These include flattop upper receivers, chrome-lined barrels, low-profile gas blocks, quad-rail handguards and enhanced flash suppressors, to name just a few. Featuring direct gas impingement systems for reliable operation, the powerful AR-platform pistols are available with a variety of options in each barrel length. Whether it is for home or travel, a megapistol may fill a necessary, life-saving niche in your self-defense arsenal.ĭoubleStar produces AR pistols in 300 Blackout (and 5.56mm NATO) in two different barrel lengths: 7.5 and 9 inches. And, by selecting powerful chamberings with larger-diameter projectiles than the commonly found 5.56mm NATO round, you can have an intriguing option for a defensive gun. Call it what you will, but these semi-automatic pistols deliver higher-powered ammunition, greater velocity, larger magazine capacities, improved accuracy, longer-range effectiveness and easy accessorizing, and sometimes all of the above. Enter the megapistol, the trunk gun, the briefcase commando. There is, however, no reason we can’t up the ante and turn even “standard” handguns into much more effective defensive weapons. While extremely compact handguns have always had a niche, it was full-sized and large handguns that were relied on first and foremost throughout history. In a world where micro-compact pocket pistols seem to rule, it is easy to forget that size does matter.

To maintain its low cost, Mossberg continued to produce the M500 for civilian and police markets, and in 1987, designed the M590 specifically for military use. M500s began to be purchased by the US military in limited numbers, with the first order consisting of approximately 5,900 shotguns for the Navy and Coast Guard. During the testing, some M500s were created to better match the MIL-SPEC, which came at an increase in cost. In the 1970s, the M500 was submitted for military use, but failed to meet the MIL-SPEC 3443E protocol, which involves firing 3,000 rounds of 23-gauge shells with no more than two malfunctions. Model 590A1ĭesigned in 1961 by Carl Benson, the Mossberg 500 was created mainly for use by hunters, but quickly found itself in use by law enforcement because of its reliability and low cost. By 2021, 11,000,000 M500s had been produced, making it the most-produced shotgun of all time.

The Revelation 310 and the New Haven 600 were also variations of the 500 series produced by Mossberg under different names. Model numbers included in the 500 series are the 500, 505, 510, 535, and 590. The 500 series comprises widely varying models of hammerless repeaters, all of which share the same basic receiver and action, but differ in bore size, barrel length, choke options, magazine capacity, stock and forearm materials. How To Buy A Gun On The Internet
In the maximum primary experience, guns work like this: a bullet is loaded into the rear of the barrel, that's a tube linked to the firing pin. Mechanically speaking, the trigger is the catalyst that sets off a series of occasions, starting with the discharge of the firing pin, which flies forward, striking a tiny explosive price positioned in the base of the bullet. That explosion ignites the gunpowder, that's tucked within the shell casing surrounding the bullet. The strain trade forces the bullet out of the casing and down the barrel toward the goal.
Admittedly, the speedy evolution of guns makes it hard to take a look at them and spot their basic components—a trigger, firing pin, and tubes. Today’s firearms have magazines able to retaining as much as 30 or extra bullets, or more than one barrel, or can hearth more than one bullet according to pull of the trigger. Some weapons have lighting fixtures, lasers, rifle scopes, bipods, and other add-ons to become aware of a target or aid in marksmanship. It’s proper that many guns operate quite simply, however as generation progresses, newer fashions are continually turning into greater sophisticated.
Tumblr media
Calibers and Bullet Types
You’ll listen “quality” tossed round in any discussion of guns. This term is simply a way to identify the form of cartridge that the weapons fires.
Bullet calibers are diagnosed  methods: by way of fractions of an inch, or in millimeters. The .45 ACP round used in lots of handguns is zero.Forty five inches in diameter—simply below half-an-inch wide. The .22 round, .38 Special, and .500 Action Express rounds are all named for his or her sizes as a fraction of an inch. The five.Fifty six-millimeter spherical used in an AR-15 (additionally expressed, in inches, as .223) is five.Fifty six millimeters in diameter. The nine-millimeter spherical is 9 millimeters in diameter. And so on.
That said, a bullet’s diameter does no longer imply it'll suit in every gun of that length, and there are many sub-sorts of ammunition. A .357 Magnum revolver bullet will not in shape in a Glock pistol chambered in .357 SIG. The .22 Short spherical is primarily intended for pistols, even as the .22 Long round is meant for rifles. This is starting to sound complicated, however what you actually need to understand is that, usually, a unmarried gun can handiest shoot a single form of bullet.
Different styles of bullet calibers are supposed to accomplish different duties, and there are actually hundreds of bullet calibers. Some are for smaller shooters greater touchy to flinch, others are for lengthy-variety capturing, at the same time as nonetheless others are for near-variety self-defense. For instance, a .22 Long round is meant for small recreation searching and light target practice. A .223 round, only a tiny bit wider in diameter than .22 Long has an extended variety, travels at a better velocity, and is a good deal greater lethal due to the form of the bullet and using extra gunpowder.

USS Texas (BB-35): 14 inch guns
Tumblr media
Designed in 1910, the 14 inch/45 caliber guns on USS Texas (BB-35) were the largest guns installed on a commissioned battleship in the world in 1914.
The 14-inch gun is 52 feet 6 inches long, weighs 63.4 tons, and fires a shell weighing 1,400 pounds. The muzzle velocity is 2,600 feet per second (fps) (792 meters per second (mps)) for AP rounds and 2,700 fps (823 mps) for HC rounds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each gun consisted of several interlocking hoops and bands to give the barrel, its strength. The Mark 1 through X barrels consisted of a tube without liner, jacket, eight hoops and a screw box liner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It used a horizontal opening Welin breech block and used a Smith-Asbury mechanism.
Originally, these guns were the Mark I, Mod I and the first guns installed on March 5, 1913. The Mark 1 liner had a life of 150 firings.
Her guns were replaced 3 times during her career.
In January 1921, the original barrels were swapped for Mark I, Mod 7 in Bremerton Navy Yard. See my other post on the swap: link
In January 1937, the barrels were swapped for seven Mark VIII and two Mark X guns in the Bremerton Navy Yard(?). The Mark VIII and X had an increased barrel life of 175 - 200 firings.
In October 1944, Mark XII in New York Navy Yard. See my other post on the swap: link. Note: 9 of Mark XII were her original Mark 1 Mod 1 barrels that were relined and upgraded. The Mark XII had chromium plating to increase barrel life to 250 firings.
The Mark VIII, X and XII muzzle velocity was increased to 2,735 fps (834 mps) for HC rounds due to the enlarged chamber volume.
Note: Caliber is calculated by the diameter times the length.

Hello first off! I love your writing, and I've been on a sudden tf2 hyperfocus especially on Scout so your content? Golden. I usually am hesitant to ask for requests but, if you ever feel up to it, I would love to see your take on Dadgineer and Scout? Thank you so much and happy holidays!!
i would argue the engineer is in a perpetual state of dad but let’s just ramp it up from like a 6 to like an 8 or 9 how abt that
(no warnings)
-
The track of footprints he saw in his workshop first thing when he got out of his truck were a reminder, once again, that he really needed to remember to turn on the security system whenever he went into town.
“Yo, what’s up?” Scout greeted from his place kicked back way too far on one of the shop stools, grinning up from the magazine he was fairly sure he’d left nowhere near that side of the room.
A jab to one of the legs of the stool as he passed by got Scout to squawk and lean it back down to sit properly. He dropped his keys in the tray they belonged to and turned, leveling a stern look at the young man. “Hidy yourself,” he said, tone dry. “Care to tell me why you’re breakin’ into my workshop again, Scooter?”
“Hey, I didn’t break into nothin’, you left the back door unlocked,” Scout protested, tossing the magazine down.
“Well, if you’ve got the time to waste walkin’ all the way around the whole damn building to trespass, you’ve got time to help me unload the truck,” he said, and raised his voice to speak over the immediate groan from Scout. “With minimal backsass, thank you.”
Scout made a face to compensate, but stood up regardless. “No wonder you were gone all freakin’ day, you went all the way into town?” he asked, incredulous as he followed the Engineer out the garage door to the waiting truck. “What’d you head all the way out there for?”
“Xylene,” he shrugged, popping the tailgate down and hefting a canister, handing it off to Scout.
“Hey, good for you, man. Is she nice?” Scout asked as he took the canister with only a bit of a visible struggle lifting it, and it took the Engineer a good five seconds to figure out what the hell he was talking about.
“Xylene ain’t a—it’s not my—it’s paint stripper,” he stammered, flustered, putting down his own canisters to shut the tailgate.
“Look, it’s none of my business if she’s your girlfriend or what, man, let alone her day job,” Scout shrugged, turning to head back in.
“No, not—“ he started to stammer again, and then he caught the way Scout was snickering under his breath and just bapped him on the back of his head with his glove, picking up the other two canisters again and following after him. “Damn fool. Xylene’s just a type of solvent, or paint thinner.”
“So why do you need that?” Scout asked.
“Gonna use it as a cleaner, mostly, then for a bit of help with a few paint jobs I’ve got lined up,” he replied.
“Cool. Like, we talkin’ fences?”
“Nah, nothin’ like that,” the Engineer said, guiding him to set the canisters down to one side of the door.
“I don’t really know shit about paint, besides spray paint,” Scout said, setting the canister down and just barely missing landing it on his own foot, the Engineer flinching a bit at the sight. “Now that I know a thing or two about.”
“Well, you keep your spray paint away from my machines, y’hear? I don’t take kindly to vandalism,” he warned, moving to shut the garage door.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Scout waved off, tugging on his hat.
It was only when he’d finished dusting off his hands that he looked over and realized something. “...Scooter, any particular reason you were in here waiting?” he asked, frowning a bit.
“I mean, nah, not really,” Scout laughed, tugging on his hat a bit more, then finally pulling it off altogether to wring it between his hands, not entirely making eye contact. “Like, it’s not a big deal or nothin’. I just had kind of a weird question, is all. Like, if you’re busy, don’t even worry about it.”
He raised an eyebrow, leaning against one of the workbenches. “Not elbow-deep in anything at the moment,” he said, “I’m all ears.”
Scout nodded, fidgeted. “Uh, guess I was just wonderin’, if uh... so, do you gotta change the oil on a motorcycle?”
“Yup. Regularly,” he nodded.
“Oh. How, uh, how often? Like, how regularly?” he asked, looking a little nervous.
“Yearly, about,” he shrugged. “Every few thousand miles it gets driven. Little more often than the oil on a car.”
“Oh,” Scout said again, and the Engineer’s eyebrows drew together.
“Scooter, are you tellin’ me you’ve never changed the oil on your motorcycle?” he asked, deadpan.
“Uh. Well... yeah,” he admitted.
“How long have you had the thing?” he asked, incredulous.
“Uh. Couple years,” he admitted, more quietly, still not making eye contact.
“Scout,” he admonished, and Scout shrunk a little. “Ain’t you ever had a machine to take care of before? Have you never had a car?”
“I could walk wherever I needed to go in Boston!” he protested. “Or get a ride from a friend or somethin’.”
“So you never had anyone tell you how to change the oil on a car growin’ up?” he asked, outright incredulous.
“Ma doesn’t know shit about cars, you kiddin’? She barely knows how to work the record player and even then she’d call me into the room whenever she wanted to change out the disk,” Scout scoffed.
The Engineer went to ask another question, but managed to stop himself before he could get too far into the sentence ‘What about your dad?’
A beat of silence. “So, uh, yeah, I should probably take that in then, huh?” Scout asked awkwardly.
“Absolutely not,” the Engineer said firmly, and moved over to one of the larger shelves, starting to sift through the tubes and bottles and canisters there. “Your bike’s still parked out ‘round the side of the building by the bread truck, ain’t it?”
“Uh,” Scout said, “yeah, I think?”
“Hold these,” the Engineer said, handing Scout a set of wrenches and starting to load a carrier with bottles. “I’m takin’ you out to show you how to do it yourself, and all the other sorts of maintenance, besides.”
“Woah, hey, c’mon, can’t I just take it into one of those, uh, oil change places?” Scout asked, fumbling for a free hand as he was handed the carrier and a few more tools.
“And have ‘em tell you every third bolt is rusted and you need to replace both tires three times apiece and you gotta rebuild the whole damn thing and then charge you by the hour to do it, no, you’re gonna do it yourself and then you won’t get yourself swindled,” the Engineer said firmly, and gestured at Scout to follow him, taking a few things off his hands when it became clear he’d drop them within five steps. “C’mon, then, let’s go.”
“Uh, okay,” Scout stammered, fumbling further for a moment before hurrying to follow.
And he continued to fumble his way through the process, and through the Engineer’s questions, and on the way back to the workshop again, but nodded with no small amount of enthusiasm when the Engineer suggested he help him next year, too.

To understand the absurdity of laws against fully automatic weapons, one need only consider shotguns. A #4 buckshot shell contains 27 lead ball projectiles that are all .24 caliber, which is a larger caliber than projectiles fired by standard AR15 rifles (.223). So with one trigger pull, you can launch 27 projectiles with absolutely devastating ballistics. You can legally buy a semiautomatic shotgun with a 9 round tube magazine, or hell, even a detachable 20 round magazine. If you can pull the trigger 3 times per second, you can launch 540 absolutely deadly projectiles in a little under 7 seconds. Perfectly legal.
Now... standard AR magazines are usually 30 rounds. Some higher capacity magazines are 60, or 100 rounds. A fully automatic AR15 could fire the highest of these, 100 rounds, in approximately the same amount of time. Meanwhile, firing on fully automatic greatly reduces a shooter's ability to control the weapon and maintain effective accuracy. Now remember, the bullets fired by the AR15 are a smaller caliber than #4 buckshot.
So the thing that is perfectly legal is capable of firing approximately 5 times the number of (larger caliber) projectiles in the same amount of time. Meanwhile fully automatic weapons are banned because........ scary noises?
Does this mean shotguns should be illegal? FUCK NO. It means that fully automatic weapons should be 100% legal and their owners left alone. Don't even get me started on suppressors (falsely referred to as "silencers" when they don't "silence" shit).

I ran across this Savage Model 1911 rifle in .22 Short. At first I thought it was a Winchester 1903 single shot rifle but the bolt and cartridge lifter threw me off. How ever there is no mistaking that Savage Indian Warrior logo. These rifles where only produced for about a year form 1911 to 1912ish. It loads threw the butt of the rifle stock like a Spencer Carbine, which is what drew me to the little rifle.
My favorite part about the magazine tuble is that you load 9 rounds of .22 shorts, run it into the feed part of the magazine tube, and then load 9 more into the top part of the magazine tube. The top part of the magazine tube is more like a hopper holding the spare cartridges. After you have shot all your cartridges in the bottom half, you tip the rifle down, and the cartridges in the top hopper just drop into place ready to go.

Spring fic bouquet - time to vote!
Thank you to everyone who sent recommendations for this round of the Johnock Fic Club. Because of the sheer volume of recs, we had some tough decisions to make in order to narrow it down to 10 fics to be voted on by members.
Reminder: of the 10 fics below, we will be reading the four fics that receive the most votes. With that, your choices are....
Tumblr media
1. How To Give Your Boyfriend Who Doesn't Know He's Your Boyfriend the Best Valentine's Day Ever by @unicornpoe
Sherlock is pretty sure that John Watson is his boyfriend. He's also pretty sure that John doesn't know it. But with a little help from a magazine, some friends, three crepes, five dates, one awesome CD, and a stalker van, John is bound to realize just in time for Valentine's Day. (9.8k teen and up)
2. The Very Unlikely Existence of a Flightless Bird in a Tuxedo by @conversationswithjohnlock
The London Zoo is thirty-six acres of land nestled in the northeast corner of Regents Park. It is not far from Baker Street, not far at all, but John has never been there. He doubts that Sherlock has ever been there, either, but the keyed up detective has been working tirelessly on a case involving poems and bombs for the last two days, and it appears to be culminating at the zoo. Lestrade's last text said to meet him there in ten minutes, and now John is trying to get at least half a piece of toast into Sherlock before they head out into the day and its untold mysteries. (8.8k explicit)
3. Evening Ride by lapuslazuli
John has a series of unexpected meetings with a stranger on the Tube. (8.6k explicit)
4. Pygmalion by @ancientreader
The spell to turn a statue into an animate being has been illegal in the UK for a hundred and seventy years when the -- body? -- is found on Hampstead Heath. It changes everything. (9.1k teen and up)
5. Looking Down by @hpswl-cumbercookie
Sherlock's time away in Serbia has led to a rather severe manifestation of Acrophobia, which culminates in a severe panic attack and leads to some much needed confessions between our Baker Street Boys. (6.2k teen and up)
6. His Right Hand by redscudery
John Watson, Viscount Granthorpe, needs a private secretary. Mycroft Holmes, Baronet Clytheroe, has a troublesome younger brother who is entirely unsuited for the army or the clergy. Sherlock, under threat of being cut off from the family purse, accepts the position reluctantly, but he will discover that there are unexpected advantages to being under John Watson's protection. (7.2k explicit)
7. Sentiment to Paper by mistyzeo
No fewer than three times by the winter of 1883 had I heard Sherlock Holmes disparage the ways of lovers and their irrational tendencies toward writing letters. With this often and loudly-expressed opinion in mind, I was very surprised indeed to find a stack of unsent, unsealed letters in a drawer in his desk. (7.3k explicit)
8. Nothing So Sweet by @alexxphoenix42
In an alternate universe, Sherlock is busy keeping to himself, tending his bees, and selling lovely jars of honey when a soldier limps into his life quite unexpectedly. (5.2k explicit)
9. Just Like That by @sussexbound
“When did I get so old,” John whispers, because anything else seems too much.
“When I left you, I imagine.” Sherlock murmurs, presses John’s hand between his. “When I destroyed everything good in your life.”
John shakes his head, and lifts his other hand to press atop Sherlock’s. “You had your reasons. I was angry for a long time, but I’m not anymore—not about that. I’m angry at your brother more than you. And as for—the rest, you know I don’t blame you for that. It wasn’t your fault, Sherlock. It wasn’t your fault.”
“As your feeling old and useless isn’t yours.”
(8.4k explicit)
10. Distractions by allonsys_girl
Sherlock's on a stakeout and John's very pretty - distractions ensue (9.6k explicit)
VOTE HERE!
Voting closes Thursday, 28th March.
