“What the hell is that,” Kunikuzushi said blankly.
“It looks like you! Doesn’t it?”
The badtz-maru plush stared back at him, daring him to deny it. Kunikuzushi glared at it with contempt rolling off of him in actual visible waves. “No. No, it really doesn’t.”
You held the plushie by his face and compared the unhappy expressions. They looked terrifyingly similar. It was hilarious, and so you burst out laughing at Kunikuzushi’s face.
Bullied, Kunikuzushi snatched the plushie off your grip and reared it far from your reach. “Why do you even have this?”
Kunikuzushi was scowling and trying his best to come off as intimidating, but with the badtz-maru plush in his grip, it was excruciatingly difficult to take him seriously. Or maybe it was because you’d gotten too used to him that it didn’t affect you. His attention was still attention from him.
You grinned and batted your eyelashes in a way you knew would make him falter. “I told you already. It reminded me of you.”
Kunikuzushi was still scowling, but his arm no longer extended like he was seconds away from chucking the palm-sized stuffed toy. It was still staring at him, and you were reminded of those pets looking like their owner videos.
“How long have you had this?” he asked, voice much quieter. His ears were red.
“Probably since you left to visit Japan.”
“A week?”
“A week!” You gasped. “That’s shorter than your last trip. Did you miss me that much?”
He cocked a brow. “This is more home than that shithole.”
You wanted to coo and tease him for that rare glimpse of vulnerability (even when veiled by his indirect wording), but you knew what he meant—you knew what it felt like. Your quiescent house only ever felt like a home when Kunikuzushi was here.
“Should I buy you a plushie that looks like me for you to take?” you wondered aloud, genuinely considering it. The stupid badtz-maru plushie you bought out of a moment of weakness from missing him, no matter how ridiculous, helped you when your arms felt a little lonely.
“No need.” Kunikuzushi threw the plushie to the bed, ignoring your alarmed shout. He drew you in by the waist and smiled in that deceptively sweet way only he could really pull off. “I’ll just take the real deal along with me instead.”

January 2018 Events Wrap-up
Well, we are off to a great start for 2018 at Have A Hart Day!  Over 40 volunteers across two countries and eight cities gave up 35 hours to love on their communities.  <3 
In South Bend, 4 volunteers with @haveahartsbn created 17,500 hair ties, 1,280 strands of assorted ribbons (to later make into hair ties), 4,200 Popsicle sticks (with encouraging messages written on them), and 210 "encouragement" sticker pads were all sorted into 70 Team Bags for the May 12th 5K and stored until the event!

In Melbourne, 1800 KG of food packed onto pallets to be sent to food agencies for distribution by 2 volunteers!

Our @haveahartdayboston​ group gathered 9 volunteers to pack over 4000 lbs food, equivalent to 140 meals!!

The @haveahartdayseattle​ group + another group scooped 2,424 pounds of carrots, which broke down to 12,120 servings of carrots! HAHD volunteers as well as the other groups did 606 servings each!

A US recession began in February in the face of coronavirus (AP) The U.S. economy entered a recession in February as the coronavirus struck the nation, a group of economists declared Monday, ending the longest expansion on record. The economists said that employment, income and spending peaked in February and then fell sharply afterward as the viral outbreak shut down businesses across the country, marking the start of the downturn after nearly 11 full years of economic growth. A committee within the National Bureau of Economic Research, a trade group, determines when recessions begin and end. It broadly defines a recession as “a decline in economic activity that lasts more than a few months.”
New York emerges from its virus lockdown (NYT) New York City will take the first steps toward reopening today, a moment of optimism in a city battered by the coronavirus. Nonessential construction and manufacturing can resume, and retail stores can open for pickup. As many as 400,000 workers could return to their jobs. The milestone comes 100 days after the city reported its first case. Since then, more than 211,000 residents have been infected and more than 21,000 have died. The confirmed infection rate has dropped sharply since the peak in mid-April.
Clothes off, masks on: Reopening a nudist resort during a pandemic (Washington Post) The Butt Hutt remains closed. The popular lakeside bar at Florida’s oldest nudist resort is still shuttered, even as the rest of the Lake Como Family Nudist Resort in Lutz slowly reopens. The Bare Buns Café, for instance, now allows limited seating on the screened patio and under the pool deck canopy, albeit with everyone six feet apart—and please bring a towel to sit on. “We’re in the first phase of our four-phase reopening plan, with phase four being everything goes back to normal—but whether we’ll actually get to that, nobody knows,” said Mike Kush, marketing director of Lake Como, founded in 1941 as the Florida Athletic and Health Association. Like all other aspects of the tourism industry, Florida’s nudist resorts have been hurt by the coronavirus and stay-at-home orders. Lake Como was open only to its 200 year-round residents; the 800 who visit regularly were locked out. The resort also canceled three of its biggest events, including its Dare to Go Bare 5K Run, which usually attracts 150 unclothed competitors.
False police reports (NYT) An encounter in Buffalo last Thursday—in which two police officers shoved a 75-year-old man to the ground and left lying him there while blood poured out of his ear—was troubling partly because of the original police account. The account claimed that the man “was injured when he tripped and fell.” If a video hadn’t existed, the truth might never have come out. That’s a widespread problem: In Philadelphia last week, the police said that a man had pushed an officer off his bike; a video instead showed an officer striking the man with a baton. In a suburb of Sacramento in April, a police officer punched a 14-year-old boy multiple times while arresting him; the officer’s report didn’t mention the punches. The Minneapolis police’s account of George Floyd’s death initially left out the most important details, like the knee pressed on his neck for almost nine minutes. False police reports are not a new problem. What’s new are the videos that have caused people to realize how common they are. “When I was a reporter, it was the police officer’s word against the victim’s or suspect’s,” Jamie Stockwell, a deputy national editor at The Times, told me. “Cellphone video has changed the debate over policing.”
Americans more troubled by police violence than protest violence (WSJ) Americans by a 2-to-1 margin are more troubled by the actions of police in the killing of George Floyd than by violence at some protests, and an overwhelming majority, 80%, feel that the country is spiraling out of control, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
New statistical study questions basis for Morales removal (Foreign Policy) A new study by independent researchers, and reviewed by the New York Times, has thrown the reasoning behind the ouster of former Bolivian President Evo Morales into doubt. Researchers were unable to find the same irregularities in voting data that caused the Organization of American States (OAS) to declare the elections of October 2019 rigged. “We took a hard look at the OAS’s statistical evidence and found problems with their methods,” Francisco Rodríguez, one of the researchers, told the Times. “Once we correct those problems, the OAS’s results go away, leaving no statistical evidence of fraud.” Since Morales—the country’s first indigenous president—fled Bolivia, the country has been under the control of interim President Jeanine Añez Chavez, a Bolivian of European heritage.
In violent Rio, U.S. protests stoke backlash against deadly cops (Reuters) The killing of another black teenager by Rio de Janeiro police last month was, based on the numbers, unremarkable—one of hundreds gunned down every year by some of the world’s deadliest cops. But the fallout has surprised many. Brazil’s Supreme Court last week banned raids by Rio police during the COVID-19 pandemic and Sunday saw nationwide marches against right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro, as U.S. demonstrations and a global debate over racial violence by police has spurred a reckoning in Brazil. Rio’s police force killed 1,814 people last year, according to official statistics. They killed 606 more in the first four months of 2020. Yet anger at 14-year-old João Pedro’s death and other recent complaints of police brutality are boiling over in Brazil.
Russia confronts a warming country (Foreign Policy) Russia’s Prosecutor-General’s Office has ordered a review of all hazardous materials held on permafrost in the wake of last week’s collapse of a diesel tank in Siberia that caused one of the worst fuel spills in recent history. Rising temperatures in Siberia have begun to melt the region’s permafrost, and temperatures in May were up to 10 degrees Celsius above average.
The China-India border (Foreign Policy) Tensions between India and China over a border dispute appear to be easing after a meeting between military leaders from both countries on Saturday. “Both sides agreed to peacefully resolve the situation in the border areas in accordance with various bilateral agreements and keeping in view the agreements between the leaders that peace and tranquility in the India-China border regions is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations,” a statement from India’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. Chinese and Indian forces clashed in May, prompting fears over a wider conflict between the world’s most populous countries.
Protests against racism in Japan (Foreign Policy) Protestors took to the streets of Tokyo and Osaka over the weekend to protest racism, both at home and abroad. A video of a Kurdish man being shoved to the ground by Tokyo police officers has spurred hundreds to the streets. A protest over the man’s treatment already prompted protest in Tokyo on May 30, and one person was arrested. “We all know what’s happening in the U.S.,” Nami Nanami, 28, told The Japan Times. “The same thing is happening in Japan but nobody is talking about it.”
New Zealand says coronavirus ‘eliminated’ and life can resume without restrictions (Reuters) New Zealand has eliminated transmission of the coronavirus domestically and will lift all containment measures except for border controls, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Monday, making it one of the first countries to do so.
African success in COVID-19 response (Worldcrunch) Three months ago, as the pandemic began to spread beyond Asia, many worried that Africa was particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. Yet, so far, the toll has been relatively contained across the continent. In Africa, there have been a total of 189,598 recorded cases, compared to over two million in Europe and over three million in the Americas. Kazuha, to be frank, felt a little embarrassed.
His features stood out too much, his friends told him. To go out and enjoy the fresh air of the day, he had to not enjoy the fresh air with a face mask, conceal his red streak of hair by clipping it back and burying it under a cap, and wear green-tinted sunglasses (also to disguise the red of his eyes) that he was struggling to get used to.
In his defense, His friends weren’t any better. Aether’s braid could be recognized with only that, Venti’s glowing braids weren’t any better, Heizou’s shade of hair and green eyes would stand out—if not his unique voice, and everyone knew Xiao even if he were to shave all his hair off. Scaramouche could be salvageable, but one word from his mouth and his fans would fall to their knees—it could be his voice, but it would be the attitude.
Kazuha felt a little too hot with his disguise, but he wanted this, so he would go through with it. He tugged his mask under his nose, relaxing at the scent of the open air. The mall had an open area with trees all over; the leaves fell to the ground, and the wind brushed past. Kazuha couldn’t feel it, having been stuffed under layers, but he was satisfied.
Although it felt embarrassing to be clothed in this disguise, he couldn’t go outside this freely before. He was going to make the most of it.
And then he passed by a stall that had him doing a double take. Kazuha took a few steps back, lighting up with recognition. He couldn’t be mistaken, not with that familiar symbol of Anemo. The stall displayed a light stick of their group, released only a few days ago.
His friends would have a blast if he came back with it, most likely, Kazuha mused. Maybe he could bring it back as a gift.
A hand shot out from the side, blocking his view of the light stick. Kazuha blinked, a little surprised. He followed the arm's stretch and came face-to-face with an angry stranger.
“Hey, you!” you said. Kazuha felt like he needed to stand straighter at the tone. “I had my eye on this one first, ‘kay? Whatever number you have in mind—keep it. I finally get my hands on one of these; I’m not letting it go!”
“Oh, this was an auction?” he asked curiously. The stall didn’t seem to be being run by anyone at the moment, and no one else was there.
“Well, no,” you sniffed, “but I would win. I already told the seller I called dibs on this one—wait until she gets back.”
Charmed, Kazuha smiled. “Two thousand.”
“Three.”
“Three-thousand, five hundred?”
“Five-thousand, three hundred.”
Kazuha had to wonder: “How much do these usually cost?”
“Five thousand, if you’re lucky. I’ll make it ten thousand, easy. Are you still not backing down?”
Kazuha laughed under his breath. Were you serious? Were you actually willing to drop that much for this? “Alright, I cede. I apologize for attempting to defeat you.”
You grinned, eyes sparkling quite literally as your gaze slid back to the lightstick. You were very pretty. “Yeah, I thought so.” You eyed him curiously; Kazuha suddenly felt a little shy. “Are you a fan as well?”
Kazuha nodded, unable to tear his eyes away from your genuine smile for a few moments. His eyes drifted down to your shirt, which had the same Vision of the lightstick—but there was something else. “You could say that.”
Your shirt had maple leaves swirling around the logo, and Kazuha could recognize it all too well because he was asked to sit down and draw it for their merchandise—something personal for each member. Did Kazuha have the right to suspect what it meant that you were wearing his?
Emboldened, Kazuha gestured at the lightstick. “As a fellow enthusiast, may I extend my offer to cover this purchase?”
You blinked and stuttered. “W-What— You don’t have to! I literally stole it from you!”
“So you confess that you pried it off of me?” Kazuha teased.
“That’s not—Listen—” You stared at him, then got flustered. “Hold on, are you hitting on me?”
“Yes.” He took off his sunglasses and tugged down his mask, flashing a sweet smile that he knew was utterly unfair. Your face bluescreened out of pure shock. Without the mask muffling his voice, it was clear as day. “So, will you let me?”

Resolution 5K benefits Shriners Hospital
The fourth-annual Resolution 5K Run attracted more than 300 people on New Year’s Day and raised more than $4,000 for Hillbilly Christmas in July (HCIJ) while kick starting the New Year on the right foot.
All proceeds will benefit HCIJ, a non-profit organization established to help provide free medical care to Shriners Hospital for Children patients.
Bartley Medical Weight Loss and Double Quick partnered together to host the Resolution 5K Run. At the race, Double Quick officially announced their Boot Camp approved menu that became available on Jan. 2 at the Pikeville Double Quick. Individuals were able to sample the Boot Camp approved food at the race.
Runs held for HCIJ raise approximately $25,000 each year.
“We will have our Run Hog Wild Race on Sat., May 27 and White Lightening Run 5K + Half Marathon on Sat., July 1,” Shelebra Kinney Bartley said.
In addition to the runs, several other events are held during the year as fundraisers. Some other events that are being held this year are the Motorcycle Bike Ride on July 16 and Hillbilly Days Pig Drop Contest.
“The Resolution 5K Run is a tradition we are proud of and look forward to carrying out each year,” Bartley added. “I am dedicated to helping Pike County get fit while helping the kids at Shriners Hospital for Children.”

“How about you, bro? Do you have a crush on anyone in this room?”
Itto was looking at Heizou with wide eyes, expectant. You had no idea how free-time led straight to this conversation, but everyone was sharing their crushes in the other class or a whole school away. Most of the class was huddled together in a circle, watching the exchange with equal faces of amusement and anticipation. You sat on the same side but made yourself comfortable in a corner, swaddled in a brown cloud-patterned hoodie.
Heizou hummed thoughtfully, drawing it out as everyone else held their breath while you held in a laugh. “A crush? Why do you want to know?”
“Come on, dude, we all wanna know what Shikanoin Heizou’s type is! Right? Don’t we?” Itto grinned at the affirmative murmurs that erupted all around. Perhaps it was because, to them, Heizou was the most mysterious one of all—he knows everything about anyone, but it wasn’t the same when it came to him.
Heizou just laughed. Itto pouted, then whipped his head around to direct his attention to you.
Flinching under his fiery gaze, you demanded, “W-What?”
“You’re best bros with him, aren’t you? You gotta know what his type is! He never talks about the girls in our school!”
Well. It would be for the best if he didn’t. You shook your head and matched Heizou’s amused grin. “I don’t know, either, honestly. He’s probably too busy burying his face in mystery novels to care about all that.”
Itto visibly sagged. “Lame. You two are so lame! Well— what about you? Do you have a type?”
“Of course I do.” The class perked up, interested. They began piping up with a list of names and features—tall, serious, light-haired. Heizou was slowly getting more agitated by each feature that described his complete opposite. “I like smart guys.”
Itto nodded. “I guess you wouldn’t be able to resist me.”
You chuckled. “You got me right there.”
Heizou’s chair scraped the floor, followed by his light footsteps. You watched, heart racing, as he made his way towards you before pinning his arms on your desk.
“You never told me that,” Heizou said. “Have I told you my type?”
You grinned. “Do you even have one?”
Heizou drew closer. Your vision blurred, and you went cross-eyed trying to follow him. Lumine, who was sitting peacefully beside you, inched away.
“When they wear glasses—just like this one,” Heizou whispered, your lenses fogging a little from his breath.
Your face burned.
“Wait, what? What did he say? Did anyone catch that?” Itto huffed when no one did, in fact, hear that—which was for the best. They didn’t have to know how deep Heizou’s voice got as he stared right into your eyes.
“Well,” Heizou leaned back and smiled innocently at the class and a despaired Itto, “this was an enlightening conversation, but I realized I don’t actually know my best bud that well. You understand, right, Itto?”
Itto nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah—yes! I know, man, I get it. Real buds have serious conversations—I understand. You’re welcome for rekindling your friendship.”
“Thanks, man,” Heizou said distractedly, taking your hand and leading you out of the classroom.
“They’re such best buds,” Itto said, starting to cry.
