Assembled by director Chris Smith from years’ worth of material from a great variety of sources and unified by a watery Philip Glass score, it is a poetic and philosophical adventure story that is about a lot of things besides surfing, which are also things that surfing is about: humans in nature; recklessness and responsibility; fear and fearlessness; science and spirituality; friendship and competition; dependence and independence; fun and obsession; planning and what can’t be planned for; possession and sharing; civics, time, age and always, potentially death.
“The winner is always the nature.”
“You're completely absorbed in the moment, time goes slow you know? You are intensely present. You become part of something that is greater than you. Part of nature, part of the universe. It's what makes them feel alive.”

[book review] Kill the Villainess by Your April
Tumblr media
4.5⭐️/5
This is not your regular reincarnation story. This is stress story waiting for high blood pressure. Every single chapter is only a pressure and stress. First, I can said all the characters of the original novel are beyond saving already. Nope, they cannot be saved. Especially the Crown Prince, Emperor, Empress and Jason. Hubris was the other level of madness. I will never blame Eris, or her reincarnation for going crazy and want to die. I cannot said much about Helena, since she already justified pathetic. Anakin was the only character that sane in a weird way.
Let me list down what is wrong with them. Marquess was greed man and willing to pawn his daughter for his own sake. Crown Prince was delusional and heartless. He was prince for the god sake. Why you blame Eris for your own suffered? Emperor was greed of power and cruel. He love to play with other's feeling. He killed Empress' staffs for Empress attempt suicide. He force his son to forceful to Eris just to secure the power. Empress, please channel your anger toward Marquess and Emperor. Eris was not blame for your son's death. Jason, save your guilt to yourself. Don't push yourself to Eris when clearly she said no. Hubris, the incest game was damn wrong in so many level. Eris was your half-sister! Yeah, technically the soul was not her, but physically was still her. God, you are disgusting. Helena, your character was so pity. You have no power and you just follow other so you can live. Anakin, sweetie, you done your best. You follow her to her world, even though you know nothing about you. You love her so much that you follow her to the end of the world. That was brave.
I read maybe the automatic translation, so the language is all over the place. with help of NovelUpdate and the Manhwa, thankfully I am able to understand that.

Escape From New York
Tumblr media
In an alternate timeline where New York City has been isolated from the rest of the world and used as a dumping ground to place the worst members of society, a highly decorated marine turned bank robber is sent in to rescue a kidnapped president.
During one scene the anti-hero protagonist is pitted in a gladiatorial battle inside a battered old wrestling ring against a brute portrayed by former NWA Hall of Famer Ox Baker. The duo have a back and forth battle using spiked clubs and dustbin lids for shields.
Features Wrestler:
Ox Baker as Slag
Wrestle Rating:
4.5 out of 5 audio cassettes
Tumblr media
An excellent action movie by acclaimed directed John Carpenter that introduced the world to infamous Snake Plissken character. Ox was a great choice for the role and displays some traditional heel mannerisms to rile up the crowd.

Goth Listening Club Throwback Thursday: Hada- In the Heart of an Endless Winter
Tumblr media
Lets revisit an album from our earlier days that a lot of people didn't get a chance to hear! I liked this one a lot when I heard it, I would especially recommend it to those who are particularly into a more ethereal sound.
"I always love a concept album and I feel like this album is really able to take you somewhere else. We also don't see enough swirly/romantigoth around ! It also blends in darkwave and postpunk. Overall a very solid album in my opinion, and I've been listening to it a lot, especially "Ice, Eden" and "Ouranos"' (original submitter)
LISTEN ON: bandcamp / spotify / apple music

Finally, a decent statue. I prefer these aesthetic stone statues with realistic body proportions and shapes. The cross I'm not a fan of.

halloween marathon 2022
as someone with anxiety who gets paranoid, i don't watch horror movies often. but, today i still wanted to watch films that i think would be in-theme for halloween but still be tolerable for me. so here are my halloween picks bc i'm a coward (p.s.: all of them are first watches)
american psycho (2000) dir. mary harron — 4.5/5
Tumblr media
i felt insane by just watching this
i think what makes this filmbro movie about masculinity so good is the fact that it's directed and written by women and a queer man AND patrick being a music nerd is so funny to me
i'd say more about this if i didnt fall asleep in the middle of watching it and only continue it a week later for halloween
what we do in the shadows (2014) dir. taika waititi, jemaine clement — 4.5/5
Tumblr media
HELL YEAH SILLY VAMPIRES
i have terrible hearing and i would appreciate this much more if this had subtitles on soap2day :,,) but still there were so many good QUOTABLE!!!! lines and it was so so funny that my mom heard me laughing from outside😭😭
the way it was filmed, the fictional documentary style, is kinda rare to see (to me at least) and i wish i could explain it better but i like it !! i guess it makes the movie feel more real in a way, and this makes me wanna watch more movies like it. it feels like a slice of life?? but fantasy?? like a regular youtube documentary😭 /pos. like its about vampires dealing w modern life and they filmed it in a very modern way and i think thats neat!!!
these vampires (and stu!!) are so precious
black swan (2010) dir. darren aronofsky — 4.5/5
Tumblr media
this one was actually scary (at least compared to the previous movies i watched today). i think i would've appreciated it much more if i didn't watch a video essay about this before watching the actual movie (and basically discovering the entire story so i guess that ruined it...)
but holy shit well done though that was incredible??? it got me constantly wondering what's real or not. it definitely made me uncomfortable
i am a music person and i like how there's music playing all the time (speaking of music i just remembered there's a bts song with the same title and its one of my most played bts songs and iirc also about art and perfection??)
perfect blue (1998) dir. satoshi kon — 4.5/5
Tumblr media
first of all the version on soap2day is in eng dub and i wish it was the original but anyways
i absolutely love the themes explored in this film (which are quite similar to black swan) (and those themes were handled INCREDIBLY WELL), like the issues of the entertainment industry (particularly exploitation and fandoms), what reality is (pls it got me confused so much like what the hell), and the artist going insane. the similarities to black swan are so obvious.
then again i wish i could've appreciated this much more so i'll def rewatch it sometime
WOO I AM DONE everything getting 4.5 was unintentional HELP

“I had hardly come to this conclusion when I heard the great door below shut, and knew that the Count had returned. He did not come at once into the library, so I went cautiously to my own room and found him making the bed.”
now that time and influence has cemented him as one of the big pop cultural horror monsters, the image of dracula tidying up the covers, not to mention in a slightly desparate way, is hysterical
