Anyone who says high school math is useless has apparently never tried to get an office admin job in 21st century America

#like i hate math but i also hate when people say math is useless #because my struggles with math make me feel really insecure about getting a job #when i have to essentially do a 12 minute timed standardized test #to get a job?#i have no idea how much they’ll weigh this #hopefully i did ok #i mean i probably did #I’m usually pretty decent at standardized tests #but i freeze up so hard with mathematics word problems #i can do math! i just have to go slowly!! and it’s frustrating to get these hurdles to jump through #when i know i can do the job #just if you want me to figure out how many marbles sally has when john has half the amount and Steve has 3x and there are 380 total #like I’m going to need an extra minute to write it all out #also to be clear even if these tests weren’t a thing high school math is not useless lol #it’s providing an educational foundation like any other base level subject #do i wish it could be reformed because i had a godawful time learning it when it was based on punishment? fuck yes #literally some of my worst memories are crying over math homework #but it’s still not useless

Bill Criminalizing Librarians Revived - again.

April 21, 2023: After the sound defeat of language calling for felony charges against librarians and educators in SB 12 and SB 380 earlier in April, the Indiana legislature is once more considering criminalizing librarians and educators for the materials on their shelves.

Here's the Indiana Capital Chronicle on the situation:

The legislators themselves don't know yet what bill the language will be slipped into, but we expect they'll hear it next week, possibly as early as Monday, April 24.

What To Do:

They're moving fast, so if you live in Indiana and feel strongly about libraries and censorship, please call your reps and senators NOW. Even if you already contacted them earlier this session!

Here are some talking points and the general gist of our concerns:

Charging librarians and educators with felonies is not an appropriate response to the issue of challenging books.

It is a librarian or educator’s job to ensure that children have access to a range of well-reviewed quality books. They are trained and follow objective processes for material selection.

Libraries and schools already have processes in place for challenging books on their shelves, and these processes work.

Whew! 😅 This was a scenic trip on the struggle bus for sure, but here it is! Details & download below.

This was supposed to be a quick project, but...well, you know how it goes. After much headdesking, here's a 4t2 conversion of @kiwisim4's gorgeous Kauri Living. I love the midcentury modern vibes and the cheerful colors and patterns. It's one of the larger downloads on this simblr (file size-wise), but I think it's worth it. 💜

Not only was your face right in Buggy’s crotch, you also had the smell of milk and gravy permeating your nostrils from what had soaked into his pants. That and what could only be described as… musk. You placed your hands on either side of his legs to push yourself up with a gasp.

“God, that stinks,” you said, cringing. “You do wash your pants, right? Please tell me you wash your pants.”

Buggy’s mouth was agape, blushing furiously. “How are you so calm about this?!” he yelled after a moment of stammering. “You just went head-first into my junk and you’re asking me about laundry?!”

“What the hell am I supposed to say?”

“Nothing! You say nothing! You get up and you leave!” Buggy put his boot on your shoulder and pushed you away with a grunt. He kneeled and picked up what food he could off the floor while grumbling under his breath. When you, too, got on your knees and tried to help, he gave your hand a smack and glared at you. You glared back.

“Maybe you already know this, but walking in on you was an accident, okay?” you muttered.

“I said not to talk about it,” he whispered angrily. “In fact, just, never talk to me again. Don’t look at me, either. Captain’s orders.”

“Don’t be stupid.”

“I’m not stupid, you’re stupid! Why would you come in, anyway?!”

“I thought you said not to talk about it!”

“Orders revoked, tell me why.”

You groaned out a sigh. “I thought you were hurt, okay? You were moaning like, like — a wounded animal! I was concerned!”

“Oh, yeah, right, like you’d care if I were hurt,” he said in a mocking tone, and he finished picking up the food on the ground, then got to his feet and stomped away.

You were dumbfounded for a moment, still kneeling on the ground. “The hell does that mean?!” you called after him, but it was too late. He was already out of sight.

Around the corner, Buggy paused and leaned against the wall, feeling like an idiot. There was no chance you’d be interested in him now. Maybe it was better this way. And, maybe, he wouldn’t think of you again.

Boy, was he wrong about that.

Hello, I prepared some statistics to give you a short overview of Ghost's amazingly successful 2022. It is based on data I collected between 22/12/2021 and 22/12/2022.

The big Ghost event of 2022 was of course the release of the band's fifth album, IMPERA.

Since March 11, it has sold nearly 500,000 copies, won the American Music Award for Favorite Rock Album and received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance ('Call Me Little Sunshine').

Within the first week of its release, the album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 (ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States) and ranked in the top 20 best-selling albums in 19 countries across the world:

#1 in Sweden, Austria, Germany, Finland, Spain

#2 in US, UK, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands

#3 in Australia, Canada

#5 in Switzerland, Ireland, France

#7 in Poland

#8 in Hungary

#12 in Denmark, Portugal

#20 in Italy

IMPERA is Ghost’s best charting album to date.

On YouTube, the band amassed a staggering 260 million views. 840,000 people subscribed to the channel this year, which makes up 42% of all current subscribers.

It goes without saying that the viral success of Mary On A Cross on TikTok brought in a lot of new fans this year, but the magnitude of it becomes even more astonishing if you look at numbers.

On this graph, I marked a few events that resulted in a noticeable spike in the number of monthly listeners on Spotify, including the approximate time when MOAC began to gain traction on TikTok. As you can see, nothing, not even the release of a new album, gave the band as much attention as the 3-year old song suddenly raising in popularity on one single platform.

Between end of July and beginning of October, the number of monthly listeners on Spotify skyrocketed from 2.5 million to 12 million. This is a 380% increase.

Although the numbers have been in decline since then, it appears that for the past month they have stayed at a steady 9 million. As of today (Dec 22, 2022) the exact number is 9,110,996. Exactly a year ago (Dec 22, 2021) the number was 1,999,951. A hefty 355% increase in only a year.

Some other milestones and fun facts:

On June 7, Cirice, Dance Macabre, and Square Hammer were all certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 units in the USA. Following the viral success, Mary On A Cross was also certified Gold on November 20.

The band's most liked post on Instagram this year was a video of Papa throwing the first pitch at the White Sox game (273,241 likes).

The episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live where Ghost performed Call Me Little Sunshine was watched by around 1.3 million people.

In September, Ghost reached over 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify and was the 450th most streamed artist globally - that's 450 out of over 11 million!

As of today with over 1.6 billion accumulated streams Ghost is one of the 1,000 most successful artists on the platform of all time (currently #808).

On September 11, Mary On A Cross peaked at #1 in the Viral Hits chart on Spotify in 54 countries across the world.

It was also the highest charting Swedish song on the platform in 2022, peaking globally at #31.

At this point I think it’s safe to declare that Ghost’s global success reached unprecedent heights this year and even allowed them to officially join the ranks of mainstream artists. With all of the above, 70 completed shows this year and many more to come in 2023, and with media of the likes of The Wall Street Journal proclaiming Ghost “the next generation of arena stars,” it looks like that the band is well on the way to become one of the biggest rock acts of this century. Not bad for a side project started by one Swede in his bedroom somewhere in Linköping.

Let us hope 2023 will be as devilishly good!

I think I can pinpoint the exact years Caleb and Phillip went to the boiling isles and when they were born.

On the Owl House Wiki, on The Gravesfield tab it says Gravesfield was founded in 1635.

The Connecticut Witch Trials occurred 11 years later. And if we look on the Wethersfield Historical Society page, it says:

“Epidemics visited the region in 1647 and 1648.” As we know, Caleb and Phillip were orphans when they came to Gravesfield and we also know travel was probably limited back then. So it’s possible their parents were killed from a disease back then in a neighboring town. So it can be assumed Caleb and Phillip moved to Gravesfield sometime in 1648-1649. If we looked at pictures from Hollow Mind, we can see that Caleb wasn’t lured away until years after they arrived in Gravesfield.

They both look very young in the first photo. But Phillip looks younger. So they were most likely born in different years. I’d say it’s a safe bet of a 2-4 year age gap. And considering how young they look, I’d think Phillip is around 8 years old and Caleb is around 11 years old. And if that memory occurred soon after they arrived in Gravesfield, let’s say 1649, then that puts Phillip’s date of birth in 1641 and Caleb’s date of birth of 1638! Now the photos afterwards seem to have gaps of times between them. In the photo where Caleb is looking at the fire, I’d say Caleb looks 15/16ish which makes Phillip 12-13 years old. But when Phillip finds himself in the Demon Realm, he looks much older, possibly 16. So I theorize that Evelyn set up a portal connection between them for years, and Phillip wasn’t able to find it. When he does, I think he watches Caleb go in, but doesn’t follow him immediately, otherwise they would’ve found each other immediately in the memories instead of Phillip looking in his 20s when he sees Caleb. (Caleb magically looks the same what?-) I think Phillip went back to Gravesfield, told them about the Witch that lured his brother into a portal, grabbed his book, bag, and coat, and went back after the portal. It would have been quick, because the portal most likely would’ve closed quickly. 5 minutes at most. So when everyone from town came back with fire or whatever, Phillip went in first and the portal closed right after. Obviously Evelyn, being the smart witch she was, would’ve known someone came through and probably had a way of making sure no one was outside when she went through. So she kept Caleb with her and permanently closed the portal. Caleb obviously would’ve wanted to go back and find his brother, so they set to work on making a new portal that would open in a different location, aka the portal door, which was completed near the same time Caleb found him, and Evelyn buried it so Phillip would never find it (spoiler alert, he found it, but like 300 years later). But I got off topic bc I like theorizing. In conclusion, that means Caleb and Phillip went missing in 1657, roughly. I’m probably incorrect and someone on the owl house crew probably already said the year, but whatever. That also means Phillip is like 380 years old haha.

tl;dr: Caleb was born in 1638, Phillip was born in 1641, and both were lured away in 1657.

Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill (17 June 1775) was a major engagement in the initial phase of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), fought primarily on Breed's Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The colonial troops successfully defended Breed's Hill against two British attacks, but ultimately retreated after a third assault. The battle was a British victory but cost them heavy casualties.

Prelude

By mid-June 1775, nearly two months had passed since the blood of colonial militiamen and British regular soldiers had been spilled on the Old Concord Road (modern-day Battle Road) connecting the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord. The intervening weeks had seen nearly 15,000 militiamen from across New England lay siege to the town of Boston, which was occupied by around 6,000 British soldiers commanded by General Thomas Gage. With the presence of British warships in Boston Harbor, the British garrison could keep itself supplied from the sea, while a lack of gunpowder and a poorly defined command structure prevented the colonial troops from mounting an assault on the town. This resulted in a standoff as the opposing armies – one comprised of untrained provincial farmers, the other considered the most disciplined fighting force in the world – waited for the other to make the first move.

General Gage, by this point, was an unhappy man. A year earlier, he had been appointed military governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, entrusted with restoring royal authority in the wayward colony. But instead of reasserting British rule, Gage had allowed the colony to slip further from Parliament's grip and had consequently lost the confidence of King George III of Great Britain (r. 1760-1820). Even before news of the Battles of Lexington and Concord had reached London, the king's ministry had dispatched a triumvirate of handpicked generals to assist the frustrated Gage in his duties; generals John Burgoyne, Henry Clinton, and William Howe had set sail for America aboard the vessel Cerberus, arriving in Boston on 25 May 1775. The generals, all of whom had well-established reputations in England, were appalled to find that soldiers of His Majesty's army were being besieged by country peasants and urged Gage to break out of this humiliating situation.

Boston, at the time, was confined entirely on a peninsula and was connected to the mainland by an isthmus known as Boston Neck. The colonial soldiers controlled access to Boston Neck, thereby cutting the British off by land, and were concentrated in the nearby towns of Roxbury and Cambridge. The British plan, mainly composed by General Howe, was to launch a surprise attack on Boston Neck and seize the strategically significant position of Dorchester Heights. After fortifying the heights, the British would sweep the Americans out of Roxbury before occupying Charlestown, located on another peninsula to the north of Boston. The British would then fortify the three hills overlooking Charlestown, which included Bunker Hill, Breed's Hill, and Moulton's Hill, before making the final push that would drive the provincials out of Cambridge. Howe suggested that the attack should take place on Sunday 18 June; the New Englanders, known for their piety, would likely be attending religious services and would have their guards down.

The British plan was, of course, made in secret, and was finalized on 12 June. However, the secret did not even last 24 hours before Howe's plan was delivered to the Provincial Congress, the acting American government of Massachusetts; the informant was an anonymous New Hampshire "gentleman of undoubted veracity" who had "frequent opportunity of conversing with the principal officers in General Gage's army" (Philbrick, 380). With five days to go until the British attack, the Provincial Congress decided to act preemptively, and instructed General Artemas Ward, commander of the ragtag New England army, to construct additional fortifications. On 15 June, General Ward elected to send a detachment of soldiers under General Israel Putnam to occupy the Charlestown peninsula; specifically, Putnam was ordered to seize and fortify Bunker Hill, which, at 33 meters (110 ft), was the tallest of the three hills on the peninsula.

Pontifex Maximus - The pope was called Pontifex Maximus, the great Bridge Builder - the only one able to send the soul to heaven. This strange title of the pope, still in use today, came from papanism through pagan Rome. The Pontifex Maximus (Latin; literally the greatest bridge maker) was originally the high priest of the pagan College of Pontiffs (Collegiun Pontificum) in ancient Rome.

The name Catholic: The term Catholic, entered the Christian church in an edict by the Roman Emperor Theodosius on February 27, A..D. 380, in the Theodosian Cod XVI. i.2. It was accompanied by an order to hunt down and slay all who would not join the Church.

Power of the dragon - Worshiping the beast is, in fact, worshiping the dragon, who is Satan (Rev.12:9). For the beast is but the visible agency of the dragon, carrying out the dragon’s program. The era of the revived Papacy in the last days will also be characterized by a period when spiritualism is especially active. Behind spiritualism is Satan working with all deceivableness of unrighteousness (2 Thess. 2:10).
