Clippings: How It Was Made
This piece was generated from a very cool writing prompt game hosted by The Voidspace Magazine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted the piece that be fluid, so that there was no specific order that the three sections had to be read in. I wanted it to feel like a series of memories that can bubble up at any time unbidden. So, I modifed a template I found here:
and made them into an infinity card:

Want to make your own copy? Here's the template:
And here is a little tutorial I put together:
If videos aren't your speed, I also made this photo guide:

Feel free to customize it with watercolors, colored pencils, stickers, anything! I'd love to see your booklets if you feel comfortable; just tag me in a post or reblog!

I feel moved to do this so I’m gonna
I can only speak for the US, but if you think covid isn’t a big deal anymore you are being lied to. on multiple levels.
First and most important, covid is airborne. It was always airborne. This is a well-established fact in the medical community and has been for awhile. What this means is that, in indoor spaces and crowded outdoor spaces, it is chilling in the air and you are inhaling it with every breath you take. The more virus you inhale, the sicker you will be. The gov knows it, the cdc knows it, everyone knows it. Nobody wants to say this to avoid accountability that they fucked up the initial response with a focus on droplets, and they don’t want “panic”. Plus it will obviously cost them more.
herd immunity was never, and is not going to be, a thing with this virus
You can and will get reinfected. And with every infection, you’re at higher risk of severe disease and organ damage, including your brain.
Two very large studies on Long Covid have recently come out, and in summary, it is very real and you don’t want this shit. It’s estimated that 1 in 5 infected people will get it and there is no cure yet. Even if we find one, organ and brain damage is not reversible.
covid is causing an increase in brain disorders
this is an LA emergency room today as of August 27 2022 It’s like this all over as you can see in the comments.
children are at significantly higher risk for covid complications
masking doesn’t hurt kids’ speech development
earloop masks don’t do shit to protect you at this point and this is well established in the medical community. It’s N95 or higher or you have very little protection. Any mask is better than no mask. If you have absolutely no choice but to use ear looped masks, a mask brace helps significantly
you can get a p100, a mask with even higher filtration than n95, on amazon for $30. This is the one I bought. Here are more p100 and elastomeric masks you can buy safely
here is an indepth video on how to perform a DIY fit test at home using instructions from the US Army. You should be doing this with every mask you have (if you’re curious as to why federal mask mandates were never enforced or even discussed, it’s because federal law mandates that companies have to fit test every employee if masks are required for airborne protection and they can’t/don’t want to figure out how to work around this for the general public. You need to fit test for a mask to work accurately.)
one of the key components to actually returning life to normal for everyone, including the disabled, is air filtration. The Corsi-Rosenthal Box is a cheap, open source air filter that’s on par with more expensive filtration systems. At it’s best, it reduces 80% of the covid inhalation dose, which is the equivalent of a group of people all wearing decent quality, fitting masks. This not only helps against covid, but also reduces exposure to other respiratory illnesses and even allergies! People all over the country are making these and donating them to schools, businesses, people in need, etc. Here’s a video on how to make one yourself and I highly recommend you do if you can. If you don’t like masks for whatever reason, this is how we get rid of them
here is an awesome thread about traveling during covid
If you’d like reviews on various types of masks and if they pass fit tests, this is the guy you wanna follow
if you’re looking for graphs and charts and statistics, you wanna follow this account
if you wanna know more about air filtration, literally everyone in the medical community worth their salt is constantly screaming about it on twitter, but I recommend following this guy
and if you want accurate information about covid, then you should follow one of the first whistleblowers for the disease. He’s been right about everything so far, and he’s also posting accurately about monkeypox
NOW HOW ABOUT A FEW GOOD THINGS??????
a very promising prophylactic for covid, called Evusheld, exists and has been authorized for emergency use in the US. If you are immunocompromised, over the age of 12, and 88+ pounds, please harass your GPD and pharmacy to give it to you!!!! It is actively being suppressed and the us gov isn’t buying supply, so most medical professionals don’t know it exists and will fight you about it. Even if you aren’t in the US, it’s available in over 100 countries!!!!!
Novavax is a new and very promising vaccine that would be effective for emerging variants, and it’s working better than the current vaccines to prevent infection. But, again, the US is refusing to buy supply and the FDA is dragging their feet because the current administration is pfizer’s bitch :)
also, in general, I know it sounds scary that covid is airborne, but we have a lot of airborne diseases, and we know how to fight them. They aren’t magic. We can and do manage them all the time. It’s just that for some reason (capitalism), we’ve decided not to this time.
but the information is still available. We don’t have to lie down and let this thing destroy our communities and isolate our disabled and vulnerable neighbors. We have the ability, at any time, to end this shit for real and make our local communities safer, with or without the gov’s help.
we just have to do it.

The Kellogg's Brand Boycott and How It's Going So Far
In late February 2024, Kellogg’s CEO Gary Pilnick suggested that households with tight budgets save money by eating cereal for dinner during an interview with CNBC. Understandably, Americans didn't react too kindly to the suggestion. Federal data shows that Americans are spending more on food than they have in the last three decades. Many who heard Pilnick's remarks noted that Kellogg's brand cereal has risen by 17% in the last year. Angered consumers on TikTok called for a three-month boycott of Kellogg’s products.
(Story continues below the image.)
Tumblr media
As far as I've seen, most of the current news on this boycott has been on social media or not at all. Sure there has been some coverage since the first week of March here and there. My guess is because Kellogg's is a major American advertiser who spent $756 million on marketing in 2022. Of the $64.5 million Kellogg's spent on TV advertising that same year, CBS, NBC, and ABC were the leading networks to receive that bounty and you can read about that here. Hence, why the links I shared above ain't from any of those outlets. They are not trying to screw with those ad buys by actually being impartial.
What I especially love is how content creators didn't just tell folks to stop buying Kellogg's. They gave boycotters helpful tips on alternative brands to buy in lieu of Kellogg's here, here, and here. They also offered DIY recipes for Cheez Its, Rice Krispies, Pop Tarts, and Frosted Flakes.
While, the boycott is not technically supposed to start until April 1st (and last through June 30th), folks (like me) have already stopped shopping and Kellogg's and Kellogg's is suddenly going nuts with special offers and changes in marketing tactics like these, these and these. We will check back in a few months to catch up on the boycott and social media developments. -Tangentially Speaking

Little libraries -
Free little Libraries are a great passive mutual aid project. Originally inspired by DIY projects they are easy to build, are generally low maintenance once established, creative and fun artworks within themselves, and its a great way to introduce a gift economy into your neighborhood!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
History-
2009- Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, built a model of a one room schoolhouse. It was a tribute to his mother; she was a teacher who loved to read. He filled it with books and put it on a post in his front yard. His neighbors and friends loved it, so he built several more and gave them away.
UW-Madison’s Rick Brooks saw Bol’s do-it-yourself project while they were discussing potential mutual aid projects. They were inspired by community gift-sharing networks, “take a book, leave a book” collections in coffee shops and public spaces, and most especially by the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
2010 the name Little Free Library was established and the purpose of these Little Free Library book exchanges became clear: to share good books and bring communities together. As Bol and Brooks continued to give away Little Free Libraries with wooden charter signs, engraved with official charter numbers, curiosity and demand for more Libraries grew. The acceleration centered on the enthusiasm of early adopters and stewards, who were crucial advocates. Some small grants and informal partnerships began to have an impact on Little Free Library’s ability to keep up with demand.
2011 brought national media attention, and by the end of the year there were nearly 400 Little Free Libraries in existence. That number would skyrocket to over 4,000 Libraries within a year.
2012  Little Free Library became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the states!
Little Free Libraries have continued to grow by leaps and bounds every year. In 2022 we surpassed 150,000 registered Libraries in more than 120 countries worldwide. Even establishing an online map and app to help people locate the libraries!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
How do I do this?
The little library website hosts a bunch of plans and blueprints to make a library or get ideas for locations. Even having ready to order kits if you want!
You will need either land or public approval to establish one however, this can be by the city, neighbours, or other public spaces but they are technically put on private land. You wont find anyone ho would object to their installation but I would not recommend just installing one unless your okay with it being taken down.
Pick a location that has a lot of foot traffic and be highly visible to anyone nearby and is accessible as possible.
Register your library! You can get an official charter sign by doing this step!!
Fill it up with books!!

Can I call you mine this year? - Xavier Thorpe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: you celebrate new year's eve together with your friends and give out gifts, counting down to the new year and while you were busy admiring the fireworks outside, someone else was admiring you 🎇
Warnings: just fluff really, kissing, mention of fireworks, lmk if i missed anything
Word count: 1.2k
A/N: i really don't know how to feel about this title but i couldn't think of anything else im sorry. i would also like to wish you all a happy new year, and i hope you enjoy!
Requests: to the person that sent me a request, im currently working on it but wanted to post this one first, any other requests are always welcome btw, could also be different genre from what i usually make
———————
"Omg this is so pretty, thank you thank you thank you thank youuu", Enid said to you while suffocating you in a hug. You and your friends were having a new year's party together and decided to do a secret santa, everyone pulled a card last month with the name of the person they had to make a gift for. Since you wanted to avoid someone getting a cheap lame gift, everyone had to diy their present. This way everyone would get an authentic and personal gift, which turned out to be one of the greatest decisions you've ever made.
Once Enid finally let you go from her tight grip, it meant you were up next. You still didn't know who pulled your name, so you looked around at the people that haven't given a gift yet. It could be Wednesday, Eugene, Divina, or Xavier. You saw Xavier get out up from his seat and walk towards you with a huge grin on his face, he placed his gift to you on your lap before returning to where he was sitting. You looked suspiciously at Xavier before shifting your attention back to the present. It had a rectangular shape and was very flat, an idea of what it could be already coming to your mind. As you carefully unwrapped your gift, your eyes widened at the sight of it.
"Xavier this is beautiful.", you looked up at him again with your mouth slightly open from shock. He had made a drawing of you, which was what you had expected, but you didn't think it would be a drawing of you out in the snow. A few days ago, you and your friends went for a walk in the forest as it had snowed overnight which caused the entire domain to be covered in a thick layer of snow. You were looking at the drawing again, recollecting memories from that day, when suddenly the drawing moved. He was using his powers to bring his gift to life right in front of your eyes. You could now see the snow slowly falling from the sky, laughter could be seen on your face. It was truly one of your favourite moments with your friends, and now you can remember this time forever because of this artwork.
“That’s not fair, he’s using his powers to impress them even more!”, Ajax yelled out causing everyone to laugh a little. Obviously, Xavier would use his powers for your present, he knows how fascinating you find it when he does that. He knew that if he didn’t show you now, you’d probably be begging him to do it later.
You were the one getting up from your seat this time, walking over to Xavier to pull him into a tight hug. "Thank you so much, this has got to be one of the best presents I've ever gotten.". You gave him a very small kiss on his cheek to express how grateful you are for what he gave to you.
The secret santa continued and soon enough it was time to count down for the new year to start. Everyone was standing around the television, looking at the timer going down. You can’t believe another year already went by, and that you get to say goodbye to 2022 with all these new friends you’ve made on the way. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the screen as the last minute went in, while you were looking around at the people you loved most. A smile crept up your face, a part of you didn’t want the year to be over yet, but part of you also couldn’t wait to see what the new year would bring you. What crazy adventures you’d experience with the group, if you would finally start living up to those new year’s resolutions, and if you might meet the person that belongs with you. At that exact moment, you made eye contact with Xavier. He was already looking at you, who knows for how long, a soft smile was plastered on his face as well. You felt like he could look right through you, like he could hear every thought of yours.
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1…HAPPY NEW YEAR”
Everyone jumped up with joy, embracing the people around them. While everyone was celebrating the new year, you and Xavier were still looking at each other, it felt like your eyes were glued to his and his to yours. But after what felt like an eternity, Enid pulled you into a big hug which caused you to break the eye contact. After letting go of Enid, you went around the room giving the others a hug too. As you were hugging Bianca, you looked out the balcony window to see fireworks going off outside. You’ve always loved to watch the fireworks so without looking back at anyone, you went outside on the balcony to admire the spectacle happening in the distance.
The sound of the footsteps coming near you made you turn around to see who it was, your eyes locking with Xavier once more. The others were still inside dancing and singing to some music, but you didn’t pay attention to them at all. All you could hear was the distant crackling noise of the fireworks, and all you could see was Xavier standing dangerously close to you now. You smile at him before looking up at the sky, being completely mesmerized by the lights. Xavier was too, but by something else he found captivating.
“Isn’t it beautiful?”, you ask not taking your eyes off the tiny explosions.
“Incredibly beautiful.” Xavier responded but you noticed he wasn’t looking up at the night sky like you were, instead he was looking directly at you. You turned your head into his direction, faces only inches away from one another. You could feel your entire body heating up, you were certain your face had turned a dark shade of pink. For a second, you saw his eyes look at your lips, but they quickly went back up to meet your eyes. The fireworks reflected in his pretty green eyes, making this moment feel even more magical than it did before. Without realizing it, the both of you were moving closer to each other. And before you knew it, his soft lips had found their way to yours. The kiss was slow but passionate, your hands pulling him in closer by his neck while he did the same with your waist. It felt as if there were fireworks going off inside the two of you, and neither of you wanted it to ever end.
After what felt like forever, you slowly pulled away for a second to catch your breath, your noses still touching. “I like you, a lot.”, you heard him say and you would be lying if you said it didn’t make you feel things inside. “I really like you too.”, you returned the feeling by making him feel warm now.
“Can I call you mine this year?”
Without saying anything, you pulled him in for another kiss, hoping this would give him the answer he wanted. As you were deep in your thoughts, you could hear loud cheering coming from inside and when you looked at the window once more, you saw all your friends basically sticking to the window. Assuming they heard his question and saw your response very clearly, it looks like you weren’t the only ones waiting for this to happen.
If this is how the new year started, you can’t wait to see what the future holds.

NINE PM NEW FIC JUMPSCARE!!
You know that post-Skybound guitar DIY therapy headcanon I keep bringing up? Time to give that an origin story. I don't know when c2 will be ready, but I hope it's as quick as c1 - I wrote this in the span of an evening, that's how excited I am for this. It's a little different than my usual stuff tonally, but still in line with my mission to lift the Skybound genre out of Lake Angst. I hope you enjoy it!

Ukrainian-born serial entrepreneur Karolina launched WeDoSolar in February 2022, just days before Russia invaded her homeland.
‘It was a super hard time because I also have family and a lot of friends in Ukraine. I was going to the borders, picking people up, developing my product, raising my round with investors, and it was just a completely crazy time.’
The company offers lightweight super-thin photovoltaic panels that tenants can clip onto balcony railings by themselves, without needing an electrician. A smart 5G inverter, also developed by WeDoSolar, converts the solar power into grid power by simply being plugged into a normal power socket, and the company’s specially designed battery system allows users to choose if they want directly to power their household devices, or save the energy to use when it is needed most.
‘Our products are all designed with a DIY aspect in mind in order for anyone to be able to simply hang it on the balcony, plug it into a power socket, and that’s it,’ says Karolina, adding: ‘In an average apartment, our solution, working at full production capacity, can reduce electricity bills by up to 25% and save up to 600 kilograms of CO2 per year.’
An app tracks how much solar power has been produced and also shows consumers their CO2 savings in real time.
‘The spark for WeDoSolar was ignited by a personal desire to use solar energy in my own apartment,’ Karolina recalls.
With soaring energy prices, the first balcony solar kits sold out instantly. The start-up had expected it might have 3 000 customers within the first year, but saw nearly as much demand in the first month alone. WeDoSolar now supplies to 24 EU countries.
