Science, not just for scientists: 100 ideas
youtube
What is it? The British Science Association’s new campaign to crowdsource 100 ideas from scientists and non-scientists to show that anybody can engage with science. The ideas include, ditching exams, promoting collaboration between science and religion and holding a national ‘science-free Friday’.
It’s good because it aims to integrate science into our society and breaks down barriers between the public and the scientific community. It highlights that you don’t have to wear a lab coat to engage with science!

100 Ideas- Branding Column
3 Things Learned
1)  “The best designers understand that stagnation kills a corporate personality. Without variation an organization appears inflexible and, therefore, unable to adapt to new developments.  Too much anarchy, however, and shareholders become wary of the corporation’s stability.  Corporate identity is a fine balancing act for a graphic designer.” (Corporate Identity, 79)
2)  “Deployed in major airports worldwide, the campaign highlighted the fact that nothing should ever be taken for granted, an unconventional message for a bank.  But the key to establishing a brand– any brand– is to be explicitly different.” (Branding Campaigns, 141)
3)  “Creating a brand is not the same as designing a corporate identity program, though the confusion still persists.  A brand is a great deal more than a logo, more than a graphic universe, more even than the sum total of all its visuals, slogans, and ancillary products.  A brand is an invisible entity, a story in the mind of consumers, a sense of excitement at the prospect of seeing, touching, or acquiring a particular thing.  In other words, a brand is a compelling story.” (Brand Narratives, 149)

Week 14: 100 ideas “Branding”
In the Entrepreneur section i figured out that a common theme of this book and graphic design is mind manipulating. Which is kind of crazy to think of all these little things in their work are meant to influence you to a certain idea. It almost makes me try to find the things in the art that they don’t want me to see. In the Brand narratives section i reread some information that i kind of already understood such that brands have to try to appeal to certain types of people and most brands are trying to get the interest of as much people as possible and how companys need to be like google ever changing to keep people interested and not switch. I learned in the Guerrilla advertising section that not all guerrilla advertisments are meant to be aggressive or hostile, they were initially used for political campaigns that weren’t able to get a hand on mass media but needed a way to promote themselves.
