The Corpsemouth
Prompt: Sparklers & Fireworks
Fandom: Scarletvision (Wanda Maximoff and Vision, MCU)
Word Count: 2047
Warnings: Mentions of a horror monster and a full smut scene.
***
“Are we sure that this is a wise idea, Mr. Stark?” Vision asked. He trailed behind Tony, dragging Wanda by the hand as she struggled to keep up with his large strides.
Tony scoffed.
“Relax, Mother Hen. This is the best idea ever.”
Only, it wasn’t the best idea ever. Not even close.
When Tony decided that their Fourth of July celebration would close out with a fireworks show conducted by the billionaire himself, Vision knew it wouldn’t end well. And now, here they were in the dark after a rogue firework spiraled out of the perimeter and hit the power lines. Luckily, Thor and Steve were able to put out the small fire that started in the aftermath.
“Well that was fun,” Clint deadpanned, slapping his knees and standing. “Can’t believe I left the family barbeque for this. I’m going home.”
“You’re no fun, Barton!” Tony yelled as the archer disappeared in the darkness.
“You know…” Sam started, his voice low. “This is the perfect time for The Corpsemouth to appear.”
“The what?” Natasha asked, rolling her eyes. “That doesn’t even sound like a real thing.”
“Oh, it’s real,” Sam confirmed, the sound of a beer cracking open piercing through the inky air. “He takes advantage of situations like this. Ambushes when people are at their most vulnerable.”
“We’re never vulnerable,” Thor laughed.
“You say that now,” Sam warned. “But you won’t say that when Corpsemouth is dining on your throat.”
“Dining on… throats?” Vision piped up. He gulped. “This Corpsemouth… how bad is it?”
“Worse than Ultron,” Sam said.
“How so?” Vision asked.
“He won’t spare you time with pointless conversation. He’ll just kill you and ask questions later.”
“You’re full of shit,” Natasha spat. “There’s no such thing as The Corpsemouth.”
“Perhaps he’s right,” Vision said, taking Wanda’s hand. “We wouldn’t want to be caught off guard.”
“Sam,” Wanda warned. She gave Vision’s hand a light squeeze. “Stop it. You’re scaring him.”
“I am not scared,” Vision insisted.
But his grip on Wanda’s hand told a different story. Vision, while tough as nails when it came to battle, was a proverbial school girl when faced with a ghost story. He didn’t even like half of the Halloween episodes of the sitcoms he and Wanda watched together. There was no way the talk of Corpsemouth wasn’t scaring him.
“They call him Corpsemouth because that’s how he kills you,” Sam went on, his voice a low brooding rumble for effect. “With his razor sharp teeth and jaws like an alligator.”
“Excuse me,” Vision said, standing abruptly. He disappeared into the shadows but it was clear he was walking to the compound.
“Dammit, Sam!” Wanda snapped. She stood up and took off in the direction Vision went.
It was nearly impossible for Wanda to see on her way to the compound. She raised her hand up, using the scarlet orb that floated above it as a source of light. It wasn’t much, but it got her to the front door. She pushed the door open with her free hand and slipped inside.
“Vis?”
She searched the first floor, hoping she’d find him in the living room, but no luck. He must have been in his room, hiding away from the teasing tones of Sam and his stories. The thing about Vision is that he probably knew the story was horse shit; that Sam was just trying to have a little fun in a less than stellar situation, but it still scared him. He still had trouble differentiating fact from fiction when it came to the supernatural.
As expected, he was in his room. He sat on one of the large chairs, staring at the wall. Wanda opened the door loudly and coughed, announcing her entrance but approaching Vision slowly. She placed a hand on his shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze.
“You know he was fucking with you, right?” Wanda asked. “There’s no Corpsemouth.”
“I know,” Vision replied. He stood up and turned to face Wanda. “But at that moment, I was unable to convince myself that Sam’s story was fabricated.”
“Well, it’s over now,” Wanda said, putting her arms out for a hug. “And it’s not real.”
Vision walked into Wanda’s arms, setting his head on top of her head as her arms wrapped around his waist.
“Come to my room?” she asked. “I’ve got candles and we can play with those dice you like.”
“I’d really like that.”
***
The room was illuminated in a soft glow from the candles Wanda lit, the two of them sitting on Wanda’s bed.
“You roll first,” Wanda said. She dropped two black dice into Vision’s hand and waited for the result.
He rolled, letting the dice go between them on the bed.
“Pinch. Ears.” Vision tilted his head in confusion. “I suppose I should do as I’m told?”
Wanda grabbed her ears.
“They’re all yours.”
They laughed and Vision extended his arms, taking Wanda’s earlobes between his thumbs and forefingers. He gave a quick pinch as Wanda giggled and then dropped his hands.
“That was a bogus roll. Mine is going to be better,” Wanda gloated, grabbing the dice from the bed and rolling them. “Bite. Boobs.”
Wanda laughed again, this time a loud guffaw that echoed in the dimly lit, silent room. Vision knew what to do. Slowly, he lifted his shirt to show his chest.
“Please watch the Vibranium,” he said. “I wouldn’t want you to chip a tooth.”
Wanda nodded and moved in, finding a spot on Vision’s chest that was skin. She opened her mouth and sunk her teeth in gently, lightly nipping at the spot. Vision shivered under her movements, bringing a hand to the back of her head.
“I need to stop,” Wanda said, allowing Vision to move his hand from her head before she resurfaced. “If I didn’t stop, I would have kept going lower and we only just started the game.”
“Foreplay is an essential component of a healthy sex life,” Vision recited. He grabbed the dice and shook them around in his hand, letting them go in the middle of the bed again. “Massage. Nipple.”
Wanda sucked on her bottom lip, eyeing Vision. It was her turn to lift her shirt and she lifted it and her bra in one quick motion. Her breasts bounced with the force as Vision’s eyes went straight to Wanda’s nakedness. Wasting no time, he reached out and with two fingers pressed the pads against Wanda’s nipple. Slowly, he began to rub circles around the nub as it hardened under his fingers.
“Vis,” Wanda moaned, thrusting her chest forward. “Use your mouth.”
“But the dice-”
“Please.”
Vision complied, moving in on Wanda’s left breast he took the hard nipple in his mouth, sucking on it and swirling his tongue around the nub.
As Vision pulled away, Wanda grabbed the dice from the bed.
“Last roll,” she said, her voice coming out huskier than usual. She didn’t bother pulling her shirt down. Instead, she pulled both garments over her head and flung them across the room before rolling the dice.
“Kiss,” Vision read, his eyes slowly moving to the second die. “Balls/Labia.”
A sudden rush of laughter hit both of them. The dice made it sound ridiculous, but Wanda knew that this would definitely lead to so much more.
“I guess we should listen to the dice,” Wanda said playfully. She crawled on her hands and knees toward Vision, prompting him to lie back on the bed as she got closer.
Without hesitation, Vision phased out of his clothes, leaving him bare and waiting for Wanda to comply with the dice’s command.
Wanda moved closer, taking Vision’s soft cock in her hand and lifting it up so she could get to his balls. She was careful with her movements as she closed in and pressed her lips to Vision’s balls.
It went silent, and then suddenly, they were laughing again.
“That was so weird,” Wanda admitted. “Having to just kiss your balls like that. You’re not even hard.”
“Not yet,” Vision replied coyly, his eyes traveling to where Wanda’s hand was still wrapped around his cock.
For Wanda, the message was clear and she was ready to get to work. She closed back in on Vision and wet her lips before slipping his soft cock into her mouth. She swirled her tongue around the head, and across the slit, reveling in the way that she could take him fully into her mouth before he was fully hard. She fell into an easy rhythm, sucking and licking every inch of him.
Vision’s hands fell to Wanda’s head, combing his fingers through her hair as she bobbed up and down on his cock.
Wanda felt Vision getting harder in her mouth, and he was quickly too big for her to fit in her mouth completely. She pulled back, adding her hand to the rhythm. As she worked on him with her mouth, she also pumped her hand up and down his length.
“Wanda…” Vision croaked, lifting his hips and pushing himself further into her mouth. “Don’t stop.”
Wanda had no intention of stopping. She ran her free hand up Vision’s stomach, dragging her fingers along the mixture of soft synthetic skin and strong Vibranium, finding a spot where the two met. Only she and Vision knew it, but he was ticklish where skin met Vibranium. She moved her fingers to a spot just on his stomach and traced the seam.
Vision immediately tensed up, a moan turning into a laugh and back into a moan when Wanda started laughing. The vibration of her amusement against his cock sent him into a spiral of bliss, his hips coming up again, driving his cock into Wanda’s mouth, hitting the back of her throat.
Wanda pulled away, his cock coming out of her mouth with a wet pop.
“You’re eager tonight,” Wanda observed, amusement playing on her face. She changed positions swiftly, going from lying between Vision’s legs to shedding her pants and underwear and hoisting her leg over his body, his cock coming to rest between her ass cheeks. “This might be a better option for us tonight.”
Wanda sat up, reaching back and taking Vision in her hand, guiding it to her middle. When the head parted her lips, she quickly sank down on his cock, sheathing him inside her before lying down flat against Vision’s chest.
“Go for it,” she instructed, letting him know he was free to move his hips and fuck her however he wanted to.
Vision’s arms wrapped around Wanda’s body, his knees popping up as he pressed his feet flat against the bed for leverage. He pulled out halfway, slowly, but when he thrust up, driving himself back into Wanda his movements were quick, rhythmic and relentless.
With their bodies pressed together, they worked as one to find their bliss.
Vision came first. His moan became an apology for doing so, one that Wanda didn’t want to hear.
“Shhh, don’t apologize,” she said, caressing Vision’s face. “I just want to hear you moan for me.”
All words that threatened to fall from Vision’s lips disappeared at Wanda’s request. He let his orgasm wash over him, apologies turning back to moans as he emptied inside her. His next move was quick. He sat up, taking Wanda with him and flipped her onto her back. He pulled his cock out of her and brought his fingers to her clit, rubbing the sensitive nerve with care and determination.
“Yes, Vis! Just like that,” Wanda cried out, swirling her hips underneath him. With a few more strokes, it was Wanda’s turn to come, legs shaking with the intensity of it. She yelled Vision’s name, not caring who heard her in the quiet of the blackout.
As Wanda came back down, her breath evening out and her senses returning, Vision caressed her thighs, helping her calm down.
“The dice win again,” Wanda finally said, laughing. They’d never gotten to use the dice very long, any instruction given to them always quickly escalated into something more. Vision joined in the laughter, the deep cadence of his chuckles was music to her ears and she smiled to herself, knowing that any thoughts of Corpsemouth were now gone from Vision’s immediate memory.

WandaVision Season 1 Review
The new era of Marvel Television begins with WandaVision. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff has continued her grief stricken life in wake of the death of her lover Vision. With her powers ever growing Wanda takes the small town of Westview hostage to cope in a mind-binding super hero take on classic and modern sitcoms.
WandaVision is a 2021 superhero sitcom, it is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney. It aired exclusively on Disney+. Season one is currently available in its entirety.
Editor’s Note: Near complete to complete spoilers for WandaVision and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole may be present within this review.
The next stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins in WandaVision.
WandaVision begins a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the first of insanely big budgeted TV series for the Disney+ platform. After the shut down of Marvel Television and incorporating it into Marvel Studios proper many were worried about the future of Marvel properties coming to the small screen. Thankfully while it’s not necessarily on traditional TV the small form Marvel content will continue in even greater heights due to Disney’s push for it’s streaming platform. And WandaVision is already a big part of that move. Acting as an homage to classic sitcoms old and modern WandaVision is a superhero trip that’s for fans of all Marvel content.
WandaVision’s consistent roller-coaster ride story keeps viewers on their toes.
THE GOOD: The series takes place sometime after Endgame. The world is still recovering from the snap reverse & the fact that time has skipped for a majority of the world. Wanda, still grieving over the loss of her lover Vision has lost control of her powers and even some of her sanity. She unknowingly uses her powers to change the small town of Westview into the image of the TV sitcoms she watched with her family as a child. Fearing her power Wanda is investigated by S.W.O.R.D a government agency meant to be the space focused version of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Monica Rambeau has a particular interest in Wanda sympathizing with her after losing her mother to cancer. Believed to be having a waning mental state Wanda changes the world design of Westview based on different eras of TV sitcoms. Wanda is eventually revealed to be mostly sane choosing Westview as her method of coping having lost Vision twice.
As the world design changes so does the storyline Wanda created for the series, including the title, aspect ratio, and cast of characters. Wanda becomes pregnant and soon gives birth to twins. Meanwhile S.W.O.R.D has been sending in agents in an effort to stop Wanda and save the citizens of Westview. But they instantly become apart of Wanda’s Westview upon entering. Even the sympathetic Rambeau becomes a victim of it. The more S.W.O.R.D. intervenes the more erratic Wanda becomes in retaliation. Rambeau eventually regains herself after escaping Westview and returning to real life.
Vision becomes suspicious of Wanda after strange interactions with his co-workers & neighbors. The twins have also begun aging at an accelerated rate and also gain superpowers. One night Vision finally has enough and questions Wanda only for her “brother” Pedro to appear. This Pedro is in the form of the FOX’s X-Men universe, but Wanda has complete recognition of him. S.W.O.R.D ramps up it’s attack on Westview and Vision finds the exit for the altered Westview. As he attempts to escape the area, Wanda’s powers resists him and he’s nearly erased. When his son feels Vision’s pain Wanda increases the reach of the altered Westview which encases others including Darcy who was helping S.W.O.R.D.
Vision and Darcy become apart of the rebooted Westview with slight memory loss. Vision recognizes Darcy and they work together to return to Wanda. However, the world is rejecting them causing a multitude of distracts that stop them in their tracks. Eventually regaining their memories Vision flies off to Wanda, leaving Darcy behind. Wanda feels as if she’s losing control of the world and Agatha Harkins who kidnapped the she reveals she was behind all of the chaos. Agatha reveals that she is an actual witch from the Salem trials era and wanted to absorb Wanda’s powers to control the Darkhold an ancient spell book with powerful magic. Agatha also reveals that Wanda holds the title of Scarlet Witch an ancient witch with chaos magic abilities. S.W.O.R.D unveils a man-made version of Vision which was made from the original with intent to be controlled on their command.
As Agatha threatens the boys in front of Wanda and Vision returns only to be attacked by White Vision. A dual battle ensues between Agatha & Wanda and Vision & White Vision. After a conversation Vision returns White Vision’s memories causing him to abandon S.W.O.R.D. and fly off. Agatha & Wanda’s fight makes it to town where the citizens memories have returned. Begging Wanda to free them she complies only to stop when Vision & the boys begin to disappear. Monica who had returned to the world with her DNA changing her into a superhuman offers to help Wanda. She & the boys along with Vision fight and defeat S.W.O.R.D who were intervening.
Agatha has released magical runes which has taken over the altered Westview. Just as it appears that Wanda has been defeated she reveals that she tricked Agatha. Taking control of Agatha’s runes Wanda transforms into the Scarlet Witch and defeats Agatha. Instead of killing Agatha she returns her to her fake Westview personality as a hostage planning to use her vast knowledge in the future.
Head of S.W.O.R.D, Director Hayward is arrested for his actions. Monica and Agent Woo who had been trying to protect Wanda take care of clearing her name as she heads off with her family. As she releases Westview from her control she says goodbye to her family. Monica is visited by a Skrull posing as a human who invites her to the S.H.I.E.L.D station in space. Wanda studies the Darkhold in her Scarlet Witch form and suddenly hears her children crying her name.
WandaVision is a story of overcoming loss and grief.
Initially, WandaVision is rather slow paced, but picks up around episode threeish. As a fan of nearly all of the sitcoms parodied I think the series personally connects with me more than the average viewer. I was able to get all the references and inside jokes, but I can see someone who isn’t particularly a fan of even one of said sitcoms being lost & put off from the direction. Also just wanted to shout that I was shocked a bit seeing the Malcolm in the Middle repping, but happily so as it’s probably my favorite sitcom of all time. This was surprisingly laxed in action compared to previous MCU work. However, given the focus was to establish magic, multiverses, and other key Marvel elements into Phase 4 this is understandable. Though I can see the heavy focus on story & world building being a major turn off for casual MCU fans. In regards to the action, while it was there it’s what you’d expect from a big budgeted Marvel project. However, I must stress that there’s a rather large absence of it.
The twists and turns that start to unfold midway through the series is a fun ride. And WandaVision knows how to have fun with itself. Commercials were used as inside jokes and one even references Hydra. Kathryn Hahn as Agatha also kind of stole the show with her always on energy. She flourishes with the comedic villain character type. The acting as a whole is probably some of the strongest currently in the MCU.
The series features big implications for the future of Marvel Studios.
THE BAD: The series is a slow burn in such a way that you may have to take small breaks. Normally binging would be an advantage here with every episode being available. But even so it can be a turn off until about episode three or four when things really kick into place. There’s also some balancing issues with the storytelling. Like for example there’s a mailman who frequently pops up as if he’s an important character to the show like Agatha, but it goes no where. There’s a handful of times where it felt like the story went there with certain threads. Also viewers should be warned that this is lacking on action compared to previous Marvel efforts. With most of said action being restricted to the final episodes.
WandaVision is a successful first entry into the Disney+ Marvel TV era.
OVERALL THOGHTS: WandaVision isn’t perfect, but it sets up the future of the MCU in a beautiful way. Though there are a few pointless teases and some stories feeling like they were flat out dropped. Despite this, WandaVision (mostly) lives up to it’s hype. Even with some early opening hiccups for the series. Otaku Dome gives WandaVision an 80 out of 100.

The Picture of the Mind Revives Again (1/?)
Title: The Picture of the Mind Revives Again (1/?)
Rating: T
Word count: 1532
Warnings: None
Summary: Sequel to “A Formula, A Phrase Remains.” Title is from “Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey” by William Wordsworth.
Vision has gone missing after Shuri, Bruce, and Helen revived him. Now they must tell Wanda what they did without her knowledge.
A/N: Onto the second part of this story. We’ve had some new material and news about the future of Wanda and Vision in the MCU, and the MCU as a whole, since I started my initial plan, but I think I will be ignoring most of it. I am completely disregarding the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home; none of it happened. I may feature a little more Strange and Wanda interacting due to the news that she will be joining his sequel, but that’s about it.
Instead of alternating POVs between Wanda and Shuri, this part will alternate between Vision and Wanda.
And now, with gleams of half-extinguished thought,
With many recognitions dim and faint,
And somewhat of a sad perplexity,
The picture of the mind revives again:
While here I stand, not only with the sense
Of present pleasure, but with pleasing thoughts
That in this moment there is life and food
For future years. And so I dare to hope,
Though changed, no doubt, from what I was when first
I came among these hills; when like a roe
I bounded o'er the mountains, by the sides
Of the deep rivers, and the lonely streams,
Wherever nature led: more like a man
Flying from something that he dreads, than one
Who sought the thing he loved.
-          William Wordsworth
Vision tried to move his fingers and toes, but his limbs were slow to respond to his thoughts. Buzzing filled his head. He opened his eyes slowly, and the world gradually came into focus. All of that was forgotten as he remembered who and where he was. He expected the to hear the sounds of battle all around him, but there was only the quiet hum of computers.
He called out, “Hello.” No one answered. His thoughts were sluggish. There was something very important to remember. Wanda! She had jumped into battle just moments before. He forced himself to his feet and walked toward the window. He finally realized that he was in a different room when the view outside the window was not the wide-open field that he was expecting. Instead, it was a view of the city. He recognized the Wakandan style of architecture, so he was evidently in the palace. But he could not understand why there were no signs of struggle.
Vision attempted to scan the internet to find the answers he was seeking. He was shocked when the timestamp read September 2024. How could he have missed more than six years already? His body slumped against his will. He struggled to bring it back under his control. It felt as if his arms and legs belonged to someone else. He managed to lean against the wall to support his weight as he continued to search.
A search for “Wanda Maximoff” brought up articles concerning recent missions with the Avengers. One article described how the team had recently been handed keys to New York City. A picture showed her smiling with one arm around Sam and one around a blonde woman he didn’t recognize. Sergeant Barnes, Peter Parker, and another man he had never seen before were also present. Wanda was on several lists as the number two and number three most eligible bachelorettes in New York City. Vision also scanned through and quickly closed several Reddit threads about her.
Wanda seemed happy at least. Vision knew how she would hide her true feelings, and he wished to speak with her to ascertain that her surface appearance was an accurate representation of her emotional state. But she had the team. She was still able to be an Avenger and help others, as she always talked about wishing she could return while she was a fugitive. Most of the articles he read lauded her powers and her efforts and proclaimed her a valuable member of the team, as Vision thought they should. People were finally starting to appreciate her as she deserved. He was so proud of her.
Vision forced himself away from Wanda and to the world at large. From what he could gather, Thanos had been successful in his plan, half the population of the universe had disappeared, and they had returned five years later. A full year and more had passed since then. Despite Vision’s free access to the information, the weight of all he had missed fell heavily on him. There was still so much he did not understand. How was he functioning? His hand went to his forehead. He felt the ridges of a stone, but that did not make sense. If Thanos tore his Stone from his forehead as was reported, how was it still in his head?
He heard footsteps approaching his room. Without thinking, Vision phased himself through the wall, remaining incorporeal as he floated above the city. He needed someplace to sit and think, alone. He traveled to the forest. When he found a convenient branch where he could perch, he widened his search to discover more about the world today.
Vision researched the other Avengers. The roster was quite different than it had been. He bowed his head in grief when he realized both Tony and Natasha were gone, having sacrificed themselves to save the universe. One of the men in the picture was Doctor Stephen Strange. He had apparently become Wanda’s mentor, if certain news articles were to be believed. Sergeant Barnes had been healed by Princess Shuri and had joined the team. King T’Challa had taken on a larger role while focusing most of his energies on Wakanda. Vision scrolled through information on others who were also only with the team part of the time; he knew none of these people. He tried and failed to process all the changes that had occurred.
Vision frowned when he saw that Thaddeus Ross was the president of the United States and was running for re-election. It appeared that he was still not facing accountability for his involvement with the RAFT. It was at least a relief that the Accords were no longer in force.
The sun was beginning to set when several of T’Challa’s Dora Milaje passed underneath him. He slipped further up the tree to hide among the leaves. He did not know why he did not simply make himself known to them. He knew that T’Challa was still king here and Shuri was in charge of developing Wakanda’s technology. Surely, they could help him understand and get in contact with Wanda and the others. But he could not confront another person right now. It was all too much.
Vision remained where he was, absorbing this new world. He scanned through every article he could absorb on the politics, religion, and culture that were all unfamiliar to him. So much was different from what he knew. He could categorize the data, draw up charts and graphs, but he could not truly comprehend the changes.
It was some hours later when he heard a familiar, precious voice. “Vizh! Vision! Are you here?” Wanda collapsed on the ground beneath his perch. She shouted his name a few more times before she broke into wordless keening. His instinct was to go to her, but he could not move. He could see her distress, but he could not feel it. He realized that their mental link, which he had enjoyed throughout the years they had known each other, was completely absent.
Wanda continued to cry beneath him. Vision began to hate himself. What kind of man was he that he did not try to comfort the woman he loved, that he merely watched while she mourned for him? But still he could not force his limbs into motion.
Eventually, Wanda’s sobs quieted, and she rose to her feet, dusting herself off. She walked away from him with renewed exclamations of his name. Vision knew that it was not too late to talk to her. He could follow her, explain how confused he had been, ask her what was happening, beg her forgiveness for not approaching her immediately. She would understand him. Wanda always understood him from the very beginning of his existence.
But still he did nothing. Darkness fell completely and he remained in the same position. Wanda even passed directly underneath him again on her way back to the palace, head hanging low and steps lethargic. But he did not go to her.
When Vision could not bear the thought of remaining in this place any longer, he lifted himself into the air and began to fly away. He found that it was far easier to navigate through the air than to walk. At first, Vision had no destination in mind, simply away from what he had lost, all the people he could not face.
By the time he had been in the air for several hours, he was able to think more clearly. Vision decided he needed a destination with which he had no connection. That eliminated anywhere he had traveled for a mission with the Avengers or searching for his fugitive teammates, and certainly anywhere he had visited with Wanda.
He settled on Geneva, Switzerland. His typical human disguise would not appear amiss there. He could explore an area that he had not experienced.
Vision flew some hours more before he landed in a back alley, remaining incorporeal until he was firmly on the ground. He was grateful that he did not need food or water or shelter, except under the most extreme weather conditions. Now he only faced the question of how he would fill his days.
And there was one more detail that he had to take care of before he did anything else. He needed to explain himself to Wanda. Vision began composing an email, careful to take measures to ensure he could not be traced.
A/N2: All the news we recently learned from SDCC 2019 has reinvigorated my interest in finishing my three-part story because I can’t predict or control what happens in canon, but I do promise a happy ending here.

When The Summer Dies
Prompt: Watching the Sunrise
Fandom: Scarletvision (Wanda Maximoff and Vision, MCU)
Word Count: 2343
Warnings: Ghosts! Paranormal experiences.
***
The world flew by in hues of green and orange, the late summer sun hanging in the sky for just a little while longer. Vision sat in the driver’s seat, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel as Deadmau5 played over the car stereo. The GPS said they’d arrive at their destination in 7 minutes. Wanda shifted in her seat excitedly.
Visiting what all of the paranormal enthusiast YouTubers called “the most haunted farm in New York” was Wanda’s idea. Vision much preferred hobbies with tangible evidence of the truth, but he was going for Wanda’s sake. She’d been itching to get out and visit some haunted locales, and after the mission they’d just returned from, they needed to get away for a little while.
The story was that the large farmhouse on the property made anyone that owned and lived in the home lose their minds. Families had been murdered in that house. Their ghosts are said to still roam the farm each night. Some ghosts were harmless while others were angry. Very angry. The challenge from YouTube was to stay on the farm overnight to see if you can make it to sunrise. There were no prizes involved, just bragging rights were up for grabs. Of course, what they don’t remind you is that stepping foot on the property was technically trespassing, but the small town cops didn’t bother with enforcing that law unless things got rowdy there, but you could count on one hand how many times it had happened.
Vision spotted the farm right away. The intimidating white house came into view first. The green shutters hung by a single hinge on most of the windows. The dilapidated barn followed and as they crested the hill, land. So much land. Most of it overgrown with weeds and shrubbery now that it had been vacant for so long.
As luck would have it, it looked like Wanda and Vision were the only ones staying there that night. They pulled right up to the old discolored house and started their adventure.
“It’s 6:53pm on September 21st,” Vision said. “Sunset tonight is 7:24pm with a sunrise of 7:14am on September 22nd, which also marks the first day of autumn.”
“That gives us about 12 hours here,” Wanda said with a nod. She took a deep breath. “We can do this.”
Vision was skeptical. He knew that every breeze would have them on the edge of their seats, every owl call and every leaf that fell from the trees and all because of tales told on the internet for views and monetary compensation. Vision stopped, choosing to instead remind himself that this was for Wanda. Her hobby was important to her and it would be imprudent to dismiss it.
“We’ll set up the tent there,” Wanda started, pointing to an area about 50 yards away that seemed to be perfectly cleared of any shrubbery. “That must be where everyone else sets up, too.”
It was dark by the time they finished setting up the tent. Wanda, flashlight in hand, found Vision coming back to the car. She put her arms out, prompting him to walk into her them. She hugged him, pressing her cheek to his chest.
“Thank you for doing this,” she said, looking up to see Vision smiling down at her. “I know this is the last place you want to be right now.”
“Anywhere you are is where I want to be,” Vision assured her. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head and swayed lightly with the breeze.
Maybe this won’t be so bad, Vision thought, holding onto Wanda just as the sound of a blood curdling scream echoed through the property. The pair split apart and looked around trying to find the source.
“You heard that, right?” Wanda asked, eyes darting around wildly. “Please tell me you heard that.”
“I heard it. It sounded like it came from the house,” Vision replied, turning towards the white eyesore, its paint peeling from every angle.
Wanda followed his movements and looked up into one of the second floor windows just in time to see a shadowy figure disappear.
“Shit!” Wanda squeaked, scrambling for her phone. “I just saw something in the window!”
With her phone in hand, Wanda began to record the house.
“Nothing is there, Wanda,” Vision said, looking up at the empty window.
“Not now, but there was!” Wanda insisted, ending the recording but keeping her phone out. “Maybe we should go in the house.”
“Wanda, NO,” Vision said as firmly as he could. “We agreed we’d stay away from the property.”
“I have to know what’s in there, Vis.” Wanda said. She grabbed a flashlight and trudged off toward the house.
“Darling?” Vision called, reluctantly jogging behind her. “Can we just think about this logically for a moment?”
“Now isn’t the time to be logical, Vis,” Wanda said, kicking the front door open.
“And now we’re felons,” Vision said, more to himself than Wanda.
As they walked into the dark and dusty house, Vision noticed the temperature decrease by at least 20 degrees. Wanda rubbed her arms to try to keep warm but continued forward, her feet causing the wood under their feet to squeak loudly.
It was when they were in the kitchen that they heard it. The sound of someone walking upstairs and the disembodied laughter of children whistling in the air. Wanda’s eyes grew wide. She said nothing as she bolted out of the kitchen and toward the stairs.
Vision followed close behind. He didn’t have a flashlight like Wanda did, he was relying on the light from hers to guide him. They walked slowly, carefully as if not to scare whatever may be inhabiting the upstairs. Somehow it was even colder upstairs. So cold Wanda’s breath came out in clouds as she whispered to Vision.
“It was that window I saw someone in.”
She pointed to one of the bedrooms on the west end of the house and started toward it, flashlight leading the way. Once they were both inside the room, Wanda began to speak.
“Is anyone here?” she yelled into the air. “Give us a sign.”
Suddenly, the door neither one of them were near slammed shut, the sound of a lock clicking echoing through the room. Wanda ran to it, jiggling the door knob.
“It’s locked from the outside,” she said, looking at Vision with a smile. “Think you could help me out, sweetheart?”
“Yes, dear,” Vision returned. He easily phased through the door, unlocking it with the key that stuck out from the lock.
A small voice reverberated through the house.
“Play with me,” it said with a laugh, the door closed again. “Play.”
“It’s one of the kids,” Wanda whispered. “What do you want to play?!”
Vision could say nothing. He stood frozen to the spot as Wanda communicated with a ghost right in front of him. He always said he’d believe in ghosts when he saw one and here he was, with no other explanation for this phenomenon than the fact that there truly was a ghost in the house.
Wanda walked closer to the voice when suddenly, her body went flying back. Vision barely caught her.
“NO!” another voice said.
This time, all of the doors shut and locked while the front door downstairs flung itself open.
“Get out of my house!”
The voice was not a child’s this time. It was loud, booming and clearly that of a grown man. It was all Wanda had to hear. Her phone was out in no time, recording the scene.
“This isn't’ your house anymore!” Wanda yelled back. She ran to each locked door and opened them back up. “You can’t tell us to leave.”
“If you want us to leave,” Wanda said, spinning around to direct her voice everywhere. “You’ll have to make us.”
Vision cringed. He was ready to get out of that house as soon as he’d gone in it and now Wanda was challenging a ghost to forcibly remove them from the home.
“Time?” Wanda asked.
“9:43pm, darling. That gives us 9 hours and 17 minutes until sunrise.”
Wanda nodded, turning back to the void in the room.
“Sounds like you’re stuck with us for a while,” Wanda said, shining her flashlight at a dark corner of the house, but nothing was there.
Vision, with new found confidence, moved from standing behind Wanda to standing next to her. He grabbed her hand, lacing their fingers together.
“We aren’t going anywhere,” he said, turning to her. “I have your back in battle, I’ll have it here too, even if I don’t quite understand this.”
Wanda smiled, a large, toothy grin that said a million things. She stood up on her tiptoes and snuck a quick, chaste kiss.
“Now where was I?” Wanda said, her voice booming through the empty house. “Where is the ghost that wanted to play? We’ll play.”
Suddenly, out of the shadows of the same corner Wanda just looked at, a red ball rolled out, stopping right at their feet.
Wanda bent down and grabbed the ball, rolling it back to the dark corner it came from as the sound of a child laughing rang out.
But it was short lived. Just as the ball came rolling back it was pushed away by an invisible force.
“LEAVE!” a loud, male voice echoed.
“Wanda,” Vision said, their hands still interlocked. “Let’s be careful with this one. The child seems harmless, but this one wants us out.”
Just as Vision finished his sentence, the house started to shake as though there was an earthquake. Light fixtures swung back and forth, what little furniture was left in the house started to shift and move.
Wanda laughed.
“I’ve seen far worse than that. It’s going to take a lot more than that to scare us.”
“Darling,” Vision said through gritted teeth. “Is it wise to antagonize this ghost?”
But Wanda didn’t answer. The grip she had on Vision’s hand grew stronger, and Vision knew right away something was very wrong.
“Wanda?” he asked, turning to his girlfriend only to see her face contorting in pain. That ghost was doing something to her that Vision couldn’t see and he had only one idea. He scooped Wanda up in his arms and ran down the steps and toward the front door, taking Wanda out of the house and as soon as they were off the front porch, Wanda gasped, desperately trying to catch her breath. Her chest heaved violently as a strangled cry made its way from her mouth.
Vision pulled her to him, hugging her desperately, kissing the top of her head and pulling back to look at her.
“Do you need a doctor?” Vision asked. “I will take you right now. I don’t care one bit about this challenge if it’s going to put your life at risk.”
“No,” Wanda said feebly. “I’m fine, just a little shaken.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. Time?”
“11:53pm,” Vision recited. 7 hours and 21 minutes until sunrise.”
“Let’s just go to the tent,” Wanda said, staggering off to where they set up their tent.
Vision followed behind, not liking at all what he just witnessed, but Wanda was determined to make it until sunrise. And now that they were out of the house, maybe it wouldn’t be as bad.
He was wrong.
Each incident came in unpredictable waves. First was the human-like howling that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere all at once. Then the shadowy figure cast against the tent, but when Vision looked out, nothing was there.
There’d be no sleeping that night. Not with the land trying to scare them away at every turn. Instead, they lay together in the tent, wrapped in each other’s arms. Soft whispers of encouragement that they will make it until sunrise permeated the tent.
It was after the shadows on the tent showed a murder that Wanda started shaking. Vision held her, kissed her head and reminded her it was just the ghosts.
Just the ghosts, Vision thought. He’d never thought he’d say something so ridiculous, but he also wasn’t prepared to deny what was happening on that land.
The stories were true, at least the ones stating the land was haunted. He had no idea how many ghosts had come to mess with them that night, but each one grew more and more terrifying.
“Time?” Wanda asked.
“5:47am,” Vision answered. “1 hour and 27 minutes until sunrise.”
“Listen,” Wanda said, sitting up for the first time since they got in the tent. “I hear birds chirping.”
Vision listened and sure enough, birds were chirping, a sure sign that sunrise was not far behind.
They exited the tent cautiously, both unsure of what may be waiting for them outside of it. But there was nothing. The morning twilight seemed to make it all stop. They broke down the tent without words, scrambling as quickly as they could to put it all away.
Vision took a seat on the hood of his car, a breath of relief coming out in a shaky wave. He patted the open spot next to him and smiled as Wanda slid up next to him.
“Time?”
“7:11am,” Vision replied. “Sunrise is in 3 minutes.”
Wanda nodded as they both sat on the hood of the car and watched the sun come up. Wanda set her head on Vision’s shoulder as they shed the horrors of the night and welcomed dawn.
“We did it,” Wanda said triumphantly. “We survived the night.”
“That we did,” Vision said with a nod.
“Celebratory selfie,” Wanda said, pulling her phone out and opening the camera.
Instead of smiling, Vision decided to do something else. Just as Wanda was getting ready to hit the shutter button, he turned her head with his fingers and kissed her right on the mouth.
The photo came out perfectly natural. It didn’t look forced or posed at all.
“There,” Vision said proudly. “Put that one on Instagram.”
