Hey! So this is not really that serious but it keeps eating me, whenever I read a hogwarts au for mdzs. Why is wwx always in the slytherin???? Like yes he can be called cunning and ambitious but he's also super brave, kind and genius. And I don't think his traits should be completely based on the fact that he was the Yiling Patriach. (Personally I don't see him as neither cunning nor ambitious but anyways). What do you think?

As someone who read and watched the Harry Potter series and has issues with both the morality of the world and what the story has to say about oppression, I have to say that people who believe in slytherin!wwx are probably closer to jkr’s intent for slytherin than anyone who tries to find logic in permanently assigning children to the Brave or Evil Houses at age 11 and telling them that that is their core personality trait.

When your fictional world is built around the idea that the system is inherently good and only a few people need to be replaced to get it to function, any character who challenges the system as wholly corrupt is inherently misguided at best, or evil at worst. Wwx isn’t misguided in his actions, so—

#mdzs asks #mdzs has a much better morality system than hp #and wwx as a character is someone who will challenge a corrupt system #nobody in hp actually does that except maybe hermoine #and she’s mocked every single time she does and none of her solutions come to fruition #hp is about maintaining the system and just putting ‘good’ people in charge #and those ‘good’ people are allowed to do terrible things #as long as it’s for a ‘good cause’ #mind you those terrible things include child abuse and participating in fascism ‘in the name of common good’ #the ‘dark wizards’ in hp are the wen clan and the ‘light wizards’ are the cultivation world post-ssc #they’re all different flavors of terrible with the only difference being public opinion #iwhateveryou2331

#well I can no longer tease Keith for being/looking obliviously in love with his bff #I think I’ve mentioned before that a big part of the reason I’m going to Taiwan this summer #is b/c my best friend from LSE lives there #we met the first week of university and it all just went from there #(rare for both of us b/c we’re introverted) #anyway #after I moved to the US for grad school #and she moved back to Taiwan to work for a bit and figure out what she wanted to do her MA in #we started sending each other care packages #(before this we used to bring each other stuff back from home during breaks ) #((we also meet on zoom every week for a few hours to talk + watch movies)) #they’re pretty good sized boxes with (mostly) food and also books and weird t-shirts/clothes and all of that kind of stuff #we’re quite good at this point at getting stuff the other will like #(I always trawl Trader Joe’s for interesting things I think she’ll enjoy. she got me 5 different flavors of salted plum from an indie #company in Taipei because she knows I love ume) #we always put notes for each other in the boxes too #I send hers to her parents house because it’s easier to have packages shipped to there than in her small flat share in Taipei #and her mom (with her permission) sometimes opens them and takes out something for herself to try #what I didn’t know until today #is that her mom also takes out the notes to put on her desk so they don’t get lost #and she’s been hinting to my friend more and more over the past 2 years that it’s okay if she’s ‘not into boys’ and her parents will support #her no matter who she dates (which is very sweet) #now I’m coming in less than a week #and when my friend was visiting home this weekend she took her aside and told her #that she didn’t have to introduce me as her friend and she could openly say I’m her partner of 2+ years #which (again) would be very sweet #if I were actually her girlfriend #I’m not #and I’m having dinner with her parents at some point in the next few weeks #my life is a bad sitcom

#like ok I can buy a lot of stuff; but they are never on impulse #I typically wait three days before buying something small and inexpensive after seeing it for the first time #that number increases with the amount of money I have to spend #because I MUST determine if I will like and use it before I even think about buying it #to the point where I was actually mulling over which cheap bamboo flute to get at a garage sale one time (there were two; I couldn’t choose) #and my dad was like ‘just get both; they’re only 25 cents a piece’ and I went ‘Oh? I’m allowed to do that… I forgot’ #same with snacks and sweets #I cannot eat a large cookie twice in a day unless the second large cookie is a different flavor than the first #But I can eat as many small cookies as I want in a day; so long as they are in multiples of three #I can only eat one of each thing a day because it’s weird to eat the same ingredient for two meals in a day; unless it’s cooked differently #like scrambled eggs vs egg drop soup; but if I ate pancakes in the morning I won’t eat pancakes for dinner #unless they are leftovers from eating out #I can only comment once per meeting; otherwise it feels ick #anyway I bought a lot of sensory stuff in the past year lol #and I thought about each one before I bought it #I waited four whole months to buy chewelry when I knew I wanted some #but somehow that fail safe gets overridden if it’s a small business and they have something I’ve been looking for #because why wouldn’t I buy from a small business? we love our artisans in this household #especially if the business is owned by a minority group or nonprofit for a good cause

FUCKING DELICIOUS FOOD #they serve these aioli fries. i’m fucking addicted to them #they’re fries with parmesan and three different sauces and this incredibly tender meat (i think it’s pork but i forget) #and you can add shit to ‘em (i go for a fried egg green onions and extra sauce) #and they’re SO savory and just spicy enough to really deepen the flavor and. OUGH fantastic #omg i forgot to mention. this place has a HUGE menu. like fucking HUGE #over 50 items huge. it’s insane #love them <3333
