In terms of Wenclair nicknames, I believe in ‘Enid using Willa’ supremacy and φεγγάρι μου (‘my moon’ in Greek) is especially beloved to me, but I also love little shit Enid who calls Wednesday any day of the week EXCEPT Wednesday (“Hey, Monday!” “What do you think about this Sabbath?” “Oh thank god you’re here Friday”) and it annoys her favorite murder goth to NO END but slowly said murder goth becomes endeared by her roomate’s antics as feelings start to tumble and bloom away. Besides ‘my moon’, I can also see her calling Wednesday ‘silly raven’ in Greek.

Meanwhile, Wednesday has this wholeass evolution from shit like “mutt” to way softer nicknames because Gomezifcation™️ is a powerful thing. She starts to pine and internally call Enid her Alectrona (a greek goddness of the Sun, known for sunrise or ‘waking from slumber’, a perfect combo of how Enid brings light to Wednesday as well as her inner wolf finally waking up), but slowly she starts using it out loud along with “mi sol” (‘my sun’, Spanish), “mon petit chiot” (‘my little pup’, French), and “la mia vita” (‘my life’, Italian). Enid melts everytime without fail and stutters in Greek and honestly? Who could blame her when Wednesday has that passionately lovestruck shine in her eyes as adoration drips from devout lips.

Perhaps to no one's surprise, Kayn isn't very big on birthdays. In mainverse, he doesn't know when his birthday is, so (dependent on the portrayal of other Zeds), any birthday that he's given won't be a big part of his life until someone else makes it so. When he was young and in Noxus, it was easier to mark the passing of time with holidays and seasons than by trying to remember his birthday — for the most part, he was pretty sure he knew how old he was. For the rest, it didn't really matter anyway. All that mattered was that he was still alive and every day got him closer to being able to enlist in the army. After Epool, he hardly thought about birthdays or anniversaries at all unless someone else brought it up.

In his modernverse, Kayn's parents never really celebrated his birthday. Some years they made a halfhearted show about it, but Kayn learned to dread them, as it was just another occasion that was likely to make Kayn's parents and brother angry at him. His anxiety about the 'celebrations' made him seem ungrateful to his family, which in turn only served to make Kayn more anxious. Other years, it was lumped in with Christmas and quickly forgotten. After he moved out, Kayn never celebrated it again. He found no joy in it.

Odyssey is the complete opposite. Everyone in the empire has to celebrate his birthday. Oftentimes, Kayn demands several days to a week of celebrations, regardless of whether a planet is in a state to host such festivities. He has his own celebrations, of course, to the tune of a week-and-a-half-long celebratory rave in honour of his excellent life. Sometimes, he'll drop by a planet to check out their parties, and they better hope they're celebrating hard enough. The emperor hates a lame party.

In h.eartsteel, Kayn doesn't like his birthday. It's too close to Christmas so it was often lumped in with the other holiday, and he hates that the first thing everyone says is "oh, right next to Christmas!" so he lies and says it's Halloween, because at least that's a cool holiday, and there's always some suitably spooky event or party he can go to and soak up the attention that the birthday boy deserves. Because of his bad memories of his birthday growing up (see modern verse), Kayn doesn't share his real birthday with anyone, and if they were to find it out (by looking at his ID or something), he'll be very grumpy about it, and even grumpier if they actually acknowledge it. As with any things about Kayn, he'd really rather people indulge his fantasy than try to acknowledge the "real" him.

Despite suffering from a rather traumatic experience with the actions of his past, Gabriele has always chosen duty over his own feelings. 

It's quite rare, if not impossible, for him - even more as he becomes older - to move himself from his own sense of justice and duty. He will shut down any damaging emotions, and will be able to make heavy and complicated decisions that will, for him, be useful for the mission. 

In the past, Gabriele was an undercover agent. For almost fifteen years, he dined at the same family table as the people he eventually betrayed. He shot men he considered as his own brothers for the success of his mission and his own beliefs. It's unlikely that this man could ever grow suddenly sensitive when he has handled such awful emotions before and still followed the path he had chosen back then.

Even more, it's more than possible and likely that Gabriele will sacrifice someone again, if it means that he can do it for the greater good.

          a little nervous having them over while their mom was out... she was once again another business trip. and nagisa had finished all of his work at school... and byan had been messaging him all throughout gym class. the smaller didn’t feel like going to a pc cafe again and wasting money, so having them over was just the easier deal. thank god his mom wasn’t home though... with the way she openly talks about nagisa to his friends, they... would not get along.

          he’d gone to the local seven-eleven up the road to get snacks and drinks for the two, loaded up the fridge and counter with things for the two to keep them occupied at night. nagisa knew byan wasn’t going to leave anytime soon and was going to keep him up, so he was going to buckle in for a long, long night. making friends... was hard for nagisa and he either had friends that he’s known for a long time and he didn’t hang out with much anymore, friends that he’s known for a long time but don’t treat him well, or just didn’t talk to people enough at all. it was a odd combination for those two to become friends, especially since nagisa was trying to keep the assassination a secret from the other still, to byan he might just be a troubled kid trying to stick up for himself.

          hearing the knock at the door, nagisa jumped up from his seat, going over to answer the door with a smile, looking up at the other. his own hair was let down and not tied up, but his hair ties around his wrist. house rules still were something he would listen to even if.. his mom wasn’t around for the most part.

Why do you prefer the original ending to Pretty In Pink over the rewritten ones? Ringwald and McArthy have apparently not vouched for the original ending from the beginning

My understanding is that Molly Ringwald was one of those who most wanted it be changed. And I think she's completely wrong if so.

I wrote a post about this back when I first saw the film where it was fresh and I could explain why, which unfortunately I can't find, but yeah it was obvious to me watching it that she was not supposed to end up with Blane, that he did not respect her, and the film/her character arc would have been much stronger if she'd gone to prom with Ducky as was originally intended.

I'd have to watch it again to go into it, but I remember it was clearly a theme where she wanted it to be Romeo&Juliet thing, but it wasn't. It wasn't people connecting across a class divide and transcending that, he was an actual snob and she liked an idea of him that didn't exist. It was in fierce contrast to her really genuine connection with Ducky. It was not a 'settling for the Nice Guy' triangle or something where Blane was a foil and equal she's not allowed to have, the original ending was about missing what's in front of you because you're too tied up in trappings and what you're supposed to want. There was a powerful affirmation for her in realising she didn't need approval from assholes. There was commentary on disposable wealth and consumerism versus authentic creativity. Middle school level, but it was there.

Hughes went on to make Some Kind of Wonderful which follows the original outline/themes of Pretty in Pink, just genderswapped, but that movie didn't have the chemistry or strong enough characters to make it very satisfying imo.

#I know it's a classic for a lot of people but Ducky was actually the only special or memorable thing about it tbh #and it was clear to me he was written as her Right Man #where there's a scene with Blane where the original intent was to show he's not a good dude and has a weak character and she sees it #that was only kinda softened when they tried to make the rest of the film match up with the reshot ending #like it just shows #the writing is not building towards vindicating Blane or them ending up together #he's not her match and isn't really what she wants #also I vaguely recall it gives the movie this unpleasant implication that materialism is great #again I'd have to watch it again to go into it with chapter and verse #but the film's intended messages were badly subverted by trying to make Blane into an endgame love interest

            his sight has been tainted is the only thing that had passed through his mind, he wasn’t using his tentacles well enough and he’d failed them, not the other way around. running from the initial fight he was in, the teen had his nails digging through white locks of hair to his scalp. trembling now, he took a knee while growling deep in his chest as the pain was beginning to become unmanageable. to both his knees now, the smaller’s hands pulled at his hair as if it it would rip away the damage settling into his brain matter.

            he wasn’t thinking about how he just ran away from the class fight, or how he ran away from yanagisawa, the only thing that was emitting through him was pain. forehead now to the floor as he was beginning to foam at the mouth, twitching from the pain now shooting through his whole body. vision was getting blurry as he could feel the roots of the tentacles tensing up, and releasing, but tensing up again in the end as he got more and more stressed out.

            not being able to hear footsteps coming up in front of him, tears were starting to form and threaten his waterline with overflowing. a fist pounding the ground trying to muster past it, attempting to get to his feet and stand, to go back to his fight and take what was rightfully his, the win. all he wanted was to win to not be in pain anymore, to—

            pop. a clean disconnect from the root of his tentacles being ripped clean from his scalp as he was just getting back to his knees. vision was still blurry as he tried to get a good look at who was in front of him... it wasn’t yanagisawa, he’d just get taken out with tranquilizers and put back for more experiments. his heart... must have really wanted to be done with those tentacles deep down in order for them to release from him despite him feeling weaker now.
