Desperate Times...Desperate Measures

The way people looked at him changed. It wasn't necessarily the Revolutionary's fault. They'd done their best putting his face together after it was split in half, and needless to say, the hook on his left arm weighed heavy.

18 months it took for him to heal - not physically, mind you, but mentally. His scars might be gnarly, but those were the easy ones to heal. Even the loss of his hand had less of an impact than his defeat itself had on his psyche. No longer did he have the will to become a pirate king the traditional way. If he couldn't force his way to the throne, then it's his wits that would get him there.

Crocodile spent over 2 years with the revo as they patched him up, hoping that he'd join their cause. He'd lied, of course. Helped them when they needed, but only until he got himself privvy to some rather interesting information. Pluto, a legendary weapon, and it's location.

After about 25 months with the Revo, he'd secretly built a great network, made powerful connections with a certain underground joker, and gotten all the information he wanted. He'd even started his own Baroque Works behind the curtains, the Revolutionary Army none the wiser about his ambitions.

And then, after he stole the map leading to where Pluto was hidden, Crocodile thought it was time to leave the Revolutionary. Hidden on some island, now, all he needed was transportation. Sure, he could steal a ship. Use his warlord status to get one, but the last thing he needed right now was attention.

The Warlord was still somewhat fresh from his defeat and was still in the process of building Baroque Works. He couldn't have the marines or some other snot-nosed brat pirate put a wrench in his plans.

As he pondered how he'd go about it over a glass of scotch, his heavy golden hook rested against the bar counter. Equally bright golden eyes scanned the crowd until he met the gaze of a sympathetic brunette who was giving his face scar a lot of attention.

And who is Sir Crocodile if not a charming man? In one quick gesture to the barman, he'd have a glass for her at the ready, the finger of his only hand beckoning her over. He was about to lay down his charm thick. Maybe he couldn't find transportation tonight, but he could escape reality for a little bit.

As she walked toward him, a loud crashing noise stopped her in her track. Boisterous boys entered the bar, and from the corner of his eyes, Crocodile saw a flash of straw yellow and red. Bright white teeth and a laugh that cast light into this seedy dark bar.

The woman's eyes widened like a doe in the headlight, and instantly, Crocodile started to think he should move. Maybe this bar wasn't the right place to be. He didn't know why, but he had a gnawing feeling at the pit of his stomach. His intuition telling him to leave before anything happened.

The brunette in a tight dress stopped walking toward him, instead smiling coyly at the young man. A quiet sigh left Crocodile's lips, the smoke from his cigar rolling thickly off his tongue.

"Hit me again," Crocodile said to the bartender, hoping the little upstart wouldn't recognize him as a warlord and try to introduce himself.

❝eh!?❞ doffy sneers, turning too quickly to meet the offender, reactive to the criticism. his feathers accent his movements, fluttering with him before falling dormant against his frame once more. despite not being physically part of him, something about them looks ruffled. perhaps it's the tense way he holds his broad shoulders, he's rigid. the king is bothered now with a sour mood he can almost taste. being as he can't shake it, he settles on leaning into it.

veins appear to protrude as his brow knots and his disgust is laid bare. he admits, he hadn't recognized the deep timbre that tempts a rise from him. this endless tug of war is always a welcomed distraction— even if the reptile is managing to genuinely vex him. he could always... hehehe, no no. he couldn't, could he? he was supposed to lying low to avoid the navy after both losing and destroying dressrosa. problematic, but agreeable for now. a loss, but not one he couldn't come back from. his fingers twitch at his side, itching itching itching, begging for their summons and release.

❝what's this about? DON'T TELL ME! the warlords being abolished, maybe? if that's the case, i hate to break it to you, CROC— you got that ball rolling after the gum-gum brat took your hide and turned it into a hand bag. don't get me wrong, i'm sure it's STYLISH~❞

as if puppeteered by strings of his own design, doflamingo's expression suddenly shifts and weaves into a feral grin accompanied by a rumbling laughter. his tongue snakes out to glide over his teeth, his knees bend and leave him poised to pounce. the laughter continues, shoulders bobbing to its cadence, feathers rustling in time. why can't crocodile see how comical he is?

❝you should've teamed up with me. LIKE I SAID. then neither of us would be in this mess. TCH— a wanted man with a bounty again. you'd better be ready to put some punks in their place.❞

“Struck a nerve, did I?” Crocodile’s lips stretched into an arrogant grin, his self-satisfied demeanor amplified by how Doflamingo seemed to be ruffled. If there was anything to put a smile on his face, it was putting a damper on the eccentric’s mood. Unfortunately, this was of short duration, as Doflamingo coolly slipped back into character and turned the question on the sandman.

Not that it bothered him any, in fact, he was surprised by the question, more than anything. Why did Doflamingo assume he cared, to begin with?

“The warlords being abolished was a long time coming thing. Even in the confines of Impel Down, I knew it was to come. Murmurs and whispers and rumors make it even to the deepest, most protected place in the world. It shouldn’t surprise you- as for the rubber brat,” Crocodile sighed, thick cigar smoke rolling off his tongue before he took another drag and closed his eyes. It almost looked like he was savoring the moment.

“I don’t see it as a loss anymore.” Crocodile would not elaborate on that, but let’s just say that his defeat at the hands of the stretchy boy did not matter anymore. In fact, it only mattered in the sense that it knocked back some sense into him, and he was going to have fun with this other half of his life. Crocodile realized he’d missed the ship sailing to Raftel and his dreams of becoming king were over, but something else... got to him. This old sense of anarchy, of destroying any figure of authorities, that, he could lean on.

“You should know by now that I don’t team up. I only do what serves my purpose and it just so happens that you do not serve any, for me. Besides, it looks like you could use a team up more than me. I’m wanted, but at least, the only ones after me are white-capped idiots. How’s Kaido, by the way? Still mad your dealings are off?”

Oh now, he was just having fun at Doflamingo’s expense. Marines were very little of a threat when compared to a pissed off emperor with missing merchandise.

O fellow fire tank enthusiast, I have an extremely unique question for you that’s kinda important to me 😅

How do you think Bege would think of Sugar , from Dressrosa?

I’ve got this whole series of events that live in my head rent free where Sugar used her powers to evade capture by the marines (after the whole fiasco with the straw hats) and she ends up meeting Bege when the Fire tanks go to Dressrosa. They kinda know who each other are and have a small temporary alliance to get rid of the kissy-germ people and get away from the marines, and she just ends up leaving with them because she doesn’t have anywhere else to go

What if the Doflamingo family never felt like a real family to her, and on top of that she recently learned that her actual sister (Monet) got killed?? Bege’s papa gut kicks in and he treats her like his own?🥺

Aand she joins the family ?? maybe?? Bege and Sugar are like my top fave one piece characters and this whole mess started from the most random oprp convo on Twitter.. A Bege acc said something about hating absent fathers and a Sugar acc asked, “I don’t have a dad, will you be mine,” and he says YES. It’s so ridiculous but it just stuck in my head and it’s forever canon for me now because they’re my blorbos

Hey there! This is a long reply from me, so its all under the read more.

I can’t speak for what another person rping as a character would do, as my take on the character might be different than theirs. But I can give you what I’d think the character would do! I've always felt that Sugar seemed quite happy with her life in the Donquixote family. She was doted upon by Doflamingo, not only as a member of his 'family', but with her power, she was a vital to him as a piece in his hold on Dressrosa. Despite its dysfunctions, the Donquixote family is a tight knit group - even if one of the only things holding them together in unison was their mutual devotion to their captain. A form of comradery was definitely there. They were a group of misfits who had found something to be united and accepted in. But now, I'll give my opinion on how I’d think Bege would go with your scenario of if Sugar evaded military capture in Dressrosa and was present when the Fire Tank Pirates were around looking for Lola. I actually think Bege would be wary of Sugar. She was a member of the Donquixote pirates - a ruthless group. And she was also hugely responsible for the subjugation of Dressrosa. Her devil fruit is very dangerous. Due to her fruit power, she looks like a 10 yr old child, but she's actually 22. It's a deceptive appearance that could be used ( and which she has used ) quite maliciously, and I think Bege would pick it up as such. ( and respect that lol. ) As for adopting her, I'm...again not sure. Bege's not like Doflamingo, who had a knack for finding abandoned kids with nowhere to go and taking them into his crew. I think not only do those kids remind Doflamingo of himself as a child, but kids have a sort of pure, honest admiration that he craves and that kind of unfiltered affection can't be found anywhere else. Its also very easy to win that admiration over to devotion. Doflamingo adopted both Sugar and Monet into his family when they were very young. Sugar was 9 and Monet was 17. They are both surely devoted to him. Anyway, I think Bege has instinctive dad tendencies to look out for the kids and young adults who he's allied with (now that he's a father and he’s learned some basic human empathy ), but I'm not sure he'd be adopting kids into his crew/mafia family out of the blue. He's not very into doing good deeds without it having any benefit for him. (Unless Chiffon helps him change his mind.) Also to keep in mind that Sugar is mentally a young adult. He wouldn't talk to her like a little kid. He might slip up now and then, but quickly remind himself she’s a full fledged dangerous pirate with a history. Bege’s a very practical thinker. I think he'd be more interested in her skills and power. But I think he'd not be so sure he could trust her. That power of hers is pretty scary, after all.
