2024年3月21日（木）

久しぶりの出勤、今日のミッションは＜授業改善報告書＞の作成と提出だ。毎期、最後の授業時に学生による＜授業アンケート＞を実施、その集計が各教員に届けられ、フォーマットの決まった報告書を作成して提出するのだ。設問については大なり小なりどこの大学でも同じものだろう、形骸化しているとの声ももちろんあるが、総体として私は意味があると思っている。もっとも、一番力を入れた講義科目が当日の出席者が少なかったのでアンケート対象とならなかったのはちと寂しい。自由記述はほとんど無回答だったが、＜ひとつひとつ丁寧に教えていただいた＞との声があったのがせめてもの救いか。

4時45分起床。

昨晩のYさんからのメールに返信。

きのうの＜門戸寄席＞の画像をInstagramにアップ、Threadsに転載。

朝食。

洗濯。

珈琲。

弁当*3。

プラゴミ、45L*1。

ツレアイの職場経由で出勤する。

名神が茨木IC手前で事故、普段より20分程度余計にかかってしまった。

車を置いて、すぐに京都ポルタへ、スタンプラリー第二段に挑戦だ。今回は＜無印良品＞でレトルトカレー、＜大垣書店＞で新書1冊、＜ヴィドフランス　レーヴドパリ＞でパン2個、ポイント10倍デーなのでどこも人でいっぱい。

＜PLAUD　NOTE＞のデータをエクスポートし、OneDriveにフォルダをつくって保管、前期授業開始までにテープ起こしの原稿を完成させねばならない。

息子たちの夕飯、豚バラ肉とキャベツとシメジの酸っぱい煮・目玉焼き・わかめと胡瓜の酢の物・トマト＋リンゴ。

ツレアイも早めに帰宅、後を託してまずはセブンイレブン花屋町店でチケット発券、その後七条第三小学校へ。

今日は七三保健協議会総括会議、区役所からのごみ収集についての変更点の説明、会長からの活動報告、30分強で終わってくくれたのは有り難い。

すぐに帰宅して晩酌開始、テレビでは大谷君の試合が流れている。

途中で録画番組へ、柳家さん喬「妾馬」を楽しむ。

片付け、入浴、体重は200g減。

遅くなったので、日誌は明日書くことにする。

柳家小三治「青菜」を聴きながら、いつしか夢の中へ。

ちょこまかとよく動いていい数字。

CD4046B PLL ICってなんだ

CD4046BEというPLL ICなるものがあるのですが、これがなんなのかよく分からなかったのでドキュメントを読んで調べてみた話です。

CD4046BE（CD4046B）はアナログシンセサイザーで使われるICで、国内では秋月電子で買うことができます。型番からも推測できますが、これは古典的なロジックICらしく、PLL（Phase Lock-Loop）という仕組みを使い、入力した信号の周波数と同じ周波数の矩形波を出力するという機能を備えています。これを利用して、発信機などで生成した矩形波を正確に分周する（たとえば8MHzの水晶発振器から1MHzの矩形波を作る）と行った用途に使われるらしいのですが、なぜこれがシンセサイザーに使われるのかよく分かりませんでした。ということでドキュメントを見てその中身を調べてみました。

TIのサイトから入手できるデータシートにはこのICの簡単な解説や内部構造、ピン配置や電気的特性が記載されています。しかし、回路例などの情報はありません。具体的な使い方に関して読むべき情報はデータシートではなく、同じページから入手できるアプリケーションノート（「CD4046B Phase-Locked Loop (Rev. A)」）でした。

CD4046の内部構造

このICの内部構造、というか基本的な使用例はこんな感じになっています（上記のデータシートより引用）。ここから分かるように、このICには1チップに1つのVCOと2種類の位相コンパレータ、ソースフォロワ回路が組み込まれています。

（注：下記の説明では分かりやすいように電圧についてHigh/Lowという表記を適宜使用します。High＝Vdd、Low＝Vssです。）

まずVCO部について説明すると、下記のようになります。

振幅がVdd-Vssの矩形波を出力する

C1、R1、R2の値でVCOの基本出力周波数が決まるが、VCO IN端子の電圧によって一定の範囲内で出力周波数をそこから増減させることができる

VCOの周波数可変幅はC1、R1、R2値で決定される

VCO IN端子の入力電圧範囲はVss〜Vdd。(Vss＋Vdd)/2の場合の出力周波数を基準周波数f0と呼ぶ

DEMODULATOR OUTはVCC IN入力信号をFETのソースフォロワでバッファしたものが出力される

また、コンパレータ部分はSIGNAL IN端子に入力された信号とCOMPARATOR IN端子に入力された信号を比較し、その結果をPHASE COMP 1 OUT端子およびPHASE COMP 2 OUT端子に出力します。

PHASE COMP 1 OUT端子の出力は単純にSIGNAL INとCOMPARATOR INの電圧をXORで比較したものになり、SIGNAL_INの電圧とCOMPARATOR INの電圧が異なればHigh、そうでない場合はLowを出力します。

いっぽう、PHASE COMP 2 OUT端子の出力は電圧変化の立ち上がりエッジ（電圧がLowからHighに変化するタイミング）に応じて変化するようになっており、次のように少し複雑な挙動になります。

SIGNAL IN電圧の立ち上がりタイミングがCOMPARATOR IN電圧の立ち上がりタイミングより早い場合、SIGNAL IN電圧が立ち上がってからCOMPARATOR IN電圧が立ち上がるまでHighが出力される

COMPARATOR IN電圧の立ち上がりタイミングがSIGNAL IN電圧の立ち上がりタイミングがより早い場合、COMPARATOR IN電圧が立ち上がってからSIGNAL IN電圧が立ち上がるまでLowが出力される

それ以外の場合は(Vdd+Vss)/2が出力される

また、PHASE PULSES端子はPHASE COMP 2 OUT端子がHighもしくはLowの場合Low、そうでない場合Hightが出力されます（これらの挙動はアプリケーションノートのFigure 6.に図解されていますので、そちらを見た方が理解しやすいかと思います）。

PLLの仕組み

さて、なぜこれらの構成要素で入力信号の周波数と同じ矩形波を出力できるのかという話ですが、下記の2点がポイントです。

VCOの出力（VCO OUT）をコンパレータの入力（COMPARATOR IN）に接続する

コンパレータの出力（PHASE COMP 1 OUTもしくはPHASE COMP 2 OUT）を抵抗とコンデンサで構成されるLow Pass Filter経由でVCOの制御電圧として使用する（VCO INに接続する）

PHASE COMP 1 OUTの出力は（遷移中の状態を無視すると）HighもしくはLowのどちらかになります。この信号をLPFに通したもの（＝VCO IN）の電圧は位相がずれたタイミングで上昇し、一致したタイミングで下降する挙動になります。

その結果、SIGNAL INの周波数とCOMPARATOR INの周波数（＝VCO OUTの周波数）のどちらかが大きい場合、VCOの周波数はSIGNAL INの周波数に近づくように変化し、最終的にSIGNAL INの周波数とVCOの出力周波数が一致したところで増加と減少のバランスが取れて安定するようになります。

また、PHASE COMP 2 OUTの出力をLPF経由でVCOの制御電圧として使用した場合も、基本的には同じ動作になります。ただし、PHASE COMP 2 OUTを使用した場合、周波数だけでなく位相も完全に一致しないと安定状態にならない点が異なります（詳しくはアプリケーションノートを見てください）。

シミュレーション

続いてお馴染みのシミュレーションでこの動作を検証してみます。なお、SPICEモデルはhttps://www.electro-tech-online.com/threads/new-spice-model-for-cd4046b-phase-locked-loop-ic.149093/ に投稿されていたものを使ったため、実物の実際の挙動は異なる可能性があります。

まずPHASE COMP 1 OUTを使用した回路です。

ここではSIG_in（SIGNAL IN）として10Hzの矩形波を使用しています。これに対し出力（VCO OUT）をプロットしたものが次のグラフです。

最終的に、位相はずれていますが、入力と出力が同じ周波数になっていることが分かります。

また、PHASE COMP 2 OUTを使った場合、次のようになります。

こちらは安定するまで2秒ほどかかっていますが、最終的に位相まで含めて入力と出力が一致するようになっていることが分かります。

備考と考察

ということで、このICを使用すると入力信号と一致する周波数の矩形波が得られることが分かりました。また、コンパレータを使用しなければ、単なるVCOとしても利用することができます。このIC（と類似のIC）を使用したモジュールとしては、DOEPFERのA-196 PLLがあります。こちらは単純にVCOとして使ったり、矩形波を取り出して他のモジュールを操作する、といったような使い方が想定されているようです。

なお、CD4046Bではこのように位相コンパレータによって位相差を電圧に変換してVCOを制御しているため、安定して出力できる周波数の範囲に制約があります。具体的には、SIGNAL INの周波数がVCO INの入力電圧がVddのときの周波数（fmax）以下、Vssのときの周波数（fmin）以上でないと、周波数を追従させることができず不安定になります。fmax、fminの値はR1、R2、C1、Vddの値で決定されます。データシートには数式ではなくグラフでこれらの関係が記載されているため、必要な周波数に応じてこれらの値を決定する必要があります。

ちなみに、PHASE COMP 1 OUTを使用する場合、C2、R3の値によってはVCOの出力周波数がSIGNAL INの周波数の整数倍の場合でも安定状態になることがあります。これらを踏まえたC1、C2、R1〜R3の値の決定方法についてはアプリケーションノートに記載されています（説明が面倒臭いので投げやり）。

Hikey970について

エンジニアの徳田です。芋を煮るにはいい季節になってきましたね。

我々は普段はActcastの開発のためにRaspberry Piと戯れておりますが、周辺のSoCのチェックも当然行っております。その中でも、Hikey970というボードを紹介します。

Hikey970

Hikey970はSoC Kirin970を用いたDevelopment Boardです。特徴はやはり、ARMのMali GPUが使えること、NPUが搭載されていることでしょうか。

他にもあっさりLinuxが動作するため、通常のaarch64環境のテストなどにも用いることができると思います。

CPUの計算能力も高く、ARM Computing Libraryをビルドしても24分ほどで終わります。ちなみに私のデスクにあるRyzen 7 1700のマシンでは3分ほどです。

遅く見えますがRaspberry Piの上では絶対にやろうとは思わない程度にこのライブラリは大きいので、自前の環境でビルドできてしまうのは驚きでした。

メモリもLPDDR4Xで6GBあります。前職のノートPCと同じ容量です。。。

温度

Hikey970は高性能っぷりにあわせて発熱もすごいです。会社で測定してみましたが、アイドル時で約60度あります。

これは本当にアイドル時で、何回も計算させた後では80度を超えることもあり、机に置くときは危険なので触れない場所に置くようにしてください。

セットアップ

他の96boardのSoCはたくさん落とし穴があったりして苦労するのですが、この子は本当に楽でした。96boardsで共通ですが、電源だけ12V 2Aのものが必要なので気をつけてください。また、プラグは日本ではあまり見かけないEIAJ-3規格に準拠したものですが、変換コネクタがついているため心配しなくて大丈夫です。

イメージも公式ページにリンクがあるものを指示通りに焼けばいいです。Raspberry Piと異なり、USB Type-Cを接続しfastbootコマンドでイメージを焼く所は戸惑うかも知れません。

イメージを焼いて起動してみると、GUIデスクトップが本当にあっさり動きます。感動します。ただし無線LANドライバは機能していないように見えます。

ただしGPUの仮想ファイルである/dev/mali0のパーミッションに気をつけてください。配布されているイメージではrootしかこれに触れないようになっています。

動作確認

まずはclinfoを動かしてみます。

Mali G72が正しく認識されているようですし、周波数も767MHzと正しいです。ローカルメモリもあるし、OpenCLがちゃんと実装できるハードウエアって良いですよね。

基礎性能

まずは単純な計算での計算能力がみたいので、clpeakを動かしてみます。clpeakはOpenCLで書かれた単純なカーネルを実行して、ハードウエアの性能を測るためのツールです。

clpeakは、例えばSingle-precision computeの性能を測るために、FMA命令が連続で出て最後にstoreがある、といった命令列がおそらく出力されるであろうカーネルを実行します。それをみることで、単純に命令が連続で出力された場合の性能を見ることができます。

デスクトップのGPUと比較すると単精度性能が175.93 GFLOPS性能が低いですが、モバイルGPUとしてはかなりよい結果が出ています。ちなみにRaspberry Piに搭載されているVideoCore4の単精度の理論性能は300MHz動作で28.8GFLOPSで、私のスマホのMali T834ではclpeakの単精度性能は20GFLOPSでした。

半精度の場合の性能が面白いですね。half-precisionのhalfの結果とhalf2の結果で倍の性能差が出ています。

彼らのHotChip28の発表スライドで、この次世代のMali GPUは32bitをベースにしたアーキテクチャであることが明らかになっています。 SIMTアーキテクチャなので計算モデル上は通常スカラ値としてすべての値を扱ってよいはずなのですが、fp16は32bitのレジスタ？を2分割して使っているようなことがスライドで暗示されており、おそらくhalfの際にはこの部分のSIMD化がソフトウエア的に動いていないのですが、half2を使って手動でSIMD化すると期待通りの動きをしているのではないかと推測できます。

この結果はこのハードウエアの構成が見えるようで面白ですね。

DLの性能

我々はこれでDeepLearningなどの機械学習アルゴリズムがどの程度の速さで動くのか興味がありますので、ARM ComputeLibraryで性能を測ってみます。

ちなみに、OpenCLでの数値計算カーネルの評価はCLBlastも考えたのですが、ComputeLibraryのほうがsgemmの性能が出ているようなのでこっちで良いやと思いました。

測定のため、このライブラリのUtil.cppに時間計測のコードを挿入しています。測定時点のバージョンはv18.05です。

気をつけることは、TunerのオプションをONにして測定することです。 TunerなしではMali G72はこれよりハードウエア性能が劣るMali G71に負けることがあります。Hikey970のMali G72は12コア767MHz動作しますが、Hikey960のMali G71は8コア1037MHz動作します。このとき並列度を使い切れていないのか、何も考えないで実行するとシングルコアの性能差でG71のほうが性能が高く出るときが当然あります。

チューナーをONにした初回は凄まじい時間がかかっているのがわかります。チューニング結果はcsvファイルで出力されるため、次実行するときにはこの結果をそのまま用いることができます。
