rereading masters of rome 👍 save me lucius cornelius sulla 👍 in retrospect it is kinda funny how it starts ten years before caesar is even born but there’s still this teleological pull towards him being [colleen mccullough voice] rome’s sexiest and specialest little dictator. from like page ONE

What I loved the most about The artful Dodger were the truthfully dickensian scenes. Like, it wouldn't be a Dickens novel if all the characters, good and bad but especially the bad ones, weren't actually interconnected and teaming up to plot master plans that would feel cliché in modern media

rebellious violence-prone younger brothers with weird magic powers who question their humanity and strongly take after their fathers, dutiful and deeply parentified older brothers full of buried resentment who are also unrepentant whores with intense intimacy issues, fathers who replace their wives with their oldest sons (which is totally NOT gonna fuck up their development and attachment styles) and raise them into very dangerous supernatural-related family businesses from an unconscionably young age, idealized perfectly loving mothers who die horribly and later come back somehow as gun-toting badasses who are actually not inclined toward motherhood at all
now i ask you:
Lynches or Winchesters??
