A Little Extra

Gunnar Avery grew up in a small town roughly a million miles away from the big city he dreamed of moving to one day. Gunnar has never had a bad word to say about anyone or anywhere but staying there for the rest of his life? He couldn’t do it. You can love your family and you can love your hometown but Gunnar needed to get out. He wanted to see everything and anything. He wanted the bright lights, new people and if he was lucky, to even meet some of the people he saw on Sophia Vandervort’s Instagram stories (and Sophia too, of course). Or be on one! Gunnar romanticizes most things and falls in love with every pretty smile or sweet nothing that comes his way. He knows that not everyone is going to be genuine but why not offer the benefit of the doubt? When it came to applying to colleges, Gunnar was over the moon and stars to be accepted into Columbia University on a scholarship.

He packed up his three flannel shirts, pulled on the same boots he’d been wearing most of his life and kissed his mama goodbye. Gunnar had always been a people person so making new friends at college wasn’t a problem. A little naive, Gunnar might have gotten his feelings hurt a few times when he first arrived. He knew that he didn’t exactly fit in with the ‘scandalous elite’ (as Gossip Girl would say!) but he wasn’t about to pass up the chance to be invited to the party. Sophia was a lifesaver for him since she was the only person he already knew in the city. They’d been pen-pals for a couple of years before meeting. In a way, it almost felt like Gunnar knew the people Sophia wrote about. Soph couldn’t be with him all the time though. Gunnar quickly learned how to stand on his own two feet and to never trust pretty boys named William Huntzberger. He’s pretty much got the hang of things now. Uh, yeah. Pretty much.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

Is it just the absolute worst that Gunnar read Gossip Girl? He couldn’t help it, okay? Of course he doesn’t agree at all with the mean things GG has said especially about his friends but... You know how sometimes you just can’t look away? Yup. He was in support of the Takedown but Gossip Girl is his guilty pleasure.

Sophia Vandervort - Sophia and Gunnar started out as pen-pals, sharing with each other their thoughts, feelings and a little gossip. They were so excited to meet when Gunnar came to New York for college. They’re just sunshine besties!

Sapphire Vandervort - one of Sophia’s sisters and, y’know, wow. Gunnar could never get too much of a sentence out around Sapphire at first and she was definitely a bad influence.

William Huntzberger - speaking of bad influences... Gunnar met William at a club and could have died on the spot when he invited him over to the VIP section. One thing led to another and, well, they spent the night together. Gunnar was kinda giddy about it but in the morning? William was gone with an unkind note and he’s barely acknowledged his existence since.

Logan Hunter - Logan is one of the coolest people Gunnar has ever met. They’re just so nice and totally gorgeous and well, who isn’t a little in love? They even had a little thing and are still good friends!

Xander McAllister and Tessa Cooper - the two grumpiest people Gunnar has ever met and loved.

A Little Extra

Serena Celia van der Woodsen. The daughter of William and Lily van der Woodsen, sister to Eric, It Girl to NYC. Like most Upper East Siders, Serena’s home life was smoke and mirrors. A mother more focused on whatever man was in her life and a father that cared more about his career than his children, life was turbulent for the eldest van der Woodsen. Her relationship with her parents is hostile to say the least. Having absent parents did have its benefits to her when she was growing up. Ever since Serena was old enough to sneak champagne, she made life one big party. She partied like it was her last day on earth. She indulged way too much, drinking and drugs, other people’s significant others. She lied, she stole, she cheated. Storm Serena swept up everything and left nothing but wreckage behind her. As far as society went, Serena van Der Wooden was the Golden Goose. Dubbed the ‘It Girl’ it’s always been a label that’s been pinned to her whether she liked it or not. Oozing with charisma and a smile that could both start and stop wars, she held the world in her hands and it was up to her if she nurtured it or clenched her fist on it to watch it crumble. It wasn’t unusual for Serena to hold the world a little too tightly at times, it usually coming back to bite her on the ass but lessons remained unlearned.

Serena isn’t proud of the person she used to be, and would be the first to admit that she needed to change. The harsh wake up call she needed was the Shepard Wedding. She’d fallen to many indulgences previously, but falling to the indulgence of Nate Archibald aka her best friends boyfriend at the time, was a new low for her. Like a real Alexander McQueen bumster low-rise jeans low. Nate was a drug worse than any other she’s every tried. After that night, she ran away from her problems to get her head straight and swore to herself that she was making changes in her life. She was going to be an It Girl NYC could be proud of. Since her return, she worked hard to right her wrongs and had even made a go of it with Nate. Three months into their official try at a relationship and he bailed. Bailed on her with no warning. Of all the people that had hurt Serena in her life, this one hurt the most. She figured that this is her karma for what she had done to Blair years ago and she’s trying to take it on the chin, but by god does it sting. No matter how Serena feels internally, she always puts on a brave face and tried to be happy. She gives the time of day to whoever she’s speaking to and makes a point to actually listen and learn about the person. Despite being burned before by people and GG, Serena is still surprisingly trusting of people, albeit naive at times. For a smart girl, her judgement can be clouded by trying to see the best in people but she forgets that not everyone is trying to change for the better.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

The original Gossip Girl takedown came to an end with a party. Blair was roped into it. She had to throw something so irresistibly juicy that GG would have no choice but to show up to get the deets first hand. What was more ‘WTF’ than Blair Waldorf throwing a birthday party for Dan Humphrey? Serena was there of course, to support B and for the chance to get rid of GG once and for all. The return of GG was brought both headache and heartache. As soon as Serena’s eyes had landed on the post to mark the return, her stomach dropped. History was repeating itself, hopefully not in more ways than one.

Connections

Eric van der Woodsen - the younger sibling. No one knows what it’s like to have a mother like theirs expect for each other. Serena and Eric have always been a team especially when dealing with Lily. Serena knows that she’s been selfish when it comes to being there for Eric but she’s trying. Eric’s happiness is all that matters to her.

Blair Waldorf - the best friend. Blair and Serena are a part of each other, you know? They’re a forever thing. Serena loves Blair so much her heart could burst and she hates so much that she ever hurt her. Will always look out for and stand up for B.

Chuck Bass - Chuck’s been one of Serena’s nearest and dearest since the crib like Blair and Nate. They’re each other’s found family. Then after Lily van der Woodsen and Bart Bass got rashly married (ugh), they’re even more family. Recently though, Bart Bass died in a tragic accident. Lily was suddenly a widow and Chuck was suddenly a CEO. It’s been a hell of time.

Nate Archibald - besties from the crib like Blair and Chuck. When they were younger, Serena never really thought too hard about her feelings for Nate. Nate-and-Blair were together and they all loved each other. They were each other’s world. And then things got really messy. She said she didn’t come back to the UES for Nate but a part of her did, maybe. They ended up sneaking around again before the GG takedown, breaking things off when Nate’s dad was arrested. When the smoke finally cleared, they tried again. It’s been good now for almost three months and they even got Blair’s begrudged ‘blessing’. Everything was going good until suddenly, Nate was gone.

Georgina Sparks - Gigi is Serena’s worst best friend. They were inseparable when she was ‘the old Serena’. They would party for weeks on end together, ruin other people’s lives and just be horribly selfish. Georgina loved Serena no matter what though. The worst Serena had ever been was a Serena that Georgina still adored. Things between them have always been complicated and messy. Now, G’s trying to be good too which is good. Serena’s willing to see her try.

Dan Humphrey - Dan came into Serena’s life unexpectedly like a breath of fresh air. Serena had already met Vanessa and Nate seemed to be trying to befriend Dan as well. Their lives were suddenly pulled into each other’s. She thinks he’s a good person and friend. Funny and interesting if more than a little sarcastic. Yeah.

Vanessa Abrams - they met at a party that Vanessa didn’t want to be at. Serena thinks maybe Vanessa hadn’t wanted to like her but S is glad they changed their mind. Thinks they’re very cool, very talented and very pretty.

A Little Extra

Beth always kept herself to herself, preferring to be a fly on the wall and stay firmly out of the drama. She unfortunately had to bear witness to more than a few meltdowns, betrayals and fights between her former classmates and it only solidified her judgements on them. Sure, Beth can be a little harsh and she’s not big on second chances (although, she is trying to be better). For Beth, getting into college and starting to make her own money, was the way out for her. The road to independence even if she’d never truly be free of her mom’s expectations. She’s always been smart, preferring to spend Saturday nights with a good book or bailing on a date to work on an extra credit project. It was all about the college applications, thank you very much. Romance, dating, drama- none of it really appealed to her. Sure, she might like to have someone one day but they were really going to have to be spectacular to live up to her own expectations. Hazel Levesque- her mom- had other ideas though.

It wasn’t enough that Beth was getting the grades or putting in the work, her mom wanted her to care more about her reputation. About what she wore, how much makeup she put on, who she was seen to be on a date with. You can’t win every fight so Beth would go on dates with other rich people who were nothing short of mind numbing. It would be torture for a couple of hours but it would get her mom off her back. And then the cycle would start up again. It could be utterly exhausting, you know? She never really liked anyone she went on a date with either until one very unexpected set up with Frankie Vives. It was like for one night they both just got to be themselves without the pressure and sure, she liked him. Once he dropped the bluster and BS, of course. Now, that was supposed to be the end of it or so Beth thought. The next thing she knew, her mom was raving about the positive attention her baby dating Frankie Vives was giving them and somewhere on the other side of town, Frankie’s agent was doing the same. Before Beth could protest, it was too late. The whole world had decided that Beth and Frankie were the new ‘IT couple’ and there was no getting out of it. At least, not for a while. So much for a drama free life, right?

Beth never even read Gossip Girl when she was at her height of terror and doesn’t intend to start now. GG surely has nothing on her because guess what? Beth minds her own business!

Oliver Andrews was that fella walking down the hallways in slow motion, swinging a leather jacket over his shoulder, shooting a wink your way if you were lucky. Popular, confident and just charming enough to get away with it, Oliver was the forbidden fruit that you couldn’t help but take a bite of. He was up front about his feelings. Well, he was up front about not wanting to have feelings. A casual fling is one thing but the thought of having someone depend on him? Rely on him? Maybe even love him? It was terrifying. Oliver figured he’d just BS his way through life, eventually burn the family business to the ground if his father made him take it over and just coast right on through life. Most of the time he felt like he was just there, you know? Going through the motions, hoping something might actually interest him. Oliver was always looking for something, he just wasn’t looking very hard. Trouble eventually turned up in the form of Jessica Knightly. Jess was the first person that Oliver ever had real, terrifying, feelings for.

She was his girlfriend and she loved him. Like, really, truly loved him. With Jess came an invitation to her tight knit friend group and a real sense of belonging. Things were good for a while, you know? But Oliver didn’t become any less afraid of commitment or being a disappointment. In fact, he’d been so afraid of screwing things up, of Jess really being something real, that he put the ultimate nail in their coffin. Isobel Prescott was hell on high heels and when push came to shove, he couldn’t walk away from hooking up with her. That’s when things started to spiral from bad to worse. Oliver went through the motions after Jess broke up with him out of the blue, only finding out that she knew about his night with Isobel after. He was proud and angry. Ashamed and apologetic. He never really got the chance to tell Jess how sorry he was for hurting her and after everything, he’s not sure what it would mean now. Oliver tried his best to move on from it all, once again deciding he was better off alone. Better off not caring.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

Oliver was not a part of the Original Takedown but GG does have something on him. As was expected, Mr Andrews has started to groom him to take over the family business. Oliver’s been deliberately sabotaging his father’s business deals by just not caring and being rude and reckless with clients. Oliver’s secretly hoping his dad will fire him and he’ll be free of that particular expectation.

Caisson Andrews - the little bro! Oli and Caisson are a team. They have each other’s backs and will always bail each other out. They promise not to judge each other’s worst mistakes (although may poke fun at them) and keep each other sane at family events.

Jessica Knightly - the ex. Jess was his first serious relationship and he ruined it. Still thinks about her.

Isobel Prescott - Isobel was Jess’ best friend. And then one night, at one birthday party, Isobel was the one first kiss he regretted. If you were searching for trouble with a capital ‘T’ then you’ll be quick to find it in Ruby Reyes. Boredom really is a teenage girl’s worst enemy and whenever it starter to creep up on this gal, she’d send it swiftly away. Ruby’s version of ‘fun’ is not for the faint of heart and anyone who isn’t ready to be pushed to their absolute limits, is partying with the Ruby. Thankfully, Ruby makes up for her wild and occasionally vindictive actions with her raw talent and ruthless edge. While in her devoted mother’s eyes, butter wouldn’t melt in her daughter’s mouth, most people are privy to her tendency to want to watch things burn. A Little Extra

Sapphire Vandervort used to be the definition of ‘insider’. She was at every party, gossiped about by all the right people and spent nights on end dancing and laughing at the top of her lungs. She always felt distant from her own life, filling herself up with whatever she could find whenever she could. It could be tough to feel grounded. Sapphire was always confident, brash and easily the center of attention. A shameless flirt, she had a knack for making other people feel special for a night or two but she’d never commit. She’s always been a runner. Of course that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love. Sapphire can be so full of love she doesn’t know what to do with it which, as it turned out, could be a problem. Now, the person who Sapphire loved more than anyone used to be her dad. Even when he left them for the mistress, she loved him. Furiously but all the same.

There was a time she thought she could kick and scream enough that he’d come back. He had to come back, right? Then the wedding invitations were sent out. That was probably when things really started to spiral. The spot of person she loved most rightfully went to her baby sister Sophia and the spot of person she fought with most? Well, that went to her older sister Scarlett. Their father hurt them all, terribly and for the most part Sapphire couldn’t get out of her own way. She lashed out, she acted out and made so many, many mistakes. There had been a life raft for her though, two actually which in hindsight, had been another problem. Jake Hunter had been her rock for as long as she could remember. Sapphire loved him so much that she could never do anything about it, you know? He was good, too good for her. In fact, Tyler Van Buren was too good for her too but that just...happened. Snuck up on her without much warning at all. She never wanted to hurt either of them but you can imagine how the story went (spoiler alert: there was no happy ending). Sapphire did manage to keep things together long enough to finish her Sophomore year at Barnard. After that? Well. No one around here has seen her since.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

Sapphire was reluctant to support the Gossip Girl takedown but agreed for the sake of Sophia. Then Gossip Girl demanded that she stop it by throwing a wrench in Sophia and her boyfriend Jesse’s relationship. If not? GG would tell everyone she slept with Jake Hunter while she was supposedly dating Tyler Van Buren. Sapphire almost did it too, make a move on Jesse but she didn’t go through with it. Before her secret was spilled, she told Tyler herself which led to a messy break up. The secrets GG has on her now could be infinite... Hope she wasn’t planning on making amends.

Connections

Sophia and Scarlett Vandervort - her sisters. Sapphire loves them so, so much even if she hasn’t been a very good sister to them. Running away was selfish and Sapphire doesn’t expect to be forgiven. She sends Sophia the occasional message so there’s not too much worry.

Alex and Aaron Vandervort - her cousins. Alex and Sapphire had gotten really, really close since Alex’s pregnancy. Sapphire had been there for her almost from the start. Formerly they barely spoke.

Layla Vandervort - her cousin. They are the worst influences one each other! Whenever they get together there’s absolute chaos and disaster.

Camille Hunter - Camille is her best friend. They were each other’s person. Total soulmates. Between Sapphire leaving and breaking Camille’s brother’s heart... Her heart hurts just thinking about her.

Jake Hunter - her most special friend. Sapphire loves Jake so much and she always knew that he was in love with her. She never meant to hurt him but she did.

Who Is Logan?

Why, if it isn’t the myth and the legend! Logan Hunter is a name that has passed the lips of almost every Upper East Sider worth partying with. Even me- especially me, even. You pride yourself on being full of love, light and inspirational advice. Your heart of gold has gotten you hurt more than a few times, hasn’t it? That and your big mouth. I mean, really, you should learn to keep things to yourself... An aspiring beam of light in too-tight faux leather pants and an array of shirts, shoes and hats that would make anyone green with envy; who doesn’t love Logan Hunter? I’m not sure you could stand it if someone didn’t love you. The eldest of the Hunter troupe, you do your best to look out for your siblings but they’re more likely to look after you. Still leaping head first into every little thing, it’s safe to say that you haven’t learned one little thing while I’ve been away. Oh well. I can’t wait to start spilling some secrets, if you don’t beat me to it.

A Little Extra

Logan Hunter has always been the one who’s at every single party, invited or not, and always makes it fun. That’s their gift. If they’re not spurting out some vaguely philosophical sounding bullshit and calling it advice, then they’re offering you a neck massage with their certified ‘magic hands’. They’re a giver like that. Unlike most on the Upper East Side, Logan doesn’t do backstabbing or cold shoulders. They absolutely can’t stand conflict, or seeing their loved ones hurting and will always do everything possible to make it better. Logan would heal the world with a hug if they could. You can imagine how much pain they were in then when their best friends in the world- Isobel, Jess and Ceren- broke up. The frantic glue trying to hold them all together, Logan ended up making things worse in more ways than one.

After a ski accident put them in the hospital, they seriously started to think and re-think on a lot of things. Usually philosophical to begin with, you can only imagine the places their mind went. The biggest realization Logan landed on though was this: they were utterly, completely, entirely in love with Isobel Prescott. Trouble? She’d broken their heart, lied to their face and they had always been closer than that. They should have been... Fast forward and there’s a very dramatic rain scene where Isobel professes her apologies (even more scandalous than her love, truth be told) and well, had Logan ever been able to stay mad at her? It was like with the disappearance of Gossip Girl came some semblance of peace. Things started to settle down for Logan. They had their friends, their soulmate, a very cool new job as a freelance writer (lifestyle blogger, advice giver, vibe expert) and for the first time, it felt as if everything could be good again. Bridges rebuilt, sun shining and their found family right by their side yet again. Logan Hunter lives in bliss. For now.
