The thing about the Iliad is all the men are undeniably gentle. They’re warriors and they’re killers and yes, the blood doesn’t phase them, But they’re also gentle. It’s why we see Hector playing with his son, Achilles crying with Priam, Odysseus being referred to not as the son of Laertes but as the father of Telemachus. Homer wants us to know that these boys were not warriors from birth, they were thrust into it unwillingly and though they’re good at it and they want the glory, they’re people at the end of the day and they love more then they hate. Hector and was it Menelaus? Book 5? exchange gifts! Diomedes and glaucus exchange armor! These men are gentle and they do not want to be fighting and they are good at it but they do not love battle, that’s not why they’re heroes. They’re heroes because they are all fighting for someone at the end of it, not something. Because at the end of the day, it’s about the people they love because they are not warriors at heart. The war is about Helen and it’s about glory, but it’s also about Penelope and Andromache and Priam and peleus and all the families of the warriors. Which is why the Iliad has survived this long.

like i’m sorry but I need some of you to think for a second. this is a man whose jet wash indirectly also led to the accident that resulted in goose’s death and probably carried that guilt for half his life too. this is also the man who was there to watch mav and carole grieve for the brother/husband they lost for YEARS. not to mention he was close to goose as well since they were both at the academy. like he would have wanted to protect bradley just as much as mav did when he made the decision to pull the papers. it’s a dumb moment for both of them but again. 100% they would have both thought they were doing the right thing for bradley.

idea below

this was based on an idea discussed in the discord about the reunion between malachi and laurance after the whole 15 year irene dimension debacle, but for those unaware, myself and some others have a hc that being in the irene dimension was physically painful for laurance, as a shadow knight. like very.

i drew him in his sk form, which was kinda just a whim, but maybe it could be explained by saying that he involuntarily turned due to the stress that the dimension inflicted on his body, although him being in his form gave me ANOTHER idea, so you can pick whichever you want to believe.

the other idea: rather than this being the reunion from the return from the irene dimension, maybe it’s from laurance’s return from his silly little 3 year nether side quest (AUGH😞), which would imply that he just hadn’t transformed back yet if he’d just then returned.

also, if that were the case, of course malachi would be glad to see him, but i think he’d also be fucking pissed. and confused. but also understanding because he’s malachi. but yes lots of father/mentor-son feelings. anyways.

I feel like what hurts me most about Sparrow being all “I’m not proud of you” isn’t that he said it, cause I could already kinda guess that from the first scene.

It’s just that normal doesn’t seem to have had any inclination of it prior. Like, to him that’s just his dad being his dad. Not his dad trying to nudge him into being more normal.

And that’s exactly why Normal believes his dad hates him (at least in my mind). Cause as humans we are built to remember the bad as a way of survival, and normal probably can only think about the times he’s seen his dad cringe and how he’s so stupid for just thinking his dad was worried (even if he was worried and not in fact cringing.) like every memory gets corrupted with this new realization. When Teeny won the mascot contest was your dad actually smiling at how happy you were or was he just avoiding a scene, Did he actually enjoy watching those anime movies with you and hero when you were little or are you misremembering, was your uncle trying to warn you that you shouldn’t trust when your dad says he loves you, and so on and so on.
