Reading the secret history is bringing back all sorts of memories from saturnalia. We were assigning everyone a classic based name that they had to guess and so obviously I make my Greek prof Socrates and his child plato. He knows his child is plato. He knows I like to mess with him. He comes up to me halfway through the party and says “it took me embarrassingly long to figure out who I was. I should have figured it out when you started sending people up to laugh at me.”

I’m not sure how these kids in the secret history can get drunk so often and still finish their Greek, especially when he’s assigning them shit like Pliny along with their prosecomp stuff. That’s the most unrealistic thing about this book to me- that and the fact that they have weekends to hang out together. Am I to believe they do Latin, greek translation, and greek prosecomp? It says he assigned them an two page essay in Ancient Greek which is insane to me that he’s not assigning homework based on lines.
