The Inhuman Concept of a Verb
*read on ao3 for tags and world building notes! Happy Halloween everyone!*
"Whatever he is, he's not a plant," was what Melli said to the Diamond clan leader, who was polishing his eyes. "He's not a gem either like you."
Adaman popped the sphere back into his face. "Melli, you can gossip about the new warden to the others, y'know. Besides, he could just be a human. Simple as that."
Warden Ingo was new to Hisui, falling from the sky and landing a little ways from the Pearl Clan. Miraculously he survived, yet curiously, he was completely unscathed from his fall, not a scratch or bruise blooming his skin. Melli had found him whilst wandering but he left him high and dry for one reason.
"But his eyes. They weren't right. Staring into them wanted to make me… I couldn't breathe." Worse was his smile. That damned smile. The corners didn't turn up but he knew. He knew that whatever that thing was, it was smiling.
Adaman brushed him off. "That's because you were in the Icelands. There's barely any air there. I'm just surprised that oyster lady can keep all her wardens from perishing from how cold it is."
— — —
Calaba knew this man wasn't human, unlike most of the Pearl Clan. Her brain cursed at the Noble for bringing him in, and then she cursed at herself for cursing a noble. When she had to check the man over for injuries, her old, decaying hands trailing over his ribs, a man she thought to be unconscious, a hot but not sweating hand clamped down on them, her flinching at the temperature. A smile that was not a smile bore his visage, his eyes dimly looking around before he sat up.
"Where am I?" he asked, his voice not sounding low, but the sheer volume of it making her answer immediately.
"You are in the Pearl Clan's Medical tent, sir. Our noble Lady Sneasler has blessed you with rescue and brought you here." Calaba pulled back, trying to pry her wrists from the man's hand. "It seems you fell from the sky."
"Fell?" The man laughed, freeing her appendages. "That must be the first time I've ever fallen!"
The laugh, a cacophony of loud, high pitched squawks and coughs, not sounding low and guttural. It nearly deafened her with how loud it was.
The man stopped. "Then who are you?"
"Calaba."
"Calaba?" The man repeated, almost in disbelief, venturing closer to her face. There she gazed into those oh so horrid eyes. She, a calabash gourd, knew that whatever hid behind those eyes, eyes that pointed up, eyes that made her choke, it was far beyond her capabilities a plant like her could go against. She was old and weary, mostly from her negligence husbanding her plants, but eyes like those would well outlive even her lifespan.
The man recoiled softly. "What a wonderous name."
There was a pause and Calaba got the feeling that he knew.
"My name is Ingo," the man supplied, his eyes darting downward, trying to choose his words. "It seems I've come a long ways from my home station. I do not remember how I got here. That Pokémon, Lady Sneasler you said? Well, she must be nice. Could I see her?"
Before she could answer, Ingo was already sitting up, strolling out of the tent and pulling his shirt down.
But…
She let him do as he pleased. No amount of checking, poking, and prodding would erase the fact that he was perfectly fine. He looked human. He breathed, had blood, and his hair did not smell of flowers or fruits. But he did not feel human.
— — —
Cyllene didn't know what to do when she saw him. Neither did Arezu. Cyllene was at least nice enough to give the man what he wanted, a trivial thing really. No matter. What goes up, must come down. What spins the earth, and what spins the sun, will spin forever more. The moon and Mars, what would they do without that?
Though…
What would up do without down?
— — —
Ingo, to Zisu, was cool in a lot of ways. He could always climb up to the highest of trees and grab what he was aiming for. Sure, he would need help getting down, but it was cool nonetheless.
In battle, he was tough, always commanding his Pokémon with vigor and intellect, a style that matched well with an experienced battler. It was exciting and finally fun to fight someone at the same level. Well, maybe a bit higher than her, but she wouldn't admit that.
So when she asked him to put his all into a battle, she was blindsided by how fast she was defeated, even his Gliscor was surprised. Though the look on that Pokémon was more of terror, than she'd like to admit.
— — —
Gaeric was glad he wasn't the only strong man in the Pearl Clan. The new warden's physique didn't show it, but boy was he strong! Rocks were like berries to him, logs like strands of hair! It was almost a bit scary how light everything was to Ingo, the way he would just grab things and not notice the weight. Ingo once said that Gaeric was like holding a couple grapes to him.
Lord Avalugg thought the same. The guy lifted him like a plate to grab a stray pokeball he dropped, and thought it none the wiser when he walked off.
— — —
Palina was no good for her Lord. That she knew. She knew the same for Lady Sneasler, and her warden's Pokémon.
They were delightful, cheery Pokémon that followed every instruction to the T. They were swift and efficient, really useful might she add. But it all seemed off. Like they knew something no one else knew. Like something lurked beneath the shell that looked like a man, much like many of her comrades. She was a person made of far too many guarana plants, clustered together into a joke of a warden. Some, like Kamado, were forest children, the cluster of plants enough to spark life. And their two resident celestial beings were there from the start, brought on years before the idea of a plant was even beginning to form. But whatever Warden Ingo was, he was no joke.
Lady Snealser seemed more concerned with standing a little ways off of the man's side, slightly behind him, though it seemed he was looming over her instead. His Pokémon were fidgety and tense, but not in a hostile sense. They were tense in a way the entire region would be to outsiders, fearful, judgy, scared.
"They are not mine to keep," he once said to her, Palina's face flat with contempt. "I can't keep them, no matter how much they look at me like that.."
She hummed as a reply to the man passing her by without another word.
Whatever lurked under that skin, it was no good.
— — —
"Please plant many yacóns when you move to Unova," the new warden said to Lian.
"Why?" he replied.
"You'll get a child, much like how your father planted too many artichokes to get you."
Lian wasn't quite sure how he knew that.
— — —
Rei and Akari clung to the warden and the merchant. The two were just like them! With Volo, his eyes shined of wishing stars. With Ingo, his eyes were of something so important to the world, much like the children, that looking into them was like doing said thing! The children, of course, had their eyes shine of light, the rising sun, the flames of lanterns. Even when Akari burned in ash, she still dissipated into light, the ashes simply being from firewood.
She'll be back. She was too important to die. She was too intangible to.
Though Rei worried for Ingo. With how Ingo was, Rei was certain the man could feel the ashes burn into the sky, the screams echoing through the air, particles pushing to make way for the light's demise.
Oh well.
Many plants are perennial, but all that lives must fall at some point, unlike mere concepts like him. Ingo's brother must be laughing right now.
— — —
There was nothing Kamado could do when that thing uprooted him from the ground. A tree grows up, the roots grow down. They're supposed to live for ages, he thought, and snap to his fingers made him forget that.
— — —
Irida had no doubts when hiring Ingo as Lady Sneasler's warden. After all, the noble was the one who brought him in, saved him from the desolate cold. Or that's what she would like to think.
Ingo was floaty, in a sense. Everything seemed to get 10 times lighter while he was around. She knew he wasn't a gem like her, or a plant like Palina or Gaeric, or even Cogita, the furthest thing from either. Well, maybe he was sorta like Cogita, but there was something so off about him that made her reconsider.
Her reconsidering came at full speed when Ingo brought the Pearl Clan to their knees. They can't breathe, she thought, the air hot but not humid. Her wardens are standing stock, avoiding the man's gaze as he trekked forth.
The settlement itself floated in pieces, torn apart in the air whilst wind bellowed through her unchanging hull. The ground fragmented and rose along with it, merely hanging in the air like puppets on strings, all while what she thought was her warden had stared her strain in the eyes with glowing hatred.
"Let's see. Guarana, weasel snout, calabash gourds, and Jerusalem artichokes. What an interesting set of wardens, Miss Kai. The Diamond Clan have camellias, rice, silvergrass, and wasabi, with Mars for flavor."
She was trying to ignore all the pleas from her human clan members, the lungs breathing out but never in. They're choking, she thought.
Ingo was talking again. "How have you gotten so many humid plants to thrive in such a place I wonder? A pearl like you certainly can't keep them warm."
It's you, she thought in her mind. It's because of you.
She was not wrong in that regard. Ingo was always hot. No matter the time of day or season, he was always warm. When he joined, the Icelands just became a little more bearable, despite the fact that he kept his own company up on the mountain. Actually, whenever she visited, it was always usually warm. How come?
"You ain't human," Lian sneered.
"So? You aren't one either. Yet you let yourself bend to these nobles and humans." Ingo shrugged, the noble Pokémon who had come to try and save the settlement flinching. "But I suppose that's because you are plants. You must bend to them otherwise they will devour you. You are below humans in that regard. You are below Pokémon. What a shame. Even to you, Miss Kai."
Her wardens back up, trying to step over the humans that have long since passed out from suffocation, breaths short and quick.
"A gem like you is below them, all because they want to make jewelry out of you and Kongoseki. Oh, a diamond like him is of such good quality. No wonder he fears such a thing. Such a shame for your grandparents, taken to the moon to be Miss Shimaboshi's jewelry. She's awfully pretty, no?"
"And what about you then?" she barked. "Are you below them like us? Are you so far below us that we cannot even acknowledge your existence? You dare bring us down when we have brought ourselves far above them with our role? Who are you to say that mere plants and gems cannot be above humans!? You're not one either! You admitted it! So what are you!? Do you even remember it!?"
Her face cracked in layers, enamel from class over her skeleton that was not hers. What a joke she was to all pearls to give in like that, to let herself be so violently and unabashedly honest with her inhumanity. She would've rather been jewelry than face the rest of the like that. But that warden–
There was a moment of silence before a not smile cracked onto Ingo's face.
"Me? Below you? Miss Kai, please, know your concepts before you know your plants. You are a pearl, Kamado is a tree, Rei is light, and I am the concept of up." Ingo crossed his arms. "Though you must be mistaken with what I remember. I said I don't remember how I got here, not where I came from. Big difference."
"Y-you…" Oh, no wonder he was so nonchalant about it. He already knew where he was from and he had said before he wanted to go home. Then why..? "Why did you take the job?"
"I thought it would be fun of course. Letting fate run its course as it should, letting stuff happen because it was meant to. If my tracks are going to run long past you all to wait for my brother, I might as well have fun while doing it." He lolled his head to the side. "Your tracks are heading towards destruction though; that is an inevitability I cannot raise to new heights. Your prosperity, I can't control myself without my brother around after all."
He stepped a few points closer, the air burning into cold. "Miss Kai, I do say, I'm not one to judge, but a friend of mine asked me to. And dear, you have failed spectacularly, as did that commander, captain, and rival of yours. Your engines fail without a care whatsoever."
She saw them now, what everyone had been seeing but couldn't quite place. The inherent wrongness that came when gazing into his eyes, the inhuman quality of it. A little black triangle pointing up in place of where his irises were. He was the concept of up. Moving up, metaphorical up, life's ups to its downs, the very verb itself taking up the entirety of his being. Anything and everyone had used the verb at some point, that was why he could do the things he did. The clan's prosperity, her happiness even, it all led back to him, who had manipulated their fates, raising them to heights beyond her understanding, all to this very point. A mere pearl like her had done such a simple thing. To go up. To rise. As did Pokémon, humans, things, and plants! If everything used it, then where would they be without it?
"You…" She stumbled back as he marched forth. "You were never Lady Sneasler's warden were you?"
The concept laughed. "She knew far too well that I was above her."
— — —
Emmet was good friends with Volo, though when the man sent his brother back in time, that's where he drew the line.
The concept of wishing laughed at him. "Don't worry, he'll be back. He just needed to do something for me. You guys are immoral and regenerate anyway, so you don't have to worry about him dying."
He pouted. "Still, I miss him. It's been a year. Boo. How are Dawn and Lucas, by the way?"
"They're fine. Dawn's still a bit tense around fire but she's doing great. Oh, and Cogita told me to give you these cookies while I visited." Volo pulled a tin out of his bag and handed it to the conductor.
"Really? Thank you. She makes the best cookies. Yup!" Emmet set the tin aside and turned back to his friend. "How's little Cynthia doing? I'm not even sure how you're handling all that nandina."
"Oh, she's doing fine! All that heavenly bamboo was expensive but she popped out of it just fine! I got jealous of Cyllene growing Cyrus out of bishop wood so yeah. Cogita really loves her!" Volo beamed.
"Ah, Volo, you're here once more!" A loud voice rang past the duo's ears.
"Ingo!" In a flash, Emmet sprang from his seat and tackled his brother, Ibgo himself catching him and spinning him round. He set him down and Emmet recoiled a bit. "Blech. Brother, you stink, and you look like Thomas and friends ran you over."
"They do not have showers in Hisui."
"Hisui?" Emmet cooked his head. "Whatever. They have baths though. You always take those. Take lessons from Elesa."
Ingo mockingly scoffed. "Elesa takes so many baths because she is a tea. She'd dry up if she didn't. Honestly, it's still weird she lets us drink the water."
Volo jumped in. "People can be a tea?"
"Volo! Apologies for ignoring you! It's been a while." Ingo piped up, holding his brother's shoulders.
"Mm, yup. We accidentally showed her what the face of up and down looked like and she turned into a tea. Chamomile. Do not show what the concept of wishing is to any human," Emmet replied.
"Huh." Volo shrugged and turned to Ingo. "Oh well, did you do what I asked you to?"
"Oh of course I did! You were very nice in helping me. They were all so awful but Miss Akari was such a dear!" Ingo shoved his hands into his pockets. "Here."
In his palm were a few things: a pearl colored blue but iridescent, a Pentagon's diamond that was clear with a blue luster, a fragment of moonstone crumbling to dust, and a fragment of Rowan wood splintering.
"They put up quite a fight I must say."
"In battle?" His brother asked. "Oh, if only I was there. I would make them drop to their knees and elbows. Yup! All would bow to us, no difficulty!"
"No, but of course, such things are below me, as they are to you Emmet." Ingo clicked his tongue then turned the contents into Volo's hand. "It was quite bothersome, really."
"Of course brother."
— — —
Cogita smiled at the newcomer. A verb like him could do much more than just think.

Indulge me as I muse about a potential scenario for the PokeRus AU
Jubilife Village wakes up one morning to a bunch of Pearl Clan members at the gates. Irida had sent them away for reasons unclear. Cyllene sends Dawn to check it out, Adaman and Rei tag along (Adaman is concerned but hides it by being angry).
When they reach the Pearl Settlement, its deserted. Some tents and buildings are smashed. Adaman and Rei go looking for Irida, and Dawn goes to look for Ingo. His tent is smashed too, overturned furniture and his pokeballs hidden away in a cabinet, which Dawn takes.
This is when Ingo bursts in. He’s clearly feral (telltale eyes glowing red, etc) and he’s out for blood. Dawn flees after calling out to him doesn’t work, with Ingo hot on her tail. Adaman and Rei soon join her, being chased by the rest of the Pearl Clan Wardens with Irida leading the charge.
This is how they learn the Pearl Clan Leader and Wardens have lost their humanity - by being hunted by them.

Legends arceus Adaman x reader
this is my first fic ever so if it’s dogshit don’t slice my kneecaps 😅 I wanted the wardens to interact a bit more and have some sort of a friendly rivalry so yea. Reader is kind of a tsun in this. Also the fight with Adaman is based on a true experience in-game lmao. enjoy!
You awoke at whatever ungodly hour it was to the sound of loud banging against the shoji door.
“Yoohoooo! Y/n!! Are you up yet? It’s me Arezu! I brought Mai and Sabi too!”
You abruptly slid the door open to see all 3 girls smiling brightly at your disheveled state. Hair tucked in a low bun as well as your night gown swaying back and forth.
“…Do you three have any idea what time it is? I just got ready for bed too… whatever, come on in since it’s obviously apparent I’m not sleeping any time soon.” You groaned.
“Aww don’t be like that y/n! My clairvoyance tells me your either going to jump for joy, or drag your heels at our news we’ve come to share teehee!” Sabi exclaimed.
“Yes, yes..we’ve come to tell you that tomorrow both clans will be holding a joint meeting to discuss relations and other boring clan politics. We thought’d it be interesting for you to come since you get to see you know who~” Mai teased.
Really? This again? Now, you were pretty much neck deep in denial that you had a microscopic sized crush on the diamond clan leader, but it was as clear as day to your 3 warden friends. They would never stop teasing you about it. Arezu always gushing on how cute a couple you’d be, Mai teasing you about dating her little brother would be a breath of fresh air, and Sabi claiming that her clairvoyance told her that you and him would play endlessly with her.
“Guys I appreciate it, but I do NOT care about that foolish, impatient, time-obsessed, bafoon! I mean, what’s with all the hot and cold behavior you’ve witnessed him doing to me huh? One minute, he talks down to me, saying how incompetent us galaxy folk are, and the next minute he gets all flirty! I really don’t understand what he’s trying to do. I won’t let him make a fool of me tomorrow that’s for sure.”
“You don’t see it Y/n? Really? Because it sounds like your in Lo-“
“R-REZU! DON’T YOU DARE FINISH THAT SENTENCE!” you shouted after putting a hand to cover her mouth.
“Even if he did, there’s no way I’d fall for someone so…so annoying! Anyway, I promised myself I’d never fall in love with someone again, with all the rejection and heartbreak I experienced in my world…”
At this, Mai and Sabi frowned and furrowed their eyebrows before bringing you into a bear hug. Geez, Mai really did have super strength..
“I can assure you that as his older sister, I’m sure Adaman means well, he just like to have fun with you from time to time that’s all. How about this? Tomorrow after the meetings over, we challenge all the boys from each clan to a battle? It’ll get your blood pumping as well as a chance to show your strength in front of Adaman.” Mai proposed.
“And it would give ME the chance to shut Melli the fuck up with all his high and mighty crap. Seriously, I want to punch him in the throat sometimes…” Arezu interjected.
“Heehee…good idea Mai! That Lian boy from the pearl clan is quite adorable, but he’s always so stubborn on shooing me away when I want to play with him! My clairvoyance tells me that he will lose and weep before me tomorrow!”
You were never one to turn down a challenge, so after discussing a myriad of battle strategies, the four of you decided to launch the grand plan after the clan meeting tomorrow. Since it was already late, you let the girls sleep in your home, rolling out the extra futons for them to sleep in.
Operation Eat Our Dust will go into full effect tomorrow!
You were starting to regret coming to this meeting.
Usually, whenever you were invited to clan meetings as a guest, you’d be earnestly paying attention to who was speaking, but today, you were more focused on trying your damndest not to smack Adaman’s smug dumb face into next week. If he keeps staring at you like that…
“Um…is there something on my face? What are you staring at me like that for?”
“Oh nothing y/n, just thinking about how adorable you are when your worked up- OW! What’d you pinch me for?!”
“That was for wasting your time on me. Pay attention to what mistress Calaba is saying bozo!”
“I could never waste my time on you y/n~”
“……..whatever.”
*Some time later*
“Ugh, I’m so glad the meeting is finally over, my legs were starting to fall asleep!” Arezu stretched out while watching the rest of the clan members slowly trickle out of the room, save for some of the wardens.
“Mhm! My clairvoyance tells me that listening to Smelli yap on anymore about his precious lord Electrode will make my hair fall out! …Or did it?” Sabi questioned.
“Why, the NERVE of you Sabi! Atleast I don’t have to take care of some flying over sized chicken! ᴬˡˢᵒ, ᴵ ᵈᵒ ⁿᵒᵗ ˢᵐᵉˡˡ…” Melli mumbled.
“You sure about that? Because I think your Skuntank’s horrid stench is starting to stick on you for good” Arezu shot back.
Mai quickly stepped in between the two to prevent them from clawing at each other like two wet purugly’s. “Anyways, it’s been awhile since we’ve all sparred together yes? Then how about we have ourselves a little showdown, the girls against the boys hm? Feel free to decline, unless of course, your skill in battle have declined.” Mai held a mischievous glint in her eyes you’d never seen before.
“Oh yes, what Mai said! You wouldn’t mind playing with us for a while right? My clairvoyance tells me that whether you all accept our challenge or not, you bozos will look like utter fools regardless! Teehee!”
“Oh your SO on! You girls need to be a taught a lesson on picking fights you can’t win.” Adaman jumped to his feet while clutching the pokeball that had his dear Leafeon inside. “I’m assuming Palina and Irida will be joining too yes?” Glancing to the two ladies sitting by the corner.
“Your damn right we are! It’ll give me and Lina the chance for our training to pay off!” Irida said while holding Palina’s hand.
“Irida, how many times have I told you to cut it out with that absurd nickname in public? I swear it’s one ear and out the other with you…” Palina said while slightly glaring at the blonde to her left, before softening her gaze at Iscan. “Iscan dear, will you be joining us to spar as well? I’m sure my lord Arcanine would love to pummel- I-I mean, have a family friendly spar with your lord Basculegion yes? You wouldn’t dream of refusing my request would you dear?”
“Th-that’s, well…Palina I don’t think-“ He started, before sweating bullets at the darkened expression on her face despite her smiling. “Of course not Palina dear, it’s not a problem at all! Hehe…ugh” Iscan said defeatedly. Indeed. Palina could be quite scary sometimes…
“Hmph. It hardly needs to be said, but I reckon my mightily awesome Kleavor would wipe the floor with all of you. Especially your Braviary Sabi, I’m sure you don’t need your ‘clairvoyance’ to tell you that?” Lian said while tilting is head, smirking down smugly at Sabi.
“Why you….” Sabi started before sticking her tongue out at the young man in anger. “Hmph!”
“Alright alright that’s enough.” Calaba cut in before walking to the front of the room. “I’ll leave you little whippersnappers to your on devices, just try not to break anything understood? Or else I’ll have Ursaluna come for all of you in your sleep.”
Everyone visibly shivered at that.
You stepped out unto the field with the girls, getting your respective pokemons ready for battle, out of the corner of your eye you swore you could see Adaman winking at you. Foolish boy, he should be more worried for the battles ahead.
After making sure her Glaceon was healed up and prepared, Irida shuffled over to where you and the other girls were standing.
“Are you all ready to go?” She questioned.
“Mhm! Braviary’s all set to go! My clairvoyance is telling me….we have this in the bag! ….But also may be telling me we should’ve thrown in the towel by now?…I wonder which is right? Teehee!”
“Nonsense Sabi.” Mai stood up from feeding her Munchlax to stand closer to the group. “I’m confident in our skill, we will be just fine.” Mai concluded.
“You bet! We’ve got girl power on our side after all! Right y/n?” Arezu said as she sneaked a glance at you.
You beamed back at her. Giggling a bit before standing up to hug her from behind. You could always count on Rez to lift your spirits.
You then turned to Palina, silently pondering on how her Arcanine would fair against Iscan’s Basculegion. You wondered what kind of strategy she had up her sleeve given the type disadvantage she had.
“I know what your thinking y/n, I’ll be just fine against Iscan. I’m sure he’ll give me a run for my money, although, perhaps he could let me win just this once…” She mumbled quietly.
After some of the excitement died down after the meeting, both sides agreed that the loser would have to give the victor a smooch….or something like that. Your not sure if Arezu came up with that idea or Adaman himself…
Mark my words…your going down today Adaman!
Round 1
Irida vs Lian
“Ugh, I can’t believe this! Losing to a child…and in the first round too!”
“Heh…”
Mai vs Adaman
“Not bad little brother, not bad at all. Though you don’t have to gloat so much about it..” (; ̄ェ ̄)
“That was child’s play! Better luck next time Mai!”
Arezu vs Melli
“Hah! Take that you two faced jackass! Uh- I mean…well fought!” (˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵)
“Adamannnn…! Please drag this spikey tomato by her ugly bangs in the next round! Avenge the great Melli!” (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)
Round 2
Sabi vs Lian “As it was foretold in my vision. I won! I won! I’m unstoppable!” ٩(˃̶͈̀௰˂̶͈́)و
”Tch! You only won because braviary kept using Esper Wing. That was just a fluke.”
Palina vs Iscan
“Oh, is that all? That was easier than I thought. Were you going easy on me Iscan?”
“Y-you kinda told me to…”
Arezu vs Adaman
“Ugh, how could Liligant lose? To a fellow grass type? Unbelievable…damn you Adaman you crafty bastard you…”
“Don’t sweat it Arezu! I’m sure we can agree that my Leafeon is the superior grass type pokemon here…”( ・᷄ὢ・᷅ )
Let’s take a look at the scoreboard shall we folks?
Wielders knocked out
Arezu❌
Mai❌
Lian❌
Iscan❌
Melli❌
Irida❌
Wielders remaining
Y/n⭕️
Palina ⭕️
Sabi⭕️
Adaman⭕️
Score:3-3
Well this was a surprise.
After all that planning, you were a bit disappointed that more than half your team ended up losing in such a fashion, Arezu and Mai looking down in shame as you despondently stared at them. You glanced to your right to see Palina and Iscan chatting away, while Sabi was…still gloating to Lian about her victory. So much for girl power..It all comes down to you and Adaman as the tiebreaker.
“Looks like we’re in the final round eh y/n? Don’t worry, I’m feeling quite merciful today, your free to give up while you still can~”
“In your dreams dumbass!” you barked, trying hard not to stutter in front of him.
”Your the one who should give up, your clearly out of your element here.”
Okay, here goes, the big finish. Showtime. The final destination. The end to all ends. Okay, you might be making this a bit more dramatic than it has to be, but you can’t help it. This is your one chance to show the diamond clan leader how strong, cunning, and skillful you are in battle. You’ve battled against a handful of opponents, there’s no WAY you could possibly lose this right?
Well…
“Alright, let’s show him what we’re made of Nia!” You yelled out, throwing your Alpha Gastrodon out to the field.
Wait…
Gastrodon???
Oh no.
Your confidence zapped straight out from your body as you realized who your lead was. Nia. Your tough as nails Alpha Gastrodon you had caught in the Cobalt Coastlands. Perhaps the strongest amongst your team, but against a grass type like Leafeon… your face looked white as a sheet, sweating bullets as you realized your inevitable downfall. Your companions could only watch on in horror.
“Uh oh! Uh oh! Y/n is in hot water now! Hmm…I’m not getting a vision of y/n winning this fight..” Sabi said gloomily.
“Ohhhhh…..HOLD ME MAI!! I CAN’T WATCH THIS!” Arezu shouted, clutching onto Mai’s arm while burying her head into her shoulder.
“Well I, the great Melli, certainly can!” He said before pulling a small bag of popcorn out and smacking on it, smugness written all over his face.”I almost feel bad for the poor girl… Almost.”
“Honestly y/n, how could you make such a rookie mistake? I was praying to almighty Palkia to see Adaman’s downfall at the hands of yourself. What a shame.” Irida sighed.
A nervous smile adorned your face, looking up at Adaman only to see the ginormous shit-eating grin he was giving you.
“Sorry y/n.” He took a step forward, displaying his signature peace sign pose at you. Commanding his Leafeon to use a strong style Leaf Blade at your Gastrodon.
“I win.”
Just like that, the battle was over before you could even make a move.
Words failing you, you could only look down at the ground in defeat, balling your hands into fists.
“Hey…” Adaman started, putting a hand on your shoulder. “I’m pretty you didn’t mean to send out Nia right? Because if so…”
You smacked his hand away. “If your here to rub it in, just leave alr- mmph!” Adaman cuts you off, pushing his warm lips against your soft ones. Sets of giggles and stares as well as ‘woahs!’ were heard from the sidelines.
You could barely form words, he really just kissed you? Just like that? You weren’t ready for that at all. Well, you did lose, but still…that was your first kiss.
“Awww y/n finally had her first kiss! So adorable!!” Arezu gushed happily.
“Wait… you’ve never kissed anyone before
y/n? That’s news to me…” Mai said teasingly, Palina and Irida nodding in agreement.
“N-no i haven’t…is that really so surprising?” You laughed bitterly. “So Adaman…does this mean that you..?”
“Yup. I like you a whole lot y/n. Turns out, you’re kind of terrible at trying to hide crushes you know. I knew about your feelings a while ago. I never said anything about it because I knew you’d never admit to it.” Adaman said sheepishly. “Sabi uh…blurted it out to me one day and I’ve known since.. heh.” He admitted, scratching his hair behind his head.
Whipping your head around to glare at Sabi, she whispered out a ‘sorry!’ before hiding behind Arezu. The latter just giggling softly at the interaction.
You promised yourself you wouldn’t fall in love again but… maybe it’s worth trying again. As for Sabi….
You’d have to give her a stern talking to later.

Adaman x Female Reader: Pain In Two Ways pt 1
You were somehow brought into the Hisui region after having some wisdom teeth pulled and you were not able to communicate. But….you weren’t the only one to be brought through space-time into the region. Gonna contain some spitting up of blood.
Y/N = Your Name
E/N = Ex’s Name
You were floating through a dark void. You don’t know how, but, since you have stitches in your mouth from when you had your wisdom teeth pulled out, you couldn’t call out. You were told not to speak for a while. You also couldn’t eat anything solid until it was healed. But as you were in the dark, you heard a voice, “There is another individual of your time zone being brought to Hisui as well.” When you saw light, you knew you were gonna fall from the sky in the vast land of Hisui. And once you did, you passed out when you fell into a bush.
You woke up to see you were in a bed; a futon, for that matter. You almost forgot about your mouth; how it still hurts because of your stitches. You whimpered in pain; tears began to stream from your eyes. Just then, you heard somebody talk to you, “Whoa, miss! Are you alright?” You saw the figure rush to your side. He looked to be such a handsome young man, in fact. You slowly bring your hands up to your face to feel you were drooling blood from your stitches. You needed to spit it out. “Need to spit?” the man asks. You slowly nod. So the man grabs a trash can to bring to your side; you sit up to spit out the blood into it. “I know you have stitches in your mouth,” the man said, setting the trash can down next to the futon once after you spat in it, “just glad it wasn’t anything worse. I guess you had some teeth yanked?” You nodded. The man took hold of your hand and knelt down next to you. “My name’s Adaman. I’m the leader of the Diamond Clan. You’re in my hut in the Diamond Settlement; in the Crimson Mirelands. Don’t worry, you’re not broken anywhere. Though you are just in your shirt and socks. Your pants and boots are on the floor by the door. And since your mouth is hurting, one of our elders is putting together this pain medicine for it. It’s one of his great grandmother’s recipes for all types of oral pain. It works like magic.” You tried to smile, only it looked derpy because of your condition. “Is that a smile?” Adaman asks. You nod. It made Adaman chuckle a little. “Oh, you’re cute.” he says, gently stroking your cheek with his finger. But since you tried to smile, the pain got worse and you whimpered again; more tears coming from your eyes. Adaman’s face grew concerned. “Oh, dear,” he said, “I think you should be careful with smiling, it seems like.” He gently wiped your tears with a tissue.
You managed to eat thin soup for dinner after using this numbing medicine an elderly clan member made for you. Adaman sat with you while you were, well, drinking your soup since you couldn’t chew. You were worried about the soup touching your stitches, so as the soup was cooled down enough for you to handle, you shot it, a few slurps at a time. Adaman even made you some tea to drink. “Careful drinking it. It’s hot.” he tells you. You nod as you were finishing your soup. Adaman set your soup bowl down and blew on your tea to cool it down for you. Once that was cool enough, Adaman brought the cup to your lips and you took a sip. It tasted really good. Like a sweet and calming flavor of Pecha Berries and medicinal herbs. “You like that?” Adaman asks you. You nod, making the man smile. You wanted to smile, too, but you couldn’t in risk of your mouth hurting again, even though you had that medicine coating your stitches. You just look at Adaman with thankful eyes. Adaman grins a bit. “Just so damn cute.” he chuckles. You blushed a bit. Then Adaman asks, “Is that medicine helping you?” You nod again. Adaman carefully cups your cheeks. “I’m glad.”
That evening, you had more medicine applied in your mouth before going to bed. You weren’t spitting up blood as much now. Adaman had been super careful with you; taking care of you. It made you happy. You couldn’t show it, but you felt it. A youngster clan member had some paper and pencils for you to communicate with. You wrote down your name for Adaman to know. “Lovely name.” he says, making you blush again. He found it cute to see your face turn pink. He cupped your cheek. “How would you feel about me sleeping with you?” he asks. You took your paper and wrote, I would like that. Adaman nodded. “Alright. I’ll be sure to keep you comfortable. Just tap on me if you need anything, okay?” You nod. Then you both lay down on the futon; Adaman pulling the covers over the both of you; cuddling with you. Before you both could go to sleep, Adaman whispers to you, “You’re really beautiful, I have to say. Like…” he stroked your cheek softly, then continued, “there’s something about you I find interesting. Though, I would love to hear your voice. Even if it’s a whisper. Even a hum. Even a mumble. If you don’t mind…can I heard just one little sound? I mean, I did hear you whimper a few times, but I wanna hear you. The real you. You won’t have to say anything more after that if you still need to rest your mouth.” You nod a little, then, being careful with moving your mouth, you let something out. “A-Adaman…” That was the only thing you said; his name. Adaman smiled. “First time I’ve ever loved the sound of my own name. Like wow! I love your voice.” That made you blush. Adaman then kissed your forehead and said, “Get some sleep, (Y/N). Goodnight.” You slowly nod, then closed your eyes to sleep. Adaman looked at you for a little while before closing his eyes, too.
You wake up to see you were alone. Where did Adaman go? You wondered. You thought nothing else of it and got out of bed to go to the bathroom. Once you came back out, you see Adaman setting his table with a plate of food and a cup. You figured the cup was for you since, again, you couldn’t eat solid foods. When Adaman looked over to see you come out of the bathroom, he smiled. “Good morning, (Y/N).” He walked over to you to hug you, then guide you to the table. “How’s your mouth? Still hurting?” he asks. You nod a little. Adaman grabs the medicine bottle. “Here. I’ll put more of this in your mouth before you eat. Open up.” He dips a swab into the medicine bottle. You open your mouth and Adaman proceeds to apply the medicine in there. You were amazed at how fast the stuff numbs your condition. As Adaman had told you, it works like magic. Once that was settled, you both went right to eating (you drinking, of course). You took your time to drink your shake, still being cautious about your stitches. The tip of your tongue was stuck out as you had the edge of the cup in your mouth. Adaman watches you as he eats, making sure you were being careful with your mouth. You could still taste your shake; containing chocolate and Nanab Berry flavors. It was so good. Adaman finished his food before you finished your shake. Once you did, Adaman cleared the table and helped you back to the bed. He sat beside you and put an arm around you; looking at you with calm eyes and a gentle smile. “You seem to be strong for what you have going on. I’m pretty impressed. Have you dealt with any other kinds of mouth pain before?” You took your paper and pencil and wrote, Just having injections going into my gums, even though I had numbing stuff applied before that. And I broke a tooth once. Couldn’t chew on that side until I had that fixed. Chewing there would irritate the exposed gum. I do brush well every day, however. Adaman raised an eyebrow. “Still, strong.” he said. You chuckled, trying not to smile with that. Adaman chuckled, too. Then he had something in thought. “Oh, as I was making our food earlier, there had been some talk about the two people who fell from that hole in the sky. I know you’re one of them, but the other person, I heard, is increasingly annoying and suspicious. But you…you seem little to nothing at that. However, though, this guy was brought to the Galaxy Hall in Jubilife. Probably being signed up to join the Expedition Team.” Just then, there was a knock on the door. Adaman stood up. “Coming!” he called out. He walked to the door to answer it. A strange man with long purple hair was standing there, disgusted. “Melli, what brings you here?” Adaman asks. “There’s this weirdo who just joined the Galaxy Team, who was just talking to me out of nowhere about his ex girlfriend.” Melli says, shuddering. “Ermmm…okay?” Adaman didn’t know how to respond to that. Melli continued, “This guy says all sorts of horrid things about her. Calling her insane and mentally unstable. He even said if he sees her around here, he’d hope a wild Pokémon would kill her.” Adaman raised a brow at Melli, saying, “Did he say what her name was? Sounds like he’s the one to be mentally unstable if he wants her dead.” “Apparently, her name is (Y/N).” Melli said. Adaman’s eyes widened in shock. You heard your name being mentioned. You knew EXACTLY whom Melli was talking about. Fuck!
