Sorry for the unexplained absence there, I became a Whumpee myself and got ridiculously sick with a sinus infection for the past two weeks. But, we're back.

Every time I see something implying that a moderately robust exclusion-based filtering system means that you are able to avoid seeing anything you don't want to see (with a heavy implication of 'so stop complaining about what you see') all I can think is "this person doesn't understand people."

HI I'M DOING INCREDIBLY JANKY PSYCH RESEARCH ON TUMBLR WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG
basically i'm doing a paper and trying to really dissect and understand the experience of having and coping with depression. while i've thought about this, i've sort of been extrapolating off my own experiences, but i just realized i have no idea if anyone other than me has had this experience:
do you ever feel depressed emotionally and physically, but not cognitively and like, morale-wise? like you have no energy, and are really sad, and nothing seems interesting or can hold your attention, and you're just kind of a lump who wants to curl up in a ball under a desk somewhere and melt into the floor.
but at the same time, you're not like,,, deeply existential or mentally spiraling or having self-hating thoughts about it. like your internal monologue isn't depressed, too. somewhere in the back of your mind, you're sitting there like "hey, man, i know it's rough right now. just hang in there, okay?" maybe your brain produces the thought "what's the point?" and you go "dude. no. there are so many points. don't talk like that."
i'm sort of imagining an army that's been losing a war but still has high morale, if that helps at all. like you're not winning. you're not okay. but in a sense, some part of you is okay, because you still have hope. in short:
i couldn't have as much specificity/put as many options as i would have liked so please feel free to elaborate in the notes/tags if you want, but i know it's personal so no pressure. also don't worry about if you're Officially Diagnosed or not—if you have a reasonably strong suspicion, go with it for this.
THANK YOU EVERYONE ILY!!

Genuine question: do any writers have a personal discord just for their writing? Obviously because of the character limit actually writing in the Discord isn't super feasible but things like references, links, photos, notes, etc.

I have a question for the Zelda LU fandom people
In most LU posts and fics I come across,
Why is Legend sour and grouchy? Like he’s sarcastic and curses a lot. He seems hot headed and annoyed?
I’m just curious because I’ve played Link to the Past, the oracle games, and Links Awakening.; and he wasn’t like that…?
I thought he was very sweet. Especially when going through Link’s Awakening. He seems like a guy that’s been through a lot and I’d think he’d be one of the most humble?
To my normal followers, I’m just really passionate about LoZ sorry 😅

Me: Yeah, I don't think I'm going to really do fandom whump unless requested... I'm just not that into fandoms anymore and want to curate my own space.
Linked Universe: Hi.
Me, shoving that sentiment aside immediately: Hi!

It makes me kind of sad when people use "#shut up ___" as their personal text posts tag like... you don't need to shut up, that's the point, don't silence yourself in your own space.

Gotta love low stakes, domestic whump.
Whumpees who aren't deathly sick, but just really uncomfortable and trying to work through it. They’re trying so hard to hold back their coughs that they’re left in tears from the effort. They’re slumped over their desk, too exhausted to sit upright. Caretaker all but drags them away from their work, ignoring Whumpee’s whining and bundling them up on the couch. Whumpee’s snoring within 10 minutes.
Whumpee’s who are left out in the sun for hours…because they fell asleep on the beach. And it just so happens that, lo and behold, Whumpee didn’t put on sunscreen despite Caretaker reminding them to several times. Whumpee’s wines of pain are the only thing making Caretaker swallow the ‘I told you so’ that Whumpee has coming.
Whumpee’s who are terrified of an upcoming medical procedure. Not because it’s an invasive, dangerous surgery, but because getting your wisdom teeth removed is embarrassing. Caretaker keeps reassuring them that yes, they're willing to drive Whumpee home, and no, they won't record Whumpee while they're out of it, even if they do say something funny. Caretaker keeps that promise, even if they can’t stop the amused, fond smile at Whumpee’s disoriented babbling.
I love the hardcore whump sure, but I can’t deny my love for low stakes and gentle comforts.

Someone recently asked me about the difference between whump and angst, so I figured I’d make up a little diagram about them and where they overlap. Maybe it will be helpful!

is it a universal knowledge that “—” in a dialogue sentence means the character stutters but immediately speaks the next word without a pause while “…” means the character trails off with a small pause before continuing their sentence, or is it something my brain makes up for some reason and I’ve been applying it to everything I read and write on AO3?
