Goodbye
Hi everyone. Sorry for being inactive since a long time. After much thought I have decided to leave Tumblr. I came to a final decision yesterday after the breakdown of a relationship which meant everything to me. I need to come to terms with this loss and heal. I won't be deleting the blog and you can still like or reblog older posts. I started strictlyindianfashion in 2015 and I am glad it has had a long and successful run and that I was able to manifest my vision into this blog, i.e, to represent real Indian fashion, that reflects the diverse subcultures, skin tones and religions of India. I thank each and every one of you for following, liking and appreciating. Thank you and goodbye ❤️

Hi--Im an african american woman and have been invited to my boyfriends brother wedding by my boyfriend. I am nervous scared and feeling anxious. There are a few layers to this story including the fact that no one knows that I am his girlfriend though they suspect. He is not allowed to ever marry me because Im black but he is not sure yet what to do. Im scared to go to the wedding --not sure what to wear. Please help
Hey I am extremely sorry for not being able to answer this soon enough. I understand what you are going through. It can be so unpleasant and devastating when your partner's family doesn't approve of you especially when their disapproval is rooted in racist prejudice (as an Indian/South Asian I am really ashamed) . As stressful and scary as it seems please remember you aren't alone. There are plenty of men and women who love someone of a different race or even faith and are able to successfully surmount the obstacles or oppositions that come with such relationships. This holds true for LGBT couples too.
I may be assuming but I do believe your boyfriend may have invited you to this family wedding as he feels there is a possibility to work things out with his parents, change their mindsets and build an amicable relationship between you and them. If your boyfriend is supportive I would suggest you attend the wedding. Please try your utmost to be calm, patient, respectful and confident (above all else). If possible and if you are comfortable, do wear Indian clothing. Here are some ideas.

The woman in the photos is Masaba Gupta. She is a leading Black Indian fashion designer and entrepreneur and has dressed many A list Bollywood stars. She is considered a beauty and style icon in India and has also successfully launched a makeup and fragrance line.
Love and luck ❤️

Do you think it’s appropriate/okay for non-desi to wear Indian fashion?
In my opinion it's appropriate if you have been invited to a South Asian wedding or any other desi cultural event or are married to a South Asian. Also if you are an expatriate or tourist in India or other South Asian countries it is acceptable to wear casual ethnic clothing. Naturally, it is important to educate oneself on the garments, use the proper indigenous names (for instance, calling a saree a saree and not a wrapped summer dress or some such!) and to also respect the country/region and its culture/traditions as a whole. I wouldn't be comfortable with a non desi wearing Indian clothing outside of a South Asian setting (so to speak). I see appropriation of Indian/South Asian fashion even online. I have seen many of my posts reblogged and tagged as GOT/Cosplay/Star Wars costume inspiration! It's extremely disrespectful and disturbing considering such individuals are knowingly using clothing of a particular culture as costumes. I also see many non South Asian fashion pages on IG etc posting Indian fashion campaigns and not crediting the source or simply not captioning or acknowledging the fashions as Indian/South Asian.

Hi! Lovely blog. Hope this doesn’t sound rude but can you occasionally post photo sets where all the pictures are same sized? I have ocd and i would appreciate it. Of course it’s all up to you, this is just a request. Thanks!
Thanks for the appreciation! I understand how agitating OCD can be. Will try to post more shorter and equal sized photosets whenever possible!
