Jaeden Martell is quarter Korean and he has mentioned that his culture is quite important to him! So to see that projected onto fanon would be awesome to see. I’ve mentioned it in some fics I’ve written before too but I think that should definitely be explored more so... I think I’m boutta do that

And yeah... it is more “canon”. I’m half Japanese half white myself and when I learned that Jaeden was mixed I was so happy!! Because visibility and representation is so important and to see it in a piece of media I care so much about was really affirming.

I know how it feels to have your culture erased and dismissed and I think that would be super cool to explore with mike about visibility and also, as you said, being POC in a white dominated town. And hell, even then bonding abt being in a white dominated friend group.

Similar to the Jewish Richie thing, I see people draw or headcanon Eddie as a person of color pretty frequently. Or at least they draw him with noticeably darker skin than most of the Losers. I also see Latino Eddie as a popular headcanon.

And this is valid! The Losers need more color! But I wonder if this is like the Jewish Richie thing. Are you bestowing this on Eddie because he’s your fave? Are you continuing to basically ignore Mike in the process? If you’re making Eddie Latino or not white is he bonding with Mike over being boys of color in a mostly white friend group and mostly white town? 

I’m not going to get into this too deeply but I also notice that people consistently make him light skinned. Mike is already dark skinned, so maybe they’re doing this for “variety’s” sake but I don’t know… I don’t really buy that. This might be a colorism thing. But I can’t really speak to that. 

Anyway, you know who’s out in the real world being mixed/light skinned and dealing with that every fucking day? Jaeden. So why not make Bill mixed?? 

Why not make Bill Asian? That would actually be quite cunt, for the Asian boy to be the brave strong leader for a change. 

But again, it’s almost exclusively Eddie who gets racebent. Okay, so like, yeah Jack is not as pale as the other whites. But he’s not Latino. So I get drawing Eddie as more tan than the other whites. But people go the extra step and explicitly say they views Eddie as a person of color, or they draw him even darker than Jack. 

Again, there’s nothing wrong with this. But are you sidelining the black boy when you do this? Are you skipping over the more “logical” choice in Bill? The Bill point is really just that a lot of reddies still hate Bill and I can’t stand it, so that’s why I’m suspicious of that. But mostly my concern is the sidelining of Mike. 

I have seen content where Richie and Stan bond over being Jews together. I have never seen content (again selection bias hey how are you) where Mike and Eddie bond over being non white. Just saying! If you headcanon Eddie as a person of color, maybe work more to put Mike to the forefront of your content too! Maybe even consider shipping kasplon??
