Is Hunchback of Notre Dame the DARKEST Disney Movie? 🧐 This week on MHM we talk all about the main characters of Hunchback with special guest @boopabelle! Abelle is a queer non-binary person who’s also a lifelong nerd, artist, and fan of all things spooky. They’re also a giant animation nerd who absolutely loves geeking out about what makes it such a unique medium for storytelling and expression. We are so excited Abelle was able to join us for this discussion!! We talk about the more problematic areas of Hunchback as well as reasons we love the three main characters - who all serve as the damsel in distress of this story at some point throughout the film. Some themes that come up in our conversation include religious trauma/upbringing, racism and unconscious bias, manipulation/abuse, and jealousy/lust. Here’s why I think a lot of people are stepping into their “Villain Era” right now … Cosplaying as the villain, personally, gives me more confidence 🖤 Villains are HOT - there’s a reason people are attracted to the “bad boy” (bad person) aesthetic. The rebel without a cause. The willingness to do whatever it takes to meet your end. It. Is. Sexy. 🤍 Villains are shameless. You have to have a certain confidence to go for what you want without shame. Is that confidence or… recklessness? I think maybe you have to be delusionally confident to behave recklessly??? ❤️ It’s the attitude for me. The audacity. The sheer knowing what they want and then going for it just because they FEEL LIKE IT. Because of the above, I find that when I’m in a villain cosplay, I’m able to bring out these qualities of going FOR IT just because. So maybe your villain era is really just your stepping into your POWER era. I’m not saying it’s good to BE a villain IRL, I’m saying it feels good to PLAY one. And that play breeds natural confidence, at least for me. How can you bring “villain energy” into your every day life to step into your confidence? Have you ever cosplayed a villain? Saturday of #NYCC I felt like a freaking ROCKSTAR ✨ I was off to a slow start painting myself green at the booth but once I was all done up, it was game time! That morning, I had been feeling a little more relaxed because I had gotten my panel out-of-the-way but as soon as I stepped foot out of my little community lounge/cosplay central area, I was overwhelmed by how crowded the convention was. I was really excited for people to see my She-Hulk gala look but I did not anticipate the reception I received. I couldn’t take two steps without someone stopping me for a photo - WHICH WAS AMAZING. This look definitely takes the record for the most times I have been stopped at a convention because of my cosplay (The previous record holder is my Doc Ock from 2019). The comment I got the most was “WOW YOU WORK QUICKLY” because the gala episode of She Hulk had just aired two days prior, but I had this dress since the trailer aired 😂😂😂 Highlights of the day = I got to see SO many friends AND make new ones, after several tries, I finally got to see @charlesdsoule at his table, I got to shoot with @christopher_batiz_photography and @joemichaelphillips , impromptu shoot with @mandybars and @diamondqualityphotography , AND I got to see the QUEEN Jamie Lee Curtis speak at the Halloween Ends panel (this was before seeing the movie, I have now seen it and I have OPINIONS, feel free to DM to discuss lol) Some cons of the day = I spent more time away from my booth than I anticipated, I walked around waaaay too much in my heels and my feet were dead, and the overwhelming crowd. Overall, I had a blast and truly appreciated every person who took a photo of me/with me or told me they loved my cosplay. I actually ran out of business cards! FRIDAY of #NYCC was EVEN BETTER than Thursday 🎉 💚 My booth was open in the Community Lounge (I spent most of the day at my booth entering folks into a raffle for a free Geeknasium Membership) 💚 I hosted a panel about Fitness & Body Image in the Cosplay Community (with wonderful panelists @rachelcizeitup - her face is amazing in the photo I posted 😂 - @diamondqualitycosplay and @stardust_megu) 💚 I wore my “I ❤️ Mexico” She-Hulk cosplay while eating (and carrying around) Flamin Hot Cheetos with chopsticks 💚 Got to see the “Cosplaying while Plus Ultra” panel with @tranquil_ashes , @autumnaffair713 and @stardust_megu - philosophy about making cosplay work for YOU and how you look now 🥰 💚 Caught the tail end of the “Hijab Modesty in Cosplay” Panel because it overlapped with mine. Fantastic conversation with @raisincosplay @eonsi_designs @kahramanahe @darcythedandy and @helalipop 💚 Hunted Artist Alley for some fun artwork (I will post a NYCC haul of all my goodies, promise!) 💚 I had bought several new products from @mehronmakeup the day before and used them to paint myself green at my booth in the morning! Being an exhibitor and a speaker is hard work. On one hand, I am so grateful to have an official location to promote my workout program @geeknasium 💪🏼 On the other hand, because I spend most of my time at the booth, it’s difficult to go out and see the rest of the con. As for the panel, I LOVE HOSTING. It absolutely lit me up. I was a bit overstimulated because of the location of the panel, but overall, I’d say it went really well! The recording will be available Thursday (Oct 27) on @love_your_bodd ! The opportunity to have a panel and booth at NYCC is unmatched. I get to promote holistic health and my mission of helping nerds “fit in” in fitness and escape into exercise just as they do in their favorite fandoms for a living?! It’s unreal. Thursday #NYCC photo dump and recap! I can’t believe New York Comic Con was TWO WEEKS AGO 🤯 I had a TON of fun this year.
