ello! I just discovered your blog and I want to say your artstyle is /so good/. it's making me insane. do you have a specific strategy for choosing colors? or like any weird art tips in general? I'm super curious
Thank you so much @mothzarellaman! (Sorry this took forever for me to get around to answering - life has just been super busy on my end.)
First and foremost I use the free digital painting software FireAlpaca so the lingo may be a little different here and there from other drawing programs.
I'll be honest with you, I suck at color theory so my strategy is to "cheat" by fiddling with Blending modes + the percentage of their Opacity. Doing this with a solid color like blue or pink can unify your base hues to bring about a more desirable palette that is pleasing to the eye.
And a few weird art tips of mine: (1) Never draw on a white canvas - a colored background is easier on the eyes and has the potential to influence the mood and/or direction of your drawing from the very beginning. (2) More is less! Although colored line art can really make your piece pop, sometimes the details can get lost if everything blends together. Try limiting your colored lines to just the ones inside - it can make your piece bolder. (3) Wanna really push yourself when it comes to digital art? Try cutting down on your layers! I often only ever draw on one layer, I feel like it gives my art a more "organic" look and when I'm not fretting over an overwhelming amount of layers, I can just relax and enjoy the process... if that makes sense. :3
