the new minecraft lore is like:

there are no mobs in the cities. something is stopping them; something is either killing them or maybe even they know not to venture down there, that it’s too dangerous.

but down there, there are candles. there are wool pathways. there are redstone lamps. whatever civilization lived down there was smart, much more advanced than villagers. they had thick walls, and figured out that wool kept Wardens away, and made enchantments to allow them to run quickly and quietly. they had nether blocks, basalt and soul fire, and their buildings nearly resemble nether fortresses, or bastions. there were whole communities that thrived in spite of the threat, until they didn’t, of course. 

did they live in fear of the Warden? if so, why didn’t they leave? could they leave? did they try to make a portal to do just that? their cities are intricate and their floors are lined with wool that children could run across and stumble over without worry and did they whisper, constantly? did they teach children legends of the beasts that would come if they didn’t quiet down? did the children believe them? did they make candles on holidays and dare each other to set the skulk sensors off with small dripstone pieces? did they keep bees, or did they ration their wax carefully, trying to learn the secrets of redstone and soul fire to keep their lanterns burning before they ran out? how far did they get in their knowledge? why didn’t they leave? what were they staying for, what were they trying to find with that portal?

SPOILERS FOR THE 28/11/21 LORE STREAMS

Imagine Boo meets Tubbo for the first time after the incident.

Boo remembers Tubbo, he remembers building the mansion. He remembers Michael and bringing Phil to meet him. They talk at length about things, Boo's got plenty of time on his hands. Eventually Tubbo gets sad.

"I miss you." He says. But Boo doesn't get it.

With that insistent expression of glee on his face he asks;

"Why?" His head turning slightly in confusion.

When Tubbo just stares at him in horror he elaborates.

"Why would you miss me? I was an anoying little shit. Nobody liked me. I don't like me."

And Tubbo just sits there in horror while Boo bathmouths themself. Until he's had enough of it.

"Stop it." He says softly.

"Stop it." He repeats louder when the other refuses to stop.

"Stop it!" He yells. And Boo stops and stares.

"That's my husband you're talking about! I loved him! Stop talking bad about yourself!"

Tubbo feels the tears stream down his face as Boo just sits and watches, confused.

"But-"

"NO! I loved him then, and I love you now. But I miss you how you used to be. I miss sitting in silence, I miss laughing with. Not at you."

Tubbo gets up and leaves, arms covering his face.

And as Boo sits there, stunned and surprised, but still giddy and happy and with a smile on his face.

For the first time since dying he regrets it.

He didn't want to die.

He wants to be alive.

The conscious decision to watch MCYTs ultimately proved to be in my best interests because it prevents me from thinking literally anything is cringe. okay let me ramble about o!ranboo for a bit. Like the way his character is played is perfect for the server. The whole point of origins is that everyone's got their own strengths and weaknesses, and that not everything is feasible for everyone. Phil struggles going underground. Tubbo gets weak at night. Niki can't go on land for very long. Whatever, you get the idea. But essentially, in order to survive, they need to work together.

Now, o!ranboo is a stubborn little bitch. He doesn't ask for help from anyone. He's even too headstrong to listen to his own particles. He wants to do things his way and he wants to keep things for himself. Now, we've seen him struggle with getting to the stronghold, traversing the nether, and even when offered help from others he rejects it immediately. The whole "silence, peasant!" bit. It's fucking hilarious.

But.

There's probably going to come a point, "canonically" (putting that in quotes because frankly I don't know how much lore is gonna develop on the osmp), where o!ranboo is going to need help. It's in the nature of the server. He's gonna have to learn. He's gonna have to develop. It sets up the perfect opportunity for his character to have these realizations about the world around him and become a better person. And man I hope it's executed well.
