So! You saw/listened to/had a dream about Hamilton and discovered how fucking glorious rap is. Maybe you already know some rap and hip-hop but not a lot. Maybe you’re looking for some great rap songs to memorize to use for your Hamilton auditions (you badass, you). The reason why you’re reading this doesn’t matter so much; the point is we’re here, and it’s time for some basic history and recommendations!
Tumblr media
By Genre
A nice and easy place to start! This will mostly be about education and covering all the bases, but I promise that you’ll like it. This is by no means an exhaustive list of all sub-genres (I’m skipping some of my favs like Crunk and Dirty South because I don’t think it applies to Hamilton), just ones that I think relate to the musical.
Old School You might like these artists if you enjoy the tracks that are more stripped down and simple, and more conversational. Notable examples: A Tribe Called Quest, The Sugarhill Gang, Eazy-E
Latin Rap You might like these artists if you want to throw some love at Lin in particular and give respect to his roots Notable examples: Calle 13, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar
Pop Rap/Hip Hop You might like this if you loved the tracks that blended more classic musical style with the rap style. Notable examples: Kanye, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne…basically all of Young Money
Conscious Rap: You might like this if “I am just like my country/I’m young, scrappy and hungry” resonated with you on a deep level Notable examples: Kendrick Lamar, Common, Talib Kweli
Gangsta Rap: You might like this if you found yourself wanting more Hercules Mulligan in your life Notable examples: Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G.
Alternative/Nerdy: You might like this if you’re on Tumblr Notable example: N.E.R.D., Childish Gambino, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots
Queer Rap/Hip Hop: If you’re into that Hamilton slash thing and are LGBTQ Notable examples: Big Freedia, Zebra Katz, Mykki Blanco
Tumblr media

Reasons I desperately want the Voltron/Korra people to make a Percy Jackson cartoon:
They wouldn’t have to do anything but animate it because the dialogue is already perfectly written
You can slap an educational label on it for the parents, but it’s way too entertaining for kids to care
There’s more than enough material for 5+ seasons, and no end in sight
There’s a huge built in fanbase
Animation means no terrible live action effects
IMAGINE THE MERCHANDISING OH MY GOSH like just imagine the Argo II Lego set!! and CHB shirts at Hot Topic and Festus on everything
They clearly know how to capture/choreograph water-based fight sequences (Also imagine Jason, Leo, and Hazel air/fire/earth bending)
As far as I know, Fox still holds the adaptation rights. Meaning, they could probably contract the animation studio to make the show and then air it one of their networks
Seeing Rick go from, “Movie? What movie?” to “Lol yeah, I wrote that.”
Representation. Like a cartoon made with kids with ADHD and dyslexia in mind? Yes please. Main characters of all different races/backgrounds? Gotchu. Gays? Doesn’t get gayer than Greek mythology.
People loudly and proudly supporting team Greek or team Roman
Also people sporting their Godly parent like a Hogwarts house
The very first Percabeth kiss breaking the internet.
Nico Di Angelo breaking the internet.
Characters dying onscreen and it being traumatizing but necessary
Getting to see whats going on at both camps simultaneously and filling in some of the gaps
Kids getting to grow up with Percy in a completely new way

Inheriting after Signing the Storybook of Legends
After watching Way Too Wonderland, the question of what other characters inherit after signing their fate off to the book has been quite puzzling. If you don’t understand, I’m talking about how Raven just gained her full/mother’s power after signing it. So my question is, after signing the book, what do all the other characters in the show gain after signing the book?

#ourgeneration horror stories
They find a book written in Latin… one guy doesn’t take Latin and doesn’t want to mess up the pronunciation. The girl is studying Mandarin. Another guy recommends sticking it into Google Translate but that’s likely to land them with gibberish. They leave it alone.
The car won’t start. They call an Uber.
The vampire captures the girl and insists that she wears the gown to dinner. The gown is actually hella cute. Only problem is it’s not in her size. Oh, it only comes in 2’s and 4’s? Sorry, vamp, you want me in that dress you contact the goddamn company and tell them to get their shit together.
“How did you possibly know that? It saved our lives!” “I’ve got two degrees and I spend way too much time on Wikipedia.”
They encounter a spirit that gains power the more people believe in it. One girl makes a vine and uploads with, “fakest ghost ever!!! Right??” Twenty minutes later the spirit is destroyed.
The circus is in town tonight. Except she’s lived her whole life here and the circus has never come before… it’s also in a pretty sketchy part of town, not somewhere you’d want to walk alone at night. She goes to a movie instead.
“You’d need an ARMY to fight this evil!” “Okay. I’ve got 20,000 followers, lets see how many can make it.”
The Evil Whispery Voice of Doom tells the jock that it’s going to kill his pretty blonde girlfriend. The jock gets offended because, excuse me, Cindy and I are just friends. However, Marty over there is my boyfriend and I’m not saying you should kill him, just stop making assumptions yeah?
“This spirit tried to convince me it was Jerry when it texted but its texting style is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT so yeah that didn’t work.”
We could have easily gotten lost and ended up at some creepy cabin in the woods, but luckily we all had functioning GPSs. Beach party, we’ve arrived!
“We have to find a way to destroy it! We—what are you doing?” “Looking up ‘exorcising demons’ on Google. Oh look, first hit.”
The child she bares will be the devil’s spawn. Good thing she doesn’t want kids. Or if she changes her mind she can always adopt.
“How can we possibly outwit this serial killer…” “… There’s gotta be an app for that. Lemme look.”
Only the virgin will survive… Turns out they’re all virgins. One is asexual. One wants to wait until marriage. Two just haven’t found the right person yet. One is meh about sex. So we all survive, yeah?
The girl does not fall. She was on varsity track.
“Quick! We need someplace to hide the artifact. And then decoys to confuse the beast! What have we got?” “… I’ve got a hundred plastic bags stuffed into another plastic bag.” “PERFECT.”

Quote
Once upon a time, heroes and villains used to live in the same land. The heroes would try to spread love and peace, while the villains would try to bring darkness and chaos, but the thing was that those things were expected of them. It was their duty to be good or evil because once you went off script, you endangered the people you loved and those around you. The cycle went on generation after generation where both villains and heroes coexisted together until a certain fairy tale changed things... I'm pretty sure we all the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. There's a beautiful girl with hair as dark as ebony and skin as white as snow named Snow White and her evil Step Mother who we all know as the Evil Queen, we'll talk about her in a little while. Along the way we encounter seven dwarves, a huntsman, a lot of poisoned things like combs, bodices, and apples. Once Snow White wakes up from her poisoned-apple-induced slumber by true love's kiss from her Prince Charming, they got married. Real surprise, huh? Well, with their marriage and story came one of Ever After's most powerful villains : The Evil Queen (I told you we'd talk about her). The Evil Queen had went off script by cursing young Sleeping Beauty and even poisoning Wonderland before she had gotten trapped in the magic mirror. After that, Snow White, her Prince, and the Brothers Grimm had thought up of a genius idea to avoid any more fairy tales going off script: to banish every villain and keep them all imprisoned. Stupid idea, right? It wasn't like the villains weren't just trying to live and all. Well, Snow White and Prince Charming didn't see it that way. Together with every other kingdom in Ever After, they rounded up all that was evil and imprisoned them on an island called the Isle of the Lost. All the villains, their sidekicks, and all their children were sent there. They were kept there by a force field set up by the Fairy Godmother's magic. Now the people in Ever After live happily in peace. They have everything their hearts could desire. It's sickening, especially when everyone on the Isle lives in chaos. It just goes to prove that there is no such thing as happy endings, at least not for people like us.
When villains of different fairy tales are rounded up and banished to live in the Isle of the Lost while heroes of these fairy tales are celebrated as they live in the land of Ever After, Apple White's first proclamation as queen is to open the doors of Ever After High to the children of these so called fairy tale villains.  (Imagine Raven Narrating this okay?)
Okay, I suck because I suddenly thought of a Descendants AU for Ever After High. I know that a number of people dislike Descendants and often compare it to Ever After High but I honestly thought a Descendants AU would actually be quite fun.
I could definitely see Apple as Ben and Raven as Mal. Maddie could definitely be Evie’s character (unfortunately, The Mad Hatter isn’t considered a villain but Maddie and Evie match really well since their the smart people in the group) I’d love Cerise to be Jay’s character since Jay eventually joins the Tourney team and that kind of reminded me of the bookball game in Thronecoming and Cerise could definitely be considered a Villain since her father is the Big Bad Wolf. Carlos is a bit tricky though but he could possibly be Humphrey (since Computers and Tech) or Hunter (for like his love of animals). Any more ideas guys?
