TW: Death/Dying/Pet Death

**Prompt: Heaven isn't a pearly realm. It's a campfire beneath dead stars.**

He didn't think that he was a bad man. *You weren't.* A voice echoed from in the distance. He also didn't think he was necessarily a good man. *You were a kind man.* The voice, coming from that same place in the distance, didn't disagree with him, but did offer him this comfort. The darkness was everywhere, but he moved towards where he thought he'd heard the voice. Squinting, he thought he saw something, but he couldn't be sure if his eyes were playing tricks on him. He decided to keep moving towards it.

"Well, whaddya know, there's actually light at the end of the tunnel." He said aloud. His voice did not echo, it simply faded. He was surprised the light wasn't inherently becoming bigger and brighter like it did in the movies. *This isn't a movie.* He nodded his head in agreement. He knew he was dead already. The car had swerved head on into him, and he knew before it even happened he wasn't going to survive it.

He heard the sounds before the source of light was solid. It was still so far away, so he picked up pace, moving at a light, effortless jog. He wanted to just be there already. The familiar sound of a crackling fire already welcoming. As fast as he had the thought, he was there before the campfire, and tears began to run down his face. He was immediately swarmed by a pack of dogs, tails wagging furious, a handful of cats purring as they weaved their way in and out of his legs, some small birds chirped from closer by the fire. *It isn't much.* The voice wasn't any closer, and it still held little emotion. The man smiled as he sat beside the fire, his best friends from life surrounding him.

"It's Heaven to me."
