A Riding Nightmare ~drabble~
Sometimes you wish for dreamless nights. Silent, black and recovering, waking up with nothing to think about and nothing to recall. Just sleep. Sachi was the kind that wished for dreams, until she came to Aincard. Her nights had turned into a endless fight of survival, as nightmare after nightmare haunted her down during her sleep. This night she was in the fields outside Town of Beginnings. It was night. The wind made sounds reminding her of ice. The grass was dark and floated as the dark mist grew thicker. She had her spear tight to her chest. Her heart was heavy and her body slow. She tried to walk fast, but it was all like slow motion, and she came nowhere. The moon didn't move from it's lighting spot in the sky, staring at her, and no stars where to find. The sound of hooves coming closer caught her attention. Her feat from horses where for the most unknown, but she would never forget it. The sound that was so hard on her head, making it go blank, only thinking about the heaviness in those bodies and the furiousness in their dark eyes. Out of the fog she saw their silhouettes, and she made her spear ready. But her arms where already weak. Her stomach ached, and she wanted to run, but she couldn't. In dreams it doesn't have to make sense. You just know. She couldn't run. She could just stand there, make herself ready, and face whatever was coming. Horse monsters, bigger than the biggest horse she ever saw, with mane formed as shadows, hooves heavy as axes and holes in their eyes. They screamed, a cursed sound of emptiness and anger. None of them knew where they where going, as they couldn't see, and just pushed each other and stomped on the ground. It could be her, laying there on the ground, smashed by their heavy bodies and steel feet.
Tumblr media
The poor girl couldn't take it. So her feet came lose, and she ran. But her legs where slow, and she stumbled over her own feet. She came nowhere. The sound of their screams echoed in the chilly night, carried to her by the icy wind. It all whipped her on the back, as it feelt like she would start bleeding. She felt sore in her whole soul, terrified of what was to come. She knew she would fall. It was predicted. It was made to be that way. She tripped over nothing but her own fear, fell on the ground, and felt the grass on her cheek. The dreams in SAO was so real. It was just like the life in SAO, as everything here was a dream. There was no difference. This all was a hurricane, and she was a tree bending for it's power. The horrifying sound of their hooves around her was awful. It was close. It was everywhere. Their feet sank into the ground and rised again, dancing with their thousands of tonnes. She couldn't scream. She could just stare, watch them. Look up as one of the reached her location, and was just about to smash her head. The sound was awful. Her whole brain exploded, her skull was crushed. That's the sound she woke up to, all warm in her bed. Breathing heavily, and would soon curl to fetal position and cry.

It was a little surprising that he gave such an answer, since Sachi was sure he wouldn't even answer. Or because she thought she spoke to herself more than to him. Yet, he answered. And it was a pretty touching answer, but it still made the bluette feel bad since she did nothing. Could you tell just by looking at her that she was good for nothing in this world? He was very blunt, and that worried her. It made her afraid of failing. How she was able to fail was a rhetorical question, since there where no answer. Nothing and everything. She just feelt unsure and insecure. But this was human interaction, a piece of life in a world that was for her dead, so she tried. She did the best she could. "But leaving your past like that sound... sad." She murmured, looking at him, but quickly looked back at the back of the person in front of her when she realized he refused to look at her. It made her stomach heavy. Thinking about her family, her club and the dreams she had so long left behind her didn't feel good. She didn't want to leave them behind, thinking that they had nothing to do with her being here. If it wasn't for them she wouldn't be here. But she wasn't angry at them, cause she couldn't. It was them she missed.

Her whole image was insecure, innocent and pure. The kind of girl that people do as they please with cause she doesn’t have to courage to raise her voice. In other words, someone who didn’t belong here. Not that Daiki did, either. Some people said they where good here, that this was their perfect world. But the blonde for sure didn’t think that. Just like the girl next to him, he was locked in here, with someone waiting for him on the outside. Where was she now? Was she even next to his hospital bed, or was she watching their teacher from distance? The thought ripped him open, how the world outside where to continue ahead of him. It wouldn’t be a problem, if it had been his own choice. Damn it. Maybe it was the fact that he suddently related to the petite girl that made him stay and listen. Not that he would be much comfort or much of a friend. But he tilted his head backwards, up at the sky, and felt like sighting. But only a deep breath passed by. He didn’t dare to look at her. The panic girls always gave him felt far away for now, but he knew himself well enough. Even if it was sad, to always keep distance, it was for the best. Or perhaps for his pride. “In a place where your true identity doesn’t matter, people can finally get along.” He commented without much effort. It was a carefree and blunt statement. Rising one of his hands, placing it behind his neck, Daiki still refused to watch her. But it was true. Your background was worth dust in a world like this, and only here he had ever experienced such unison between so many diffrent people from so many diffrent places. “We all have in common that we’re stuck here, after all.”

Sachi had started to run, eventually, but at the moment she heard his voice she had to obey. Halfly, this was what she wanted. So her feet stopped in the middle of the running, making her wobble, and the delicate girl had no idea what to do. The whole situation was just too bittersweet, so her cheeks where still painted in tears. She must look awful, she thought. So at the moment she sat down on the ground with her arms around her kneeks and her face hidden in the warmth of her own body. She could hear her own heatbeats. They didn't beat hard in the way they did when she met monsters or the bigger players approached her, but in the way it seemed to do when Kaito was involved. Somewhere in a storm of bleeding feelings she felt a piece of hope. For what, she didn't know herself. Just yet. But the fact that she was crying and Kaito had already spotted her was still remaining, as the big moment was getting closer, and her breathing stopped, just for you to her a sulking again. Continued with a sniffle. The girl clenched on her blue armor, and her marine bangs fell over her arms. Her tears had stoppped flowing for now. She heard his footsteps like they where the only thing around, and she wondered what he felt. Why he chased and what he would do now with his friend sitting on the ground like a retard. "Sto-" She started, but her voice was drowned by something in her throat, so she cleared it with a cough. "Don't l-look at me... I look awful when I cry..." A slight lie, that was. Or so to say, not a fact. She always ran away when she cried and had no time to look at herself so she had no idea. But she just wasn't brave enough to look at him right now.

Blue Hue Of Tears - Kaito & Sachi
A world where your past doesn't matter, where you come from or what you believe can pass by, and where everyone have at least one thing in common, can unite people. It was wonderful thing to see. But still, no matter where you are, there are people that refuse to get along even if it was a torrent of niceness around. And who would be a better piece of prey than a petite, vulnerable girl with tense walk and nervous eyes? Sachi couldn't resist showing her fear the moment the other laid eyes on her. They weren't old, but their armors where big, and they where certainly higher level than her. The Army. Even those who fight for justice, sometimes don't know what lies within the people they fight with.
Tumblr media
But where our story begin, Sachi is already hiding from them. Their voices echo inside her head, and for each letter it hurts, and the tears burned inside her eyes. What does a little piece of shit like you do here? Go and kill yourself already, or else you'll just be in the way of us warriors, you fly. Make sure I don't see that ugly face of yours when you start crying. And crying she where, badly, and the lump in her throat was so big by now she could no longer run. So while catching her breath, snoring once, the bluette rised her hand in a gesture to dry her wet cheeks, and try to figure out which way her home was. She just wanted to go there and hope to find something making her forget about this uncomfortable meeting. So through a pair of hazy eyes, Sachi looked up, and felt her heart getting hard the moment she laid her eyes on him. She wanted to be happy about his presence here, but she knew that she was still crying, and if he noticed her she would never be able to stop. She didn't want to show herself so weak in front of him, after all that's happened. But she didn't want to leave. A part of her wanted him to notice her, hug her and ask her what's wrong. So she couldn't leave. She was frozen, staring at him. She knew that right now, there where just seconds, before she would be noticed. Her whole inside felt torn, open and bleeding. Or more like a wind was coming out of her heart, causing storm in her whole body. A mess. No, he couldn't see her like this. So she turned her head first, then her body, and tried to escape.

"E-eh?" Sachi watched his expression from her unsure spot, not being able to stand completely still due to the nervous feeling tingling in her fingers. So, in the end, there would be monsters. Of course there would be monsters. Sachi was for once lucky to meet them in the company of someone, more or less, but knowing that she wouldn't be able to do much at all was maybe worse. People looking at her as a pathetic player was propably the worst, when it came down to things. She wished to be out of help. "I..." Whatever sentance that was, she wasn't able to finish it. She threw her head to the other side, intensively listening to the sound that was coming closer, one again clenching her hands around her spear. In the end, her heartbeats got slower and harder, waiting for a point to panic. As the eyes of something big shone in the moonlight, and the white rays of light made the Ogre visible, all Sachi could do was stand there, staring. Her mouth was still open but no words where left. They seemed to have left her long ago.

«♞» — “Er… yeah. Sorry.” The black-clad youth had began to think it was rather stupid of him for thinking so, as most of the monsters were non-humanoid. He rubbed the back of his neck and took clear glance at the other for the first time. From the weapon she was grabbing tightly, she seemed to be a spear wielder, equipped with a defensive shield. A standard setup, which took away some mobility for solid offense and defense.

When the other started the speak, he shook his head. “Ah, no, it’s my fault, to be honest. I wasn’t looking.” Kirito’s tone was no longer frantic, gaining back his calm demeanor. He paused for a moment to use his [search] skill, scanning the surrounding area for monsters. A disturbance in the usually quiet forest made him stop- a group of monsters steadily approaching. “Oh. There’s a couple monsters coming towards us… Sounds like a few Ogre Runts.” He pointed in the direction of a clearing, where the faint sound of approaching feet could be heard. The boy turned towards the direction of the footsteps and took a fighting stance, readying his sword. “We can’t really outrun them, but a few won’t be a problem, right?”

Like A Sunbeam [Sachi dying in Kaito's arms]
Sachi felt ripped up. If anything was showing on her body, she didn't know. But she felt ripped up from the inside, destroyed, broken to pieces of bones. Bones of glass, so if you pick her up you'll hurt yourself. No one should come close. Just leave her there, as she becomes it, and return to whatever was before her. If that was returning. She knew she would die. It felt surreal, and somewhat cold. She was so young. She had so much options, so much chances and so much dreams ahead of her that would disappear into thin air. Maybe her dreams would evaporate to clouds, floating in a world of pure white, and her body would moulder to the ground and bloom as a cherry tree next summer.
Would she still be able to exist when her mind vanished? Would it hurt? Right now only her heart hurt. It felt like it was going to explode, and every heartbeat was so tight she felt like screaming in pure pain. The blood was pushing it's way through her body still, and that was all she could hear in her ears. The sound of her blood, aggressively holding her conscious, was keeping her awake. She was propably on the ground by now, but that didn't matter. Most of the world was already gone. Just colors, shapes and imagination. She wasn't a part of it anymore. She was already gone.
But she felt a touch of her body being moved, pushed against another chest and her head fell down as gravity took its grip of her. Still, it was lifted by the strength of a hand, caressing her head like it was a broken doll, the most precious gift to Earth. Sachi realized her eyes was yet open.
It was Kaito. He was hurting. Why? Because of her? Oh, that's what happens when you pick up broken pieces of glass-bones. If that even makes sense. For Sachi, it did. Right there. Everything just broke into pieces, and that's when the whole picture was complete, as pieces. Broken. Beautiful. The view of Kaito and his blue eyes was absolutely beautiful, and the blue-haired girl made a movement with her finger. She had still control over this body, even if it didn't feel like her own anymore. Just like she wasn't a part of the world, she was leaving it, her soul wasn't a part of her body anymore, slowly leaving it. But Kaito was still there. It made sense. Her soul was with Kaito, and would always cherish him.
What perfect way to end your incomplete life. Yet, she wanted so much more. She wanted her future. Why would it be taken away from her with such cruelty? She wanted to find whoever caused this and curse him, hit him to the ground and make him understand what it feels like. She wanted to save everyone, and most of all herself. She wanted to live.
“Kaito..:” Her voice didn't even stutter, yet, she was surprised to hear it. It was shocking. Her voice sounded so alien, as someone else was speaking for her, so weakly. The whole tone was so delicate it could break any moment. Death was in her breath, slowly but surely coming closer to the last one. Like a bomb ticking for exploding, or an explosion counting the seconds to vanish.
If she was to continue living, what would she do? Change the world? Probably not. But she could if she wanted to. She always had the ability to. But she would also thank Kaito for picking her up, not letting her die alone in this battlefield. She always loved Kaito. Once she broke a cup with tea, or soup, or whatever it was. She couldn't remember anymore. Her mind was slowly fading. But he had made her happy, as he always did, even now. She was a mere broken doll, yet she felt happy, that he was here. That she had met him.
“Being next to you... was always warm... like a sun beam.” The poem was from her heart, slowly but surely getting slower, and her tight heartbeats hurt more and more, but appeared less. “Like I could take a nap... anytime.” Yes, that's how it was. This peace. Always, around Kaito, sha had peace. Even now. So, she could rest in peace. Only if she closed her eyes, and died. So she did. The last thing she heard was the noises of a monitor in the hospital, reporting that hear heartbeats had ended, but her eyes had already lost their ability to see.

As she didn't feel any eyes on her, Sachi dared to look, even if only slightly, at the person beside her. It was a taller guy, maybe at her own age, with light hair and a light metal armor. It looked a little like a prince from a fairytale. Exept the fact that his face was cold, his tone cut-off and his eyes off. It made Sachi worried. He had answered her question, but she still couldn't see or hear anything. What a shame. She looked down, stroke some hair away from her face, as she felt guilty for asking him a question, and somehow wanted to make up to it by talking more. "O-oh yeah..." She stammered, not really knowing where she was going. Her voice trailed off, got quiet, her fingers tightened together and she felt incredibly stupid right there. "It's nice when they want to cheer on the ones in the battlefield..." Sachi had seen one of those before. Perhaps this was the same girl. She wasn't able to tell. As music wasn't available, at least yet, in the game all they had where their voices. That's why she wouldn't be able to hear anything, as everyone around them talked to their own parties in their own world. Even if, so close to them, a girl was doing her best to sing, and another was doing her best to hear it.
"Everyone is... doing their best..." Somehow that wasn't really directed towards the man, but more herself. Sachi was right now, as it seemed, the only person in this world not doing their best in their own way. To help, to succeed. She was just doing her best to stay away and forget the reality. This reality. It was cruel and unfair, and that's why everyone fought, exept Sachi. Sachi was hiding, deep in her own mind, minding her own business, keeping herself out of the way from others. She was no help at all.
In Others Eyes [SAORP Open]
Strolling the street with hands in a pair of pockets, Daiki was looking straight ahead, constantly locating his surroundings and sorting out what wasn’t important in his mind without any effort. It was a natural act, always happening inside all human heads. But what exactly was your mind, in here? He had never been able to figure this out. How it worked. It confused him deeply, making him frustrated.
Tumblr media
How else would you react, when the sun is warm and the water is wet in a non-excisting world? The blonde man finally noticed something pertacular with his hazel eyes. A crowd gathering around one of the buildings, clapping their hands. What a strange sight. In Japan this wouldn’t surprise you, as street performers where a part of the everyday walk, but in Aincard that seemed certainly strange. He moved forwards, heading towards the group of people. That’s right. There was a skill called Perform. Right there, a girl with almost no clothes on her body, was singing. Her voice was nice and warm, and Daiki that was longer than most there, where able to see her perfectly. Apperantly she did it for free. There where those people, trying to light up the darkness of this world. Choosing this place to do it was a good thing, he thought, but couldn’t be much more impressed. It was a girl after all, he couldn’t look at her for too long. He couldn’t be interested. So, that’s when he wanted to leave. But was interupted. Beside him, a blue-haired and blue-eyes girl had appeared. She didn’t look at him, luckily. He turned his head quickly, looking into the crowd, feeling his body tensing, wishing that this meeting would end quickly. “A singer.” He said, not really in a repelling tone, but certainly unamused. Nothing more. Nothing added, nothing lost. And so he was left there, standing still, leaning on the leg that was in the oppoiste way of the girl to get more distance.

In Others Eyes [SAORP Open]
Sachi returned her quest. As a girl doing her best trying to live inside of Town of Beginnings, she had to do quests to gain money. That's also how she gained level. She was never out killing monsters, so she had lots of time to do so. As more time passed less and less quests where available only inside the city, so she was lucky when she found one. They didn't give much money, but she didn't need that either. It was not like she was a superior chef or often invited guests, or needed money for armor in the end. When it was time to move outside the safezone, she would need to upgrade armor and weapons. But that was not now. She liked the NPCs. They where always smiling, and she didn't have to worry around them. They weren't real humans, wouldn't start screaming at her for nothing or complain about her wrongs. They where just following patterns the program created for them. In the beginning it creeped her out, but now it felt okay. The woman she just helped smiled and waved at when she walked away. In the main road people where still gathering, even if most people tried to get away from Town of Beginnings. The bad experience, you know. The darkness lingering inside the shadows of the pretty buildings. Somewhere upon the road, a crowd where gathering. The big bowl of people got alot of attention to it, and whatever they where watching got alot of attention to it too. Sachi's azure orbs got set on the destination out of mere curiousity. Inside the safe zone thing wasn't supposed to happen. Perhaps the nervous feeling inside of her was also a little part terrified. Sachi couldn't see anything. She was too short. But next to her she noticed another person, and slowly let her gaze look at the person in the corner of her eye. Coughting silently, she folded the end of her skirt and opened her mouth. She didn't dare to face the person, so she wouldn't even know if it was someone she knew. "D-do you know what's happening...?"

How is it, to be in Sword Art Online? Why do you want to get out? Aincard is a beautiful place, but that's only the surface. It's a cage. You can't get out of there, and you must feel a harsh feeling of wanting to escape. It isn't you having control over your own situation anymore. Someone else put you here, and have you one chance to come out, only with your life at risk. You're isolated, far away from your own reality and your own life. Perhaps you have friends, a nice house, an awsome class or a dream to fulfill that want you to go back to reality? I'm sure you have. But as time goes by, that isn't what you're thinking about. What you're really afraid of is what happens while you're in Aincard. First surely the people that knew you visited you on the hospital, left flowers and talked to you, perhaps held your hand. But while laying there with nails in your arms, unaware of your surroundings, what you're afraid of is being forgotten. When you're in Aincard, the time outside will move on. It won't stop. Your friends will go out while you're in the hospital. Your family will have dinner while you're in the hospital. Your cat will scratch it's ears and your dog will chase it's tail while you're in the hospital. People won't come visit you forever. The numbers will decrease, and they'll feel a heavy burder that they have to visit you. You'll became a burder. And so, they will force themselfes to not think about you, living on and creating now bonds and memories. Being in Aincard means having your time stolen from you. The time where you had so much plans, or perhaps no plans at all but at least was to do something, is gone. The fact that nothing was your own will, the fact that someone chosed it for you, the fact that you're not in charge of your own fate, is what makes you sad. Or perhaps mad. And what is it, exactly, to risk your life? How is it to face a monster and knowing it could kill you? How is it, entering the boss floor, not knowing what await you in the darkness? I don't know. Depend on your character, perhaps. But for a normal human, that isn't normal. We're not supposed to handle that kind of situation. We never learned how to react. So don't come and say I didn't feel anything pertacular while facing what decide your fate. Don't come and say I'm having fun while you're still in a battle of your life. Don't be stupid. Of course everything is about your character. But seriously, think. Put yourself in the situation the best you can. That makes it even more exciting! I promise. I don't know what this is. I'm just bored, I think. And a little scared about what's happening outside my window. So I wrote this as a reminder to myself, but also some help for you guys. Do your best to understand your own character! Especially now in the beginning where it should still be a big thing for them. As time pass by they'll surely grow more used to Aincard, but not now. Hugs and love, Sachi-mun.

Idiot. No need to count how many times Sachi had bumped into people on the street, always walking tense and focused to keep sure it didn't happen. Her rigid walk when there where still people around made it even worse, as she took a step to the side to avoid collision with a man, a girl from behind bumped into her shoulder. There where still many people wandering the main street of Town of Beginnings, even if it was beautiful weather and most had gone out to the fields and dungeons. "I'm sor-!" Sachi exclaimed. Her voice where high-pitched in nervousness almost to the point of fear. She had gone to fear people's reactions, as some where always nicer than others. It would be the best when people move on, and she will be alone in this town. But before Sachi even had the time to finish, the girl excused herself in a sweet manner, still standing still next to her. "Err..." She seemed to calm down, but was still folding with the end of her armor. "N-no... It was my fault... For suddently appearing like that..." She was unsure of what to say, as she was used to that people said somethign and moved on. "I'm alright..:"
✤ - ɢᴀᴍᴇ sᴛᴀʀᴛ - ✤
Sayaka had hardly strayed from the first floor. She was determined to level and fight her way through each and every floor, no matter how long it took, but as a solo player at a mere level 5, she was no match for anything at this point. Other players had logged in with friends, and had found them shortly after the announcement, so they already had a slight advantage. However, Sayaka had come alone, and it seemed everyday more and more players were leaving the Starting City.
She needed to find a party. It was the only way she would be able to safely navigate the floors, and being alone wasn’t something she wanted. However, meeting someone who did want to party was another idea—
Tumblr media
“Ooh! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean—”
Sayaka had been so completely focused on her thoughts that she hadn’t been watching where she was going, walking right into another player. ”Are you alright? I’m sorry, I guess I was thinking a little too much…” Sayaka apologized, raising a hand to scratch the back of her head, a sheepish grin.

Sachi watched the boy take his sword down, but didn't move an inch. Only her blue eyes and her lungs where moving back and forth. But she was in a situation that she could at least look over, and so she examinated the boy in front of her quickly. Black hair, brown eyes, rather pale skin, black coat. He looked cool, to be honest, but that wasn't what was going through her mind right at that moment. She was still holding into her spear with her hands so hard they where hurting. She propably forgot how to let it go.
"... A mob?" Her tone was finally back to normal, no stuttering or high-pitched changes. A careful, soft and unsure tone, suiting the bluette perfectly. She looked like she wanted to question something, like why would mob be after you or how could you actually mistake me for a mob, but the words didn't leave her mind. The situation was awkward, and Sachi was still tense, watching the boy cautiously, showing off her not-so-carefree nature. When he introduced himself, it finally started looking like a real meeting. He propably just did it out of pity, or politeness, she thought, but still appreciated the fact he did. She was used to pity by now. "I'm Sachi." Her answer was short, a little too short. After a couple of thoughts she decided to change it into something longer. "Sorry for bumping into you like that."

«♞» — Kirito looked from the other and back to the sword, seeming almost surpised. Did he do that? Had a few weeks in this world change him into a killing machine? No, it was just a reaction. He was jumpy, that was all. He quickly sheathed his sword, waving his hands out in front of him.
“A-ah, no! I wasn’t thinking, sorry! I-I thought you were a mob, and…” Kirito hastily apologized, bowing slightly. What a way to meet someone- mistake them for a mob and stick a sword in their face. He tried to make amends and calm the other down, who was speaking so quickly to the point of being incomprehensible, and introduced himself. “… Sorry again. I’m Kirito.”
He was never very good with words, and Kirito was mentally criticizing himself for not communicating with people before. I’ll definitely get better at this once I get out of here. Well, if I get out of here.
