Millennia ago,
when the gods still walked alongside us,
the first war for the sacred golden triangles took place.
A goddess, cloaked in white, wielding her divine wisdom like a mighty sword, tasked with guarding those triangles.
A demon king, boasting of incomprehensible strength and a will stronger than steel, who desired their power.
The demon king's siege on the land of the goddess was relentless, choking the life out of each and every corner.
The goddess, her back to the wall, turned to an old friend for help...
Now this friend of the goddess was quite the accomplished warrior himself.
He was hailed for vanquishing a powerful entity that terrorized another world.
His strength of spirit unmatched, the mortals revered him as a fierce deity.
Sensing the danger of letting the demon king go on unchallenged, he agreed to help his dear friend...
One by one they traveled to the far reaches of the land, driving the demon king's army back more and more with each step.
With the demon king now backed into a corner, the three engaged in a fearsome battle.
Then the demon king, greatly weakened, was sealed away with the goddess' divine power. They had done it! They had won!
But that victory did not come without great sacrifice...
As the only one remaining, the goddess set about restoring balance to the world.
Deeply mourning the loss of her companion, the grief-stricken goddess withdrew from her people,
with a quiet vow to protect the land from the shadows....

Like Real People Do
(Hylia/Fierce Deity) (SFE)
The inky blue of the evening sky seemed to boast even more brilliant stars than usual across the land of Hylia; the roar of the late summer heat now a faint whimper. On that night, in a village safely tucked behind a dense forest, a small festival took place. The chattering of cicadas echoed throughout as the villagers danced and sang under a string of softly colored lights, hung hours before in anticipation. Several tables boasting a colorful array of roasted pheasant, seasonal vegetables and sweets sat neatly in rows of three. A small statue of the goddess Hylia was nestled in the middle of it all, sporting a crown woven with peonies and marigolds.
Little did they know that goddess was observing their little get-together from afar, alongside her companion.
Perched on a cliff, feet dangling over the edge, the two sat together as they quietly observed the spectacle below. Eventually, Hylia spoke.
"What do you suppose they're talking about?"
The towering figure beside her remained silent for a few moments before he spoke, his profile illuminated by the pale moonlight. "Hopefully they are talking about the coming winter and how to prepare for it. They do not seem ready at all."
Hylia snorted, "I meant the cicadas, Kishin."
"......The...cicadas."
Hylia could almost feel his brow furrowing in confusion as she leaned forward, "Well it is their mating season, so-"
Kishin barked out a small laugh, a rare smile cracking through his usually stony features. "That seems like a private matter, and definitely not something I would like to know." He turned to her and smirked "But tell me, what do you think they are saying?"
Hylia tapped her chin in mock thought, "Hmmm.... Maybe something along the lines of "Come to me! Love me! Never leave me!"
As she said it, Hylia raised the pitch of her voice and dramatically gestured with her hands, causing Kishin to burst out laughing.
"Ah of course!" he cackled as Hylia dissolved into a fit of giggles herself.
As the fearsome god of war, Kishin took his duties very seriously; but tonight, his usual silver armor was exchanged for a pale blue tunic. Ever stoic and solemn, it was unlike him to be so relaxed. While Hylia admired his strength and steadfastness, she couldn't help but take joy in seeing her dear friend at ease for once.
Eventually their laughter died down and they resumed their watch of the village festivities. While things were starting to die down, there were still some couples dancing together. They gleefully spun across the small stretch of grass, hands tightly clasped together. Hylia couldn't help but be mesmerized by them, which didn't go unnoticed by Kishin.
As their goddess who swore to protect them at any cost, Hylia held considerable affection for the mortals and their various customs. She guarded them, as well as the land itself, with a ferocity unlike any other. Kishin admired her greatly for her unending devotion and compassion.
Not that he could ever vocalize it.
"How wonderful! We get to see the Lover's Waltz!" Hylia said with a soft, dreamy smile.
"....Lover's Waltz?"
"It's mostly done at celebrations, primarily weddings; in fact, it's often the first dance that a newly married pair does at their reception."
"I see." Kishin said softly. He remained quiet for a moment before he spoke again, "Have you ever...danced like that before with someone?"
Hylia gave a small chuckle at his query. "Ah, unfortunately no. I'm not one for dancing."
"The way you move on the battlefield suggests otherwise."
"Oh that's different and you know it! Hylia dismissively waved her hand, blushing inwardly at his compliment. "As precious as Fi is to me, a sword is hardly a passable dance partner...... How about you?"
"I have not." Kishin stated matter-of-factly.
"....I see."
The two sat in silence, listening to the wind as it effortlessly glided through the trees behind them. Suddenly, Hylia stood up and extended her hand towards her still-seated companion. Curiosity glinted in Kishin's eyes as he looked at her.
"Care to dance?" Hylia said with a smile.
Kishin blinked, "Come again?"
"I think we should try it! Dance with me!"
"Do not be ridiculous. I will probably just trip all over you."
Hylia placed a hand on his shoulder before he could turn away. "You really think I'll fair any better? Who's really being ridiculous here?"
Hylia once again offered her hand to him. With a smile and a shake of the head, Kishin rose to his feet and faced her, "Alright fine, but let us move inward; I would rather we not tumble off this cliff in the process." He reached out and took her hand in his, calluses meeting calluses.
Hand-in-hand, the two made their way to a nearby clearing, where fireflies danced amongst the flora and the moonlight seemed to shine even brighter than before. Once they reached the middle, Hylia began her instruction.
"I'll wrap my hand around yours. Now wrap your other arm around me. A little higher. Good! Now my hand goes on your shoulder...."
"Are you sure this is right?"
"Of course I am!" Hylia's golden eyes met his stark white, causing her to pause and revel in the closeness of their bodies. Fighting against the blessed butterflies that now fluttered relentlessly in her chest, she continued:
"Now you take one step forward and I'll take one back. To the side. Back together. Again! Foward. Side. Together. Once more! Foward. Side. Together. Annnd that's it! Those are the basic steps; we just repeat them."
Kishin let out a breathless laugh as they broke apart, smiling brighter than even the most dazzling of stars, "Hah! That was not to bad!"
Hylia grinned, shooting her own beams of light back at him, "I knew you'd be a fast learner! Well done!"
"Why thank you. I had a good teacher." This time he was the one to extend his hand to her, "Shall we continue?"
"But of course!"

All That Was Lost
(Post-BotW/Pre-TotK Zelink) (SFE) (Potentially Mild Angst)
Part 1
It was yet another beautiful and quiet day in Hateno Village; the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, Link was out hunting, and Zelda was chasing a hightail lizard that made the potentially lethal decision of wandering into her and Link's house.
"Gotcha!" Zelda cheered as she snatched the wriggling reptile before it could dare to escape through the slits between the floorboards, "Now what will we do with you? Would you like to star in an elixir for Link? Yes? Spendid!"
She started over to the stove when she suddenly tripped and sprawled out onto the floor below, loosening her grip on the lizard. All she could do was watch as it triumphantly skittered back to freedom through the crack in the doorway
"Damn it!"
Zelda gritted her teeth in annoyance and turned her head to see that the culprit was none other than a raised floorboard.
"Bah! I've been meaning to nail that back down."
She scrambled to her feet and made her way to the little pseudo room under the stairs that they used as a utility closet. "Now where is that tool box of ours? I know it's here somewhere....Ah!" Zelda triumphantly pulled out a small and rectangular metal box that was painted bright red. She then made her way over to the offending floorboard and knelt down, setting the box beside her.
"Hm?"
There was something down there. Her brow knitting together, Zelda cautiously lifted the floorboard to get a better look.
Underneath was a wooden box, only slightly smaller than the one next to her. It was old, but clearly well-made with quality materials.
"How long has this been here?" Zelda pondered to herself, "Did it belong to the previous owners?"
Little splotches of paint could be seen underneath the thick layer of dust coating every surface. A four-letter word, a name, was neatly carved into the smooth grain of it's lid, the dust long settled into the crevices.
"Fara...." Zelda said out loud, letting the name settle in the air around her.
Wiping off the box best she could with a nearby hand towel, Zelda set it on the dining table; the raised floorboard was now the last thing on her mind as it raced with questions and possibilities.
"Who is Fara? Why did they hide this here? What could've possibly been so important? Could it be a precious family heirloom? Letters from a loved one?? Oh goddess, some horrible secret they locked away???? A severed finger taken from their mortal enemy?!?!?!?!"
She shook her head in an attempt to clear her thoughts, "Oh don't be ridiculous. The only way to know for sure is to open it!"
Zelda tentatively lifted the lid of the box, breathing a sigh of relief when she saw no dismembered body parts within or evil spirits flying out of it.
"We've had enough of those for this lifetime."

Written in Blood
(Post-Twilight Princess Zelink) (SFE)
"Hyrule is not a kingdom of honor."
Link blinked, attempting to process Zelda's words as he stared up at her, dressed in full royal regalia, long chestnut brown hair neatly braided and fastened in place by her crown, gloved hands folded neatly in front of her. The light from a large crack in the ceiling glaringly bounced off the paldrons weighing on Zelda's shoulders, threatening to blind him.
And yet, he refused to looked away.
"There is no hope or prosperity to be found here."
She began to slowly glide towards him, her ice-blue eyes never leaving his aquamarine.
"The horrors that threatened us were tempered by our very own hands. They will always return."
Zelda stopped in front of Link, mere inches away, and placed a hand on his cheek. Her thumb gently ran over the very prominent scar upon it. His mouth went dry.
He didn't look away.
"There is nothing but pain and suffering to be had here." she said, clearly but quietly. "I must remain and atone for the sins I inherited," she hesitantly began to draw her hand away, "but you shouldn't have to. You can still go home, and leave this cursed kingdom behind for good."
Before she could fully withdraw, Link grabbed her hand with a ferocity that shocked the both of them, their eyes as wide as saucers. In a soft, clear voice, Link finally spoke.
"I'm not leaving."

The Crěpe Calamity
(Post TotK Zelink) (SFE)
Link's eyes fluttered open to the chattering of crickets in the quiet early morning hours; the sun had yet to rise over the quaint Hateno home. He blinked slowly as he registered the lack of a warm body next to him. His heart sank as he wondered if Zelda's return really was just a dream.
The fear quickly dissipated when he heard a loud clatter coming from downstairs, followed by an all too familiar voice muttering a string of curses.
Link smiled to himself as began to get up, mentally preparing himself to face the horrors of leaving his princess to her own devices in the kitchen.
Risen to his feet, Link stealthily crept past their nightstand and peered over the bannister to the room below, pots and pans scattered every which way, a smattering of cooking utensils slathered in batter, bowls upon bowls of wildberries covering every available surface, and, in the middle of it all, the crown princess of Hyrule coated in a fine layer of flour. The creaking of the floorboards caught Zelda's attention as she whirled around, emerald eyes meeting cornflower blue. In that moment, her scowl turned into a smile that made Link's heart skip a few beats.
"Oh Link! You're already up!"
Zelda dusted her hands on the apron she wore over her pajamas, which consisted of Link's old champions tunic and a pair of shorts, and attempted to wipe the flour off her flushed cheeks, smearing it even more.
"I hope I didn't wake you." she said sheepishly, "Those pans just toppled over without warning and.....well..." she gestured to the pile on the floor with an apologetic smile.
Link let out a little laugh and shook his head, "It's fine. Don't worry about it." He began to descend the stairs, "What the heck are you doing up at this hour anyways?"
"I'm making you breakfast! You mentioned craving wildberry crěpes."
Link's eyes widened "Breakfast? For me? Wildberry crěpes!?" he exaggeratedly furrowed his brow and he leaned forward with a mock whisper, "It's not my birthday again is it?"
Zelda giggled, "No silly! Your birthday's not for another two months."
"Right! Just checking." Link said with a grin.
"It's just that you're always letting me sleep in and making me breakfast every morning," suddenly bashful, she looked away, "and I....wanted...to...return the favor..."
Link's eyes softened, "Zelda, that's very sweet of you, but you don't have to do all this for me. You know I'm more than happy to cook for us."
Zelda's head snapped back towards him with an unexpected fire in her eyes, "I know that," she insisted, "but I want to!"
Link smirked, "Even though you had to get up well before the ass-crack of dawn to do so?" Zelda blinked in surprise before bursting out laughing. Link's smile widened, "Just how long have you been up for anyways?"
Quickly collecting herself, Zelda breezily replied, "Oh I've only been up for an hour."
Link raised an eyebrow, "Zelda."
Zelda cleared her throat, "Well maybe it's closer to two hours.."
"Zelda.."
".....two and a half?"
Link's eyes narrowed and she finally buckled, "Ok fine! I've been up since midnight."
".....Zel...."
"I know!" her eyes squeezed shut and her nose did that adorable little scrunch, "I was just so excited and I couldn't sleep so I thought I could make a few trial runs so I could get it perfect but the first batch turned out goddess awful and the second one burned and don't even get me started on the third...."
Trailing off, Zelda opened one eye back up to see that Link's stern look had dissolved into barely concealed amusement. She sighed and ran a hand through her short blonde hair, "I really didn't expect this recipe to be that hard..."
Link quickly closed the distance between them and gently caressed her cheek, his thumb brushing off the excess flour upon it. Her green eyes widened, completely transfixed on his. "Tell you what," he said, "I've made this dish a thousand times. Let me help you."
Zelda leaned into his touch and covered his hand with hers, smiling sweetly, "Are you sure you don't mind? You can still return to bed if you really want."
"Nah." he said with a grin. "Besides, you know I don't fall back asleep that easily."
An agreement reached, the two broke apart and immediately set to work. Any utensils and bowls that somehow managed to evade Zelda's "trial runs" were quickly utilized as the they spun around each other gathering whatever ingredients remained and mixing them together. Link took up the mantle of "Master Griddler" (his words) and doled out the batter on the scorching-hot surface of the stovetop. Once cooked to perfection, Zelda was tasked with filling the crěpes with fresh wildberries and jam, folding and arranging them neatly on two plates. After successful assembly, she garnished them with more wildberries, whipped cream, and, per Link's recommendation, a drizzle of courser bee honey.
"You've been up for hours. You're gonna need the energy!"
The dish now completed, Link and Zelda sat down to enjoy the fruits of their labor along with two cups of hastily brewed sundelion tea. The light and tender sweetness of the crěpes paired with the aromatic tartness of the wildberry jam were made all the more irresistible with the addition of fresh cream and honey; their plates were cleaned within minutes.
"Delicious!" Zelda exclaimed, "They turned out perfect!" Link nodded emphatically.
The first trickle of sunlight caught Link's eye as he peered over Zelda's shoulder to the little window above her head. "Ah, daybreak already?" he stretched his arms over his head yawned. "Wanna go watch the sun rise?"
"That sounds lovely, Link!" Zelda said with another one of her trademark smiles.
Bellies full and cups of tea refreshed, the two lovebirds shuffled out the door with the quilt from their bed to help ward off the morning chill. The sky was streaked with vibrant pinks, purples, and oranges as the sun began its ascent into the skies above the now-stirring village. They made themselves comfortable in their two-person rocking chair, a custom-made welcome home present from Bolson, and snuggled together; the comfortable silence would occasionally be permeated by sips of tea.
They vowed to clean up the mess they left behind............later.
