UNCHARTED PT.1

Many a man fumbled from beaten path

To this jungle of Nature's wrath

I heard villagers mumbling as I took the pass

Damning my destination and If looks could lash

My back would bulge with lacerations…

In the heart of Peru

With my seasoned guide

Amaru;

In broken English he confides,

“If I were you

I’d turn and hide from Jungles Innards

Mr. Spencer”

I nod and grin, heart set on treasure within

Spanish pesetas bloodied by treacherous sin

The tale of conquest and riches begins

With Colonel Ortega and his bloodthirsty men

How they ravaged and pillaged across what then,

Was uncharted lands where fortune was kin

To adventure and lasting legacy

They marched forth beheading the leaders of clans

Chopping the hands from woman and man

To make all others understand their plunder

Was a soul’s blunder to covet or keep

How lifeblood seeped into harrowed nations

Spaniards deems ripe for the taking

Ortega carried with him a bustling sum

Of pesetas to trade for Peruvian Rum

King Charles had requested with regal gumption

It is most historian’s assumption

Ortega was overcome by united clansmen

Never returning to his armada

But before he gave up the ghost

The Colonel buried one million pesetas

So here I am, Thorn Spencer, treasure hunter extraordinaire

Risking life & limb for coin as if death had issued solemn dare

Amaru & I use machetes to slice a path displayed on ancient map

That came into my possession without toil or aggression

An occupational mishap

I vow to capitalize, the sight of my eyes

Clouded by wanderlust and greed

The vines & the snakes, all the perils of this place

Have me unphased - Fortune the only future seen…

Day 32 - Grimness now in view

Askew from optimism of past

Amaru backtracked for more supplies

It’s been weeks since I’ve seen him last….

I wander and scavenge as the mighty jungle begins to ravage

How I roast snakes like the starving savage I am.

Goddamn Ortega and his men. Damn their pesetas

And their sins.

Now the only treasure I aim to win is Home…
