Thought this was an interesting piece - mainly because it was interesting to me after it had been processed by a couple of other folks as well.

The Creator of Dilbert, on Skill
Chris Guillebeau recently noted on his blog that value is “a combination of skills and deliverables that make your work unique.” He drew this quote from Scott Adams, the creator of the popular comic strip “Dilbert,” to flesh out the thought:
“It’s unlikely that any average student can develop a world-class skill in one particular area. But it’s easy to learn how to do several different things fairly well.
I succeeded as a cartoonist with negligible art talent, some basic writing skills, an ordinary sense of humor and a bit of experience in the business world. The “Dilbert” comic is a combination of all four skills. The world has plenty of better artists, smarter writers, funnier humorists and more experienced business people. The rare part is that each of those modest skills is collected in one person. That’s how value is created.”

Following on from my introduction post about museums and Pinterest, I’ve browsed through all the boards of all the 30+ museums I’d found so far, and here are some specific examples of how museums are using Pinterest.

Saw this post on John Hodgman's tumblr, and having seen the movie, I liked his sentiment. It was a good movie - not great, but I hope more folks see it and like it and give it a chance to inspire on some new level.
youtube
I don’t know where I was when I missed this fan-made trailer for the movie currently titled:
“JOHN CARTER, Secretly of Mars, but only SECRETLY! Because Some People Do Not Like Science Fiction, and Maybe They Will Be Tricked Into Thinking That The Four-Armed Green Creatures We Show Them In The Trailer Are Actually Football Players In A New Secret Season of Friday Night Lights in Which Everyone Dresses Up Like Aliens but Are DEFINITELY NOT NERDS.”
In any case, this is a movie which, for many reasons, I want very much to like. And now, for the first time thanks to this fan-made trailer, I REALLY REALLY DO.
BUT THEN, what do I know about movie marketing? I am just a nerd who was going to see it anyway, right? Except for the fact that the official marketing seemed so embarrassed and ashamed of itsself that I actually managed to FORGET it was made by Andrew Stanton and Michael Chabon and very nearly blew it off.
But instead, I am going to see it tonight, and I am even LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
I hope I like it. I HOPE WE ALL DO.
That is all.

Filter Mania 2.0 for iPhone is coming, and I just signed up to be among the first to try it out!
... and I feel kinda oily after clicking through on something and basically tooting my own filter horn to be a part of the initial offering. I do it on Twitter and Facebook, too - but chose the Tumblr option this time so I could still participate but feel better about having my own say in the matter as well.
If I do it and then complain about it, is that hypocritical, or is it honest? Hmm.

Love this picture - great squared shapes, great perspective lines. Love the shades, the shadows, the greys and darks. Very cool photograph - had to re-post.

Really appreciate insights into how other folks do their jobs, what motivates certain decisions. Following this tumblr below, looking forward to seeing how things play out.
There came a certain point during our last day of shooting that I realized, WOW, we have something here. During the insanity of shooting, I have learned that everything is about trust; trust your actors, your crew, most importantly- trust yourself and vision.
During the shoot I found myself...

For me, this is one of those movies/stories that I'm anticipating will "sneak up on me" and be a wonderful experience all around. Probably won't get into the comics before the film, but really like the imagery here to bring in some of the artistic qualities of where it's going.
All that to say, this looks like it's going to be good, y'all.
