Down Over The Under 2007 Track Of Choice: Nothing In Return (Walk Away) Back to the working grindstone today. So after a long ass day I need a little stoner metal to bring me back to earth. And what better band to go with than NOLA's finest supergroup Down. Now, let's get the Anselmo shaped elephant out of the room first. He has been a massive prick for years. His comments have been fully discussed and he's apologised. That being said I know some will disapprove of this being played. But I believe it being able to enjoy the art while criticising the artist. Now on to the band. Down have three albums to their name and they are all excellent. Their debut in particular is a sluggish and woozy affair. The second wasn't quite as stoned or as improvised but has some wicked riffs. But for me they nailed a sound and feel here that is perfect. @metalhammeruk gave it a full 10 out of 10 when reviewed as well. From opener Three Sun's And One Star through N.O.D to On March The Saints to the closing salvo of Pillamyd, In Thrall Of It All and my personal favourite Nothing In Return this album flows beautifully. The riffs groove with power and languid drawl, the drums are powerful and sparse when needed and Anselmo is on fire. His drawl is rough and gravelly but at times tuneful and beautifully passionate. This album still knocks me sideways. It's a superb record that showed just how special this band could be. One of the best metal albums of the 00s. Maybe ever. It's certainly @down_nola best album in my opinion. #BathTimeRecord #CD #CDJunkie #MusicCollection #CDCollecter #CompactDisc #AlbumArt #CoverArt #Analogue #OldSchool #LongPlayer #NowSpinning #NowPlaying #Albums #InstaCD #InstaMusic #CDOfTheDay #RecordOfTheDay #AlbumOfTheDay #Down #OverTheUnder #2007 #Metal #StonerMetal #Sludge #Doom #NOLA (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJogthrsEZO/?igshid=oxn4rp17r599

Jessie Frye Kiss Me In The Rain 2020 Track Of Choice: No Sleep So here is the first "new" purchase that arrived over the Christmas period. I ordered this months ago so it took some time to get here but I'm massively pleased with it. Of course, as is the way with these things, I order the CD and suddenly there is a vinyl reissue. Never mind. I first heard of @jessiefryemusic through YouTube and her collaboration with @iamtimecop1983 on the track Faded Memory. Then I heard Fantasy and I was enraptured. So I had to get hold of an album. Which I had to wait sometime for. But all good things come to those who wait. Kiss Me In The Rain is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It's simple Synthwave Pop. Or Retrowave Pop. There is no hidden agenda. It's verse, chorus, verse. Simple hooks. And sweet and sexy vocals. There is no deep Shakespearian lyrics that require a degree to decode. What ya hear is what ya get. And therein lies It's power. To begin with you'll enjoy the simplicity but after a short time these songs will weld themselves to your mind. Especially the above mentioned Fantasy and Faded Memory. But other highlights have to be Malibu Broken feat @olliewride and my personal favourite No Sleep. At only 40 minutes in length this album doesn't out stay it's welcome either. What is does do is it infects you. And leaves you wanting more. So you press play again. And again. One of my musical highlights of 2020. #BathTimeRecord #CD #CDJunkie #MusicCollection #CDCollecter #CompactDisc #AlbumArt #CoverArt #Analogue #OldSchool #LongPlayer #NowSpinning #NowPlaying #Albums #InstaCD #InstaMusic #CDOfTheDay #RecordOfTheDay #AlbumOfTheDay #JessieFrye #KissMeInTheRain #2020 #Pop #Synthpop #Synthwave #RetroWave (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJi3wpMM0GH/?igshid=1oqi4h44vs3ra

Madvillain Madvillainy 2004 Track Of Choice: Raid feat M.E.D. aka Medaphoar Welcome to 2021. New year, lots of new records to play from Christmas but yesterday was also the day that the death of MF Doom was announced. And there was no way I was letting that go by without saying something. And playing something. I can't profess to be a huge fan of Doom. I've only been listening to his music on and off for a few years now but his talent was without question. As you dig into the history of hip hop you start to hear this phrase "The MCs favourite MC" and that's what MF Doom was. One of the greatest MCs ever. This album is a collaboration between Madlib on beats and Doom on vocals. And it's wild and weird and chopped together. Soul samples, looped beats and bass, odd sound bites and that smooth but worn and wise voice. It's rightly regarded as one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time. So this one for MF DOOM. Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Number One. My Album Of The Year. Paradise Lost — Obsidian // As a long time fan I've stopped expecting anything less than greatness from these Yorkshire legends. At this point in their 30 plus year career they could drop decent but average albums and everyone would be fine with that. Instead, the band drop possibly their best album. This is expansive Gothic Metal taking in every facet of their sound to date. Goth, Doom, Doom Death and even those so called "Depeche Mode" elements. Strings, acoustics and pianos accent the heavy as lead riffs and beautifully miserable dripping leads. The drums are expressive and the vocals range from the guttural to the sublime. 16 albums in Paradise Lost have no right to release an album this damn good. It's by far one of the bands best albums. And it's album of the year for me. Easy. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #BathTimeRecordsAlbumOf2020 #BathTimeRecordAlbumOfTheYear #ParadiseLost #Obsidian (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJde7Yms9c6/?igshid=ia9tyn0bcwyj

Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Part 11. 10. Svalbard — When I Die, Will I Get Better? // Post Hardcore and Metal crossed with Dreampop and Shoegaze on an album that is remarkably energetic, political, heavy and emotional. 9. Clipping — Visions Of Bodies Being Burned // Alternative Hip Hop genius doesn't get better than this. Scathing Industrial Noise soundscapes with one of the best rappers to walk the earth over the top. Scary and exhilarating stuff. 8. Havukruunu — Uinuos Syömein Sota // Epic and melodious Black Metal from Finland. The rush of excitement I get when this comes on is amazing. This is how all Metal should make you feel. 7. Enter Shikari — Nothing Is True And Everything Is Possible // Electro Post Hardcore band Enter Shikari balance their sound so well here. Pop, Trance synths, Metal riffs, political lyrics, orchestral strings, horns and sing-a-long anthems for 2020. I want to see these songs live. 6. Atavist — III: Absolution // There are only four tracks on this come back album from this Manchester Sludgy Funeral Doom Metal band. But the added Post Rock vibes and sparse synths make this deeply affecting. Crushingly heavy but extraordinary at the same time. 5. Code Orange — Underneath // Hardcore and Industrial fuse together to make something new and vital. This is the next wave of modern heavy music. It's incredible and is going to consume us all. 4. Katatonia — City Burials // Heavy and progressive Gothic Metal with spine tingling melodies and epic riffs. The quality on show here is incredible. Their best album in 20 years. 3. Greg Puciato — Child Soldier: Creator Of God // Everything I wanted from the former Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist. Apart from being joined by a series of drummers this is all his own work. Every facet is covered from soulful Synthpop to Industrial Metal and everything in between. Joyous. 2. Jessie Ware — What's Your Pleasure? // The best pure Pop album of the year has struck my mind like a lightning bolt. Synthpop and Disco vibes plus simple classic Pop song writing give you a set of tracks that are so addictive. I'm hooked and happy to be that way. Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Part 10. 19. Deftones — Ohms // Alt Metal superstars Deftones return with a perfect fusion of the more triphoppy vibes of Gore and the titanic riffs of old. Brilliant. 18. Seeming — The Birdwatches Guide To Atrocity // Staggeringly unique Synthpop / New Wave with deep resonant vocals. The melancholic power of this album is extraordinary. 17. Jessie Frye — Kiss Me In The Rain // Retro Synthwave Pop songs from this Texan chanteuse. These songs have found a way under my skin. Perfect sing-a-long retro tunes. 16. ESA — Burial 10 // The balance between the Industrial Noise and the more mainstream sounds is astonishing. Then there is the bravery that is Heavy Is The Head. Jamie is carving out his own legendary place in Industrial music history here. Astounding. 15. Promenade Cinema — Exit Guides // Noire Synthpop? Noirepop? Is that even a genre? It is now because Promenade Cinema have crafted an album of beautifully realised light and shade. 14. Deathwhite — Grave Image // Progressive Death Doom. Awesome riffs, elegant melody and the ability to ride a riff to heaven. Helps that they can smash out a hook laden chorus too. 13. Palm Reader — Sleepless // Post Hardcore, Post Rock and Prog Metal smash up against each other and produce an album I'm certain I'll be listening to for the rest of my life. A stunning record from these guys from Nottingham. 11. Creeper — Sex, Death & The Infinite Void // Glam Cabaret Gothic Rock n Roll sounds like it would be horrible. Creeper prove otherwise. Catchy and smooth and simply awesome. This band should be superstars. 11. Winterfylleth — The Reckoning Dawn // The UK's best Black Metal band roar back into heavy action after their Old English folk detour. But they've added so much more dynamics to their sound now that they are an unstoppable force of nature. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #Deftones #Ohms #Seeming #TheBirdWatchersGuideToAtrocity #JessieFrye #KissMeInTheRain #ESA #Burial10 #PromenadeCinema #ExitGuides #Deathwhite #GraveImage #Svalbard #WhenIDieWillIGetBetter #Creeper #SexDeathAndTheInfiniteVoid #Winterfylleth #TheReckoningDawn (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYQZHZMqF_/?igshid=4z5fr8zv0r0

Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Part 9. 28. Run The Jewels — RTJ4 // The world was falling apart already and then there was the death of George Floyd. Then, in what seemed like perfect timing, Run The Jewels dropped this. Epic, brilliant, important and timely Hip Hop. 27. Jeremy Inkel — Hijacker // Posthumous release from the Industrial music legend. Techno, IDM and Industrial form a wonderful seething and pulsing album that shows Jeremy was a genius. RIP. 26. Pallbearer — Forgotten Days // Wow. Doom Metal that has so much weight to it yet is also so full of lightness despite the lyrical offerings. So good. 25. Ulver — Flowers Of Evil // Melancholic and deeply emotional Synthpop from former Black Metal band. Couldn't believe what I was hearing at first and it gets better with every listen. 24. AA Williams — Forever Blue // More melancholic misery from singer song writer Williams. Brooding at times but always wonderfully crushing and cathartic and beautiful. 23. Enslaved — Utgard // Expressive, expansive and progressive Post Black Metal from one of the second waves best bands. They just keep getting better. 22. Georgia — Seeking Thrills // Alt Pop debut album from the daughter of music legend Neil Barnes (Leftfield) shows that genius runs in the family. Well crafted Synthpop songs don't get better than this. 21. Caspian — On Circles // Sky scrapping Post Rock that makes life slow down and seem all the more vibrant. Remarkable. 20. Blaqk Audio — Beneath The Black Palms // AFI main men Davey Havok and Jade Pudget continue to make excellent Synthpop. Every track here is so catchy. Brilliant. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #RunTheJewels #RTJ4 #JeremyInkle #Hijacker #Pallbearer #ForgottenDays #Ulver #FlowersOfEvil #AAWilliams #ForeverBlue #Enslaved #Utgard #Georgia #SeekingThrills #Caspian #OnCircles #BlaqkAudio #BeneathTheBlackPalms (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJVgd6qsxGZ/?igshid=c7fcvq1abo

Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Part 8. 37. Elephant Tree — Habits // Shoegaze and Dreampop influenced Doom Metal? Should sound like a mess. Instead, it sounds utterly glorious. 36. Jonsi — Shiver // Sigur Ros main man Jonsi adds IDM and Electronica to his substantial artistic bag of tricks. And its very good indeed. 35. Deadlife — City Of Eternal Rain // Harder edged Synthwave or Retrowave or Darksynth, whatever it is you want to call it. Exceptional Electronica with atmosphere and attitude. 34. Pvris — Use Me // Post Pop Punk with a New Wave vibe filtered through modern Pop and it is a great listen end to end. Lynn Gunn continues to be an inspiration. 33. Lamb Of God — Lamb Of God // Lamb Of God have swung back into action with perhaps their best album. Savage Metal built for the pit. 32. My Dying Bride — The Ghost Of Orion // Come back album from Yorkshire Doom Death overlords. Misery never sounded as heavy, beautiful or as elegant. 31. Anaal Nathrakh — Endarkment // The fury is shocking. So is the melody. So is the epic and expansive production. Superb extreme metal for the end times. 30. Poppy — I Disagree // Disorientating metallic Pop music. The love child of Baby Metal, Brittney Spears and Marilyn Manson. Wonderfully deranged. 29. Killer Be Killed — Reluctant Hero // Metal super group show the world their debut was no accident. Three unique vocals, brilliant riffs and neck snapping rhythms. Stupendous. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #ElephantTree #Habits #Jonsi #Shiver #Deadlife #CityOfEternalRain #Pvris #UseMe #LambOfGod #MyDyingBride #TheGhostOfOrion #AnaalNathrakh #Endarkment #Poppy #IDisagree #KillerBeKilled #ReluctantHero (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJS8_38ML2q/?igshid=1l0brh82ivevb

Bath Time Records Albums Of 2020. Part 5. 64. Trivium — What The Dead Men Say // The bands best album since In Waves (maybe ever). Hard and heavy at times but with a modern Thrash melody that begs belief. 63. Myrkur — Folkesange // Warm and cozy Danish folk music that is so simple but so affecting. Shedding the Black Metal elements has worked wonders for Amalie Bruun. 62. The Weeknd — After Hours // The biggest Pop album of the year with the biggest Pop song of the year on it. Inescapable. 61. Jonathan Hulten — Chants From Another Place // Beguiling and beautiful camp fire folk music from a surprising musical source. Gothic Black Metal. Who knew? Beautiful. 60. HMLTD — West Of Eden // Post Punk, Gothic Rock, Indie and alternative music have a love in with the modern kinks of Electronica. Strange but such a good debut album. 59. Nimon — Black Clouds And New Arrivals // My friend Keef Bakers best Ambient album yet. Massive deep lakes of sounds to get lost in. Stunning stuff. 58. Fires In The Distance — Echoes From Deep November // Debut album from US Death Doom band. Damn the riffs and melody on show are great. But it's the use of keys and electronics here that make this special. 57. Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou — May Our Chambers Be Full // Remarkable melancholic tinged Sludge Metal collaboration. 56. The Midnight — Monsters // One of Synthwaves biggest bands continue to make brilliant nostalgic alternative Pop with some excellently crafted tunes. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #Trivium #WhatTheDeadMenSay #Myrkur #Folkesange #TheWeeknd #AfterHours #JonathanHulten #ChantsFromAnotherPlace #HMLTD #WestOfEden #Nimon #BlackCloudsAndNewArrivals #FiresInTheDistance #EchosFromDeepNovember #EmmaRuthRundle #Thou #MayOurChambersBeFull #TheMidnight #Monster (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJLaKi3sXfS/?igshid=1gywenlaw0kea

Today is the start of the mammoth Bath Time Record's Top 100 Albums Of 2020. It's been a shitty year. But not for recorded music. The greatest creation of human kind has been our saving grace this year. And my list this time out is more varied than ever. With Pop music making some serious in roads into my listening habits. So let's start at 100. All vinyl and CD posts suspended. 1 post per day for the next 12 days. 100. Duma — Duma // Is it metal? Is it Grindcore? Is it Industrial Noise? Whatever it is it's fascinating and intense. 99. Loathe — I Let It In And It Took Everything // Alternative Metal of the best kind. Heavy, intense and expansive. Melodious and biting. 98. Kelly Lee Owens — Inner Song // Strange but moving Techno Pop. At times calm, at times pulsing and at times euphoric. 97. Autoclav1.1 — Nothing Outside // Excellently tuneful and beautiful IDM. Sounds absolutely brilliant in headphones. 96. Eminem — Music To Be Murdered By // The best album he has made in over 15 years. Witty, insightful and at times harrowing. 95. Naglfar — Cerecloth // Blasting bestial Black Metal with Gothic overtones and savage vocals. 94.Carpenter Brut — Blood Machines // Epic sound tracking by the king of Synthwave for the cult sci-fi movie of the same name. 93.Doves — The Universal Want // Northern Indie mavericks return with a superb album of impresive soulful Indie. 92.Faithless — All Blessed // Even without Maxi Jazz Faithless carve out a stunning and epic dance album of the highest highs and trance inducing lows. #BathTimeRecord #AlbumsOfTheYear #AlbumsOf2020 #Duma #Loathe #ILetItInAndItTookEverything #KellyLeeOwens #InnerSong #Autoclav1point1 #NothingOutside #Eminem #MusicToBeMurderedBy #Naglfar #Cercloth #CarpenterBrut #BloodMachines #Doves #TheUniversalWant #Faithless #AllBlessed (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJA6-xjM63h/?igshid=17arft2caxwhl
