SOMEWHERE IN IRELAND 1964
Wandering through memories of the past I came upon this pic tonight. Taken by my Dad, somewhere in Ireland in 1964, I had to share it with you because it shouldn’t just lie in a box forgotten anymore.
Dad was pretty proud of the camera he’d saved hard to buy; a 1961 Zeiss Ikon Colora camera, and couldn’t resist capturing this moment in time.
Does anyone recognise it or have any idea where in Ireland Dad took this photo?
Just before I closed the box I found another pic which must have been taken on the same day. The Aran sweaters, the whitewashed walls, and the little winding Irish road all have their own story to tell. These young men must be in their fifties or sixties by now then – I wonder where they are today…

1916 war cake recipe
1916 War Cake Recipe for a lightly fruited eggless cake, perfectly flavoured with ground cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.
The first time I looked at the recipe, I didn’t really fancy the look of it.
I looked at the neatly written date, May 1916, and thought what a sad story it evokes. I fervently wished that the world would never need a recipe like this again. The problem with it too was, what exactly did the writer mean by breakfast cups?The writer was Lily Beatty, of The Prospect Hotel in Moville, County Donegal.
