A/N: I’m IN LOVE with this headcanon and i have no clue why, it may very much be because I myself am trans and Fred is like my comfort character?? also these are just some head cannons :))

- He spent years in denial due to the discrimination

- When he figured himself out he spent a few weeks by himself due to how he felt because of it

- He constantly thought he was ‘broken’ and a ‘mistake’

- He most definitely couldn’t decide on a name and questioned every single one until Fred

- He had terrible dysmorphia, we had days where it completely drained him and he could barely do anything

- He was scared to tell anyone but it slipped out while he and Nancy were reporting

- Nancy most likely stayed silent making Fred feel a lot worse leading him to going home to scream into his pillow

- When he built up a little bit of confidence he got his hair cut and name changed

- He acted like Fred had always existed

- If he ever had comments made he would definitely go to the newspaper room (i cant remember the name :( ) ans sit in there for a while, especially when Nancy was there

- Not because he liked Nancy in THAT way

- Nancy was one of the most supportive people who knew about his ‘little secret’ she always listened and was extremely educated

Moral of the story: Fred was 100000% trans and Nancy and Fred could’ve been a superior duo :((

Being trans in Hawkins and the ’80s was hard on its own, let alone while in high school. Hawkins High was a brutal place and a hard place to be for someone like y/n, someone whos queer and trans. Nothing really went well for y/n in school, the bullying, the name calling, the deadnaming, and misgendering. Y/n never really liked anything about school, that was until one free period when he met the boy who would make his life worth something. Fred Benson. Fred was an awkward, quiet person but that's something y/n admired about him.

Two years from then Fred and Y/n were in a stable relationship and neither of them could wish for anything different. Their relationship was the most real relationship. As quiet and reserved as Fred was he was always open toward Y/n. Today was one of those days when y/n had to open up to Fred about their issues and how the day went

Today was most definitely the worst school day this year so far, I've gotten used to the bullying mainly but there are some days where it gets to me. Today was one of those days. 

The bell rings and my heart falls to the bottom of my stomach, walking through the corridors doesn't sound too bad to most people yet for me, it's the worst thing I need to do, the bullying is bad in the corridor, and I mean really bad.
