“They think we did it but they just can't prove it.”
“Well, no body, no crime.”
“Is that how it works?”
“It’s working pretty well for us.”
(the murder gays didn’t get that nickname for nothing)

cranberry red
Steve and Bucky were used to cold winters. They had to be, growing up in Brooklyn, growing up during the Depression. They survived quite a few winters they thought they wouldn’t- or at least that Bucky thought Steve wouldn’t, with his many ailments teaming up with the weather to take a toll on his small body.
One year, however, 1938, two years after they moved in together, they got a heater. It was cheap, an oil burner, but Bucky had saved up work money to get it and make the winters easier on him and his best friend.
But now it was 1941, and the heater was on its last legs. It was cheap to begin with, and Bucky hadn’t expected it to last long, but Christmas was soon, and the cold was only gonna get worse.
He came home from work one day to see Steve wrapped in a blanket on the couch, shivering as he busied himself with his sketchbook. Bucky could feel the extra chill in the air.
“Did we lose her?” Bucky asks, slipping off his boots and nodding his head towards the heater in the corner.
“Yeah,” Steve replies, not looking up from his drawing.
“Damn,” Bucky says, sitting down next to Steve. “We’re just gonna have to get a new one.”
“No,” Steve says, looking over at Bucky. “We barely have enough to cover rent as it is.”
Bucky rolls his eyes but he knows Steve’s right. Steve’s right a lot more than Bucky’s willing to admit. So he shrugs off his coat and places it around Steve’s body. It occurs to him that that’s something a guy would do for his best gal, and that a lot of what he does for Steve is stuff that a guy would do for his best gal. It’s just like that with them, though. It doesn’t mean anything. It can’t mean anything.
Bucky’s always told himself that, that he has to ignore it, has to push those feelings away. He just can’t feel that way about his best friend.
But Steve looks so good wrapped up in Bucky’s clothes, beautiful lips parted as he concentrates on his drawing. He looks so good, so sweet, so perfect, all soft skin and hard angles, things Bucky doesn’t wanna think about but can’t help it.
So he leans towards Steve and kisses the top of his head.
Heat rushes to Steve’s face, cranberry red cheeks, and he ducks down into his sketchbook.
“Are you blushing?” Bucky raises an eyebrow and nudges Steve with his elbow.
“No, it’s just cold,” Steve mutters.
Bucky grins, and rests his head on Steve’s bony shoulders. It can’t mean anything, sure, but it does.

Pre-serum Steve was goofy and awkward as hell, he gave Peggy a list of all the places he got beaten up for literally no reason. He just thought that was an okay thing to do.

Hi do u have a list of bottom!steve friendly blogs? there’s too many bottom bucky blogs and im sick of it
i always feel the need to clarify i’m strictly sub steve versus strictly bottom steve (although there’s definitely a lot of overlap between the two, i just personally don’t care about sexual positioning so much as the dynamics enough to be concerte on the former) BUT with that being said... @bottomstevelibrary is gonna be your go to holy grail for art and fics (but fair notice they do reblog a lot from accounts that probably aren’t what you want if you’re tired of what you said you’re tired of). @sunstarsteve is also good for her content and reblogs (her fics are 😁), @stevesnosebump is good for stuff up that alley that might not necessarily be sexual (babying steve like he deserves is a full time occupation, as is lifting up bucky), @fuckyeah-stucky is my personal sub steve bestie and is always willing to talk about him, @prettyboycap just got his new blog up and running but i know he’s equally enthused about bottom/sub cevans characters as i am, & @rustedbarnz has some bottom/subby steve fics on their ao3 as well! i’m sadly kind of floundering thinking of any other blogs who are what you’d be looking for (i’m picky about how people portray steve and bucky i know i KNOW! i also have the memory of a peanut so i might be forgetting someone obvious) but if anyone thinks they fit the bill or know anyone who does, feel free to rb or reply saying as much.
although my bookmarks will remain between me and god only, i’m not opposed to making a fic rec list at some point with a section of sub steve ones because god knows good sub steve fic is hard to come by...which should be a crime. i personally have a series called the sub steve book club i update every month with a new fic (i just finished this one’s the other day 😁) but i’m assuming you know that and that’s why you’re asking.
in any case...sub steve rights! steve rights in general! let’s all baby my younger partner youngest friend awkward baby! let’s give him a break from having to be in charge all the time! let’s give him room to breathe outside of the cap persona! he deserves all the love in the world. especially when it comes from bucky doing what they both know he does best.

can we please get some headcanons of steve and bucky dancing together throughout the years?☺️
oooh yes I love thisssssss I went a bit overboard so I’m putting it under the cut.
I give you “stucky and their love of dancing and jazz music”:
When they live together in the 30s Bucky always puts the radio on in the evenings when they’re relaxing. More often than not an upbeat jazz song will come on and Bucky who adores dancing will pull an endearingly hesitant Steve from where he’s drawing on their couch. They laugh and exaggerate the twists and turns but when the song changes, something slow like Billie Holiday’s “He’s Funny That Way” comes on and Bucky pulls Steve closer and they just sway. Steve rests his head on Bucky’s chest and Bucky presses his face into Steve’s hair. It’s moments like these they wish would never end.
After the night in the bar in London, they step outside into the cold air to take a walk. The door is ajar and the band inside starts playing Fred Astaire’s “The Way You Look Tonight” and Bucky drags an ever-unwilling Steve into the neighbouring alleyway where the music plays through an open window. Bucky, who has an alcohol-induced flush on his grinning face leads Steve in a slightly clumsy dance. When he attempts to spin Steve under his arm, they run into an issue - Steve’s face just smashes into Bucky’s forearm. They collapse into drunken giggles, Bucky on whiskey, Steve on the other hand is just drunk on happiness. “This was easier when you were smaller” Bucky says and Steve laughs and pulls him into a hug. They stay there for a while, taking advantage of the empty alleyway with music drifting through the window and savouring each other’s warmth.
They’re sitting in their apartment after returning to New York from Wakanda. Thanos is gone, there’s no threats on the horizon and for the first time in a long, long time, they can just be. Steve looks up from where he’s sketching on the couch and looks over at Bucky who’s just sitting looking out the window, quiet, the way he got sometimes. Steve knew by his expression that Bucky was having some unhappy thoughts, something they were both finally able to seek help for now. He gets up and goes over to his record player and pulls out a record that he knows will make Bucky smile. Once the music starts Steve sees the corners of Bucky’s mouth turn into a smile and Steve pulls him up and out of his dark cloud and for once, leads Bucky in a slow, sweet dance. Steve hums along with the song against Bucky’s hair, the sweet sound of Kitty Kallen’s “It’s Been a Long, Long Time” which neither of them got to hear until decades after its release. Bucky chuckles, “it really has been a long time, I’m not sure I remember the steps”. Steve pulls back and smiles at him, “neither do I, Bucky, but we’ve got a lifetime to figure them out, together,” he kisses Bucky softly on the lips and then spins him suddenly, earning a surprised laugh from Bucky. This is how they plan on spending their retirement.
Anon I’m so sorry this is so much more than you probably wanted ooooops but can you tell I love jazz? and dancing? and stucky? I couldn’t resist. Hope you like it!!
