honestly starting to think my chronic illnesesc are making my mental health worse. like now i just wanna kms so i don't have to feel like this anymore!! im bored!! im lonely and stressed!! and i need to go to school. i feel like shit this is awful 😭 but how do i go to school when i can't go more than 15min without using the bathroom?? my stomach hurts 😭 i keep feeling like i need to throw up. my final is today. and i can't stop using the bathroom!!

One of the most dangerous things in the world is not being able to say no to people because you don't want to upset them or dissapoint them. This will completely ruin your life in every way possible, at work, in your private life, your sex life and your friendships. It's a way of removing your own consent in your own decisions and go against your wishes, it is always a crime against yourself. Let yourself have a say. Upsetting people is better than traumatizing yourself.

When someone has a chronic illness or is disabled and can't work, they say a few common things.

It must be nice to sit around all day/sleep all day.

I wish I could sit around all day and not work.

I wish I could sleep all the time.

They don't want to sleep as much as we have to. They'd feel sick and sluggish.

They don't want to sit around the house all day not doing anything. They'd be bored out of their fucking skull.

It's so unbelievably fucking frustrating, but there's a fundamental lack of understanding.

They liken our lives to a vacation, imagining that it's fun and relaxing and we can do whatever fun things we want to all the time.

In reality, it should be likened to an extended hospital stay. You can't do anything and you feel like shit.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.

It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).

Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.

One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911. My counselor once told me to make sure I wasn’t doing things to distract myself from the boredom rather than try to sate it. I feel its one of the most important things he ever said to me.

When I’m distracting myself from the boredom, I read or game excessively so I don’t feel the emptiness of boredom. It’s a short term thing, and it only staves the boredom as long as I’m doing the thing.

When I’m sating myself from the boredom, I pursue things I am genuinely interested in and so find myself feeling fulfilled and happier for a longer period of time. Even if I stop doing it temporarily, I don’t immediately fall apart as I would with the distraction.
