The episode "Dreamcatcher" was simply amazing. Isa is really an angel. She makes me think of her grandfather like Elena who looks more like Luisa. The song was just wonderful! But why ... why don't you ever let Esteban speak? !! It's precisely by constantly denying it without even listening to it that it gets worse. If Elena had listened to Esteban from the start, I do not think that would have happened. Although he briefly explained himself during his trial, it was not enough. Esteban still has things to clear up, but unfortunately, I fear that this time he leaves his family behind him ... until the next rebound

brilliant wow analysis !! I would never see this painting again in the same way

In your magic within reaction thread, you said "That painting really is a bit of powerful storytelling." How so? I keep seeing people reference the powerfulness of the painting, and I don't think I understand its narrative significance. Explain?

Hurray, a chance to actually make use of my arts degree!

So interesting tidbit; if I’m not mistaken when the series first started airing, there was an exhibtion set up to celebrate with production and promotional art that this painting featured in.  That could mean it was a piece of development art made to explore and establish the story….or it’s just a production asset that they where particularly proud of. Though for reasons I can see and will explain now.

So composition tid bit. If you put individual objects together in an image, the human eye will group and read it as one large object. This can be used in visual storytelling to portray a lot of individual things or people as one unit. 

You can see this in the painting.

The family is clustered together, and standing in height orner so the eyes smoothly read downward….until you pass Isabel and hit Esteban. Esteban is pretty tall but is placed on the edge besides the shortest memer of the family. Your eye breaks away and has to look up again. He’s not a part of the unit.

Even if they don’t know how, a lot of people will be able to tell that this feels off. This isn’t a mistake on the part of the artist. There is a visual disruption in the composition of the painting that signals the in-story disruption between the family, the fallout of which will lead to the main set up of the show.To emphasise this, here’s a quick edit I threw together.

I’ve put Esteban amongst his abuelos, a fitting place for his height (and also his official place in the family).

As you can see, in this edit he is a part of the unit. The disruption is lacking.

Another more subtle element is the composition of values (light or darkness of a color).

•The Castillo-Flores family, especially the girls have the lightest value. They pop out first.•Then there are Francisco and Luisa, who have lower (darker) values. However the strong shadows on them are blocky. This creates contrast with the lighter areas and again, pop those bright areas out out. •Esteban has the highest area of low values. Apart from the neckchief, he lacks the bright accessories and trimings that have lighter value and draw the eye. If you look at the lower right half of the painting he literally blends into the background. Even his face lacks the strong contrast of shadow and light that would push his features out.

Again this visually signals that this guy is less important than the rest. 

Narrative wise know that’s not true, but if Esteban wanted to explain why he felt so left out, he could probably have pointed at this painting because that is the story it tells.Heck, look at where he is standing in the painting. The entire family is standing shoulder to shoulder, except for Esteban whose standing ever so slightly behind them.

The episode "Captain Mateo" was pretty good. Good momentum between Gabe and Mateo, good decision to put Doñia Paloma on the board, ... Elena makes me more and more afraid! His emotions only aggravate things, because that's why Esteban now has powers. In addition, I noticed something.

Elena and Esteban have both fallen into the same well and yet they don't have the same power. It looks like they each have power that goes with their personality. Indeed, Elena is a very emotional person who reacts very strongly to everything that happens to her. It's logical that his power refers to this. For Esteban, it's a little more subtle. I thought of this desire to escape things, to that cowardly side. Faced with a situation, he escapes and therefore has the power of teleportation. I don't know if it's a report but why not.

Regarding his new look, I would have prefered see him with another outfit but these little details are already good. Did you notice that her scarf, that of Elena's mother, had disappeared? By cons her hair... a useless detail that doesn't make sense to me.

I think Esteban is being dragged into a path he does not want and I'm sure he'll eventually rebel against Ash when he's in control of his new power, especially now that Ash no longer has any.

Analysis 2. "The magic within" Spoiler

There we hit the bottom. That Esteban flee is one thing, but that he releases the Delgados? I tried to analyze this behavior worthy of a season 1 of Esteban. And even if I think that the scenario has ruined its development, it will have to be done.

Then, as he has said many times before, he hates being dictated to him. He can not stand the orders and that since his adolescence. So imagine, force him to go to an island, far from everything. Not only does he reach his pride, but in addition, it is always a choice that is not his. He lost his family, something he was terrified of. His nightmare is realized. He lost everything so why stay there to accept a destiny he did not choose? No, Esteban can no longer be dictated, he can not accept being reduced to exile status, but he has nothing left to lose, so he leaves. That would be limited to that, Esteban could have been forgotten, but here he aggravates his case by releasing the Delgados.

Esteban is cowardly, it's more to demonstrate. Although he has made progress by recognizing his mistakes more quickly, he remains a frustrated and proud man who has fought against reality.

He resumes his bad habits. He lets his frustration dictate his behavior, he lets himself be manipulated. The question I ask myself is: what would he have done without the Delagos? Where would he have gone? Now he's stuck with Ash, he's going to be trapped on a path he should not have taken. Besides, we see perfectly, and always, his cowardice when he escaped with Ash. He thinks he has no choice, he submits to authority to save his life. But how will he finish? I have 3 hypotheses on this subject:

-Ash and him will form a duet. They are teamed because as much as they are manipulative. They both showed it. Each has been helpful to the other in his own interest. So there is a way that Ash can not completely supplant him

-Esteban will serve Ash as Shuriki. This is also very likely given the hold she has already exerted on him twice. Esteban can relive what he has lived for 41 years without being able to get out.

-Esteban will rebel and betray Ash by seizing what she is looking for. No longer wanting to obey others, he will look for ways to take power alone

In the end, 2 solutions are possible. Esteban will fall into his error and become a potential enemy or he will repent and get forgiveness from his family. But in any case, I think death is written on his forehead. Indeed, if he becomes an enemy, Elena will be forced to fight him to a tragic end. On the other hand, and as so well explained @commandervisor the only way for Esteban to be forgiven for all his mistakes would be a sacrifice that will save Avalor and his family. So, in any case, Esteban would eventually die. But @commandervisor raised a point I had not thought of: Elena's new powers that have the gift of giving life could lead to a resurrection.

This episode really upset me. I did not expect it and even if some things displeased me more than others, I have hope for the future.

Analysis.1 "The magic within" Spoiler

That's it, I watched "The magic inside". I will not go through four ways, I was disappointed. And not only for Esteban, although, of course, it plays a lot. I found some good elements, but overall, I'm puzzled. I am just going to explain the points that have retained my intention as well as some hypothesis.

What's more horrible than combining the revelation of Esteban's terrible secret with the party he loves most? Frankly, we want to cry. All her little attentions, Luisa taking her cheeks, Isa taking her hands, the recognition they all have for him, not to mention this famous saying "It's true," nothing was left to chance. Esteban is far from suspecting that what he is going through is certainly the last time. And to see that when you know what he is waiting for is even more heartbreaking and horrible.

Ash wanted to get a very powerful and dangerous power. In the end, Elena owns them. And if the real danger was not Elena? Her emotions provoke sometimes dangerous reactions. And more Elena is a very emotional person and extremely impulsive.

Am I the only one who really likes Doñia Paloma's idea? Frankly, I find it even more festive than Carmen's proposal. And I must confess that she had me a lot of fun during her little song. By cons I would have loved to see her during revelation of Esteban for to see her reaction.

If there is anything that made me angry in this episode, it's Flo. But what is this lama for ?! Apart from provoking Esteban's revelation, this thing brings nothing with his insupportable voice and useless reflections.I already had to fight against boredom with the Jaquins, so there ... Not a fan at all, sorry

The worst moment of all: THE REVELATION. A bit short in my opinion. Everything was so fast. What disappointed me the most is this flashback. I thought there would be more, a longer time to really see Esteban in the situation and finally understand why he did it. There, I still haven't understood. Even when he tries to explain himself, I don't understand. Even if he felt invisible, how can he believe that by helping a witch to conquer the kingdom, he will get recognition from his loved ones ?! It should have been deeper, a flashback where we see it lonely, where we see it suffer as it claims. I had also imagined a song from Esteban where he will try to justify himself with interventions from his family. It would have been ... a bomb. But there nothing. His judgment was too fast.

Moreover, exile him on an island, frankly. I do not know how long Victor has been in prison and his own cousin, we send him directly to an island. I think even if they are all shocked, it was not the right decision to make. The grand council was not proportional either. With two strong characters (Luisa and Elena), a sage (Fransisco) and a neutral (Naomi), Esteban had no chance. It would have been necessary either to let him spend some time in prison and to return later to his situation, or exile him but not on an island, it was much too much.

I understand your reaction perfectly. I have not seen the episode yet, but I have read the detailed summary and am totally horrified. I do not understand why, as you point out, Esteban falls this way. He had made so much progress that he continued to regret ... no, frankly, I agree, it should not have been that way. There is a problem. I'm really scared for the future, but so much. I think that at the point where things are, a redemption of Esteban will not be possible anymore and it's really a shame

Okay… that’s it.

First they make an episode where the characters they created are acting out of character, and believe me I can tell.

I watch the show three times through in a row and focused on the characters, on how the talk, walk, how they react to certain situations, their dynamics with others and relations with everyone, their personalities, designs, how they act when certain people enter or leave. I watched and analyzed EVERYTHING about every single character I saw within the show until I knew them perfectly so that when I wrote my fanfictions, I could portray in a way that was true to their characters and who they are.

Then the creators of this show, the creators of the backstories, the plot, the characters, their designs, and every small detail that has to do with these people, they mess it up. They give us an episode that shows two of the secondary mains acting out of character toward others, towards each other, and even acting out of character towards themselves.

Then to make everything worse they do this to us now… with Esteban. He was always one of my favorite characters and after watching that special… I’m not happy, not sad, I’m just empty. My mind is racing, my stomach and head physically hurt, it just… wasn’t him. Esteban knew the pain the others were feeling, he understood why they would not forgive him and he wuld never do that to his familia again, so to have him double cross them AGAIN is out of character as well and just not right. Esteban would have never teamed up with the Delgados because he learned his lesson with Shuriki and he regrets it everyday. To be true to his character, he would have either faced his punishment, or left the Delgados to help save his familia when he realized they were in trouble because that’s just who he is… and the creators got it wrong. They made these characters and for two fantastic seasons they showed us the depths of these characters, their weaknesses and strengths, what scares them and the deepest emotions that are within their hearts. Then all of a sudden it’s like they no longer know what they’re doing. I’m do with season 3, until they can remember who these characters truly are and how to portray them correctly instead of having them suddenly acting out of character and not like themselves, then I’m done. I’m just done.

I couldn’t sleep last night because my mind was racing from just the past few episodes and what had happened and how awfully they had done on this third season. They only mains that they’re actually getting right currently is Elena, Mateo, and Isabel. Even Luisa wouldn’t have been that hard on Esteban because she knows the pain he’s gone through, loosing his parents and fading into the background. She isn’t a stupid woman, she would have picked up on this stuff and been able to tell Esteban was not happy during those times and so I feel, and know, that she would not have been that hard on him truthfully.

I’m going to continue The Sealed Legend, but know that in mine, the events of season 3 don’t exist, not until the directors and creators can get their acts together. And if this makes you angry, then ok, you don’t have to read my stories, you don’t need to follow my Tumblr, you have your own opinions as well and this is me sharing mine.

I’m gonna go lay down now and try to get my mind to calm down at least a bit… though I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
