Red Dwarf 30 Day Challenge Redux: Day 27 🥪 Rimsy or Listy?
“It's you - this sandwich, Lister, is you. You're wrong, right? All your ingredients are wrong. You're slobby, you've got no sense of discipline, you're the only man ever to get his money back from the Odour Eater people, but people like you, don't you see? That's why you're a fried egg, chili, chutney sandwich.”
I must've first watched Red Dwarf at a formative age. What I mean by this is, the Lister/Rimmer dynamic seems to have imprinted on me in such a way that, whenever I see characters with a similar dynamic, my brain gives me a Rimster alert. This amuses me because the basic dynamic of "laid back character VS highly strung character" is well-worn, especially in comedy, and certainly didn't originate with Red Dwarf. Still, I'll be watching something completely unrelated in content and tone... like Les Misérables (1978 in this context, which I forgive for its flaws on account of the fact they cast Anthony Perkins as Javert) and it'll occur to me that Jean Valjean and Javert have a bit of a Lister/Rimmer thing going on...
Which brings me to the question: has the Red Dwarf fandom ever considered some kind of crack Les Mis AU? I have literally no idea how anything would fit, it's just my Rimster sense got activated.
