So please comment/reblog this if you're a creator who makes fics, art, memes, shitposts or any other form of media for any desi fandom. I want to find and support more fan content creators!!! Also mention the fandom(s) you make posts for!

Kundhavai: *Here we go again* Now what you should do when you go in front of ArunMozhi?
Vaanathi: I will try to flirt with him.
Kundhavai: Good. Now what you should not do?
Vaanathi: *trying to process the answer*
Kundhavai: *expecting her to say something*
Vaanathi: Should not faint before the Prince
Kundhavai: Good! now go and do what I taught you.
Vaanathi prays and walks toward Arunmozhi
ArunMozhi: *Smiles seeing her*
Vaanathi: *Operation command: FAINT*
ArunMozhi: *Watched worriedly as she faints*
Kundhavai: *Whispers* I am never getting a sister-in-law.
Tumblr media
Kundhavai: *trying to teach and import all her flirting skills to Vaanathi.* Vaanthi: *trying to stay awake.*

An Oath fulfilled |Vanathi × Ponniyin Selvan
      It was a quiet, silent Night. The city of Thanjai was getting ready to sleep. It has been 6 weeks since Sendhan Ammudhan's death. The throne was widowed within a night. With no Chakravarti to rule the place, the whole chola kingdom faced quite a threat from other kingdoms. Everyone knew that Ponniyin Selvan would ascend the throne sooner or later. It was inevitable and everyone knew it. The whole palace had started preparations for the coronation. Everyone seemed to be in the festive mood, exept the person who was about to get coronated.
      Arulmozhi knew that one day he will ascend the throne. At first he didn't even had many problems with it, but now, it seemed impossible for him to do so. 13 years back, when he was to be coronated, he had faced a problem similar to his current one. Vanathi and her her oath.
      He wanted to deny the fact that she had taken the oath, but he just couldn't. He wanted her to stay with him till his last breath. He wanted to hold hands with her even at an old age. He wanted to close his eyes with her face infront of him, giving him the last goodbye, and not the way around. He wanted her.
      Yet, he found himself catching her fall after she fainted between a pooja 1-2 weeks ago. Yet he found himself tending to her high fever. Yet he found himself holding her hair as she vomited like there was no tomorrow. Yet he found himself comforting and cuddling her as she shivered from a non existent cold. Yet he found himself listening to the Vaidya say that she was getting nearer to see Vaikuntha (heaven). Yet he found himself being comforted by his Akka and Vanthyathevan as he cried like a baby after hearing the news.
      Yet he found himself alone in their chambers with her . The night was quite and chill. Arulmozhi was laying beside Vanathi as she slept. His strong hands running through her now weakened and frailed hair. He hated how she looked right now. Her skin was almost sticked to her bones. Her usual bright doe eyes were sulking. Her hair were withered. And what he hated the most was, how sick she looked. He hated seeing her in pain, but he wasn't ready to let her go yet. A bit selfish? Yes. But she was just too precious for him. She was his brain, she was his heart. She was his soul. She was in every breath he took. She was a part of him. Inseparable.
      He was shaken out of his thoughts when he felt her stire beneath him. He quickly but cautiously pulled out his hand from her hair, as if she were a really fragile piece of glass.
      Vanathi slowly opened her eyes. She felt someone was there beside her and looked over. There she saw her husband, her Ponniyin Selvan, her yaanai paagan beside her. He had a serious and... What was it? Sad expression of his face. She knew that he knew, and he knew that she knew. And since today morning she had been feeling that weird feeling far more strongly that it had in many days. She knew that her time was almost finished.
      She looked at him, studying his face. His beautiful face, the same one she had fallen so hard for. But right now, there was something glistening around his eyes and cheeks. Then she understood, he had been crying. For her. Because of her actually.  She felt bad for this.
   "Swami-" Vanathi croaked out. Even slight talking was starting to feel like a big task to her. Arulmozhi quickly grabbed the glass which had her drinking water in it and he slowly made her sit a bit with his other hand, and started to feed her water little by little.
      After she was done drinking, she quitly asked him.
   "Swami.. Why are there tears on your cheeks? She asked in a low voice
   " Tears? -" Arulmozhi hadn't even realized that he had started to cry. He quickly wiped them away but Vanathi stoped him and tried to do it herself.
   "It's actually nothing chellam, I wasn't crying" He started.
   "Swami, I know that I am not actually able to think properly right now, but, I do know when you are sad" She said. He looked at her more intensely after this. What had he done to deserve her?
      "Aay.. Forget it, look what I got you few hours back." He pointed at the table beside her. It was a flock of Kodupul flowers. These flowers had always been the symbol of their love. He had gotten then for her in all of their milestones as a couple, or when he had gotten a bit too romantic.
   "Kodupul? " She smiled a bit saying this. Remembering all those beautiful times. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Arulmozhi was quick to notice it.
      "Kanne, why are you crying? " He asked slowly tilting her head towards his.
   "It's nothing" She said. But she didn't wipe it. She didn't think that she had enough strength remaining for that. Amv took her hands into his own.
   "Tell me, please. Don't hide what you are thinking, please. " He said with plea written all over his face.
   "It's just... I was thinking of all our memories which are tied with this flower." She said. Her tone was getting lower and lower. He smiled at the thought. She continued. But it was evident that talking was getting harder for her. Yet she wasn't stopping. It seemed like she sense that this was going to be it.
   "How many times you bought these for me... One time you even climbed a tree right? Just to give me these before our wedding. Our every single moment was tied with this flower in one way or another. Till now. It was great wasn't it? " She said while looking at him. More tears were forming under her eyes.
   "Haan- wait- was great? Dear, we are going to have those moments again. We just have to wait till your sickness goes away! Look! you are improving! There is no need to say anything like this Chellam! " He said. Vanathi smiled sadly at this statement.
   "Natha, I think we both know that I don't have much time left-"
   "Don't say anything like that! You are going to recover. I know it!" Amv interrupted her.
   "Natha, there is a thin line between what we want and the facts-"
   "Vanu-"
   "No! Let me finish. I have been wanting to tell you this Swami from a few days. I heard what the Vaidhya said. And I am also feeling myself slipping away. Initially I was scared of the very thought of leaving you. I want to stay with you for an eternity. I really do. B-"
   "You can Vanathi, You can! Please listen to me,-" He took her hand in both of his palms "-I can't live without you! I want to listen to your laughter, I want to see your eyes in mine, I want to hold hands with you like this, I just... Just want you Chellam! " His voice croaked at the last word. Why was this happening to them, why was this happening to her! Why does parmeshawara opt to take the bestest of people first along with them! Why?
      "Swami, pleased don't make this difficult for me, I also don't want to die, but it is fate swami, fate! And I have also taken the oath-"
   "To hell with your oath! I don't care about your oath Vanathi! I. Just. Care. About. You!! And the very thought of you- yo- not-" He fully broke down. His head bended down in defeat and rested on their hands. He wasn't able to comprehend this fact. He knew that she was telling the truth, but it. was. just. too. much!
    Vanathi's heart broke down seeing this. She didn't wanted to die, but she knew that her life was going to be short the day she took the oath. So she had excepted this fact long ago, and used to cherish every single moment she had with him. Today morning when her Akka had visited her ( she used to be there in the morning and he used to be there for her at night time. ) she was also holding back her tears. Vanthyatevan had also been there and he was already in the crying state.
   "Swami.. " She gently kept her free palm on his cheeks, forcing him to look at her.
   "We can't do anything about the oath, and I knew that this day was going to come. But now, I will have to take my leave-" She said breaking down a bit herself. Arulmozhi quickly stoped her by placing one of his hand on her mouth.
   "Please don't say anything like this Vanathi. Please. We are supposed to get old together! And what about Madhu! He needs a mother. We were supposed to see his marriage together! When he first goes to battle, when he will be crowned the next prince, when he will become the chakravarti, whe were supposed to see all this together Priye! " After listening to this Vanathi grabbed his hand pulled it down. And said quietly.
   "Do you really think that I will leave you that easily Swami? I will always stand with you, whether I am there or not. I will always look for your back, be there with you. And in the end we will meet again right? I will always wait for you Natha" She said with a weak smile. Arulmozhi just looked at her. Impressed by how greatly she was handling it.
      He then took her completely in his arms so that one of her hand rested on his heart and his on her shoulders. One of both their arms were interlocked together. They were looking at each other. Comfortable in their positions.
      He was comforted by the fact that she will at last be free of all of her pains. All he wanted now was for her to be happy. He quickly pecked her and looked at her with an expression which can only depict love, sadness, excepted fact, and adoration.
   "I love and will always love you my Vanu" He said just after giving her a deep kiss.
      This was all she wanted to hear. This is what made her heart free of every burden, worry and questions she was carrying. Her family will be okay. She will meet him again in few decades and she was sure about it.
   "I love you, My Yaanai Paagan.. " She said in a soft voice. She knew she only had a few moments left. All of her energy was drained.
      He looked at her peaceful expression as she closed her eyes. Her last thought being of him. The last thing she saw, was him. Her last breath was of his name. Her heart beated for the last time with only him in it. She was his, and she will always be his. For an eternity.
      He stared at her lifeless body. Tears building up in his throat. His Vanu, his Kadhal, his Chellam, his Kadambur illavarasi was gone. He held her more closely. He bought her shoulders close to him and kissed her forehead.
   "Vanu, you not only did just leave me, but you also took my peace, my love, my brain, my heart, the half of me, my soul with you Kanne. You took a big part of me with you chellam, you did. " He said hugging her close. She had left him to deal with this world alone, without her love, without her enchanting doe eyes, without her laughter, without.... Her. He had no one now to come home back too. She had taken his life away along with her.
_Epilogue_
Kundavai came rushing into the room after hearing the noises. Only to find the scene which shattered her heart beyond anything. Vanthyatevan came rushing behind her, just in time to catch her as she fell down crying. Her sweet best friend, her thozhi, his maya kanan had left them.
The night was filled with cries as Amv's other 2 wives were crying too. They also loved their Akka. Madhu's cries were the loudest, as he had lost his mother at the tender age of 12.
Arulmozhi didn't make any sound, but his grief made the loudest sound. He and his Akka, after some time, we're only starting into the abyss. Vanthyatevan was trying to console Kundavai but Arulmozhi had no one.
He was the one who had given fire to her. The whole country was in awe and shock... For the queen had completed her oath, but at the cost of her life. After persistent requests from his Akka, he did proceed with the coronation. He did it 'cause he knew that this is what his Vanathi wanted. His other queen sat on the throne with him, but in his heart, Vanathi was the only queen he ever lived for.

Aga naga - An example of soft, soothing love.
youtube
This song is the epitome of soft, slow love. The love which kind of just makes way into your heart without you knowing. The love which paints your cheeks red in the slightest of moments. It makes your heart sway. It makes your heart get peaceful, but at the same time it makes it yearn for more. It makes you have goosebumps on the tiniest of touches. The kind of love which makes you smile like a madman, makes you forget your composure, makes you forget your surroundings.
This song is the mixture of all these emotions. It makes you feel all of these emotions at once. It will definitely make you close your eyes and just get lost in it's warmth.
You can witness Vanthyathevan and Kundavai's journey by just listening to it. This is the power of this song. And yes we cannot forget the beautiful lyrics, Shakthisree's enchanting voice and the heart warming bgm.
I mean, I don't have a lover, but this song has always made my heart go to some places.
What is your experience with this song?

I am not going to tell him! | VV × Kundavai
      "For once will you listen!" Kundavai shouted at her husband. They have been fighting like this for almost half an hour now, the quarrel had started over a simple thing, Vanthyathevan used to snore a lot while he used to sleep. And considering the both had adjoining chambers (Sharing the same wall) and sometimes she used to sleep in his chamber, we can say that...... It was getting hard for her to get a peaceful sleep. But then, it had escalated at a fearfully higher rate. They had been married for the past two years and when the love starts to age, you start to love and trust each other more and more (other than a few exceptions). And when you start to love and trust each other more, you start to tell each other what was bothering one about the other. The same thing had happened to them, but now, it was getting nasty.
   "Will I listen! I always listen to you!-" Vanthyathevan fumed, clearly upset by her words. "-To the point that I have stoped thinking anything myself!" He shouted back at her. If you showed a person, who didn't knew who they were, their quarrel, made him listen to all the words they were throwing at each other, he won't ever beleive that this was the most romantic couple the palace held.
   " Really! I think it was you, wasn't it, who asked for my hand in marriage? So, if you had SOo many problems with me, why on earth, did you wanted to marry me in the first place!" Kundavai said in a sarcastic tone.
   "Are you being serious right now?-" Vanthyathevan was having a really hard time handling her for the past few weeks, she had been more moody and unpredictable than the sea "- Do I really need to answer this? We Both know how much we have done to be together right?"
   "Off course I do! And you still remember that? I thought that your brain won't be able to remember or process it! Considering you always forget your shawl on your chair. I thought that u have a memory worse than an ant!" Kundavai spat sarcasticly. This infuriating Vanthyathevan even more.
   "Atleast I don't go around conspiring against my siblings! And considering you have such an ExCeLLeNt memory, do I need to remind you that it was because of YOu your Anna didn't stepped inside Thanjai after YoU separated Lady Nandini and him!"
      There was a painfull and calm before the storm kind of silence in the room. He had said those words. Vanthyathevan never ever hurted his loved ones, especially his Ilaya piratti. But he had said the world's which were now shredding Kundavai's heart slowly. She never once in her life thought that he would say anything like this to her, infact, he was the last person she thought who would blame her for this reason. Her eyes slowly started to brim with tears.
      Vanthyathevan regretted what he had said the second the words left his mouth. And he was regretting them even more when he saw her eyes starting to brim with bitter, salty, tears. She looked at him in horror as she kept her palms on her mouth to stop any kind of noise and started to run away from the room. Vanthyathevan tried to follow her, different apologies coming out of his mouth, but none of them worked. She had slammed the door shut from outside.
      Kundavai kept running through different corridors until she reached the balcony which overlooked the palace. It was quite secluded too, so no one would be able to see hear here. Tears started running down her cheeks like a waterfall. She felt broken from inside. More and more salty tears started to spill, marking their trails on her beautiful face. Just then a hand rested on her shoulders.
      She was quick to realise that this hand wasn't of her Vanthyathevan, but of her thambi. She wasn't much fond of crying or showing her week side in front of him, as she was his mental support. But when she felt his reassuring hand rest on her shoulders, she became more emotional and started to cry even louder.
   "Akka .." he called her in a soothing tone. He pulled her around with the hand which was on her shoulders. The broken look on her face made his heart shatter. He knew that she had been having a hard time for the past few months with.... Let's not mention it. She hadn't told him herself, but he had his doubts. He quickly pulled her close to him and held her in a tight hug. He held her close as she wept over his shoulder. Vanathi was there, but she stood a bit away.
      "How did you know that I was here thambi?" She asked. He voice was hoarse from all that crying.
_AMV's Pov_
_Flashback_
      Arulmozhi and Vanathi were sitting in their room, hurdled together. They were scared, yes, they had been able to hear their Akka's and Vanthyathevan's angry voices here in their chamber. The palace was almost empty at this time. Only a Few soldiers, few trusted servants and these 2 couples (along with madhu) were there, so no word of this argument was going to get out, but their voices were the reason why they were scared. Some of the words were audible but some were just mumbling.
      After a while, they heard Vanthyathevan shout out, and then a pin drop silence followed it. They knew that something has happened, something big. Then they heard Vanthyathevan's voice calling out their Akka. The voice sounded broken, guilty, devastated even. And then a loud bang which sounded like someone had closed a door with the strength of a few hundred elephants. Hearing this, AMV shot out of the diwan and quickly started to look around different corridors.
      And there she was, the Ilaya piratti, his powerful Akka, in a teary mess. It had broken his heart to see her like this. He hated to admit it, but he wanted to rip VV limb to limb, even though he was his bestest friend. But he could never love anyone more than his Akka, and just forgive someone who had hurt her this bad? Nope.
_3rd Person P.O.V_
      After Kundavai had stabilized a little, they offered her to take her to her own room, but she had refused. So they decided to take her to their own. Vanathi had joined them in middle of Kundavai's rant on what her husband was saying.
      Arulmozhi was... Shocked, to say the least. He never thought that Vanthyathevan would ever say something like this. That to, to his akka!! He was fuming with rage and pity and sadness. He was just thinking on what to do with Vanthyar when Kundavai suddenly jolted, and ran towards the nearest balcony opening which had nothing other than closely potted, cramped together plants under it and emptied out all of the morning breakfast.
      Vanathi quickly ran towards Kundavai, grabbed the hair and jewellery which were yet to come under the path of the vomit in a second and started to rub circles on her back. Arulmozhi ran to get some water for her.
      After she was done, they sat Kundavai down on a seating area nearby, and Amv offered her the jug. She drank the water with shaking hands. That's when Vanathi asked,
   "Akka fo you really think that this is fine? This is your 6th time vomiting in this week! " This confused Arulmozhi. Why on earth was his Akka vomiting so much?
   "Akka! 6 times! Maybe we should go see the vaidya... I don't think that this is normal... " Amv started, his face filled with worry.
   " Aaiyo no re... I know what it is, no need to go to the vaidya... " Kundavai started
   "No nnee?  No need! How can you say that Akka! Have you seen yourself lately? Your condition is worrying me Akka.... And a few months ago, you had been so painfully suck, you never tell me what happened but it worries me! Please... Let's go to the Vaidya" Arulmozhi said in a pleading tone.
   "Thambi, I am telling you, there is no need. I know what it is, so stop worrying. " She said in a calm but cold voice.
      Her tone scared Arulmozhi. She usually used this tone with him when she was trying to control her anger, etc.
   "What is it Akka? " He asked softly.
_Kundavai P. O. V_
      "What is it Akka? " These words of Amv were ringing in her ears. Could she really tell him? What if it is another false alarm? What if she lost it again like the last 2 times? She can tell her thambi, Right? But she wasn't even sure about it either....
      She knew that she was expecting.. Everything (symptoms) were pointing at it. She has had 2 miscarriages by now, so she was quite scared with this one. But then again, she knew that her thambi will always stand beside her. She knew what she was going to do.
_3rd person P. O. V_
      "The thing is, that... That.. You are most likely going to be a mama thambi" Her words were left hanging in the air as they both (Amv and Van) tried to register them.
   "Mama? Why on earth will I become a mama, Akka? How is it.. Oh.. Oh my.. Akka!!!! " He screamed in joy as he got up, his face lit up, more lit up than an candle actually. Vanathi was just sitting there with her hands covering her mouth.
      Kundavai managed to smile a bit as she saw her Thambi loosing his mind on the news. Vanathi then just took a hold of her hand and started to laugh- cry.
   "Akka! " Arulmozhi said suddenly while getting on his knees and taking her hands in his. (Vanathi had left them after he had knelt down)
   "Yes thambi? " She said lovingly, freeing her right palm to strike his cheek like a mother would.
   "Sorry to say this, but you do know right tht you are going to have to tell Vanthyar about this now? " He said. The thing was, Amv knew that his Akka was angry at him and will most likely not talk with Vanthyathevan for a few days to weeks.
   "Aae! I am not going to tell him!"

How can someone even write such a beautiful thing!!!
thunder caught in his rain clouds
Kundavai x Vandiyadevan
Exploring how Kundavai and Vandiyadevan cope with Aditha's death even as their relationship blossoms. Lots of grief, some kissing.
Night had fallen quickly, as it seemed to do since the death of her older brother. Days were spent in frenzied tasks, moving from one to the next. Nights, she spent awake, unable to close her eyes for even a moment thinking of everything that had led to the death of her brother; the incarceration of Vandiyadevan, the actions of her brother and Manimegalai, which now seemed heroic in the presence of her silence.
Vandiyadevan, who had been ready for his punishment, who had said he should be punished because he had failed to protect Aditha, failed to carry out her orders. He truly believed, that despite his best attempts he had failed. Her heart ached, when she remembered his bloodied face and his defeated voice. He had looked at her once during the farce of a trial, eyes filled with unshed tears, apologetic, that he had not fulfilled his promise to her. She had longed to take the dagger tucked into her hip, cut his ties, and comfort him. Hold his hands in hers, tuck his head against her neck and offer words of comfort. Tell him it was not his fault. Tell him all the things she had wanted to tell herself about this entire ordeal.
She never got the chance to, they had rushed off to fight. He had turned back, to look at her once, before he got onto to his horse. His eyes intent on her face, she had attempted a small smile, encouraging she had hoped. Not anxious, or fearful or terrified. Send off her younger brother, send off Vandiyadevan, her grandfather, her uncles, all to war again, even before the funeral pyre of her older brother had cooled?
The first time she had sent off her older brother to war, they had both been so young that there was nothing but pride in their parting. He had returned. He had gone back to war. He had returned, hurt, and wounded in more ways than one, but he had come back to them. Aditha Karikalan, the powerful Chola tiger, there was no man in all their lands who could defeat her brother. She had not known, that it would be possible to lose him to his own broken heart. Death had been distant for her, unlike Vanathi, who had known of this particular grief for as long as she had been alive. Kundavai was struck with the fear of more loss.
What would she do if any one of them had not returned from war? Where would all the words, all the love and all the worry she had for all them go? Where would she put them, just like she had struggled every morning since Aditha’s death, thinking of all the things that had been left unsaid between them.
When they came back, she decided, not if they came back, she would tell her grandfather how much she admired him and how she hoped she would grow to have the same energy as him. She would tell the Periya Velar how his daughter had grown from a timid teenager into a courageous woman, who always had the right words at the tip of her tongue. She would tell her brother, that she was proud of him, that whatever decision he took she would stand by him. That her hopes and dreams for him were great, but it did not surpass her love for him.
She would tell Vandiyadevan, that she had been enamoured by him from the first time she saw him, that he had slowly wormed his way into her heart with his wit, his stories, his loyalty, his unruly curly hair that seemed to have a mind of its own, his powerful arms that she had been awestruck by when he had thrown his spear at that stuffed crocodile. That smile of his, which always seemed to come straight from his heart, she wished she could spend hours just staring him while he laughed and spoke. How distraught she had been when she heard of Kandhamaran’s accusations against him, her heart in her mouth as she had waited for news of him from Elangai. Despite having the most unshakable confidence in him, that he would return, with her brother in tow. He was after all, Aditha’s friend. When she had seen him, blindfolded, and yelling into the void, she had not told him of all the many things she felt for him, merely alluded to his promise of being hers. She would have to tell him, that she was as much a prisoner in his heart, as he was in hers. That she was the golden moon, reaching down to with all her might to touch the many arms of the mighty ocean. That she was the thunder caught in his rain clouds, loudly announcing to the world that she had found her home.
Even as all these words swirled around in Kundavai’s head, she lapsed into frenzied work, sharing administrative responsibilities with both the chief minister and the head of the fort, working from one of the balconies overlooking the entrance to Tanjai’s fort, waiting for the scraps of news that came from the front. Vanathi had waited with her, her silence a blessing to Kundavai’s fraught thoughts.
Just as they lit the many lamps on the balcony, a messenger on horseback had sped through the gates, everyone had rushed down to the entrance. Kundavai held onto Vanathi’s hand, squeezing it tight as they waited for the man to alight. Both Aniruddha Brahmarayar and Chinna Pazhuvettarayar waited with them, faced marred with worry. Pazhuvettarayar had one hand on his sword, as though waiting, to jump onto a horse and rush off to the battlefield, but he did not have to, “Victory is ours, we have had many casualties, the wounded are being treated at camp and the rest of the army has been reassigned to guard the borders. Malayamaan and Periya Velar are making their way back with Ponniyin Selvan as we speak, they should reach in a few hours, I was sent on a fast horse to deliver the news.”
Vanathi had squeezed Kundavai’s hand, sharing in her elation and the tension of her news, why had there been no news of Vallavaraiyan?
The chief minister had turned to Kundavai, “Ilaya Piratti, shall we start making preparations for their return?” What he had left unsaid was, “do what you always do, occupy yourself.”
Kundavai found her voice, “of course, will you be going to inform the Chakravarthy? I shall get the rest of the lamps in fort lit and gather the women at the entrance while the servants prepare quarters for all the returning members of the family. Vanathi, will you take care of that?” Vanathi nodded, her an encouraging smile on her face, “keep hope, akka, he will return to you,” she whispered as she walked away.
She would try. The rock that was in her chest had barely moved, despite the good news.
.
.
.
From where she stood, waiting with her parents, she could see her grandfather, his horse trotting next to Velar’s. They crossed the threshold of the fort, showered with flowers and shouts of joy, the moon was bright in the sky but the fort had been lit with enough lamps that it outshone the cool light of the moon. Kundavai held her breath, behind them was her younger brother, her only brother now, a small voice at the back of her head whispered, and next to him, smiling but bloodied was the man she had kept prisoner in her heart. He had seen her, his smile had widened and her face had broken out into one too, even before she had felt the relief that surged through her.
.
.
.
A cool breeze blew through the city, as Kundavai had sneaked into Vandiyadevan’s rooms, waiting for him to return from his dip in the river to wash off the grim and dust of the battle field. She stood waiting by the window, her head turning as she heard him open the door, there he was standing with his hair wet and curly from his bath, slightly shocked at seeing her in his rooms.
He rubbed his eyes as little, “I must be exhausted, I’m seeing things” he muttered.
Kundavai laughed, walking up to him and taking his hand in hers, “No, I’m really here.”
Vandiyadevan looked even more shocked, “But Devi, at this time of night, in my chambers? Has something happened? Are you alright? Let me just get my sword and armour…” he trailed off as she continued to smile at him.
“I wanted to talk to you…and to see you…properly,” she said, the last bit in a whisper.
Vandiyadevan looked down at her, her hair was in loose braid snaking its way down her neck and over her shoulder, wearing plain white skirts that he assumed she usually slept in, no jewellery except small ruby earrings and the shining diamonds of her nose pins. He took in a deep breath, taking her other hand in his, guiding her to the seat by the window, she clearly had a lot on her mind, if she had broken every rule and protocol.
They sat facing each other, Kundavai looking down at their hands, “I also wanted to apologise…”
“You have nothing to apologise for…”
“No, no, I do. I stood by silently as you were bound in chains and accused of killing my brother. I said nothing, even though I knew the truth,” she closed her eyes, hold on his hands harder as tears slipped down her cheeks
Vandiyadevan entwined their fingers, “Ilavarasi, I failed in my duty to protect your brother, and I was willing to face whatever punishment your father bestowed on me. I failed you too, I had promised that I would look after him,” his voice cracking with emotion.
Kundavai, “But I should not have asked that of you, when we both knew that Aditha was willingly walking to his death. We knew, when he left the vihara, that it would be last time we saw him alive. We knew, and yet I asked you for the impossible.”
He nodded, “It would be very uncharacteristic of you Devi, if you not tried to stop the inevitable. It would have been beyond me, to do the same.”
She raised their entwined hands to her lips, kissing his fingers, “Thank you. For being with him at the end. I am sure he would have been happy to have you by his side.”
Vandiyadevan’s head dropped, suddenly overwhelmed by everything that had happened, “I could not believe it, I had been hit on the head and for a while I had hoped I was hallucinating. I cannot help remember the times I saw him alive, dancing, fighting, laughing. It had barely been a few weeks into my training when I encountered him, dancing, with the soldiers at the camp. Pouring drinks into their cups, beating drums to the tune of new songs. He was the life of the encampment.”
“He encouraged my ideas, sometimes even the slightly mad ones. Trained me to fight better, he was proud of me, even when I felt like I had nothing to be proud of. All that nonsense I sprout about being from the Vanar clan, I had never said those things before Karikalan had put them into words. I should have done more to protect him.”
Kundavai released one of her hands from him, using it to wipe away the tears streaming down his face, “He did not want to be protected. He rarely ever spoke of how the years of battle had taken a toll on him. How taking Veera Pandyan’s life had been eating away at him for years. His love for Nandini, that had never ceased, that turned into this battle between the two of them. He never said a word, but I had hoped he would put his duty before anything else. I had hoped, that his duty would save him.”
Vandiyadevan sunk into the feeling of her hand against his cheek, when was the last time someone’s touch had comforted him. Kundavai continued, “But his duty was never a comfort to him, like it was for me. Until I saw you in those chains, I wish I had put it aside, and come to your aid.”
He opened his eyes, “What would have been the outcome, Ilavarasi? It would have erupted in more accusations at both you and Ponniyin Selvan. You doing your duty, did not do any harm to me. There would have been too many questions to answer, if you had spoken for me.”
“I would have answered them.”
“What would you have said?”
“That you had promised me your life, and it was my decision on how to punish you.”
Vandiyadevan smiled, “How would you punish me?”
Kundavai smiled back, “By making you promise to use my given name, I have longed to hear you say it for days now.”
Vandiyadevan turned his face into her hand, giving her softest kiss, “That is more of a reward than a punishment, Kundavai.”
Her breath hitched; a blush stole its way across her face making Vandiyadevan smile wider, before he noticed how tired she looked, “Have you been sleeping at all, Kundavai?”
She shook her head, “Sleep has been most elusive, every time I close my eyes, I can only think of Aditha. If I somehow fall asleep, there have been some very scary nightmares,” she did not elaborate on them, and he did not want to ask her to relive them either.
Vandiyadevan did something he had only ever dreamed of, he pulled the princess closer, tucking her into his chest and wrapping his arms around her. Kundavai, used to being folded into hugs by her friends, slipped into his arms easily, letting the warmth of his body seep into her skin, her nose against his neck, taking in the smell of the river and the turmeric applied on his wounds. She should have been startled, never having been so close to a man before, but she was tired, and it had been a long day. Before she knew it, the steady thump of his heartbeat had lulled her to sleep. He stretched his legs out, pulling her closer, feeling her breath against his neck, relishing in the fact that he had survived all of those battles, to be able to hold this woman against him.
It was a little before dawn when his consciousness resurfaced, the dewy breeze announcing the arrival of the sun, but that had not been why he had woken up. Kundavai had been shaking, shivering in his arms, muttering under her breath, another nightmare he thought, before sitting up.
The sudden movement threw Kundavai out of her nightmare, and she opened her eyes, looking into the brown depths of Vandiyadevan’s eyes. She tightened her arms around his neck, and buried her face into his neck again, groaning slightly when she realised that even his presence could not drive away her nightmares, “Why is it so difficult?”
Vandiyadevan ran a hand through her hair, his chin against her head, “I miss him, I miss him every day. I will continue to miss him for as long as I live, just as I do my parents. Grief is constant Ilavarasi; we will learn to live with it.” Kundavai hummed, “There is so much I have to tell him about, I didn’t even get the chance to tell him about you.”
“He knew, that I would meet you and forever be held prisoner.”
“Did he?”
“It was always, when you meet Kundavai, never if you meet Kundavai.”
Kundavai laughed, “Was my brother a better matchmaker than I am?”
“I think I’m better than the both of you,” he huffed.
Kundavai looked at him incredulously, “Who have you tried to bring together?”
“No one yet! But when I do, it will not take as long as it did the both of you!”
Before Kundavai could answer, a soft knock on the door startled her out of his arms and behind the curtain. Vandiyadevan had but a second to miss her warmth before he opened the door to find an amused Vanathi, holding a small lamp in her hands, “Could you please return my akka to me before dawn breaks, Kamsamama?”
Vandiyadevan opened the door wider, a bashful grin spreading across his face, “I can’t promise not to steal her away again, mayakannan.”
Kundavai emerged from her hiding spot, “I trust you will be staying for a while?”
“Ponniyin Selvan has me commanded to be by his side till the coronation, Ilavarasi.”
Her brown eyes, soft in the glow of the lamp, bright from both the prospect of having him around, and getting a few hours of rest, stared into his for a while before she broke the spell to smile at him, “Get some more rest, Devan.”
He watched the two princesses walk away, having only then realised that they had both not been wearing their customary anklets, or even bangles, the reluctant spy in him marvelled at their tricks.
.
.
.
Vanathi kept her silence until they reached her chambers, “Akka, the suspense is killing me!”
A small giggle escaped Kundavai, “I had a lot to say to him, but his presence was so calming that I think I fell asleep before I could even finish half a thought.”
Vanathi giggled too, “You have been very brave, akka. I am proud of you”
Both of them dissolved into a fit of laughter, their joy echoing through the silent walls of Tanjai Fort which had been deprived of their tinkling laughter for a very long time now.
.
.
.
Preparations for the coronation kept the two of them busy during the day, but Kundavai had found such comfort in sleeping in his arms that she found herself doing exactly that on most nights. Taking off her anklets, blowing out the lamps in her chambers and making her way to his. He would be waiting for her, arms wide open, offering comfort, sharing stories of Aditha. They had cried, laughed, and missed him together. They had started healing. Vandiyadevan took his time getting used to how their love was growing; his initial shock of suddenly having his arms full of Kundavai had faded in the face of comfort, kindness, warmth, and gentleness that they shared.
Vandiyadevan had dared dream of more, so had Kundavai. She had felt his hands running through her hair, sending little shocks of pleasure down her spine. Would he feel the same, if she ran her hands through his hair? It did not feel the same when her friends did. She had felt the soft touch of his lips on her hands, and she had wondered how it might feel elsewhere on her skin. Her chest had been pressed against his, she had marvelled at how different his body felt to hers. He was all muscles, scars and unruly smiles drowned in sunlight while she was bathed in moonlight.
As the dark blue inky night turned into a purple dawn, she had left a small kiss on the corner of his lips as he had slept. He had felt her soft coral lips throughout the chaos of the day, with Arulmozhi Varman placing the crown on Sendhan Amudhan’s head, Chinna Pazhuvettarayar’s disappearance in the midst of the chaos and Kundavai’s confusion and horror at her brother’s actions. He knew she would not come to him tonight, and he would have to leave tomorrow along with Thirumalai, he made his way to her instead.
She was sitting surrounded by a bunch of scrolls and olais, and turned to look at him as he climbed through her window, “I am so angry with you.”
“I was bound to secrecy! How could I betray Ponniyin Selvan’s trust,” his face open, eyes wide and pleading.
“You could have given me a small hint!”
“I tried to convince him that you would take his side, but he was adamant that no one should know. I am very sorry Ilavarasi.”
She sighed, irritated but resolved to move past her hurt, “Well, what is done is done.”
He sat in front of her, “I have to leave tomorrow.”
She looked up, “In search of Chinna Pazhuvettarayar?”
“Yes, the chief minister thinks it would be wise to send me instead of a large battalion.”
Kundavai had begun to put away her olais, he stood up, taking the bundle from her arms and placing it on the nearby shelf. She stood too, “You came to take your leave then?”
He walked back to her, stopping only when his hand wrapped around her waist and his toes in line with hers. She gasped, her hands holding his arms, her eyes wide. This was different, this was very different from all the nights she had spent sleeping in his arms. His hands, ran up her waist, slowing setting her skin on fire. Pulling her closer, he left a kiss on the corner of her lips. Just as she had done in the morning. But he did not stop, he continued to kiss his way down her neck, her shoulders, back to her collar bones and before she knew it, she had plunged her hands into hair, her mind going blank, her skin tingling. She pushed herself into him, closer. Why had they not done this before?
Vandiyadevan raised his head, his hand on the back of her neck, “The little flower of a kiss you gave me this morning has stayed with me all day. I’m going to kiss you properly now Kundavai, tell me to stop.”
She shook her head, eyes closed and raised herself onto her toes and pressed her lips to his. His hand around her neck kept her in place, as her entire being focused on where his body met hers. Her tongue tangled with his, her fingers in his hair, her chest pressed in his, his hands running up and down her back. Oh, she could do this forever, be held by him, to kiss him.
They had to come for breath though, she had meant to say something, which was lost when she felt his lips going down her neck again.
“Is this where you keep me prisoner, Ilavarasi?” he asked, stopping at the valley between her breasts, eyes looking up at her.
“Yes,” she let out in a huff
She felt him smile against her skin, continuing down to her waist, leaving kisses on every bit of her skin. She felt her knees buckle when he bit down where her waist chain usually sat, her nails sinking in his shoulders. He kissed he way back up to her lips, his forehead against hers as they took in deep breaths.
“Is this how you take your leave?” she asked, still pressed into him.
“This is how I will take your leave” he smirked, hands running down her back.
She kissed him, this time trying to commit to memory how he felt against her. Her hands against his warm skin, feeling the way his breath hitched when she kissed down his neck, the way her hips moved closer to his, when her hands wandered across the vast expanse of his shoulders, when she kissed his chest, asking him the same question he has asked.
.
.
.
His countenance was grim the next morning, the task ahead of him was not an easy one. But he turned back to look at Kundavai, as was to become habit as he went on his many adventures, and she smiled, the most encouraging smile she could muster. He smiled back, his eyes twinkling with the promise to return to her. She raised her hand to her chest, her palm fisting, holding him prisoner in her heart, entwining his soul to hers even as his body crossed oceans and cities that she would never see.
---------------------------------------------------------
Somehow this is a mix of movieverse and bookverse. I was wondering how it would feel for Kundavai to make a move without thinking of the many consequences of her actions, and pull a Vandiyadevan and say, to think is to act.

Care part 2 | Vallavarayan Vanthyathevan x Kundavai
(Part 1)
Kundavai p.o.v ~
      Kundavai was walking through the deserted hallways of the palace. It has been a few days after the last rituals of her Anna has been done. It had been a big shock for her, but, for her parents, people and thambi she had to keep her composer. Always. To keep her emotions intact. She knew that she won't be able to take another shock in her life, like, what was even remaining? Her lover had been falsely accused, he had ran away, God knew where he was, if he was fine, her Anna had passed away, and.... She had actually lost the track... And what more could possibly go wrong....right?
      But boy was she wrong! After a few minutes of walking, she started to hear someone calling her name. The voice seemed calm but frantic at the same time. She quickened her pace and started jogging towards the sound.
      Just around the corner, she saw Chendan Amudhan, Poonkuzlali, Vanathi and Azlvarkkadian ; Chendan was carrying something, which looked like a person, in a cloth and the cloth itself was covered in blood. She got confused on why were they bringing a dead .. or an injured person to her? Just then she saw the strands of hair and the hand of the person which was poking out of the cloth.
      The jet black curls... The wristband..... The fingures..... The overall size of the body.... She knew who the person was even before she unraveled the face of the person. It was her Vanthyar.
      Shock and terror passed through her veins in an instant. She just looked at him, dumbfounded. There was no smile, no playful look in his eyes. They were black, lifeless even... But she could dare- how could she- to think that- he was - nonono- it can't - but what if. She felt tears starting brimming in her eyes. Her hand shook as it went near his nose, having hope that he would be alive. She won't be able to live without him. She didn't even realise that she had been holding her breath
      Her figures stoped just below his nose, her heart was beating rapidly. There were no fumes coming out of her nose, nor was he inhaling. No no it can't be... She quickly unraveled the cloth which was hiding his chest and what she saw, almost made her loose her ground. There was a big gash on his chest and the blood was oozing out quickly... He had lost alot of blood coming here also...... She placed her palm gently on his heart. She stayed like that for over few minutes but there wasn't even a single faint beat.
      Her ears blocked out every noise. She went into pure shock. Her Vanthyar was dead. He was not there with her anymore. She would never see his mischievous smile, she would never watch the glint in his eyes, to get to hear his clever words, his flirts, his jokes, she felt as if someone had ripped a big piece of her heart. She felt her will of living flying away. She looked at his lifeless body. The pain was so much she even forgot how to cry.
      She stood there like a statue as she saw her future, her happiness, her love, her life laying motionless in front of her. Her Vanthyathevan was dead, and there was nothing she could do about it. She started to feel darkness taking over her. The solid ground beneath her broke open and swollowed her.
      She felt uneasy. Her eyes were closed. She was in a sitting position and her head was laying on something soft and she felt something like a hand on her head. When she remembered what had happened she quickly sat up. The hand fell directly on the bed because of the quick motion.
      It was nighttime, The moon's light was poking through the balcony. She slowly lifted her hand to her forehead... It was filled with cold sweat. She looked at the person on the bed... And to her astonishment, it was Vanthyathevan! Her Vanthyar! Oh my! She quickly checked his breath. He was alive!
      A cry of releif made it's way out of her mouth as she figured out it was just a dream. A dream... But it seemed so real.... But ... He was alive and it was the only thing which mattered to her now.
    She pulled down his blanket and stared at his chest. She had patched up the wound but she was able to see blood seeping through the bandage. She sighed as she got up and went to her cabinet to get some extra medicines. It had almost been a day since they had brought him here.
      Vanathi had been here but she had sent her away for the night. Her thambi had been keeping a close eye on Vanathi (A thing which still made her smile), and she didn't wanted her thambi to find out about Vanthyathevan just now. Vanathi had been resistant to go away, but after some insisting she did, but not before giving her akka a teasing smile, side eye, few teases and a wink.
      But she didn't cared about the teasing now, all she wanted was to get her lover moving again.
      After collecting all the ointments she needed, she went back toward the bed. She sat beside him and started to remove the bandage really slowly, trying to be as gentle as possible. She knew she had been crying because of the dream but the bloody bandage had the thought of wiping them away thrown out of the window. As she was removing the now bloody remains of the ayurvedic ointment, he started to churn and moan out in pain. She quickly kept the hand on his head and started to tap it, with occasionally saying few words to him. She was able to finish patching him again before he opened his eyes.
      His eyes started to open slowing. He frantically looked around till his eyes rested on her face. His body seemed to relax when he saw her face.
VV P.o.v ~
      As the searing pain shot through him, he woke up with a start, He started to look around frantically, feeling a bit scared, then he rested his eyes on his Ilaya piratti.
      Oh the look! It made all of his pain wash away. He then noticed that she had been trying to sooth him. Her face was luminous in the bright moonlight. But then, he also took notice of the tears which were resting on her cheeks. He felt his heart shatter by seeing this, was his Ilaya piratti crying because of him? Because of his wounds? because seeing him in pain?
      This thought made him sad. He didn't wanted her to feel sad or cry because or over him. He hated the fact that he was the reason why she was crying. His thoughts were fuzzy and he didn't actually had any control over his actions, but he knew that he wanted to figure out what made her sad.
3rd person's p.o.v.
      "Priye.." Vanthyathevan called out to her. She had been starting at him as his face went through many emotions, but when he called her his priye, again, her ears perked up. All of her attention was on what he was saying.
   "Han?"
   "Were you crying?" He asked in a serious tone.
   "Na... I was a bit sad, yes, but it's all fine now."
   "Aae! Why were you crying? And how is it fine all of a sudden?" He asked.
   "Arre, I just had a nightmare, I was a bit disturbed because of it, yes, but was able to comfort myself after I saw you, and don't worry I am fine. And right now, all I want to do is to make you fine, for.." she stopped in her tracks. What was she supposed to tell him? The truth or the half truth.
   "For what"
   "M- Battles,-" she stuttered. "- you want to fight right?" She asked
   "Yes, but-" he stopped in his tracks, would it ok to her to know the actual reason? He was confused, so he just changed the topic. "- wait, but what was the dream about?"
   "Do you really want to know?"
   "Yes, offcourse I do!"
   "It may not be good for your health.."
   "Well, my answer is still yes."
   "You want to know? Fine then, listen"
   "I had a dream, from when you were brought in here yesterday morning, it was sooo real. Just like yesterday. But in this version, when I unveiled you, and tried to figure if you are breathing or not, you - you-" all the confidence she had gathered to tell this to him, had flew away, she had came to that part. Tears started to brim in her eyes. Vanthyathevan noticed it and took her medicine filled hand in his own. He then slowly started to rub circles on it
      "Kanne.... Please tell me." The hand gave her some reassurance.
   "That- you were- you- weren't al- you were- dead. " Her voice broke as she said the last part and started to cry. When he saw her full out crying, his broke more that it ever had. He didn't like seeing his priye crying!
      He put his other hand over her shoulder and pulled her close to him. She cried her eyes out, all of the emotions she had held, mainly worrying that he would die, if he would get better, came crashing down. Vanthyathevan knew it, so he just kept soothing her, by running his hands on her back. She was laying beside him basically, with her head touching his shoulder.
      After a while, all he could hear was some muffled sniffs. Thinking that the crying wave was over, he slowly, with caution ofc, asked her.
   "You know right, that I will always be ther for you?"
   " hmmp"
   "That I will never leave you?"
   "Hmmmp"
   "And even if I die-"
   "Shh! Don't say anything like that." She said getting up on her elbows. Her hair were falling on her shoulders. His hands were still resting on her. He never thought that he would ever find the Ilaya piratti Kundavai beside him.
   "I am just saying, that even if I die, I will never leave you, I will always wait for you in the afterlife." These words made her smile a bit, but her eyes started to give away, she looked tired and sleepy. So he just pulled her close to him, and she then passed out almost immediately.
   "I love you" He whispered before passing out himself.
      Later, when Vanathi entered the room, saying the she was surprised would be an understatement. I am just saying, imagine you walking into your Best friend and her... What do you call a person who you love and he loves you back, they flirt, their families know it, or atleast have an idea about it, and they are most likely to get married to one another? Anyway, asleep. Together. With her curled up against him. With his hands around her. In one bed. When they aren't even married.
      But when Vanathi saw Kundavai's peacefull face while while was sleeping; a peaceful sleep, which she has been derived from for a long time, she left the lovebirds alone. But she did tease them about it after they got married.

Dipawali special | Amv x Vanathi, VV x Kundavai
( Plz read the AN in the end, as it has info about the future posts, etc. )
      Vanathi sat on the floor drawing a big rangoli on one of the passageways in front of the big windows which looked over the scenery below. Just then she heard someone calling her from behind and a cry of a baby. She knew whose baby it was in an instant.
   "Ilavarasi! Please look at our little Ilavarasare! He just won't stop crying!"
   "Just bring him over" Vanathi shouted back, as Aamani came near her, with little madhu in her hands. Aamani handed madhu over to her. Vanathi's motherly instincts took over her as she didn't care that her fingure were lathered with pigments or that she was on the floor in an uncomfortable position, all that mattered to her was that her child was crying and she needed to console him.
      Vanathi took madhu in her hands and holded him close to her. He fitted so perfectly in her arms. His little head was resting on her shoulder as she slowly tapped his back, slowly cooing him. Someone had called Aamani from some other hallway so she had to go. She started to walk away but not before giving the mother and son duo an adoring look.
      Vanathi kept holding him. She could see the whole city below the palace starting to light up more than ever. Children's laughter, the smell of delicious delicacies cooking in the palace kitchen and the city. She wanted to stop this moment and just be in it for a long time. Everything and everyone was happy and good. And that the happiness of her life was resting on her shoulders right now.
      A few minutes after Madhu had stoped crying, she felt someone's presence behind her. She felt scared when it came all to near her. And even more scared when it slowly slid it's hand around her waist through all her clothing.
   "Who are you?" She asked as she prepared to strike the man.
   "Do I need to introduce myself to you mam?" Said the man. Vanathi relaxed as she figured out who it was.
   "Yes mister" she said playing along with him
   "Hmmm.... Let me think.... I am your husband, the father of your child and most importantly I am and will always be your yaanai paagan." Arulmozhi replied, whispering the last part, while resting his chin on her free shoulder.
      A small giggle left her mouth as he did so. Both of her loves were resting on her shoulders. They stayed like this for some time.... Just enjoying the silence, Amv had to leave for a battle in a few days, so he was cherishing all these moments.
   "Aaya, we must get up now, the Pooja and programs will start now. Besides, people will start to look for us... Common, we must get up." Vanathi said while getting up. Amv looked unhappy at this, but, well, she was right .. wasn't she.
      After getting up, he stared at both of them as she fixed her dress, after sitting for so long. He always thought that what did he do to deserve such good and beautiful wife and child. His little tiger looked like him, but had inherited Vanathi's lotus like eyes. And... He was really mischievous. And he can say it confidently that he had inherited this mischievous behaviour from his father... Much to Vanathi's dismay.
      Vanathi looked up at him and caught him starting at her. She smiled to herself.
   "Do you want to hold him?"
   "Ha" Vanathi handed him Madhu and then both of them started to walk towards the mandir.
~~•~~ VV and Kundavai
( Plz read... IMP : So, not to offend anyone, I am not a tamillian, so I don't actually know what they do there during Diwali.... I tried to search from Google but to no avail. In Maharashtra, we have a thing called 'Abhyanga Snan' in which, on the main day of Diwali (Narak chaturdashi / laxmipoojan) we wake up early morning and lather us with oils, massage, then we bath with utna and moti soap, I wanted to do something with VV and Kun on Diwali so .... Here it is)
~~~
      "Aae will you stay still! " Vanathi said. It was the morning of Diwali and Kundavai and Vanathi were massaging Vanthyathevan before the bathe. They had just did the same thing with Ponniyin selvan before VV, he had been quite but now he was sitting in front of Vanthyathevan panting like he had ran till Singhala and back.
   "Are you trying to pull my hair out!" VV screamed as Kundavai oiled his hair rather.... Violently.
   "Shut up! Look at Thambi, he sat quietly when we were massaging him! Just stay still."
   "He is a good boy! And you both were gentle with him! And you both are treating me like I am a dirty cloth, and you are cleaning me alongside a river" After making this statement, Kundavai stoped abruptly. She bended down, came near his ear, and said:
   "Maybe you are a piece of cloth."
   "But I am your piece of cloth... Ain't I?" He replied turing his head to come face to face with her's.
   "Maybe you are right" she said in almost a whisper. Their faces were so close to each other.... That.... Well.... You get it.
      "Aaiyo Akka I am also here! Don't forget that you are infront of your thambi!" Arulmozhi shouted sensing where it was going. When he shouted this Kundavai got straight up with heat creeping up her face faster than anything. She quickly looked at her thambi who had covered his eyes with his hands, and had a traumatized look on his face. Vanathi had turned away from them and was standing with her hands on her eyes.
      "Aae! Overacting machines! Got awkward by just this? Do I need to remind you how madhu came in this world in the first place?" Kundavai asked knowing full well what effect this tease was going to have on them.
   "Akka" both of them them shouted, while emerging out of their respective hiding positions. Both of their faces were tomato red. I mean... More than tomato red.
      This reaction caused both Vanthyathevan and Kundavai to laugh out loud. They both were blushing so furiously, that Vanthyathevan thought that the couple might burst out of shyness. The rest of the festive day went like this. They were happy afterall! And ... Maybe... Teasing each other was the only this which the four of them did throughout that day. And we can just say, that the teasing went a big too far away till the night, as they went to sleep, stomach paining from all that laughing.
people who think ali hazelwood and emily henry invented straight romance should sit for a compulsory viewing of late 2000s-early 2010s bollywood romcom movie situationships, which were all about putting together two random hot young people into the Most out of pocket wish-fulfilment fanfiction tropes of all time. and they still had light years more flavour and chemistry than any booktok fave romance btw.
Why? | Arulmozhi Varman × Vanathi
Arulmozhi Varman was pacing down a hallway. He was going to his Vanathi's room. He had many questions for her after what had happened in the morning.
_Flashback_
      He was riding his elephant as a Yaanai Paagan. He was to reach Thanjai to meet his father secretly. Just then he heard a commotion. His ears alerted when he Recognised the voices as His Akka, Samudra Kumari and Vanathi. He placed his elephant in distance and slowly walked towards them, listening to their conversation.
      "No one has done anything to me. Just as some people dislike the throne, I dislike palace life." Poonkuzlali gave Vanathi a sidelong mocking glance.
      Vanathi stepped forward angrily. "Akka, she's teasing me again. I swear on your blessed feet, with the sky and the earth as my witness. If Price Arulmozhi survives today, if he marries me, if I'm fortunate enough to be his wife, I'll never sit on the throne of Thanjavur. This is my oath."
      As Vanathi said this, The world stoped around Arulmozhi. He was hurt beyond anything. He saw everyone's reaction. He ran away from the place towards his elephant as he was getting late.
      Even though he was riding the elephant, her words never left his mind. 'she had taken an oath which millions will fear to take and she took it without a second thought.... For me...' he kept thinking.
      It wasn't only the monks who nursed back to health. He clearly remembered a soft female touch which was filled with love and care when he was sick with the Lankan flu in Choodamani Monastery, he had gained consciousness for some time and had felt it. He now knew who it was. The letters, her touch everything had always been real, pure. 'All this time she never intended for the throne..... She only wanted my love and here I was, insulting, teasing, ignoring her all this time.' guilt consumed him as he thought about this.
      He had always loved her but never accepted it himself because all this time he had thought that she loved him for the throne. Like her uncle.
      After that he had went on to saving Vanathi and Poonkuzlali from the crocodile and all, but at that time too he was lost in these thoughts.
_End of Flashback_
      She heard a loud knock on her door. It was quite well into the night, so she was scared on who it was. "Vanathi!" "VANATHI!" She heard a masculine voice call from outside the door. It was Ponniyin Selvan. She calmed her nerves down. It wasn't like she hated him, but he had hurted her a lot. "Vanathi, if you don't open the door now I am going to break it." He said in a threatening tone. This got her to open the door.
      When she opened the door, she was met with the eyes of Ponniyin Selvan. He was in his night robes. So was she. He wore a plane white dhoti with a shawl. He was intensely looking at her.
   "What is it Ilavarasare? You shouldn't be in the porch of an unmarried women's chamber at this hour." Vanathi said sternly.
   "You know what it is Vana, I mean Vanathi. Your oath. Why did you take it" he asked, his voice softening seeing her expression. He noticed that she still looked so beautiful, even in her plain saree and with her small minimum jwellery. Her hair which were there in a very loose braid, looked unkept and they were shining in the moonlight.
      She looked at the man who stood infront of her. She knew that a big storm was coming with the question he had asked. She can't afford to make a commotion at this hour, and how were they going to explain that what was he doing in her chamber, at this hour?
   "Shhh! Ilavarasare it would be better if you come inside. We can't afford a commotion at this hour." She said pulling him in.
      She closed the door and turned around. Their eyes met each other's. Her breathing fastened up as she saw him infront of her. At this hour.
He felt his cheeks were burning when he realised that they were alone in her chamber. Vanathi gathered enough courage, even though her thoughts were going haywire, and said:
   "About your question Ilavarasare, I don't know who told you about it, but I took it because I am the person who has to listen to people's taunts. Not you." She felt her temper building up.
   "What do you mean?" He asked taking a step forward.
   "You know what I mean-" she replied talking a step forward too "-you know the rumours. Many people do think that I wanted to marry you only because of the throne. Your Akka and a few were the only ones who ever believed that I loved you for who you are, not for your current or future status." Tears were brimming in the her eyes but she stopped them. She had decided that she was not going to shed tears this early.
      He stared at her dumbfounded. He bowed down his head in guilt and shame. He wanted to tell her that he loved her and it doesn't matter to him what the people had thought, but he knew that he was also one of those people.
"It's not like that Vanathi, I didn't wanted to get married at that time, I was 19! Though I did find you attra-"
   "I know what you felt of me Ilavarasare, you thought that I was greedy for the throne. Right?"
   "No, Ilavarasi-"
   "Please Ilavarasare, i know that you never felt that I was attractive and that you never have loved me-" tears were brimming again in her eyes.
      His heart broke seeing her like this. He took some steps forward. 'I have caused her so much pain' he thought to himself.
   "Vanathi! Listen to me! I know that I have been oblivious to the fact that you love me. People around me have kinda forced you, as in our marriage, on me. I never wanted to get married young. Some used to say that you loved me for the throne. They blinded me. I was blind to the pure, genuine love which you showered upon me. But I have thought of you as attractive since the first day!" He exclaimed in a loud voice so that she won't cut him off.
      They were near, almost a few inches apart. Their breathing was uneven. The moonlight was the only source of light they had. They stared at each other.
   "What about Poonkuzlali?" She asked in a low tone.
   "Who?"
   "I said, what about Poonkuzlali!-" She nearly shouted at him."-you may think that I don't know, but I am very much aware that you loved her. 'Samudra Kumari' or 'The ocean princess' you had named her. I was never jealous of her! I knew that she had won your heart! I was just sad. I have never spoken or thought anything ill about you or her Ilavarasare, even though she used and still taunts me. Do you even know how much I have craved for your love? Do you even know how many nights I have spent sleepless because of all the taunts and teases? Do you even know.... Me?" Her voice broke at this.
      The dam of tears, which she had stored, broke. Here she was, the Kadambulur Ilavarasi, broken. All the emotions she had stored from the people she had lost, the taunts, the words which have haunted her for all these years came trembling down.
      His heart broke beyond repair when he saw her in such state. All because of him. He never thought that he had caused so much of emotional damage to her. He had never expressed the love and admiration he had for her. If he had told her this before.... Things might have been different.
      He neared her and tried to wipe her tears with his hands. He grabbed her face softly and slowly ran his thumb under her eyes, intending to wipe her tears. To his disappointment and sadness she shooed away his hands. She took a step away from him and looked away. 'I can't afford to melt to his touch, he can't feel pity for me' she thought.
      He have had enough of this. Enough of this misunderstanding, he can't see her like this ever again in his life. He will never let her be sad in her life, ever again, because of him or anyone. He grabbed her shoulders and forced her to look at him. They were merely centimetres apart.
   "Vanathi, listen to me. I have always been attached towards you. You were in my thoughts everyday, every battle, every moment of my life since you had called me your Yaanai Paagan. Whenever I have thought about Poonkuzlali, romantically or not, I, for some reason have always compared her to you. I never liked this feeling, I or my brain didn't wanted to accept that my heart has always followed you. When I did realise this though, I was saddened at the thought that you loved me because of the throne, even though my heart always insisted otherwise. I have, do and will always love you Vanathi. I am never going to doubt you, never again! I promise you that I will keep you happy for the rest of time we have left together. I promise you Vanathi! I promise you." He said, pouring all his heart on her.
      They both stared at each other. Love and compassion filled in their eyes. A few tears had also left his eyes while he said this. She stared at him, tears stained herself, she never once, in her wildest dreams, thought that he would ever say anything like this to her. She melted at his touch, she was free of all the burden she had ever carried.
      She started to get a bit dizzy but didn't fall. He had balanced her and had pulled her close for some more support. She looked at him. Both of his hands were supporting her by her waist. They both stared at each other till Vanathi rested her head on his chest. He pulled her closer and kissed the top of her head.
   "I love you Vana" he whispered softly to her.
   "Me too, my Yaanai Paagan." She answered with a smile.
@Radhika1303 had requested for this chapter long ago. I had started to write it but when I read her request again I came to know that I had got the details wrong. So I started to write this again today at evening. I love to write emotional romantic scenes. And I think we can count this OS as one too right? I hope that you guys liked this oneshot. Instances mentioned are from the book. If any confusion let me know! :) And again, this isn't one my latest os's, but one of my favourites, so hope you like it!
Any suggestions and feedback appreciated.
Away | Nandini x Aaditya Karaikal
Nandini jolted up from her sleep. She usually remembered how her Karikalan had proposed to live far away, and after much negotiation they really had ran away. That day two dead bodies were found. A male and a female. Those burnt bodies were then identified as Aditya Karikalan and Nandini. In reality they were bodies of 2 pandian rebels. To the world they were dead. They had ran away, took a boat, headed to one of the islands of Singhala, and built their small world along side a beach.
They were quite secluded from the kingdoms, their politics, everything. They were able to get information on what was happening in the Chozha kingdom by the messengers which used to visit the island.
Nandini tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She looked out of the window of their hut and saw that it was still a bit dark outside. She kept her hand towards her right where her Karikalan usually slept. To her shock the bed side was empty. She quickly got up. Karikalan hadn't told her if he was going to go out. And at this hour..... She started to get concerned.
"Adhitha! , ADHITHA!! " She shouted with all her might. Their hut was small with only three rooms. After checking the whole freaking house, she finally came outside. Their house was a little far away from the beach, surrounded by tall trees, with a splendid view of the beach from the front door. "ADHITHA!
Just then someone knocked on her shoulders. She quickly turned around. It was her Adhitha, he was holding some freshly collected fruits and vegetables in a pouch. He had a mischievous smile on his face. By seeing him smile, she quickly started to punch the hell out of him.
" Ouch, ouch-Nandini - plea-ouch stop it"
"Now what? The brave tiger is feeling pain from such petty punches" Nandini said anger shone in her eyes. Karikalan just looked in her eyes and started to laugh like a madman, taking Nandini in a tight embrace. She stoped saying whatever she was and simply melted in his embrace.
"Just... Don't leave me without notice. You don't know how worried I had been. "
"I am sorry sakhie, but I wanted to surprise you. " He said. He loosened his and looked at his beloved Nandini. He had to wait soo many years to be in this position. Living a peaceful life away from the kings and politics, with the love of his life Nandini.
"Come, sit here. "
They both sat on the deck on their house. Their legs were hanging in air. Cold breezes swaying them. They were eating the berries Karikalan had collected for them, enjoying each other's company.
Nandini rested her head on Karikalan's shoulder. "This is life, ain't it? " Nandini asked. Karikalan just hmm'd.
I know this chapter is too short but if you guys want I will make a part 2 for this. This is one my oldest os's, thought that you guys will like it so... Yeah! And since then I have made 2 more parts for this series.
I hope that you guys like this. If any confusion let me know! :)
Forever | Kundavai x Vanthyathevan
Vanthyathevan nervously knocked on the door of the Chakravarthy's chamber. He had wished to meet the emperor and the empress since the whole week. They were staying at the golden palace which Ilavarasare Karikalan had built in Kanchi.
      He still remembered what he had said to his Ilaya piratti almost a year ago, just before Manimekali's death. That he will first accomplish and earn something before asking for her hand in marriage. He later found out this made her love him even more.
      They have been flirting and talking a lot whenever they used to meet in this past year. He had accomplished a few things with Ponniyin Selvan by his side, and now was crowned the king of the Vanar clan. He had came to know that a Swayamvar was going to be held for Kundavai, and when he had heard this news, he came to a conclusion that he can't wait any longer. They both were of marriageable age and the people of Chola Desam were getting restless to see her marriage.
      He had talked about this matter with Ponniyin or rather he had talked about it with him. Arulmozhi really wanted his best friend to marry his Akka too........
      He entered the room, the Chakravarthy was sitting on the couch. As he entered the grand chamber, their eyes fell on Vanthyathevan.
   "Ah! Vanthyathevan! Arulmozhi said that you wanted to say something to me..."
   "He did, didn't he..." He muttered under his breath.
Sundar Chola laughed at this, he was quite fond of this Vallam king. And he hadn't missed the flirting glances and words which him and his daughter had shared whenever they met. The standing with each other during the coronation or different prossetions. He might be an old person now, but his senses or observation skills hadn't detoriated even a bit.
      SC pointed at the couch which was in front of him to VV, while still chuckling. Vanthyathevan sat on the couch rather hesitantly, doubting if the man in front of him will kill him for what he was to say.
   "Arase........"
   "Yes Vallavarayan?".
"Arase.....AreyougoingtoholdKundava'sswayamvaram?
   "Excuse me?"
   "Vanthyadar, speak slowly dear" Vanama Devi intruded
   "I- I was asking -that- um- Are you going to hold Ilavarsi's swayamvar?"
   "Yes... I mean it's yet not decided.... We are still thinking..... The people are getting restless... But this Kundavai isn't getting ready to do so, she says she already has decided whome she would marry..." As SC said this, he gave Vanthyathevan a side glace. Vanama Devi too looked at him.
      Vanthyathevan could feel his cheeks flushing a little and it would be a big lie if he said that he wasn't scared.
   "May I tell you something Arase?" VV said, sweating his head off.
   "Yes of course"
"PleasedontkillmebutIthinkthatboykundavaiistalkingaboutisme"
   "Vanthyar please speak clearly"
   "Yeah... Sir .. please don't kill me but- I think that the person Kundavai is talking about is me...." VV had closed him eyes after the first 3-4 words.
      There was a pin drop silence in the room. No one was speaking anything. Vanthyathevan slowly opened his eyes. Sundar Chola was looking at him with an expression he didn't quite understand. It was a mix of happiness, shock, knowingness.. Vanamadevi who didn't had the same expression (except she seemed a little more happier) went near her husband and rested her palm on his shoulders.
      "I am asking for your daughter's hand Arase." Vanthyathevan said more confidently than before. A smile appeared on SC's face after that.
_After some time_
      Vanthyathevan had ran out of Kanchi the second Chakravarthy had made his decision. He had many thoughts roaming his mind. All he wanted to do, was to reach Pazlayarai as fast as he can to ask her hand. Yep, he had asked her parents for her hand but not her...... It was actually because he was far more scared of her than her parents.
_At Pazlayarai_
      Kundavai was looking at the lotuses. There was a long lotus pond (rectangle) by the wall, behind of the balconies in her chamber. It was more of a railing type of passage.
      She was thinking about what her father had said about a swayamvar...... A swayamvar.... Where Kings and Princes of different kingdom will come to ask for her hand. She kept thinking about it since her appa had mentioned it. And her thambi had also been teasing her about it, though she had made it clear that she won't ever leave this kingdom. Then the thought of the brave vanar kul warrior or spy who had stolen her heart came into her mind.
      Just then Vanathi (who was carrying her nephew) came behind her.
   "Akka?" Vanathi called out.
   "Yes Kanne? And how are you?"
   "Akka... I am fine and you have just asked me this question a few minutes ago! I came here to tell you, that there is a surprise for you..."
   "I just worry about you Kanne.... And what surprise?"
A smirk slowly formed on Vanathi's face "I think a special someone.." At this point Kundavai had gotten a clue on who was it.
   "Special someone"
   "Oh! Common akka! You know who it is! The special someone who stole my Akka's heart!!" As she said this Vanathi sat beside her akka.
   "Wha- hea- is it..... Vanthyar?"
   "Oooo so you have a nickname for him too now? Oh my" Vanathi
   "Oh Parameshwara! Vanathi! It's what your husband also calls him! U never seem to say anything to him!"
   "Oh my dear akka.. He learns it from you... And is this what u call him when... You know.... You are alone with him?" With a big teasing smirk on her face.
   "VANu! Oh my! I am damn sure this is your harmons speaking! And when is he coming?"
   "Oh I was just teasing you akka.... And he has entered the fort already. You look out for him, I am going, I have to see the raj Vaidya.." Vanathi said getting up.
   "What? He is here? And be Careful Kanne..."
   "Yes Akka..." Kundavai helped Vanathi to get up. Though a blush was still there on Kundavai's face
_After a few seconds_
      Kundavai was looking out, with her hands on the railing. Some of her Sakhis were sitting below her balcony. Just then she saw her Vanthyar come in her garden where her Sakhis were talking with each other. She looked at him but he didn't seem to notice her and he ( being Vanthyathevan) started to flirt with the women. It would be a lie if we say that she wasn't jealous.... Or angry.
      She was happy that he was here, but that didn't stop her from getting angry. She patiently waited in her balcony for him to arrive.
      Kundavai felt some close her eyes from behind, but she didn't react. She felt someone getting close to her, followed by feeling some hot breaths on her neck. This sent shivers down her back. His lips were almost touching her ears when he asked
   "Angry with me?" Kundavai wanted to stay strong and angry before him, but all of this was bringing her guard down.
   "What else do you expect me to be?" She answered in a steady tone.
   "What have I done now? Other than to make you feel butterflies in your stomach?" He said the last part in hushed tone. 'Him and his words!' Kundavai thought to herself.
   "Oh! I think you know what you have done."
   "What?"
   "Tell me one thing "
   "Ask me anything priye"
   "Sir, so, do you always flirt with other women or today was some special day?" She felt him getting closer to her
   "Oh! So you saw me flirting.... That is just a part of my personality."
   "So... You flirt with me because of this right?" Kundavai asked shoving him aside and starting to walk off without looking at him. But Vanthyathevan grabbed her wrist stopping her.
   "Well offcourse I flirt with you because I can't help it, but you are different Priye-" he pulled her towards him and grabbed her with his other hand on her waist. "- No other women has managed to make me truly love them... And to make me this loyal to them.... And to rob me of my sleep.... And -." He said as they stared at each other.
   "Really? How loyal are you Ilavarasare?" She asked cutting him off.
   "Tell me what can I do my Ilaya piratti... How can I prove my loyalty to you priye?"
   "Jump in the pond"
   "What ?" It looked like all the colour had drained out of him
   "Can't the brave Vanar kul prince even jump in the water for his.... Love?" Kundavai said all this by getting too much near him, their faces were mere centimetres apart as they looked into each other's eyes. After saying this, she let herself go and started to move away again.
      When she was about to reach the end of the passageway, she heard a big splash of water. She quickly turned around, only to see her Vanthyathevan, the brave warrior who battled thousands, failing to keep himself afloat. She had the nerve to laugh at this, it was quite funny ok! She laughed and laughed going her the edge of the pond which was near VV, getting on her knees and offering her hand to him. A smile appeared on his face when he saw her offering her hand to him. He quickly grabbed it and was successful in shutting her laughter as he pulled her down into the water with him.
      Fear took over Kundavai as she fell into the water body, only to realise that the water was merely 1-2 foot deep. The princess was quick to realise that Vanthyathevan had tricked her into his trap to get her soaked.
      She quickly stood in the water, and so did Vanthyathevan who donned a big fat smile of triumph on his mischievous face. In all this chaos he had been able to grab her other hand too. The look on his face made her smile too. They stared at each other. Again.
   "Ilavarasi"
   "Yes?"
   "I had went to Kanchi" this statement made Kundavai's smile disappear a little.
   "Why?"
   "I-i had went there to- ehm- I -" He started to get nervous as he started to get to the Main proposal.
   "What Vanthyar?" Curiosity was taking a big toll on her
   "Um- to ask for your hand in marriage" There. He had said it. There was a pin- forget pin but hair drop silence in the passageway.
   "And what did he say?" She asked slowly, looking down, fearing on what he might say.
      Vanthyathevan bent down a little to come face to face with her in terms of height.
   "He asked me when am I going to take Chola desam's fierce tigress away from them." They were mere centimetres apart. Her eyes quickly went up to meet his. Emotions like joy and happiness were flowing from their eyes. She lunged herself at him and gave him a big hug. Because of her force, They both fell into the water again with a huge splash.
     She looked at him with a big smile on her face, they were millimetres apart. Hands still around each other, bodies closely stuck because of the water.
   "I love you!" They both said simultaneously making both of them break with laughter. Both of them mad in love. Never to separate. Together. Forever.
