1983 Kawasaki Z650
I started writing this post last summer and never got around to finishing it. So here goes. Last summer due to sharing vehicles, I found myself staying at my parents-in-lawā€™s without a car or bike. We had a few places we needed to get to including my nieceā€™s naming ceremony so I asked my mother-in-law very nicely if I could borrow her 1983 Z650. A bike she has owned since almost new, excluding aā€¦

Attitudes towards bikers
On a recent trip, I was heading down the A12 with its miles of roadworks at the moment. As I started to filter through the traffic, I was amazed at how many cars, vans and lorries were moving over a little to give us some more space. I donā€™t expect this as filtering should be done safely with no impact on other road users, but it is always nice when another driver sees you and gives you that bitā€¦

Rubbish Roads
Heading down the A12 past Colchester on a recent trip I was amazed and appaled at the amount of rubbish that is lining our roads. Some rubbish has been dumped there like mattresses but the majority is made up of plastic drink bottles and other small items that presumably have been discarded out of vehicles. It is not only an eyesore but also an environmental issue and, whilst I would not regardā€¦

Wet, Cold and Foggy
With half term coming up, we were planning a semi-regular trip cross country to visit family. With a short conference up in Wolverhampton on the last day of half term, I made an early getaway from school, picked up the bike and joined Mrs Mad for the damp trip up to Wolverhampton. With February showing true delights, we were in sub-5-degree temperatures, sleet and rain coming down, but we made itā€¦

First ride of 2024
After a calm New Years Eve, I was raring to get the Milkfloat out on the road. So, despite the cold temperatures, I loaded up and hit the road. No real plans of route, just headed out. After turning around and heading south, I found myself on the road towards Tenbury Wells. With my tyres still breaking in, I took it gently, hoping for some good angles with my new insta 360 camera. Straightā€¦

2023, where has it gone?
Another year has passed and what a year it has been. The first 5 months were plagued by work issues, a battle to get the Milkfloat MOTā€™d and absolute chaos. From the difficult start, we made the most of the opportunities going, starting with a brilliant time at the last ever spring edition of the Adventure Overland Show just outside Stratford Upon Avon followed by a week camping down inā€¦

The Borders Classic Bike Show
I had heard about the Borders Classic Bike Show last year, but due to other plans, I couldnā€™t make it. So with the date in the calendar well in advance, I kept the day free. Mostly. The day before, I was sorting the brakes on my car on the drive, when I found I had the wrong attachment for my calliper rewind tool so a quick order was made and it was due to be delivered Sunday afternoon. The onlyā€¦

Aeron View Camping
We found Aeron View Campsite as a result of some last-minute searching online for a mini-break (as explained in this post). We chose the site based on availability and price. They are not the same reasons we will return. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the owners, Sue and Alex, who pointed out the facilities and generally made us feel very welcome. Our camping pod was simple butā€¦

The Original Z650
After finding out a close friend was also heading over to Suffolk for the same weekend as us, we decided to share the driving and the costs. It is a 450-mile round trip so it isnā€™t the cheapest for a weekend. It took a short while before the realisation that we would both need transport when we were there as we both had events on at the same time but in different directions. Maybe, I thought, Iā€¦

The Future of Blogging?
I hopped on my motorcycle and embraced the warm rays of the sun, cruising along the scenic road. As we rode towards the cafĆ©, the anticipation of a refreshing break grew. Once we arrived, we savored the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and indulged in some delicious treats. Energized and ready for more adventure, we set off again, this time taking a detour through the breathtaking Shropshire hills.ā€¦

The bike hunt
After a few months of talking to my friend and colleague, Shannon, about bikes and the possibility of her getting her own, I suggested we go for a ride on sunny Sunday afternoon. After sorting out a mismatch of riding gear, we headed out through the countryside on some very familiar roads. Our first real view opened up as we headed up into Clee Hill, admiring the openness and real sense of freedomā€¦
