Also: I was curious what exactly you mean when labelling something like "Gypsum var. Selenium".

Howdy! Thanks, that opal is indeed a pretty great piece. And yep, almost any original photo I post is from my own collection, with the exception of a couple pieces owned by my old supervisor at the U of A.
And close; the "var." that is often written in mineral names stands for "variety". So things like Selenite and Hackmanite are specific varieties of Gypsum and Sodalite (respectively)
