Pack Structure and Society hc

Hello its me im back with another long post. It was originally jsut supposed to be about packs but it got kinda mixed up with some other general society stuff. This is made for my writing personally so it's not even close to a one size fits all but feel free to take concepts u like !

🏔️ In my society packs are very central. My au isn’t total traditional, but I do take a lot of the more traditional stances when it comes to packs.

🏔️ Packs are typically a mix of blood relatives. It’s much more rare than you’d think to find a found family kind of pack where no one is related

🏔️ Packs are lead by the pack head, traditionally an alpha. A pack will also have a second, traditionally an alpha or beta. Large packs have a few more designations as well. The heart is the packs top omega usually unrelated /unmated to the head. Some packs also have a matchmaker, usually an omega in charge of choosing mates and giving relationship counseling. Some packs have a finance head, exactly what it sounds like usually a beta in charge of money and land. All packs typically have at least one pack paw. A paw is the pack’s muscle, think palace guards in fantasy aus. Large and rich packs will have enough paws to elect a paw head to coordinate their protection. Paws are traditionally alphas. Packs that are very religious will often have a religious leader as well. Their title varies from religion to religion as do their dynamics. This is sometimes different than like a priest in a church in a neutral town (keep reading for those) and sometimes not.

--Pack Head

--Second

--Paw Head (optional)

--Heart (optional)

--Finance Head (optional)

--Matchmaker (optional)

The religious head is not included as their place on the hierarchy can vary depending on religion and culture.

🏔️ In very traditional packs (most of them in my au) these positions are passed down by blood. As such each of these power positions is controlled by a different family, not mated pairs.

🏔️ Most packs tend to hold counsels with all these positions in attendance when big decisions are made, but at the end of the day what the pack head says goes.

🏔️ Packs can vary in size, but for my world building im going to focus on larger, rural area packs

🏔️ These large packs typically own quite a bit of land! Members are usually spread out over multiple buildings with the largest property functioning as the pack head’s home and a communal space. The pack head’s door is always unlocked.

🏔️ All buildings are usually within walking distance making my world a hell of a lot more rural than irl as you have these large tracts of pack-owned wilderness between villages

🏔️ A pack on the smaller end probably only has one village, or cluster of dwellings whatever you wanna call it ig, while larger packs can have three or four. In this case there’s usually some kind of town hall type meeting for all members to mingle a few times a month.

🏔️ These packs are self governing. Usually the heart and the head paw are in charge of discipline and justice, with the blessing of the pack head. 

🏔️ Since packs are self governing, packs have the power to execute, tho it is rare. Usually an offending member is outsourced to a private or government run prison, but in extreme cases a pack can legally kill

🏔️ Traditional packs are extremely territorial, and trespassing is one of those cases punishable by death

🏔️ Packs have a… long…. Complicated… history of alliances and enemies it can be super confusing for someone new to the area

🏔️ Packs do take in packless people from time to time. It can happen more formally or more relaxed. Formally a pack will seek individuals at shelters for packless, rehabilitation centers, or finishing schools. More laid back packs will simply advertise.

🏔️ Packs also arrange marriages between their allied packs (which in the 21st century can span across the entire globe) and some are known to buy omegas in particular 

🏔️ There are towns/cities on neutral grounds where pack borders meet. These towns are government owned and run and often have all the little shops and markets and religious centers and hospitals and pharmacies and movie theaters and libraries and what have you. Pack members can visit these neutral towns anytime they want! Tho very strict packs will not allow their omegas out on their own without a chaperone 

🏔️ While each pack is different, it’s not uncommon for packs in my setting to adopt a representative animal to act as a logo/crest of sorts! Some packs can be very closed to outsiders and these are the ones that often have their members tattooed or branded with the animal for recognition and a rite of passage

🏔️ While packs in a country/area do have cultural things in common they can also differ widely. 3 packs might be neighbors in territory, but one is devout Catholic while another is made of Wiccans and moon worshippers while another still are totally agnostic and are just really passionate about a certain football team. Stepping into a different pack can feel like transporting yourself to a different world/time. 

🏔️ There are two kinds of schools in this world: public government owned ones that are in the neutral towns that any area pack can attend, or private home schooling left up to the packs (but the government does check in on certain milestones for these ones) I'll make a different schooling hc later !

🏔️ Most of the packs in this world are pre established. New packs are often met with hostility.

🏔️ Packs almost always meet on neutral ground no matter if the function is positive (a mating dance perhaps or a holiday event) or negative (bickering over where the real border is)

🏔️ Some packs are self sufficient and farm and hunt on their own. These packs have lots of betas !

🏔️ Other packs rely on the neutral towns to provide for them, so their villages tend to be close to the border.

🏔️ Pack wars are mostly a thing of the past, they don’t really happen much tho certain packs are hostile towards other ones.

🏔️ All packs have a scent to them, you can tell when a person is of a certain pack or not and pack bonds are usually maintained by platonic scenting.

🏔️ Some packs desperately search for new members as they have issues with interbreeding

🏔️ Money is less of an issue in my world, a packs main source of income are usually a few working alphas and betas and if some betas and omegas decide to sell produce in the neutral towns. The central government will provide a ton of social services so these traditional packs (who are often considered like a cultural thing important to preserve) don’t struggle in modern times. 

🏔️ A pack will typically have less omegas compared to another dynamic, they’re more rare! It’s why some packs take protecting their omegas so seriously. In ancient times rogue or enemy packs were even known to steal and forcibly bond omegas from other packs. The protective instincts have remained even tho this is heavily illegal now and would be grounds for one pack to kill members of the other.

🏔️ Nature and land is way more important than irl !! Most packs keep their lands pristine wilderness they use for hunting or recreation. There are a few packs who have donated certain lands to the government to be preserved as national parks all packs can enjoy. Overall tho destruction of wilderness is taken so so seriously.

Catholicism in Omegaverse hc

I have a real unhealthy obsession with making Super Catholic Characters and forcing them to Confront Their Catholic Guilt And Trauma all day every day and my omegaverse stories are no exception to this soo... I have some ideas on how to warp Catholicism to my omegaverses :))

Pls be conscious of any TWs i placed some of them in particular may be very upsetting pls skip them if needed! Also a long post so pls keep reading under the cut fr

📿 Most basic tenants, core beliefs, rites (things like confession and confirmation), and services (mass, funerals, and wedding ceremonies) don't really need much changing and can stay true to the real world

📿 Typically God Himself and the Holy Family are depicted as totally dynamicless or a combination of all dynamics (Revelation 22:13, Revelation 1:8 worth the google lmfao)

📿 Historical Jesus (jesus the person not the religious figure) was probably a Beta but it's hard to tell since Rome sacked Israel destroying most early Christian documentation and followers.

📿 However sometimes when referring to the Holy Trinity dynamics do come up just like the Trinity is coded with gender irl. The Father (masculine) as The Alpha, the Son (masculine) as The Beta, and Holy Spirit (feminine) as The Omega

📿 All Saints have defined dynamics as many of them were real people. You'd typically pray to a saint that follows your own dynamic (an omega probably wouldn't pray to an alpha saint for help with an omegean issue for example)

📿 Orders that follow certain saints (think Franciscan monks for example) must be the dynamic of the saint or they cannot live with the rest of the devotees.

📿 Though the Church discourages speculation on the Holy Family's dynamics and refuses to take a position, Omegas have kinda claimed Mary for their own. Most Catholics who find an extreme importance in worshipping Mary are omegas

📿 Priests are mostly betas

📿 Betas have the easiest time getting into a seminary and convincing church officials of their vocation (a vocation is like your holy life purpose and in traditional Catholicism its either to fuck and make babies or to be a priest)

📿 Alphas are allowed in the priesthood but it is much more difficult for them to be accepted into a seminary. The church traditionally sees the vocation of alphas and omegas as the filling God's kingdom kind. Ruts also complicate things

📿 Chastity vows are still mandatory for clergy (ur mated to GOD now)

📿 It is assumed that betas have an easier time renouncing mating compared to an alpha (this is NOT true but the church is the church)

📿 Omegas are banned from seminaries and cannot enter priesthood. They are considered unclean and sinful by nature

📿 Eve is an omega hence the original sin being pinned on omegas (just like its pinned on women irl)

📿 Painful heats are considered part of God's punishment for disobeying His orders and partaking of the fruit

📿 Betas are not part of the creation story oddly enough (Adam the first alpha and Eve the first omega) and they're a little absent from the Old Testament, but they have a huge presence in the New Testament.

📿 Omegas do have a place in the clergy if they can convince the Church of their vocation. Omegas exclusively become nuns.

📿 Nuns are actually very valued simply because certain fields require that omegean touch. Teaching (Catholic schools are still very much a thing), childcare (orphanages and stay houses), and other social work (homeless shelters, food drives, anything that involves helping people in need) rely heavily on nuns

📿 The Church tends to wrongly make alphas masculine coded only and omegas feminine coded only

📿 its a major reason why many no long actively practice the religion

📿 Just like irl the Church struggles to keep up with modern times and this can be seen in the pairings they endorse

📿 The Church only supports a/o, b/b, a/female b, and male b/o pairings as these are the parings that can breed

📿 When a couple wants to take the next step and create a mate bond the Church asks that they HOLD OFF

📿 the Church strongly frowns upon sex before marriage and therefore mating before marriage

📿 Couples must complete pre cana first! and must marry like a good Catholic couple, in a Church under God officiated by a priest.

📿 Then the church asks they mate and make as many babies as possible lets go

📿 speaking of the Church irl still frowns upon contraception, so so does the omegaverse Church

📿 The Church also considers suppressants a form of contraception (and as a way omegas get around suffering for the original sin if the person is like crazy religious) so they aren't allowed

📿 Only in a medically needed situation are suppressants allowed

📿 So... relieving yourself during a rut/heat is frowned upon as this is a form of masturbation and God created the rut/heat cycle for babies not for selfish pleasure !! You have your heat and you deal with it !! You lie in your sinful slick and you pray !!

📿 Devout dynamics and clergy sworn to celibacy struggle with this (tho there is a black market for priest suppressants)

📿 Nuns and devout omegas have some of the worst heats, possibly even worse than a first heat just because they ignore their bodily needs and basic instincts in the name of religion

📿 This is viewed very... holy? Not sure of the right word here but it's held in high esteem and part of why nuns are such a big deal. Normal omegas tho aren't held so highly just bc they are free to mate

📿 Alpha admission into seminaries is rare because of this as well, Church authorities are wary of them being able to handle a rut like this

📿 There's a false statistic claiming that almost all sexual assault perpetrated by a priest are the crimes of alpha priests

📿 as said this is false, since the vast majority of the priesthood consists of betas most of the predators are betas as well

📿 SA, molestation, and grooming are still massive issues in the Church

📿 Male omegas are the biggest target of these crimes, though anyone can be affected. Male omegas are considered more vulnerable and easier to manipulate since the Church is very confused on the crossroads between gender and dynamic and refuse to update teachings (by this i mean since they create images of masculine alphas and feminine omegas female alphas and male omegas get lost. To someone from a devout pack/family with one of these dynamics it can be incredibly confusing and distressing to listen to church teachings making them more venerable to manipulation by gross old priests)

📿 The Church still frowns upon anal sex fr. Sometimes this confuses people to think sex with male omegas is sinful but anyone who paid attention in health class knows penetrative sex with a male omega isn't actually anal at all.

📿 The Church rarely clarifies this making it even harder for devout male omegas

📿 priests, monks, nuns, and clergy in general are expected to be as scentless as possible. It’s like a metaphor for shedding earthly desires and instincts to become a conduit for the heavenly. To be scentless is to be close to God. Some really devout older Catholics also strive to be scentless tho it’s not required of laymen

📿 it’s customary to wear heavy sent blockers to mass and abstain from communion or mass entirely if you are in heat or rut

📿 nuns close to children (pre school/elementary teachers, orphanage staff) are allowed to have scent as this helps the pups

📿 Children and recent dams (a person who has given birth) are also exempt from scent blockers, but all other laymen are certainly expected to wear their patches and spray on their covering perfumes before mass

📿 If a pre heat/rut or full heat/rut is occurring during a fast day the person is exempt from fasting and participating in any religious festivities

Hehe in my special version of Catholicism it’s mostly considered shameful n priests are still excepted to be 100% celibate (now if they are… different story). Giving into instincts would be ground for excommunication the same as irl. That’s why most priest are betas and omegas are banned from becoming priests entirely :))

Heyy yo I was not ignoring u anon but tbh ! I haven’t thought about betas in my verse all that much so I needed to take some time to actually think about them so thanks for forcing me to do that snsksk /gen/lh

🌙 Soo I decided that in my verse betas can experience a soft heat or a soft rut depending on their bonds (who it’s with I mean) and environment. By soft I mean it’s not as intense as an alpha/omega and they don’t always have the anatomy to work with their instincts but that’s for a different post !

🌙 What I mean here is ! If a beta is used to heats and goes into a rut or vice versa it could create a bit of an identity crisis that leads to some mild repression

🌙 A sudden rut could cause a beta to suddenly really lean into more omega coded activities or feel a repulsion around alphas

🌙 Betas panic nesting ♥️

🌙 Meanwhile a sudden heat night make a beta start being overly aggressive and competitive to “make up for” the omega coded heat

🌙 Outside of rut/heats maybe the beta jsut isn’t happy being a beta

🌙 If ur verse has it so ur characters don’t know what they are until presentation…

🌙 A beta who so badly wanted to be something else only to be awfully disappointed when their body doesn’t react to presenting the way they hoped

🌙 They would probably use a fuck ton of artificial scent (maybe special perfumes with pheromones in it makes you smell like another dynamic)

🌙 Forcing their way into classes or careers dominated by their desired dynamic

🌙 Acting the part more, aggressive or submissive! Insisting they too have these instincts that are unique to one of the other dynamics. While it’s true betas share some instincts with a/o it’s not that many and it’s not as intense !

🌙 Ignoring their own instincts bc they don’t see them as important or useful

🌙 In my verse betas are swifter, silent stalkers, the chefs, the gardeners! Why? Bc they’re the providers of food! They hunt and gather as the omega rears and takes care of the home and the alpha marks territory and protects that home (traditionally/evolutionary speaking that is)

🌙 So a beta who’s not proud of being a beta might lock themselves inside a lot. They hate the outdoors 🙄 they don’t feel the urge to water flowers at all 🙄

🌙 They probably refuse to cook for themselves as well claiming they’re bad or awful

🌙 Or maybe they actually just don’t believe they’re not literal Gordon Ramsay level in the kitchen and beat themselves up about it massively

🌙 Going back to presenting if ur verse is one where they know since birth

🌙 Maybe the beta was born to a family or pack lacking in betas. The parents maybe don’t know how to nourish their instincts (outside is dangerous stay inside or they lean too much towards a betas more alpha coded instincts or smth like that since they have a mix of alpha and omega habits!)

🌙 Or maybe that family is just straight up haters, anti beta, beta-ists. It’s not a useful dynamic in modern times, who needs a hunter when there’s like 12 Walmarts within an hour of here?? (That depends on ur verse tho fr)

🌙 Ultimately I feel like when it comes to betas their self hatred or repression would create them leaning towards one of the other two dynamics too hard instead of just being content in their own unique strengths

reading the comments in that “is RPF ok” poll is so fucking distressing, istg. the majority of comments seem to fall into “sure, it’s fine as long as it’s just fluff/not shippy/what they would do IRL” or “no that makes me uncomfortable so clearly it’s bad” with a side of “well if they consent, it’s fine.” which… i suspect that last one is a big piece of how we get people confronting celebrities with fic, which is actually not okay.

fan fiction has become too mainstream. it’s not meant to be something you talk about on The Voice, and you shouldn’t be reading fics on tik tok and hashtagging them so that millions and millions of people see them. because when that sort of thing happens, we get this push to sanitize everything - the RPF, the kink, the dark fic. this is the same fight as “there shouldn’t be kink at pride because uwu makes me uncomfy”. rpf, like all other fan fiction, is FICTION, and thus there are no moral lines in it about “well, it’s ok, but don’t write about them killing anyone” or “well, it’s fine, but don’t ship anyone underage.” y’all are the same as the book banners going to libraries and weeding out “objectionable” books, you’re just too caught up in “but it makes me feel weird” to realize it.

yes! some things will make you uncomfortable! that does not make them morally wrong. also! some things will seem fine to you, and still be morally bad. please, for the love of all things holy, go learn that.

yeess I LOVE repressed dynamics the main character I write with is heavily traumatized and repressed lemme ramble about some things

🌙 YES about the nesting !! Depending on where the repression is stemming from they may be ashamed of the habit, nesting is akin to humiliation to them. It may also be a display of weakness to them!

🌙 Imagining them picking up a single blanket not knowing what to do with it at all. They're distressed, they feel like they need to do something with this but they can't at all.

🌙 They throw it down in disgust before storming off

🌙 If nesting is a learned behavior do they even know how to? Were they neglected or orphaned and just literally don't know how? Or are they actively repressing the instinct out of fear or shame or something else?

🌙 I bet childhood abuse/neglect is a biggie for nesting issues. A lot of the times trauma literally changes brain chemistry to where people don't feel safe ever. If nesting only happens where/when we feel safe but your brain chemistry is telling you you're never safe?? Then what!

🌙 I bet these omegas are more prone to outbursts of uncontrolled emotion and panic attacks due to lack of nesting, like they don't have an outlet to sooth so what happens to those nasty feelings we all feel sometimes? Bottled up and exploded eventually

🌙 Scenting !! Is this also a learned behavior? Do they even know how?

🌙 I had a concept for my sweet boy. An orphan, he wasn't properly scented as a boy before being sent off to school and was so horribly upset and jealous at seeing all the other parents scent their babies before school. Poor bby started attempting to scent himself to sooth and into adulthood he still has these self scenting reflexes (rubbing his wrists on his neck hehe) feel free to steal this concept for ur own sad boys idc !

🌙 If they hate their scent/are dysphoric in regards to their dynamic they probably wouldn't scent anything at all. Scenting is usually depicted as a comfort, reminding the world you're, unfortunately, yourself would not feel comforting

🌙 Personally on the fence about if lack of scenting/physical contact makes the dynamics sick its really popular in writing but im not sure about it on one hand tho if you want ur character on death's doorstep for the angst its a great trope to use bc they're gonna be sick!

🌙 I bet for some being around other omegas would be distressing. Seeing people engage in/with the instincts you can't could really fuck a guy up. Like someone who can't nest, is aware that they need to for better mental health and have tried but cannot and are struggling coming into contact with someone with like pinterest level aesthetic nests? Distressing! Self hatred turned on! They're not even a proper omega so pathetic they cant nest like that

🌙 or on the flip side if they've been indoctrinated to hate omegas or view them as weak they would be embarrassed by other omegas. Look at that nest, how pathetic of them displaying their weakness to everyone like a little kid who needs a blankie smh

🌙 However I can also see repressed omegas uncomfortable around alphas too.

🌙 Repressed omegas might hate the concept of instinctual submission (this can be juicier the more oppressive your worldbuilding is towards omegas) and probably go to great lengths not to be seen as submissive. Maybe they avoid everyone outright in fear they might back down from an alpha one day and submit even subtly, or maybe they go out of their way to be aggressive. Baring teeth, growling, anything to signal their dominance first

🌙 In my verse purring is a learned trait. If your parents never purred around you neither can you. You technically have the muscles to but you have no idea how to vibrate them!

🌙 So going back to my boy he can't purr at all! Not that he would anyway thats embarrassing and so are all other omega noises. Imagine ur omega swallowing and fighting back whines and keens bc that's simply not them.

🌙 I think bonding would be an issue with these omegas too. I can't see this type of personality has having many bonds due to deep trauma they haven't worked through (probably wouldn't be repressed if it was worked on)

🌙 Maybe they're a loner without a pack or a loner within their pack but creating a new bond with one, especially a mating bond... might be out of question. They couldn't scent, they often won't verbally indicate, how do other people communicate with and perceive them?

🌙 Their pack bonds might be on the verge of crumbling if they don't have understanding pack members around

🌙 I bet heats are HELL

🌙 If lack of scenting/bonding makes your omegas sick they're gonna be sick and in heat at once if that's possible in your verse ik in some verses heat only happens when healthy

🌙 these omegas aren't touchy or social and are desperately trying to hide their natures, heat brings all of that to the surface. Craving another person, needing scent, literally feeling like you're about to boil from the inside out from the actual heat and the need of it all, rolling around on your own without a nest like oof

🌙 If your verse has suppressants maybe this omega is on them to the point it's unhealthy to avoid this

🌙 Where does sex inside or outside of heat fall? I imagine these kinds of omegas as socially distant and hating touch so I can't imagine sex is even a consensual option for them the same way I can't see mating bonds working out

🌙 Sex is also full full full of smell like scenting as affection, scenting as foreplay or during play, just the natural smells that come from sex probably overwhelm and repulse them

🌙 Consider oversensitivity ! Repressed dynamics that spend so much time trying to be as scentless as possible that they get overstimulated and sneeze and drool around strong smells

🌙 If your verse has drops (mine def does not i dont like this trope personally) maybe an repressed omega experiences these alarmingly often. Even once is too many times, but what happens to them if it's more than once? Do they start experiencing terrible health issues? Do they lose cognitive abilities?

🌙 Ultimately i think this concept depends a lot on your character, their personality, and why they're repressing themselves in the first place. Maybe they don't hate their dynamic it's just like a toxic habit they developed for some reason or maybe its 100% pure self hatred. What did they go through?? Play with it!

I have no clue if someone has ever asked this before, but do you have any headcannons for repressed Omegas? Like, literally anything on how they would react, because that trope is just *chefs kiss* to me. It can stand for some many things and I am absolutley feral about this :)

Honestly, I don't know where to even start. I'll just give you some random headcanons. I ain't gonna lie, I'm not really fond of this headcanon. Not because it's not interesting, it's just cause it usually stems from the fact that the Omega has been traumatized.

Nesting isn't natural to them. When they go into heat or are pregnant, they are mostly in bed or on the couch. They are anxious though, mostly because they need to nest but don't know how.
