Excerpt:
Eighteen hours had passed since Obi-Wan and Anakin went down to the surface. Ahsoka paced across the deck, alternating between staring at her comlink and out at the planet before them. She hadn’t heard from them at all and wasn’t sure if silence was better than a call for help. Both The Negotiator and The Resolute were fully repaired and ready to depart.
It was just a single droid in a single escape pod. Nothing could possibly be taking them so long. Besides that, Cody and Rex had been unable to find any information on the planet. Which was understandable considering they were in Wild Space but still frustrating. And Ahsoka couldn’t even contact the Jedi Council. Every time they tried, the calls failed, and the signal was lost. Maybe that was why Anakin and Obi-Wan hadn’t contacted her. Something was blocking the signal.
Still, they should have returned.
“I’m going after them,” Ahsoka said, spinning to address Rex and Cody. “Something’s wrong.”
“Should we come with you, Commander?” Cody asked.
“I’ll take Rex and a small landing party. I need you to stay here in case we’re attacked. We still don’t know if the Separatists were tracking the droid too.”
With a sharp nod, Cody saluted and turned away. Ahsoka took a deep breath and rushed off, Rex close at her heels. He glanced sideways at her but didn’t mention that she obviously looked panicked. A simple mission to pick up a droid shouldn’t take eighteen hours. It shouldn’t even take more than ten. Ahsoka should have gone after them hours ago.
But what could have been down on the planet that could have harmed them?
Ahsoka wasn’t sure she wanted to know. She instinctively checked for both of her lightsabers while Rex examined his blaster. They could be walking into a trap or a battle. Being trapped in unknown space with unknown enemies was more dangerous than any battle with the Separatists.
“I’m sure they’re fine, Ahsoka,” Rex said, but even he sounded unsure. “They probably got mixed up in something they shouldn’t have and just need a quick rescue.”
The transport ship shuddered as it lifted up and headed down toward the surface. Ahsoka noticed the clouds covering the planet had cleared. Beautiful mountain ranges and forests stretched as far as they could see, but as they got closer, Ahsoka noticed signs of a small village carved out into the center of the woods.
“I thought the scanners didn’t pick up anything,” Ahsoka said with a slight frown.
“They didn’t,” Rex said, and he looked as confused as she felt.
Stone pathways wrapped around little houses and led up to a towering castle. The town looked well cared for and obviously populated. Ahsoka braced for an attack, but no cannons fired, and no ships lifted into the sky. In fact, she didn’t see any ships at all. Even where Obi-Wan and Anakin supposedly landed. They brought their ship down into the clearing, and Ahsoka noted the pressed-down and slightly singed grass. There was no doubt in her mind that Anakin and Obi-Wan had been there.
Fighting the urge to draw her lightsaber, Ahsoka headed toward the woods and followed a path of cut foliage. There were burns along the edges. Anakin and Obi-Wan must have gone that way. Though the forest didn’t stay thick for long.
Together Ahsoka and the clones stepped onto a stone pathway. The town seemed quaint, with limited paneling and mechanics. Even the metal street lamps didn’t look like anything built in hundreds of years. From the moment they stepped foot onto the planet, Ahsoka thought she felt a heaviness in the air. It reminded her of her trip to Ilum. Both the unknown planet and Ilum resonated strongly in the Force. But something about that strange town unnerved Ahsoka.
It wasn’t just a powerful strength in the Force. There was a powerful presence beyond that. When Ahsoka studied the lamp, she noticed kyber crystals set into the metal. But they were unlike anything she had ever seen before. Instead of blue or green or even purple like Master Windu’s, the kyber crystals were pure white.

Excerpt:
Anakin reached for the golden circlet.
Instincts told Obi-Wan to scold him. That they shouldn’t touch mysterious things in a strange place that felt so heavy and strange in the Force. Yet, he felt unusually calm as he watched Anakin pick up the crown and place it on his head. Nestled in his dark blonde curls, the kyber crystals began to glow, illuminating the room in an eerie low light. Anakin deactivated the white lightsaber, and Obi-Wan felt his fingers move to turn his off as well. He set it aside rather than reclipping it to his belt.
When Anakin turned and touched the kyber crystal nestled in the recess near the vanity, it glowed to life and stayed lit even when he pulled away. All the while, Obi-Wan couldn’t keep his eyes off Anakin. The low light cast shadows off his face, illuminating his sharp jaw. Somehow his bright blue eyes seemed to gleam. The last little bits of Obi-Wan’s mindful focus fell to pieces.
“Does it suit me, Master?” Anakin said. His eyes locked onto Obi-Wan’s as an alluring lilt filled his voice. “What do you think?”
Anakin’s strength in the Force glowed like the sun, and despite the darkness in the room, Obi-Wan no longer felt afraid. He felt dizzy—like his mind had started to fracture apart. But Anakin’s presence weaved between those breaks and pulled them back together. It washed over him, and Obi-Wan stumbled closer. He reached out and trailed his fingers along the crown, then slowly started to comb his fingers through Anakin’s hair.
“A crown for a king,” he said softly. “It’s just as lovely as you are.”
Reality grew fuzzy around the edges. Part of Obi-Wan wondered what they were doing there, to begin with. He seemed to recall something about a war, something about a beacon and a droid. But it all felt far away. Like he was waking from a dream. All that mattered was Anakin. All that he could feel in the Force was Anakin. So powerful, so beautiful, so dear. And it felt wonderful—a dream come true.
A king doesn’t deserve to be in rags.
The thought flitted in and out of Obi-Wan’s mind. Like someone had whispered it in his ear. He blinked slowly as if his eyelids were fighting to close. A phantom weight of a hand fell on his shoulder. Featherlight touch ran down his arms to guide him.
“A king doesn’t deserve to be in rags,” Obi-Wan said, musing quietly as he trailed his hand down Anakin’s neck to rest on his shoulder. “Allow me, dear one.”
It felt so natural slowly sliding his hands under the edges of Anakin’s cloak and pushing it to the ground. Anakin watched him through half-closed eyes. Open adoration poured through their bond, and Obi-Wan thought it was his feelings, but Anakin’s eyes were tracing across his body too. He watched every movement of Obi-Wan’s hands as he slowly undid his sash and began to pull off his tabard.
All the while, Anakin remained compliant, easily allowing Obi-Wan to strip off his clothes. Pleasure poured from him into the Force, and a lazy smile tugged at his lips. As Obi-Wan slipped the last of Anakin’s tunics off of him, he trailed his fingers over his shoulders and down his arms. The soft glow from the kyber crystals gentled the scars across Anakin’s body.
As Obi-Wan slowly pulled down the trousers, he sank to his knees. Why shouldn’t he kneel at Anakin’s feet? It felt so natural, so right. Because Anakin glowed so bright in the Force. He was the Force, weaving and wrapping himself into the crevices of Obi–Wan’s soul. As Obi-Wan ran his hand along Anakin’s thigh down to his boot, he sat on the cushioned bench in front of the vanity. Once Anakin’s boots were removed, he was entirely naked aside from the crown.
“Beautiful,” Obi-Wan whispered, trailing his fingers over the inside of Anakin’s thighs and back up his chest. Yet it still wasn’t quite right. Something was missing.
Nestled between Anakin’s knees, Obi-Wan instinctively reached for a small container next to where the crowns had rested in velvet. He opened it to find shimmering golden paint. Dipping two fingers into it, Obi-Wan turned back to Anakin and started to smooth the gold across his forehead and down his cheeks. It didn’t take much thought to draw out the patterns. Part of Obi-Wan felt as if he had seen them before. As if he had traced them into Anakin’s skin thousands of times.
The process felt excruciatingly long, but Obi-Wan didn’t mind. It gave him more time to study every inch of Anakin, to learn the curves of his body, and memorize his quiet, hitched breaths. Where to press to elicit them. A fiery desire pooled deep in Obi-Wan’s chest. He wanted to press his lips to every inch of Anakin and lay him out before him. He wanted to taste every inch and breathe in every breath.

Excerpt:
Long black curtains hung over every window in the castle, blocking out any and all light. They were deep and dark—like funeral shrouds. Obi-Wan couldn’t help but be unnerved by the sight of them. Flickers of long-gone life flickered through the Force. Once the castle had been vibrant and beautiful. Whoever lived there had been beloved—that much Obi-Wan could sense. But there was also something darker and colder hiding behind those happy memories. Pain, suffering, and death lay in the stone walls as well.
A shadowy figure darted by, and Obi-Wan spun around to cast light on it. Twin green-yellow eyes blinked back at him. The creature was feline in appearance, with two tails swishing back and forth. Its long angular face studied Obi-Wan, then its eyes flickered to Anakin before it turned and darted away. When Obi-Wan looked around the room, he caught glimpses of other similar creatures. They all watched with intense stares, but Anakin didn’t seem to notice them.
At the far back of the room loomed a large portrait. It must have been antique, considering it appeared to be a painting rather than a digital image. Anakin wandered over to it, carefully shifting his lightsaber to cast enough light to examine it. Despite the general disrepair of the village, the portrait remained in relatively good condition. A light layer of dust covered it, but Obi-Wan could clearly distinguish three figures.
A woman stood on the right. Her long black hair was half down and half woven into intricate braids. A sparkling silver crown with white crystals set into it adorned her head. It wasn’t gaudy in any way, just a simple circlet. Spiraling silver designs covered her skin. They seemed similar to Twi’lek and Togrutan markings, but the woman appeared human. Instead of a gown, she wore a tunic, vest, and trousers, which had similar silver patterns though they were obviously meant to be stars and the moon. A silver belt wrapped around her waist, shimmering bright against her black clothing. A cape laid over her shoulders, clasped at the front with a silver chain running between two crescent moons.
A man stood on the left. His blonde hair sat in loose curls, smothered down by his golden crown. Much like the woman’s, it was relatively simple—just a gold circlet with white crystals set in it. He, too, had markings across his skin, golden swirls that disappeared under the bright white sleeves of a fancy collared shirt. A cape also hung around his shoulders, though it had two little suns connected by a golden chain.
Both the man and the woman had blue eyes, though the man’s were the color of the sky on a bright sunny day, and the woman’s were the color of the sky just before a storm. Both wore matching silver hilts, but Obi-Wan couldn’t see a blade on either of them. The man had one hand resting on the woman’s shoulder, and her hand lay against the small of his back. Obi-Wan let his eyes trail down.
Their other two hands rested on the shoulders of a small girl. She wore a blue dress, and her curly white hair barely brushed her shoulders. Instead of a crown, she wore a silver chained headpiece with a single white crystal over her forehead. Both suns and moons covered her jewelry and clothing. Her facial features were a perfect mix of her parents, and though their smiles were small and subtle, she wore an eager, overly wide grin. Protective fondness for the child filled Obi-Wan immediately. Which was strange as he had never met her.
Anakin reached out, brushing some dust from the portrait. “What happened to them?”
“I’m not sure.”
It may have been a trick of the light from their sabers, but Anakin’s eyes seemed glassy. His gaze stayed locked onto the portrait. “They were so happy. Can’t you feel it?”
Movement caught Obi-Wan’s attention, and he turned. A flickering form seemed to disappear around a corner, but it could have been a shadow. Still, he could have sworn that someone was there. Again the desire to leave leaped to the forefront of Obi-Wan’s mind.
“They were in love,” Anakin said breathlessly.
Obi-Wan reached out to grab Anakin’s sleeve, but he darted away. As Obi-Wan followed, his legs felt heavy. Each step took incredible focus. The air grew thick as they headed further into the castle. Even the Force felt weighed down, and Obi-Wan started desperately scrabbling to feel Anakin’s presence. Why did it feel like he was slipping away?
Shaking the strange feeling, Obi-Wan followed Anakin along the walls, examining them more closely. There were recesses set into the stone that Obi-Wan hadn’t been able to see until they were close. Identical crystals to the ones in the chandeliers were nestled in them. He had thought their blackness was simply due to the shadows, but they remained dark when Obi-Wan moved his lightsaber to get a better look. He hummed thoughtfully and reached out. The crystal hummed in return, and delight sparked through the Force.

Excerpt (below cut, spoilers):
When the sun set, it was time to face the Jedi Council. Despite Padmé’s reassurances, Anakin felt panic leaping into his chest. He entered the Council room alongside Mace, who then went and took his seat. Most of the Jedi Masters were there, but four seats were empty. Anakin could account for two of the Masters, knowing Palpatine had killed Kit Fisto and Shaak Ti was in the Halls of Healing. Anakin didn’t know who the other two Masters were, but they must have died on their respective missions.
Once the Council room doors shut, Anakin braced himself, knowing what was coming. He hoped Ahsoka and Padmé wouldn’t be too devastated by the Council’s decision to execute him. He knew that Obi-Wan would understand. It may sadden him, but it was the correct choice.
“Thought long and hard about your fate, we have,” Yoda said slowly. His ears twitched slightly. “Make a difficult decision, we must.”
“You’re many enigmas mixed into one, young Skywalker,” Plo Koon said with a solemn nod.
“Without you, we would have never discovered the secret of the clones,” Adi Gallia said—she must have been the cousin that Stass was referring to. “We would have all been killed.”
Mace cut in, “Yet you also served Darth Sidious for years as Darth Vader and opposed the Republic at every turn.”
“While also providing important intelligence for the Republic through your work with the 501st Clone Intelligence Brigade,” Depa said, glancing over at Mace. “Even if some of that information was also used against us.”
Mace nodded to her and sighed, leaning back in his seat. “So you can see why we’re so conflicted. But after long deliberation, we are all in agreement.”
Anakin prepared for the Jedi to pull their lightsabers and strike him down, but none of them moved. Instead, Yoda leaned forward on his cane and smiled, his ears raising slightly.
“Willing to keep this secret, we are.”
Sensing Anakin’s confusion, Mace cut in and elaborated, “When we give our full report to the Republic, we are willing to leave out that you were Darth Vader. We will tell them that he died alongside his master Darth Sidious and that you knew nothing of your adopted father’s true identity.”
“You’re not going to kill me?” Anakin spoke without even thinking.
The compassion reflected in all of the Jedi Master’s eyes surprised him. Depa leaned forward to speak, “No, Skywalker. We have seen enough destruction and death from this war. For a long time, we had lost our way in the darkness of it all. It is time for that to end.”
“But I don’t deserve this,” Anakin said. He couldn’t accept it, even as generous as it was. “I appreciate your kindness, Masters, but I don’t wish to lie to the Republic. There have been enough lies in my lifetime, and I can’t bear to do it anymore.”
To Anakin’s surprise, Mace smiled. “A respectable decision, Skywalker,” he said. “You’re right. We have had enough secrets to last several lifetimes.”
The rest of the Jedi Council murmured in agreement. Anakin still reeled from the shock that they weren’t going to kill him. Anakin wondered if he was dreaming. It surely couldn’t be real.
Mace relaxed back into his seat. “It will take time for the Republic to sort itself out, but in the meantime, you should continue to stay at the Temple. You’ll be safe here.”
“Worthy of being called the Chosen One you are,” Yoda said.
Everything Palpatine had ever taught him about the Jedi had been ripped to shreds before his very eyes. All because he had chosen to forsake the Sith and go against Palpatine’s plans. Choosing the light side earned their respect and trust without any strings attached. Without any demands or abuse. It was a love that Anakin had never known, and he didn’t understand how he had gone his whole life without it.
“Thank you, Masters,” Anakin said.

When they boarded the dropship, Obi-Wan sat next to Anakin rather than sit with the Jedi Masters. He glanced over at him but didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. Obi-Wan could feel his presence in the Force beaming bright and hopeful. With a quiet sigh, Obi-Wan reached out, lightly laying his hand on Anakin’s knee.
“I don’t know if you really are the Chosen One,” he said softly. “I don’t believe it matters. You’re one of the strongest Force users in the galaxy. It would be foolish not to ask for your help defeating Palpatine.”
“Good pep talk,” Anakin said with a slight smirk. However, his expression grew serious again. “We’re going to end this today, I promise.”
Obi-Wan wanted to believe him. He looked up and met Anakin’s gaze. His eyes shone bright blue, unlike when he first arrived on Kamino. That sickly golden had shaken Obi-Wan to the core. When they fought against Dooku together, Anakin’s eyes had returned to normal and stayed that way. Obi-Wan reached up, gently brushing a stray curl out of Anakin’s face.
“No matter what happens,” Obi-Wan said quietly as worry ran wild through him. He may not survive to see the end of the day. “Promise me you will defeat Sidious. No matter what must be sacrificed.”
Anakin looked like he was about to protest, but then he nodded. “I promise, Obi-Wan.”
Obi-Wan leaned closer—nearly leaned in to kiss Anakin, but he stopped himself. Drawing back, Obi-Wan rested his forehead on Anakin’s shoulder instead. He let down his shields, let down his guard, and let the warmth of Anakin’s presence surround him. Despite everything, it still brought him comfort. Reaching up, Anakin rested his hand on the back of Obi-Wan’s neck, slowly smoothing his thumb across his skin.
They stayed like that until the dropship arrived, and even then, Obi-Wan refused to leave Anakin’s side. As they approached, Obi-Wan’s heart dropped at the sight of Kit Fisto’s body lying motionless before the entrance. Mace knelt beside him, gently closing his eyes.
“He’s still warm,” he said softly. “Sidious has not escaped us yet.”
All of the Jedi and Anakin lit their lightsabers at once. Two droids rolled out from around the corner when they entered the warehouse and began to fire on them. Mace blocked the shots as Shaak Ti raced around to disable them. At the same time, wheezing sounded from above them.
“Foolish Jedi,” General Grievous said as he descended the stairs. “You will die here.”
When Grievous lit his lightsabers, Mace and Shaak Ti rushed forward to meet him. Anakin started to go as well, but Mace turned back and waved him away. “Go, Skywalker! Stop Sidious before it’s too late.”

Excerpt (below cut, spoilers):
While the Kamnioans went peacefully, Anakin could feel their irritation bubbling in the Force. They narrowed their eyes at him, watching as he followed Shaak Ti over to the console. She had been given access to the clone controls early on in the project. It was a risk Palpatine was willing to take in order to gain the Jedi’s trust.
“There are 150 contingency orders contained within the inhibitor chips,” Shaak Ti said as she logged into the system. “I never took the time to review them all, trusting the Chancellor’s word. It was a foolish oversight.”
“Sidious’ plan relied on hiding key information in plain sight,” Anakin said with a sigh. “He used the Jedi’s compassion and trust in order to trick you. That was why the clones were used, to begin with. Because they’re living beings.”
Shaak Ti was silent at that, though Anakin felt a slight twinge of sadness spreading in the Force. She opened the list of contingency orders and stepped aside. Anakin scrolled through the list and then stopped on Order 66. He swallowed and stared at the words.
“ ‘In the event of Jedi officers acting against the interests of the Republic, and after receiving specific orders verified as coming directly from the Chancellor, GAR clone commanders and officers will remove those Jedi by lethal force, and command of the GAR will revert to the Chancellor until a new command structure is established,’ ” he read. “This is Order 66. Sidious’ ultimate plan to destroy the Jedi Order.”
Shaak Ti leaned closer, staring at the words and reading them quietly to herself. Then, she shifted and opened the order, expanding it across the screen. Once fully opened, the exception was readable to all. Anakin lowered his head, too ashamed to even look at the words.
“There’s more,” Shaak Ti said softly. “Care to explain this part, Skywalker?” When Anakin didn’t respond, she quietly read, “ ‘An exception is to be made for Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi who is to be captured unharmed and imprisoned indefinitely.’ ”
Horror sparked through the Force as Obi-Wan stepped forward. “Anakin, you planned to imprison me?”
There was no point in denying it. “I did,” Anakin said, raising his head to meet Obi-Wan’s gaze. “So that we could be together. Sidious allowed it to keep me from disobeying him.”
If Obi-Wan had been furious before, it didn’t even compare to the rage in his eyes at that moment. His hand fell to his lightsaber, gripping it tight as he stepped forward. “Does your arrogance and possessiveness know no bounds? What about Ahsoka? Were you going to let the clones slaughter her? How could you?”
“I obviously couldn’t, Obi-Wan!” Anakin snapped, unable to smother his frustration down anymore. “Because you made me care. You made me care about the Jedi—about everyone whose blood would have been on my hands. I knew you would never forgive me, especially not when you saw this.”
“Enough,” Shaak Ti said, stepping between Obi-Wan and Anakin. She gently pushed Obi-Wan back. “Take your Padawan and ensure the perimeter is safe, Knight Kenobi.”
“But, Master, we shouldn’t leave you alone with—”
“I will be fine.”
When Obi-Wan and Ahsoka left the room, Shaak Ti turned back to Anakin. He was surprised by the compassion in her eyes. Reaching out, she laid a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Your contingency surprised me, Anakin,” she said. “I believed that you had told Obi-Wan the truth only in order to spare his life. It appears I was wrong.”
“It wasn’t purely noble,” Anakin quickly said, protesting the assumption he realized she was making. “The Jedi are Obi-Wan’s family. Even if he survived, he would be miserable without them. So I still did it for him.”
“I believe it is more than just that. You were not willing to slaughter an entire people. That was what brought you to the light.”
Anakin was about to protest again but failed to find the words.
“It is a shame,” Shaak Ti said, a sad smile crossing her face. “In a different lifetime you might have made a good Jedi.”

Excerpt (below cut, spoilers):
“No. It cannot be,” Obi-Wan whispered.
It was a dream.
It couldn’t be real.
Anakin couldn’t be Darth Vader—it was impossible.
Obi-Wan stared at the glowing red blade. Upon examining the hilt more closely, he realized it was exactly the same as Darth Vader’s. The same lightsaber that he had fought against countless times. The same one that scarred Ahsoka.
Slowly, Obi-Wan tore his eyes off of the weapon and looked at Anakin. He met his gaze briefly before dropping his head down in shame. Obi-Wan took a step back as a cold chill filled him. It was as if he couldn’t breathe.
There had to be another explanation. Yet, he held a Sith lightsaber in his hands, and Anakin looked more ashamed and guilty than Obi-Wan had ever seen him. Obi-Wan’s mind started to try to rationalize it. He tried to fake a smile.
“Anakin, this isn’t funny,” he said, voice shaking.
It was a prank. The clone intelligence unit must have captured Vader. Anakin was simply fooling with him.
“I’m not joking,” Anakin said. His voice trembled as he continued, “Palpatine is Darth Sidious. He took me from Tatooine when I was young and trained me in the dark side. I—” He broke off and drew in a shaky breath. “I’m sorry.”
Then it had to be a dream. Obi-Wan must have fallen asleep beside Anakin and was about to wake any moment. But everything felt too real. Closing his eyes for a moment, Obi-Wan tried to will himself awake.
Please, he begged with the Force. Let it be a nightmare. Don’t tell me this is real. Don’t let me have fallen for a lie.
“Obi-Wan?”
The Force didn’t answer, and Obi-Wan didn’t wake up. It was all painfully real.
“All this time?” Obi-Wan whispered, opening his eyes once more. Each word grew louder than the last. “You’ve been tricking me, using me to—what? Gather intelligence for the Sith, sow further discontent in the galaxy?”
"Never, Obi-Wan," Anakin said. Desperation filled his eyes as he stepped closer. “I love you. I never used you.”
Realization crashed all around Obi-Wan as he turned off the lightsaber and took another step backward. “Drop your shields, Vader.”
“Don’t call me that. Just let me explain.”
“Explain what? How you’ve been lying to me? Using me? You—” Obi-Wan broke off as every memory of Vader invaded his mind, tangling the Sith’s identity with Anakin’s. “It was you that I fought the night of the attack on the Elite. All while I had been worrying for your safety!” He froze and clenched his hands. “Did you kill him—did you kill Qui-Gon? Was Maul lying?”
“Obi-Wan, please just listen to me.”

Excerpt:
Anakin hurried through the halls of the Jedi Temple, ignoring the passing stares of Jedi Knights and Padawans. Throughout the course of the war, he became more well-known. Though he primarily worked with Obi-Wan and the 212th, there were times he went on missions with other Jedi Knights and even some of the Masters of the Council. So he was not an unfamiliar face. Again, the looming threat of Order 66 curled into his mind. Would the Jedi be shocked to be betrayed by him? Would they be saddened by it? He shook his head and cleared his mind. It didn’t matter. He couldn’t let it matter.
When Anakin reached the Halls of Healing, a young Padawan smiled at him. He faintly recognized her as Luminara’s Padawan and one of Ahsoka’s friends—Barriss. “Anakin Skywalker,” she said with a respectful bow of her head. “Knight Kenobi said you would be coming to see Ahsoka.”
“He insisted,” Anakin said, smothering down his apprehension.
“She seems a little better,” Barriss said with a smile. “I’m sure she will be happy to see you.”
With another slight bow of her head, Barriss hurried past him, leaving him alone to enter Ahsoka’s room. He took a deep breath and walked in, the door sliding open and then closing once more as he stepped inside. Immediately, Ahsoka’s eyes snapped to him, apprehension filling her gaze and sparking into the Force.
“Hey, Snips,” Anakin said, keeping his voice soft. “How do you feel?”
“Don’t lie to me, Anakin,” Ahsoka said immediately. “What I saw was real, wasn’t it? You’re Darth Vader.”
Walking over, Anakin slowly sat beside Ahsoka’s bed and reached out to take her hand. She let him but stayed stiff and at attention, ready to fight if need be. Anakin struggled to find something to say to comfort her. There was no point in lying to her. Especially when she had already kept his identity a secret.
“I would never hurt you, Ahsoka, never.”
It was the truth, and he knew Ahsoka could sense that. Her anger melted away, and she shifted, throwing her arms around him in a tight hug. “I know,” Ahsoka said, voice wavering. She buried her face in his neck as he let out a relieved sigh as he hugged her back. “Even back on Akiva, you didn’t try to hurt me. You saved my life. Even on Tatooine, you spared me.”
A part of Anakin knew he should have protested, should have insisted that he wasn’t Darth Vader, but he remained silent. He was tired of keeping secrets. So tired of lying to all those he loved. He leaned his head against Ahsoka’s and sighed, closing his eyes.
Ahsoka pulled away and met his gaze, a pleading expression in her eyes. “Tell Obi-Wan the truth,” she begged. “We can defeat Sidious together. We can save you.”
“The Jedi don’t have that power,” Anakin said softly. “Haven’t you felt it, Ahsoka? The galaxy grows darker every day.”
“We could do it together,” Ahsoka said with a small smile. “Trust us, Anakin.”
Suddenly unsure, Anakin glanced away. He swallowed, closing his eyes with a pained look. “Obi-Wan would never forgive me.”

Oh my god I just wanted to let you know of an amazing thing that happened (I hope it’s not too confusing In trying to avoid Spoliers
So I was reading Chancellor’s Son chapter 22 as one does (It’s the only thing I’ve been reading the last three days) and I was listening to a playlist named soemthing like dancing with the Villian and it all this classical music, well right before the Thing happens all the music fades out to silence as I read Her say His name and then the moment I went to the next paragraph the music comes in as the beautifully tragic feeling crescendo it was literally so perfect
Also im so I love with this story you’ve done a phenomenal job on this I love it so much!!! Cant wait for what you’ve got planned next
Don’t worry, I know exactly which part you mean. That sounds so fun! I feel like that’s exactly how it would’ve gone down if it was in the show/movies.
I’m so happy you’ve been enjoying it. I’m really happy I finally got around to fully writing it and getting it out on AO3. I don’t want to spoil anything but I’m pretty excited about the upcoming chapters. ;)

Excerpt:
“You’ve met your doom here, Jedi,” Vader said, mask distorting his voice as always. Ahsoka glared at him as they circled the room. “Leave now or I will be forced to kill you.”
“I am not leaving until I discover the secrets of this place,” Ahsoka said, pursing her lips tight.
“You are going to get yourself killed.”
“I am not the little girl you fought back on Tatooine,” Ahsoka said, raising her lightsabers again.
For a moment, Vader seemed to falter. Ahsoka sensed a feeling of recognition ebbing through the Force. “No,” he said. “I suppose you’re not.”
Before either of them got the chance to strike, the cave was rocked by another explosion. Underneath their feet, Ahsoka saw patterns crisscrossing the floor. Had they been there before? When she and Vader struck out at each other again, the patterns began to glow. Ahsoka couldn’t figure out what language they were in and what they said, but it didn’t matter. The floor opened before Ahsoka could scramble away, and the pair of them fell into the darkness.
Ringing filled Ahsoka’s ears as she lay aching on the floor.
From somewhere beyond her comprehension, Ahsoka could hear a voice. It was familiar, but she couldn’t quite place it. Ahsoka tried to force herself to open her eyes, feeling a gentle hand on her cheek. Yet, she was drifting in and out of consciousness, barely even able to move at all.
The Force hummed around Ahsoka as she reached out with it to sense whoever was by her side. As Ahsoka twisted and turned, she heard the voice more solidly. But it was still distorted.
Whoever was there smoothed their hand across her forehead as they spoke, “You’re going to be alright, Ahsoka. It’s alright.”

Summary:
With another groan, Obi-Wan shifted. He blinked up at Cody; eyes squinted from the light on his helmet. Squeezing Cody’s hand, Obi-Wan asked, voice soft and hopeful, “Anakin?”
For a split second, Cody wished the rocks had crushed him. He swallowed, mouth suddenly dry as he reached up and turned down his light. “No, sir.”
Cody had resigned himself to the fact that Obi-Wan loved another, but that didn't make it hurt less. It didn't make it fair.
Excerpt:
No one else seemed to have survived the cave-in. Every trooper Cody stopped to check had no signs of life or were obviously crushed underneath the rocks. Though he saw a bit of light filtering through part of the rocks and heard voices from the other side. Some of the scouting team must have avoided the collapse altogether. They would return to the camp and bring help. In the meantime, Cody needed to maintain a singular focus on keeping Obi-Wan alive.
Locating the med kit, Cody managed to yank it out of the pile it was buried in. Besides a few dents, it seemed otherwise intact. He returned to Obi-Wan’s side and began to clean the wound with bacta. Every clone was required to take basic first aid courses, but Cody went beyond that. He made sure that he was nearly as well trained as any medic. Which proved to be useful time and time again.
As Cody finished securing the bandage, Obi-Wan stirred. He groaned and reached blindly, catching Cody’s hand in his. It was then that Cody realized he hadn’t put his glove back on. He curled his fingers with Obi-Wan’s without thinking. Though the clamminess of Obi-Wan’s skin concerned him, part of Cody felt warmth curling in his chest.
“It’s alright,” Cody said, voice hoarse and shaking.
“No, sir.”
“Ah, my apologies, Commander.”
Then Obi-Wan gently pulled his hand away, and Cody could do nothing except let him go. He tried to hide his heartache behind a terse report. “Most of the others were killed in the collapse. However, it seems that a few troopers were caught on the other side. I suspect that they have returned to camp to find help.”
“Are you hurt at all?” Obi-Wan asked as he tried to sit up. “I can—” He broke off with a pained gasp, and Cody forced him to lay back down.
Lying to a superior officer was a steep offense. One that could get a member of the GAR discharged and even executed. Yet, there was no way to explain the pain that had settled behind Cody’s ribs and grew more with each passing week. “I’m fine, General,” he lied. “Lay still. I’ll try to get communications through the rubble.”
It didn’t take long. In less than an hour, the rest of their landing party was there. The rocks blocking the way were blasted out of the way and a mix of surviving 212th troopers alongside the 501st rushed in to help. Cody waved aside attempts to check him for injuries and instead found his eyes glued to Anakin.
“Obi-Wan!”
Anakin practically shoved Kix out of the way as he rushed to Obi-Wan’s side. When he reached out, Obi-Wan took his hand immediately. They curled their fingers together as Anakin smoothed Obi-Wan’s hair aside. He kept his hand gently resting over his forehead. There was no doubt in Cody’s mind that it was accompanied by some additional touch of the Force. All of the clones had heard rumors of the bonds the Jedi shared with one another. Bonds unmatched by anything else. Anakin’s presence was a gentle, soothing touch that Cody could never imitate.
