...So evil ones should get a little more.
Recently, I was listening to Laplace's Angel, and I started to think about how it tied into the Normal Albums themes as a whole. If you don't know, the Normal Album is a music album created by Will Wood. The album's main themes are about identity, what it means, mental health, and dissatisfaction with mental health care.
Laplace's Angel is about a murderer talking to us. He speaks about how everyone has the capability of murder, everyone has a breaking point. Everyone has something that they would commit murder for, so is it really right to judge him? Is he really that bad? After all, if you were in his shoes, you'd wear the same size as him.
Taken literally, it doesn't really coincide with the rest of the album. It's a song about death, which could coincide with The Most Important Thing in the World or (loosely) I/Me/Myself, but I think those kinds of comparisons are too big of a stretch.
So I sit and I think.
Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialectics, but I Need You to Leave is a song criticizing modern therapy; how the things in a persons head define them and how they seek these labels out because they think it will solve their problems. What's a symptom, what's a flaw? Why are we defined by the things that are wrong with us? Why do we feel the need to mold our experiences to a label, so that we may seek help? So that we may be judged?
We shouldn't be treated differently because we experience the world in a different way. Perhaps the onus is on society for demonizing those who are not typical, whatever typical is. And, given the chance, most of us probably wouldn't get rid of the problems we have. In a way, our unique experience mold our unique views of the world, and that's important. I bet you wouldn't even if you could change, the things that make you special are the things that make you strange.
To come back to Laplace's Angel with this context, it's clear what it is about. It's a metaphor for people with mental illness. For a neurotypical to be compared to someone with BPD? Ridiculous. Preposterous. "I'm nothing like THEM."
Who do you really think the "evil" ones who should get a little more are? Because it isn't murderers, I can tell you that.

thoughts on uzumakis ending
so, the trailer for uzumaki that dropped a couple days ago finally kicked me into reading the last few chapters of the manga, something i had been putting off for a while, and my... the ending is fantastic. i really liked it.
spoilers for uzumaki if you havent read it.
the ending is kind of beautiful. i am all for bittersweet endings, especially in horror. at times, it can feel like the creator is phoning it in when allowing the main protagonist/s to defeat the overwhelming odds and emerge victorious.
uzumaki does not do this. they ostensibly win. let me explain.
Tumblr media
kirie and shuichi traverse down into the depths of the dragonfly pond, discovering one of the most horrific things in the entire manga: (to me, anyway) several monoliths dedicated to the spiral, all interconnected, all breathing, all alive. they have caused all of this. they did all of this. they are directly confronted by what has made them both miserable for the past who even knows how long.
and its inescapable.
once they have reached the belly of this beast, there is no way back out. shuichi cant even move his legs anymore.
so what do you think they do? give up? no.
they show one final act of defiance.
Tumblr media
they embrace each other. they show that despite everything theyve been through, despite everyone else being dead, despite their entire town being capsized, despite everything, they still love each other.
down in this pit, time slows until it seems not to pass. so in this forever-moment they are stuck, embracing each other. utilizing the very thing that has tortured them so to immortalize their love for each other.
idk man, i think its kind of beautiful. i love it.

somewhat unrelated, but im also very mad i care so much about what people think of me. i gotta stop that
sometimes, taking the leap and actually working on a project can be very hard and taxing. i really wish this wasnt the case, it drives me up a wall sometimes. id to decrease my time on youtube specifically, if i did that i would get distracted a whole lot less. im just not sure how to do that yet. but the idea is there! and thats whats important.

Bloodborne Thought Dump
I love eldritch horror/lovecraftian horror/cosmic horror. It’s such a fucking fun genre to delve into. I always had a budding interest in the genre, but Bloodborne really turned me onto it entirely. Bloodborne is eldritch horror done perfectly in the gaming media. I genuinely think it’s impossible to outdo it.
The gothic setting is perfect, the amazing art direction is perfect, the combat is perfect, you get it. The insight mechanic is fucking immaculate as well; no other cosmic horror game I’m aware of has a mechanic like that that is so well integrated and utilized.
Bloodborne is so masterfully weird, unabashedly so; something I think is required of the genre. Playing into themes of rebirth and birth and death and doing it in such an artful and completely fucking weird way is one of the many things I love about it so much. In no other game will I be able to constantly hear the distant cries of a baby after I have reached a certain threshold of important currency.
and vicar amelia is hot
