I can’t wait to see him continue healing in book 2. 😭

It’s high time I talk about Jerejean. The pacing of Jerejean is just perfect to me. Like in each POV, they’re checking each other out constantly. Jean is equal parts ashamed and frustrated in bisexual. And Jeremy is like “This is a bad idea… But oh no he’s hot.”

But this internalized attraction doesn’t bleed too far into how they interact. They feel natural. Circumstantial, sure, but their relationship is still blooming like a daffodil. Jean is still bringing in the Raven mindset when it comes to Jeremy, but their chemistry is off the rails even then. We get a reciprocated hug! We get multiple chin grabs, but more importantly “Who did this to you?” We get Jeremy rushing to Jean’s aid when he’s choking himself. We get Jeremy trying his absolute best to take care of Jean. To listen to him. To show him it’s okay to be vulnerable. We get the duo: Jean “I want to be left alone” and Jeremy “Even by me?” We get Jean admitting to himself after Jermey said, “Stay with me” that it’s the safest he’s ever felt in his room and, more slyly, there’s enough room for two beds. Jeremy might be doing it out of a sense of duty, because Kevin trusted him, because he’s just a good person. After all, Jean says that the captain of the Sunshine court can’t be a villain; but how long till he realizes that his care for Jean runs deeper than that and vice versa?

Either way, Jerejean is perfect in this novel. This is pure attraction, secrets, and an ending we’re dying to hear. Nora left food for thought about Jeremy’s past and left room for Jerejean to grow. They’re just as deep and intricate as other relationships in this series, even if the readers are more aware of their attraction towards one another. But most importantly, there’s hope for them. Kevin and Renee have to be mentioned here. We have unrequited love or a relationship that they will never be able to properly repair (</3), and a right person wrong time problem.

Jean has had these “failed” romantic relationships. But it’s all for a reason and I just neeeeeed to see where Jean and Jeremy do it right. I love them, your honor.

These four as a group need to be talked about more. All three of them accepted Jean with open arms and were the first group of people to take their time buying him new clothes, including him, taking him on runs, just overall being patient even if Jean had a completely different way of thinking about things. They were the first people outside of the loop on the Ravens and Moriyama’s that coxed some vulnerable stories out of Jean— And never shamed him for how much or little he revealed. They exposed him to “normal” activities, like when they taught him to cook (well not Jeremy. Keep that man out the kitchen), and when Cat took him on that motorcycle ride because she knew Jean needed to clear his head, expecting nothing in return. Jeremy even moved in Jean’s room and became his partner to help Jean adjust better.

Like I need more discussions and acknowledgment about this tragic group of gays and how they took care of my boy like 😭😭

This part makes me VIOLENTLY ILL. I need to know which home Jean’s talking about. At this point had Jean considered the relatively new safety and comfort of Jeremy, Cat, and Laila (maybe some other Trojans) to be home? Is he still referring to the Ravens nest, full of brutality, but people he loves, people he hates? Or is it Marseille, the birthplace of his pain and himself, bearing in mind everything he had just learned from Stuart?

It’s ambiguous for a reason, but it so important because it shows his character development. It tells us where Jean is at the moment. Is he still stuck with the Ravens, or even farther back in time— Yearning for France and his sister. Or is he living in the present, making a home where he’s finally got people to shelter him and keep him safe.

jeremy so far has been the most avoidant pov in the world because what the hell are his issues? he's not even looking directly at them he's looking around them or focusing on everyone else's issues so he doesn't acknowledge his own

like with neil there was immediate acknowledgement with the memory of his mother's burning corpse but jeremy? nothing. is it parental issues? sibling issues? self issues? why was he in therapy? did he do something? did something happen to him? who knows? he does but he's not gonna look at all that when he can look at jean instead

jeremy is neil's 'i'm fine' personified times ten thousand he's so fine he doesn't even need to say it
