How to Handle Having TOO MUCH To Do
So let’s say you’re in the same boat I am (this is a running theme, have you noticed?) and you’ve just got, like, SO MUCH STUFF that HAS to get done YESTERDAY or you will DIE (or fail/get fired/mope). Everything needs to be done yesterday, you’re sick, and for whatever reason you are focusing on the least important stuff first. What to do!
Take a deep breath, because this is a boot camp in prioritization.
Make a 3 by 4 grid. Make it pretty big. The line above your top row goes like this: Due YESTERDAY - due TOMORROW - due LATER. Along the side, write: Takes 5 min - Takes 30 min - Takes hours - Takes DAYS.
Divide ALL your tasks into one of these squares, based on how much work you still have to do. A thank you note for a present you received two weeks ago? That takes 5 minutes and was due YESTERDAY. Put it in that square. A five page paper that’s due tomorrow? That takes an hour/hours, place it appropriately. Tomorrow’s speech you just need to rehearse? Half an hour, due TOMORROW. Do the same for ALL of your tasks
Your priority goes like this:
5 minutes due YESTERDAY
5 minutes due TOMORROW
Half-hour due YESTERDAY
Half-hour due TOMORROW
Hours due YESTERDAY
Hours due TOMORROW
5 minutes due LATER
Half-hour due LATER
Hours due LATER
DAYS due YESTERDAY
DAYS due TOMORROW
DAYS due LATER
At this point you just go down the list in each section. If something feels especially urgent, for whatever reason - a certain professor is hounding you, you’re especially worried about that speech, whatever - you can bump that up to the top of the entire list. However, going through the list like this is what I find most efficient.
Some people do like to save the 5 minute tasks for kind of a break between longer-running tasks. If that’s what you want to try, go for it! You’re the one studying here.
So that’s how to prioritize. Now, how to actually do shit? That’s where the 20/10 method comes in. It’s simple: do stuff like a stuff-doing FIEND for 20 minutes, then take a ten minute break and do whatever you want. Repeat ad infinitum. It’s how I’ve gotten through my to do list, concussed and everything.
You’ve got this. Get a drink and start - we can do our stuff together!

Before School Checklist
Tumblr media
I wrote something similar to this a few months ago, but I think it would be more helpful to be in checklist form instead of a sequence of things to do like I had before.
The Night Before:
Do your nightly routine - wash your face, brush your teeth, shower, lotion, moisturize, comb your hair, take your medicine, remove your makeup
Check your planner for any assignments you may have missed
Plan for tomorrow
Make your lunch
Set your alarm!
Briefly review what you learned/studied today
Pack your backpack for tomorrow. Check to make sure you have your wallet, ID, keys, material for each class, due assignments, notebooks, folders, etc. that you need, a pen/pencil, highighters
Tidy up your space a bit
Drink a glass of water before bed
Do something to relax
The Morning Before:
Eat a healthy breakfast – seriously, brain food
Get ready – wash your face, brush your teeth, do your makeup, get dressed, take your medicine
Double check your backpack and planner, in case you forgot anything
Complete any of the tasks you forgot or just didn’t do last night, like making your lunch

I finally got around to taking pictures of my desk to post!
I never had a desk in high school, so purchasing this one over the summer was honestly like a dream. I hunted for the perfect decorations and printables and organizers all summer, and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

june study challenge day 18: today is father’s day in the u.s.! describe your dad or another male role model that has helped you in your academic life. my dad’s a food chemist, so between him and my mother’s microbiology work i literally grew up inside labs and we lived inside the campus itself. he’s a very good teacher and he knows so much, cooking with him is so interesting and yet he’s never pushed me towards science like the rest of my family, he always encouraged me to make my own choices. i look up to him a lot, since he has to deal with being an immigrant and a non native speaker of portuguese, and yet he works so hard and has achieved so much! besides he’s created & published optimized chromatography methods and imo that’s really cool

Quick Morning Magick
Here are some quick magickal techniques you can use first thing in the morning to help make your day go a little easier!
Morning Shower Meditation - use the element of water to cleanse yourself of any lingering negativity from the previous day. Use herbal soaps, herbal bags for aromatherapy, oils, or other means to help you focus on your intent to wash away negative energy down the drain.
Light some incense - I do this on most mornings to set a tone for how I want the day to proceed. Aromas can produce powerful emotions and moods. Here’s a brief list of some of my favorites scents and some of their attributes.
Frankincense and Myrrh - uplifting
Amber - comfort, healing, and happiness
Cinnamon - success and strength
Jasmine - love and wisdom
Pine - grounding
Altar Devotion/Invocations - You can light some candles on your altar and speak some invocations for your deities to guide you throughout the day. I do a Goddess Devotion every morning to ask Her for her strength, vitality, love, and intuition to guide me.
Breakfast - Even your breakfast can be spiritual! You are filling yourself with the nourishment that the Earth has provided you with. Be conscious of what you eat. Try fruits, oatmeal, grits, milk, juices, meats, and breads to start your morning by showing your gratitude to all that is.
Glass of Water - Having a glass of water in the morning can be used to cleanse the body, just like the shower. You can even do an herbal tea blend to incite a mood just as the incense does.
Yoga and Exercise - This can also be a form of meditation in the morning.
Dream Journals - You can keep a dream journal by your bed so you can record your dreams in the morning when you first wake up. Writing can also be considered a form of meditation and getting into a routine can become your personal ritual.
Greet the Sun - Going for a walk outside or just watching the sunrise can be a very powerful ritual. The Sun lends us its strength, passion, and love as we go about our busy day. Greet the sun and ask it for guidance.

Tumblr media
Your friends are what make your experience, so pick wisely and don’t ditch/ turn on your friends for relationships, that’s a shitty thing to do.
Your life doesn’t start when you go to college, or when you move out or when you graduate, you’re in the middle of life right now! so don’t don’t be lazy, go out and start doing!
GROUND BREAKING NEWS: adults are humans too, so cut them some slack, yeah they should be held to high standards but sometimes you just gotta realize that were all just people trying to make it through this shit storm we call life. Your life will be so much easier when you realize this.
Not knowing what you want to do is OK , I know we’re all fed that shit about “knowing what to do with your life” but guess what? you don’t need to have your life figured out at the rip old age of 16 or 17. Don’t get intimidated! just take classes you like, join clubs that sound interesting to you and you’ll be fine.
Your gonna fall in love and get over things in the blink of an eye, don’t ever feel ashamed about that, its you time to figure your shit out, so don’t ever feel bad for letting something go that doesn’t suit you anymore.
That person whose life you think is doing high school right, shits, cries and feel like shit too. bottom line you can admire people but stop idolizing them, they’re human too.
Guys/girls can be asshole, high school relationships can be fickle, so don’t be that person who spends their whole high school career fixated on relationships, there’s more to life than that!
Your friendships may fade and thats okay, it all goes back to that whole thing of figuring yourself out, so if you see a relationship start to fade don’t sweat it too much. The friendships you’ll be glad lasted are the one you didnt need to hold on too tight to keep.
Don’t be afraid to be weird, I know in high school your first reaction is to assimilate yourself so you don’t stick out but newsflash: normal is different for everybody and your interest may not be normal for someone else but thats their business.
AND LASTLY…..high school may or not suck for you, but either way its only four years of your life . Everyone isn’t going to have the stereotypical experience because everyone doesn’t have a stereotypical life, and that’s beautiful thing.

25.11.17 Tidying up Loose Ends 🎐
ft. Creme caramel from Koi Dessert Cafe!
Finished off the perimetry assignment I had to do, which took no time because I’m too emotionally drained to get anxious about it. Then some emails which I had been waiting until after orals to do. And then I’ve just been answering tumblr questions since! I’m going to do a separate blog post for what I want to achieve now that I’ve graduated because that’s such a long list.
Today I woke up late, enjoyed the weather and spent the morning chilling to Red Velvet’s new album Perfect Velvet. I recommend:
🎵 The title track Peek A Boo - the bass is divine, and I loved the American Horror story concept of the MV
🎵 Look for a disco/retro stunner
🎵 Kingdom Come for an edgy jazz club chill
🎵 Perfect 10 for a psychedelic love dedication, and
🎵 About Love for a spring melody
Exercised for like the first time in 10 months probably. Now that I’ve finished my exams I want to actually get fit, I’m hoping to lower my resting heart rate to like 70 bpm? At the moment it’s like wayyyyyyy too high to be healthy, like 90s :(
