jack and taylor just aren't challenging each other creatively anymore. Max Martin was the key behind her big pop moments in 1989. I say this as a fan of her pop albums. it's not hitting the same, she needs new blood in the studio. I'm not even saying Dessner. I'm saying someone completely new because her music is blending together.
can totally see where you’re coming from and wholeheartedly agree!! i def think she should branch out producer-wise cause it does get repetitive over time (which doesn’t make the songs bad, but it does make them lose their spark when it’s one after another).
i think where the antonoff hate gets to me is when it’s so obvious the ppl complaining are those who came post-evermore/folklore and want only that sort of vibe! which….after these pt 2 tracks really shows why that doesn’t work bc it’s just as repetitive as jack’s synth sounds!
idk!! but totally agree that taylor is getting too comfortable. i think midnights was a great example (despite the criticism….) of experimenting with new sounds but maintaining cohesiveness (see: labyrinth, bejeweled, midnight rain). this album is….not that to me as of rn.

relistened to the standard edition on my way home from work and it is just INSANE to me how much but daddy i love him clears the entire rest of the album just by virtue of being a song 1) with a decent hook 2) that focuses more on directly telling a story 3) without relying on shoehorning in vocab words or three mixed metaphors per line 4) and which stands on its own instead of being a lore dump for taylor swift’s love life
