A page from my sketchbook where I was exploring some cultural aspect of the elven culture Luin & Aela are from. Specifically the use of hairstyles (here braids) to show social status
Here's it's mostly about showing elven & human heritage (which determines whether someone has elven or human citizenship, since both people cohabit on the Arvor Islands), and showing marital status. There would also be specific styles for children at specific ages, nobility status, civil servants, etc. but I haven't thought about these. Yet
Experimenting with Spartha's design at the beginning of his story, which is also the earliest story in the Songs projects chronologically
At that point he's barely an adult, and still pretty shy and struggling to assert himself - pretty far from his future strong and (over)confident persona he'll develop in the latest stories
He just wants to hide in some remote place to make his little paintings
A pretty useful technique (allowing you to reproduce an image at the same or even a different scale), that I really, really hope I won't ever have to put into practice for anything over than lineart, because oh gods does it take forever and ever and is boring as fuck. Like, I know why it's important to know it but please

Last week's art practice, some small still life studies
I had to stop doing my regular art exercises when I moved, but now that I can do them again I'll try to take the habit to post them a bit more often
I will not leave Tumblr, but if anyone wants to follow me on other places, I have a Carrd I keep updated regularly with all my other socials
Right now I'm not being very active on either Mastodon or Bluesky, but I'll start posting some of my old art on them. Inkblot is mostly a portfolio website with only finished art.
I'm also keeping an eye on Cara and Cohost, and I'm seriously considering opening a Patreon with a free tier, where I would post unwatermarked images and longer worldbuilding/project ramblings
I'll keep posting here because that's where most of my audience is, and I love you guys too much, and also I'm tired of running. i'm not fleeing anymore. But since my laptop is way too old to run Glaze or Nightshade, I'll put bigger watermarks on my art for now on.
Sorry, the tech bros are why we can't have nice things u_u
I did the Hiveworks' kiss challenge with my blorbos! Kisses aren't really something I'm used to draw, so it was a nice challenge
From left to right and top to bottom, we have:
Luin and Spartha. Luin is not a very tactile person and Spartha can be a little of a mother hen sometimes, but Luin will take being embarrassed by his dad in front of his friends over not having a dad at all (a situation he was well too familiar with for way too long)
Stefan and his wife (still unnamed). Their marriage was purely political, and Stefan is aromantic anyway so there's never been any kind of romantic feelings between them. They did however develop a strong friendship over the years, and despite the centuries since she died, Stefan still calls her his best friend
Sasha and Tristan. Their romance (along with Marietta and Sasha's -not it's not a love triangle, it's a polycule kind of situation) is the only one that unfolds through the story, as all the others are already established. It's not a central part of the story, but it still has a non-negligible influence on their respective characters' arcs (centering around self-acceptance for Tristan, and learning to question authority for Sasha)
Safiyah and Tanith. They were originally planned to only appear for a short story, but I grew fond of them and now they're recurrent characters. I need to draw them more often (especially I need to design Tanith's soldier/bodyguard outfit and Safiyah's maned lioness form)
Lakkmir (wookiee), Valmora (twi'lek) and their adoptive daughter Zer'aya (togruta) are some of my favourite characters from my friend's @jackdaw-kraai 's fic The Guides Verse, living their best lesbian coffeeshop AU-like life after being freed from the horrors of Hutt slavery
It's more of an elaborated sketch than a fully painted picture (I rushed a bit because I wanted to finish it before leaving on travel, and now I see a LOT of stuff missing or I could've done better), but I finally got to draw the three of them, like I've been wanting to do for a while!
I didn't think I'd be able to fill in all the months, with all the looking for a flat and then moving from May to August, but I'm really glad to see I did manage to draw even a bit every month!
Let's keep this pace for 2024!

I did not produce a lot overall, but I am very satisfied with what I did this year. There are a lot more people in this one than in the previous years, and especially a lot more of my original characters! I finally feel confident enough to draw them now and that's a pretty big milestone for me
One of Colette's chakrams at the beginning of the game is described as "perfect to play fetch with Noishe" and I love the idea of the kids enjoying a nice sunny afternoon playing with their giant immortal dog
Colette deserves it so much
Fourth and last painting of a series with a Greek mythology theme
The little owl as been the symbol of the goddess Athena, and later her Roman counterpart Minerva, for a long time and in some European languages their usual name still reflect that link. In many places in southern Europe, the owl is still considered a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, and people often gift little owl figurines to students for good luck in studies and exams
