I just think that personally if I hero-worshipped someone from early childhood up to a rather questionably late point in my adult life and then, upon becoming a superhero myself, I met the man I’d looked up to for so long - the one who was marketed as the golden boy, America’s sweetheart, society’s moral compass - and he quite clearly disliked me from the get go I’d go incredibly insane. every dghda character is so inherently contradictory which is just. so fascinating to me. todd’s loyal to the end but he’s also betrayed his entire family and lied about it for six years. farah’s an unstoppable force but she has crippling anxiety and doesn’t know how to interact with people. dirk is this ray of sunshine who changes people’s lives but who also is constantly surrounded by death and loss and who’s words all have an underlying pessimism to them. and there’s so many more of them and it’s all about parallels and opposites and things doubling up. it really drives home the theme of personal growth as a choice and a fight as well. also makes characterization a BITCH for fanfics but its worth it because it really adds so much depth. never gonna be normal about this show
