Gabriel traps Jack in a Mystery Spot/never-ending Tuesday, but instead of his loved ones simply dying in accidents, it's situations where Jack himself keeps accidentally killing his parental figures, over and over, in increasingly clumsy ways.

The interesting thing to me about Sam and human sacrifice is that it feels like a natural pairing with Sam agreeing more with John the longer the show progressed.
John and Sam are personality-wise very much peas in a pod. It's just their priorities differ.
The more Sam embraces hunting, the more Sam agrees with how John ran things. (Ex. Going off specifically the early seasons, Sam only objected to not passing on pertinent information when it was John doing it. Sam will do the same to Dean or even Jess for the same reason John did, which is "I know better - I can make this tactical call on my own". While Dean's withholding info is generally for the protection of himself or others.)
More specifically, John and Sam both consider people semi-expendable on their mission (in a way Dean didn't). But Sam's mission is to protect/avenge Dean, while John's is get revenge/stop the YED and his plan. Sam will kill a virgin to save him & Dean from demons, kill a demon host to destroy Lilith to avenge the version of Dean he lost to hell, or in 2 separate episodes effectively replace Dean's body parts to keep him alive at the cost to others' lives for "donating" their organs.
John on the other hand is actively reckless with other people's lives. He'll use Dean and Bill Harvelle for bait on his hunts, the latter ending in Bill's death. He'll leave the boys on their own for ages because hunting is more important than keeping them safe (from monsters or the YED). And he'll even tell Dean if he can't save Sam he has to kill him. The priority in all this isn't protecting the boys from the YED. It's revenge or at least stopping the YED's plans - which involve Sam. Will Sam and John have substantial guilt over the sacrificial choices they're making? Sure. But it doesn't change what they actually do. Because at the end of the day, the lives of others are expendable compared to the mission. Same disregard for human life, same headspace it comes from - just with a different goal in mind.

After episode 4, I finally understand why Danai Gurira had Andrew Lincoln watch Bridgerton to prepare for TOWL (and it wasn't for the scenes of classic romance and sex like I expected).
Because I have never seen anything so Daphne/Simon-coded as Michonne fighting to push through all the walls of Rick's trauma to get of the real heart of why he's trying to stop them from being happy and calling all the shots in their relationship.
(And okay - it was still probably a little for the sex scenes.)

My god does Lesley-Ann Brandt play the heck out of a second-in-command, vicious as she is determined that her devotion to her role can make up for the other gaps in her life. And boy, can Terry O'Quinn pull off fanatic commitment to a cause larger than himself for the greater good.
Are Brandt and Terry O'Quinn a bit of type casting for each of their roles on TOWL, sure? But they inhabit those roles both with what seems like effortless skill, and there's still a pretty good distinction of their characters from previous roles they've played before.
That said the Lost fan in me gets a real kick out of the fact that:
In a twist from Lost, O'Quinn is finally the man with all the answers. (This still does not end well for him.)
But *exactly* like Lost, O'Quinn's body is used after his death in direct service to who he'd view as "the bad guys" and is integral to plan to destroy what's effectively his life's work.

actually there were 0 time travellers on the Titanic, because the time cops have an entire outpost to safeguard that one particular point in history. every rookie spends a least a month on Titanic duty and they all complain bitterly about it since it is, essentially, the time travel equivalent of being the guard who has to stop tourists from licking the Liberty Bell.

"Well, now you get to save hers'. You're a hero with a shit haircut."
I forgot that sassy!Rick Grimes is my favorite Rick Grimes. Give me any moment of Rick mouthing off to authority and I'll automatically forgive half the nonsense he pulls in any given episode.

I'm getting a real kick out of the fact I unintentionally picked Easter of all days to start watching Rick Grimes's return from the dead.
I mean it's TWD universe. This show is literally built on resurrection. But it's also a choice to pick the holiday built on resurrection to watch the comeback of the show's lead character whose character has been "dead" for 5 years (our time).
Alternatively, maybe I could have picked tomorrow, April Fool's Day. Though based on Michonne's expression of shock at the end, maybe that's a little too on the nose, too.

I came into TOWL fully like, "I'm mildly curious.". I left with a sticky note of excited thoughts I couldn't contain during the episode.
First - general thoughts:
I don't know how to describe to you how much joy it brings my PA-loving heart to find out the secret city where this plot has been set is Philly. (I can't read maps or recognize skylines for shit - but words like "PA National Guard" and "Lincoln Financial Field" had me perking up in my seat with interest until they confirmed it.)
Oh Rick Grimes - being covered in blood in multiple separate scenes during the intervening years like you're making up for lost time. Good to know you haven't changed. (It's your MO - like Jon Bernthal in every role ever.)
I'm both a Lost and Lucifer watcher and I'm excited to see both John Locke and Maze in a new role. It's too early to tell, but they both seem to fit the given roles.
But if you think for one second when Terry O'Quinn opened his mouth and said the word "sacrifice" I didn't immediately think the phrase "that the island demanded", you'd be mistaken.
As I posted earlier - It's been awhile since I've spend time in the universe. I can admit I was rusty when it came to having any clue of Okafor's death after what in retrospect was a very "pre-death" TWD speech. Rick's arm I figured out about when I should of as the viewer. I figured out about Okafor's wife shortly before he said it. But as soon as Rick went down, I was really thinking Michonne would be part of whatever group struck him down. I was even more sure when I saw someone checking bodies, and positive when I saw they had a sword.
Second - the call backs:
The episode 2x8 - Nebraska - where 2 guys from the Philly area hear there's something in Nebraska area. The context that they seem wrong at the time, it's a pipe dream. But really, Omaha did survive, and they were close enough to Philly to hear that, but not close enough or Philly was struggling enough (at least compared to pre-walkers) they came looking for Nebraska anyway. But by the end of TOWL 1x1, Omaha is the pipe dream it seemed in 2x8, because it's destroyed now. (Who thinks Omaha being destroyed is 1000% suspicious with all the power issues? I sure do.)
Rick starting off the show having to cut off his own hand, ala Merle season 1.
Rick working himself up to cut off his own hand like he almost did to Carl per Negan's orders. Except instead of keeping his family alive, it's to get back to them.
The grenade used to escape ala season 1.
Meeting one of the guys who actually bombed Atlanta shown in season 1
The shot of Rick sitting one hand over his leg, dead look in his eyes, covered in blood, is giving me serious 4x16 vibes (leaning on the car, chatting with Daryl after ripping out a man's throat with his teeth).
Reintroducing Michonne at the end of the episode as a disguised and dangerous figure in the woods much like her season 2 finale introduction.

Maybe it's been awhile since I've watched a Walking Dead Universe show. Or maybe it's just been awhile since I've experienced Rick Grimes, let alone Rick in his most unhinged state (let's call it "The Full Grimes").
But that opening scene of Rick's return - I didn't think I had the capacity to be that unsettled by a show in the TWD universe anymore. From the time I realized what Rick was going to do to his arm until the scene ended, I sat frozen, rapt with attention at my tv - a half-eaten hot dog in one hand, mouth covered in horror with my other hand.

I finished Miracle Workers tonight and I'm so sad this delightfully weird comedy is over. I don't know anyone who watched this show that I didn't personally introduce it to. Every episode I came in prepared to be disappointed from the description and I was always pleasantly surprised.
I really don't think there's anything on tv now that manages to be so fun, so playfully dark, so willing to both play within and also break sitcom tropes, and so willing to both reset itself every season as an anthology while also committing to the progressing romance of it's leads in every version.
It's been a joy, Miracle Workers, and I'm going to miss you.

If I had a nickel for every time the dark haired, blue eyed lead actor from an insanely popular 2000s movie franchise went off in his early 30s to play one of the leads in a weird AF dark comedy on basic cable where one of his co-leads is a male actor playing the pet of his primary love interest, and said show fully commits to having the co-lead (while dressed as a pet) playing a mix of human and dog characteristics, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
(Daniel Radcliffe if you want to stop getting mixed up with Elijah Wood this is not how you do it.)

I have no idea what is happening with miracle workers but I'm pretty sure it's a soul mate reincarnation comedy and it's so fucking good actually. They find each other in every life and they're all fucked up lives. The cannibalism rate for these reincarnations is 50/50.
