History won't be kind to those of us who looked the other way.
Future generations will ask why, how, what the hell was wrong with us, why did nobody intervene when everybody knew and saw.
Gaza is not starving. Gaza is being starved by Israel. their condition is so bad that they are forced to consume animal feed just to keep their stomach full. but it isn't providing them any nutrition which is causing malnutrition. this is one of the most well documented genocide of all time and yet there are people who deny it or worse, they don't care. please don't turn away from their suffering and keep talking about Gaza.

This. All of this.
crazy to think that bram stoker, of all people, could envision a jonathan harker who is both a tragic gothic heroine pining in distress in dracula's castle and having panic attacks in the street after he leaves the hospital he thinks he was in for a nervous breakdown and a badass action hero with a big honking knife whose wife thinks he's super hot, but 125 years later modern society like, cannot get on his level.

The time is fast approaching for dear friend Jonathan to come once more knocking at my Castle door...
I love how in the Dracula Daily fandom, we don’t say that we are beginning once again on May 3rd.
Rather, we say “my dear friend Johnathan is preparing for his upcoming trip. I hope he has such a wonderful time and that he brings back some delicious recipes :)”
And I think that’s beautiful

Please, please constantly challenge and reject the narrative that any region is naturally more prone to war than any other, like that's a characteristic inherent to its make-up, like that's geographically assigned risk the same way an area can be earthquake-prone or hurricane-prone.
There has never been a utopia on Earth and nowhere is entirely free of conflict, but this disastrous scale of violence inflicted upon the SWANA region is a deliberate and calculated effort of destabilization by Western powers who want to bleed the region dry. It's not an immutable part of the contour of the land that its people must adapt to and live with. It can be stopped and should be stopped. These people were once free and can be freed again.
Every time you see someone hand-waving a crisis at this scale as "conflict in the Middle East" it is an abominable tool to dehumanize Arabs to the point where nobody bats an eye at the death of their children.
Examine what that phrase means. What is a "conflict in the Middle East"? What happens in Yemen isn't what happens in Morocco isn't what happens in Palestine isn't what happens in Iraq, but this catch-all term is meant to translate in your mind into "problems are happening where problems are always happening", because of course they are! Conflict in the Middle East? What else is new, clouds in the sky? Fish in the sea? It lulls you into apathy; Arabs are dying - but that's what they do, don't they?
And so three goals of the perpetrators of this violence are achieved. First, they wash their hands from it; they didn't set the place on fire, it was already like this when they got there! Second, does it even matter whose fault it is? Who cares about a dead brown child anyway? Who's counting the death toll? Third, since this is an unchangeable quality of their region, and has nothing to do with the West, why protest it? Why fight for them? Why demand anything out of Western leaders?

It's ongoing and getting worse the less our news cycles talk about it.
We have to hold our own governments accountable for their silence and complicity, its the only possible means we have to pressure Israel to stop.

Where is our book accurate Mina protagonist adaptation? Great Satan we need one.
Also not only did Mina make the documents, she backed them up! Dracula BURNED THEM. But she had made them in triplicate.
She is always one step ahead. Like a chess master.
My girl was doing cartwheels around that vampire fool so hard that his only move was to give her nightmares on earth, and religious trauma in an attempt to stop her...
And Mina STILL ended up doing cartwheels around stupid Dracula even with the host mark on her forehead via backing up documents, and turning him into a fucking gps to guide everyone so they could turn him into ribbons.

More profound when you consider that Doctors Without Borders rarely makes political statements.
In #UNSC mtg on Middle East, @MSF SG Christopher Lockyear says: "Israeli forces have attacked our convoys, detained our staff, bulldozed our vehicles, hospitals have been bombed and raided. And now for a second time, one of our staff shelters has been hit. This pattern of attacks is either intentional or indicative of reckless incompetence. Our colleagues in #Gaza are fearful that as I speak to you today, they will be punished tomorrow."
He adds: "The humanitarian response in Gaza today is an illusion. A convenient illusion that perpetuates a narrative that this war is being waged in line with international laws. Calls for humanitarian assistance have echoed across this chamber. Yet in Gaza we have less and less every day, less space, less medicine, less food, less water, less safety."

AITA for not telling my fiancé I know he’s queer?
I 20s (F) have a 20s (M) fiancé, V, and he’s been talking about this terrible secret he cannot tell me and he keeps almost starting to come out and then backing out. The issue is V and I were raised together by his parents, and my surrogate 40s (M) father and (now deceased) surrogate mother arranged for our marriage back when we were both children. They thought it was the best for us and at the time we were too young to realize the implications and had no reason to reject to the match. When we were teenagers our mother was on her deathbed and she told us again that she wished for us to marry, and of course we both agreed. However, V is also best friends with a 20s (M) guy called H, and they were nearly inseparable as boys and teens. They also went to university together and shared an apartment but V had to come home due to family reasons. Lately he’s been going out all day and coming home at night hours later. He insists that he’s fine and that we all leave him alone and not worry for him, but I think he and H have been sneaking around. He even delayed our wedding day by arranging a trip to go to England alone with H. It’s exhausting for all of us and I think I should just tell V I know and support him and that we can call off the marriage, but I’m not sure that’s the best course of action? I’m completely fine with not marrying him - he always felt more like a brother to me anyway - but I worry it might come off wrong. The worst part is he’s really beating himself up about it. He’s so guilty it’s beginning to take a toll on his health. I don’t care if he has a boyfriend I just want him to be happy.
EDIT: nvm he built an 8ft creature in his dorm

dracula, holding a sad, bastardized jonathan harker: this is not my good friend >:{
mina, holding a Different sad, bastardized jonathan harker: none of these men are my beloved husband >:(
The only story I want to see with Dracula and Mina on even slightly non-enemy terms is a story that's just the two of them hunting for the Missing Actual Jonathan Harker lost beneath the mountains of shitty adaptations and spinoffs, casually swatting all his replacements out of the way and into convenient packs of wolves
This is not their beautiful solicitor
This is not their beautiful wife-husband
They have standards and these retellings are shorting them with crappy knockoff bleached-out Jonny Harks that they'd not waste their time on. Get that lackluster shit out of here. Bring them their Jonathan

If I was doing a adaptation of Carmilla that casts her in a more sympathetic light one thing I would change is that she's actually less discriminative on who she targets the feed on, not just targeting other young women.
Unless it's with someone she's aready particularly intimate with, her feeding does not actually have a sexual component to it. She's a lesbian who also just happens to be a vampire, not a "lesbian vampire" so to speak.
Probably give her more standards too. She tries not to feed on children and at least makes the effort not to kill the people she's feeding on. But it can be hard to control oneself when feeding and even if the person survives it can fuck up a person's immune system in the long term, so…
She does seem to be quite amoral in the novella when it regards her prey outside her fixation. Baron Vordenburg puts it as "proceeding directly to the target, overwhelming with violence and exhausting at a single feast" so if that's at all accurate, I'm guessing the peasant girls' encounters with Carmilla are less a surreal dreamlike visitation than a horrifying and fatal encounter with a cryptid monster cat or nightmare ghost ripping their throat out in their sleep.
The funeral procession scene makes her seem somewhere between indifferent to their fates and masking guilt as indifference (in her rather violent protestations against the funeral) although, as always with Carmilla, there's ambiguity, because it may be that the Christian funeral hymns and customs are causing her literal psychic damage because VAMPIRE.
However you slice it, though, she's killed a jawdropping number of young women, so I can see why you'd address that in a sympathetic adaptation (like the web series did)

The scenes coming out of Rafah are nothing short of horrific.
This is Israel relishing in its impunity. Israel knows that no matter the level of atrocities it commits, it will never be challenged or held accountable by those in power.
Your role still matters though. Keep advocating for Palestine, amplify Palestinian voices, find a protest near you - whatever you do, make your stance known.

Yep this is the one matchup where I really don't think Drac has much of a chance lmao. Though to be fair it's Superman, one of the most op characters in Western fiction, so who does?
Could Clark Kent survive Castle Dracula? (My instinctive answer: He could not avoid getting bitten, but him getting bitten would merely result in Dracula breaking a tooth)
Oh my God that's too funny...
He... he needs a mirror to shave! He has to bounce his laser vision off the mirror! Razor blades don't work on him! Imagine Dracula sneaking up behind him and being just like "...what the fuck."
How heavy is he? Dracula tries to carry him back to his room post Girlies and is like "God what are they eating in Kansas???"
And Clark... well of course he keeps up the façade. He's very good at that and it makes Dracula so mad.
There's no way he lets a kid get eaten. While Dracula is fighting with the girlies he really quickly takes the baby back home and then comes back to continue being passed out on the couch. They're like "so shall we have nothing?" and Dracula gives them the bag and they're like "wow this empty." And Dracula has to fake it and be like "yeah cuz that's what you deserve" when he's actually like "........wtf I know I had a kid in that sack Where Did It Go"
Dracula thinks he's going insane. If he had a shadow he'd be jumping at it. And Clark, massive troll, is just like mmm yes do tell me more about Transylvanian history the article is coming along really nicely.
Now it is entirely possible the trance does work on him. But it doesn't matter because, as you say, Dracula breaks his teeth on his neck. At which point he's just like "screw this I'm moving to England" and nopes on outta there.
Like Superman can fly. He can literally just leave whenever. He only stays the full two months to troll Dracula and it works.
So yeah. Clark Kent can survive Castle Dracula

Absolutely.
I would actually love to see a Dracula pastiche or just a gothic horror tropes pastiche in general where the protagonists are just the local villagers who have to deal with these insane foreigners putting themselves in harm's way with supernatural terrors.
The 'superstitious local peasant' trope viewed from a protagonist lens where you see their actually very sensible and pragmatic worldview in action would be a very different story and probably a lot of fun.
I bought the Re: Dracula audiobook and I'm listening from the beginning and....
Jonathan really doesn't understand how hard the peasants at the beginning were trying to help him. We always laugh at how if the locals were all pressing charms into our hands and blessing us, we might think twice about going where we're going. But no one talks about the coach driver:
"There is no carriage here. The Herr is not expected after all. He will now come on to Bukovina, and return tomorrow or the next day, better the next day." [.......] Then, amongst a chorus of screams from the peasants and a universal crossing of themselves, a caleche, with four horses, drove up behind us, overtook us, and drew up beside the coach. [.......]They were driven by a tall man, with a long brown beard and a great black hat, which seemed to hide his face from us. I could only see the gleam of a pair of very bright eyes, which seemed red in the lamplight, as he turned to us. He said to the driver, "You are early tonight, my friend." The man stammered in reply, "The English Herr was in a hurry." To which the stranger replied, "That is why, I suppose, you wished him to go on to Bukovina. You cannot deceive me, my friend. I know too much, and my horses are swift."
The kindness and the balls of the coach driver. He fucking knew the foreigner headed for Dracula's castle wasn't going to listen to them, so he tried to fake out both Jonathan and Dracula to save Jonathan's life. Putting himself in harm's way. Can I hear a round of applause for our unnamed coach driver? Yeah, it didn't work, but he should sure as fuck get credit for trying to save this total stranger from Dracula, especially when he was putting himself at risk by (metaphorically) sticking his own neck out!
