Now I want to say "awww, my little genetically engineered petunia" as a term of endearment to my loved ones and pets just to fuck around and find out. It would raise so many questions.

I'm doing it gang, I've spent stupider gardening money before like when I dropped $300 on shade loving perennial bulbs only to learn they were also plants that rotted with wet feet and all immediately died in my swampy gumbo soil

I'm buying two firefly petunias. I've never grown petunias much because where I live they're a winter annual but fuck it I'll grow them as an indoor plant I certainly have the sun to do it.

They're supposed to ship to me in April, I'll report back on if they immidiately die or this is the coolest thing I own. My biochemical engineering design project was using a similar chemical pathway to modify bacteria to glow in the presence of specific toxins so I absolutely need glowing petunias in my window box

I've infodumped about vegetable fermentation. Now it's your turn to infodump to me about one of your hyperfixations!

I love when people infodump about their fixations to me. It's my love language, I think.

Drawing is something I go back and forth with at various levels of fixation (right now I am in hyperfixation territory, I think). I tend to come back to it when my other avenues of expression fail me or stress me out (especially since one of those avenues is literally my job). It's part procrastination, part coping mechanism.

I have an obsession specifically with drawing from photos of old or run down things (I love old things and places, the sense of history and experience being so much bigger than my own life), and anatomical parts (bones and guts). I like these subjects for the same reasons...when I inevitably fuck up proportions, it's a lot harder to tell. I often incorporate song lyrics or literature into my work too, because I just love wordplay.

When I'm in a major depressive episode (like now) one of the most heartbreaking parts is my inability to remember much of anything or to register physical sensations (touch, taste, smell). I also normally experience very very vivid synethesia. When I'm like this, it's like someone turned that dial all the way down, and the world is so colorless and flattened.

Drawing is a relief because I can just look and respond with my hands...nothing to try in vain to memorize, no sensation to miss out on, just seeing and rendering it into some collage of images and words. It's a saving grace right now when nothing feels real, and everything scares me. I can look back at page after page of a sketchbook and say "Hey...here's evidence that I'm accomplishing something."
